Liz was finally happy to be off the road. She got out of the back and stretched her entire body from fingers to toes. She wasn't much of a traveler and it had taken her a long time to get from California to Colorado. Months on end actually. She liked to stay in one place, but circumstances with each group she came across made it nearly impossible. She really hoped this time it was different. It was a little warmer here, although not by much. Snow was fading as the sun was shining and she removed the scarf that was around her neck. Instinctively her fingers went to a necklace that she wore. Dark silver healing stones with a pattern of the sun as the centerpiece of the necklace. She wore it night and day after she lifted it from a little native American tourist shop in Nevada. Someone in her group prior to Bear Creek said wearing jewelry was a danger..that walkers could grab you easier, but so far that hadn't happened.
Dannie got out and ordered her to take Sterling inside, which she happened to think was a good idea. If there was any trouble out here, Sterling wouldn't last long. He still needed to heal and had a good ways to go before that gunshot wound was completely mended and he was right as rain again.
Opening the door, she helped him out. She knew he would be stiff from the long ride and perhaps inside the store they could find more medical supplies she could keep on hand. Not that gas stations had much, but even aspirin would help him with the pain.
"Easy now, Sterling. You still need more time to heal."
Opening the glass door she noticed that there were no walkers and no other signs of life inside. There were things on the shelves like moldy bread and processed canned foods, but she took Sterling over to the cash register where there was a booth with bullet proof glass. She would stay with him in there in case the shit hit the fan outside. He still had her gun and she noticed a tire iron and baseball bat behind the counter they could use.
"We should be safe here."
