Nick giggled a little when she said as shriveled up as raisins and he joined her along the end of the pool "Yeah i agree, my hands are shriveled up from being in the water so long." Nick showed her his free hand and continued to hold her hand tightly "I can meet you at the old cadet chapel at 6:30?'
"Yeah, that sounds great," Catherine replied, reaching the end of the pool and pulling herself up into a seated position, sitting along the edge of the pool and adding, "Come to think of it, you do look a bit shriveled," laughing as she spoke and thinking, How did I get so lucky?

"Yeah, that sounds great," Catherine replied, reaching the end of the pool and pulling herself up into a seated position, sitting along the edge of the pool and adding, "Come to think of it, you do look a bit shriveled," laughing as she spoke and thinking, How did I get so lucky?
Nick laughed a little bit as well, he then got out of the pool and stretched his legs a little bit then helped Catherine up to her feet. "You go get some rest, I'll see you at 6:30 okay?" Nick said as he gave her a quick peck on the lips and walked out of the field house, having a bright smile on his face and a jolt of energy.
Three hours later, Old Cadet Chapel
It was now 6:30 and Nick was patiently waiting outside the church for Catherine, he wore a long sleeve shirt and jacket, it was nippy and the temperature was in what he assumed was the high 40s, but it was nothing he couldn't handle, having been in the element for 4 years and his body adapting to it, it didn't really affect him as much. I wonder where she is Nick thought as he waited for Catherine to arrive. He knew it would warm up soon, the temperature couldn't be this cold forever. As Nick looked at the outside of the church while waiting, he thought how beautiful it was made and the architecture really sticking out to him, then he turned his head back to facing forward and continued waiting for Catherine.

"Alright," Catherine said, blushing a little before heading back to change and head back to her quarters to catch a little bit of rest before evening services that day....
Three hours later, Old Cadet Chapel Walking up the asphalt road towards the chapel, Catherine could see Nicholas waiting near the front entrance; dressed in jeans, a long-sleeve blue blouse with an Army sweatshirt over top of it and hiking boots, she looked every much a part of the West Point community and she knew it. Waving back towards him, she picked up the pace and soon joined him, giving him a friendly hug as they stood there. "You look great, Nicholas," she said as she momentarily stepped aside to let a couple soldiers who looked as though they were heading to the front soon; in her hand was her bible and a small flip-top notebook that she used to take notes during every sermon, done so that she could go over them and peruse them later on. "I guess we should go in, shouldn't we?" she asked, anxious to get inside before the nippiness of the evening seeped inside her.

"Yeah, I think we should" Nick agreed after giving her a hug back and he also had his own bible and a flip top notebook as well, that was in his left hand, he placed his free hand into Catherine's and they walked into the old cadet chapel. Nick was awed at how huge the chapel was on the inside, it had stain glass windows and was made of bricks on the inside. They both found a spot in the middle of the church and Nick allowed Catherine to sit down first, then he sat down himself next to her. "What do you think of this church Catherine?" Nick asked as they waited for service to start.

"Its' a beautiful place," Catherine whispered as they sat down. "It reminds me of all the small little churches back in the home country in Sicily; small chapels with large, stained-glass windows, lots of atmosphere and beauty in them..." Her voice trailed off as one of West Point's chaplains had walked up to the altar lectern to begin the midweek service...
(Monsignor Raines) ...in Ecclesiastes, Solomon confronts the two grand contradictions in the univese, that of the uncertainty of life and the equally contradictable certainty of death yet as he puts it in Ecclesiastes 9 and 11, time and chance happen to us all...but there is also a hidden message in there as well and that time and chance isn't just a reference to death but also to life as well. All of us, here, and wherever we may be in this world, all know that someday we have to answer for what we've done in this life but we also, depending on the circumstance, also have a chance at redemption, of redeeming our lives and turning them around....
...as Catherine listened, she gripped Nicholas's hand tighter, not wanting to let go, listening to the chaplain's sermon on life and redemption; glancing over, she wondered what Nicholas was thinking as they listened along...

As Nick listened, a thought came into his mind. How great is it that God looks at me worthy of redemption, gosh all seems like yesterday when I was saved. Nick thought as he continued to listen to the sermon, another thought popped into his mind Since all of this happened, have I glorified God in my words, how I treat people, and what I do to survive, like killing people that used to be human, I'm not worthy of his forgiveness. Nick thought as once he felt Catherine's hand squeeze his tighter, he in turn squeezed her hand tighter. God I don't know where you want me and Catherine to go, in regards to our love, but please let it be known to the both of us. I don't deserve her love, just like I don't deserve your forgiveness. Nick finished his thoughts.

Glancing over once more at Nicholas, she tightened her grip on his hand as they sat in the pew, listening to the monsignor's sermon and she thought, Nicholas is my man...I can't explain it - maybe I'll never be able to explain it - but if this is real, God, I'm sitting next to the man I'm destined to spend the rest of my life with, looking over and smiling as they listened, her smile as bright as it'd ever been in her life.

Nick looked over and gave Catherine a smile at her squeezing his hand even tighter, how he wanted answers as to where him and Catherine should go in regards to their feelings. Eventually the service had come to a close and the both of them had got up from their seats in the pew and thanked the monsignor for his sermon. They both walked out of the church, their hands still clasped together and Nick looked over at Catherine giving the doctor a smile "What did you think of the service Catherine?" Nick asked as they stood outside of the church and in the cool evening air, the sun had set about 30 minutes ago and Nick patiently waited for her response and moved his thumb around her hand gently in a circular motion.

"I thought it was....I thought it was the perfect way to cap off the best day I've had since being here, Nicholas," Catherine said, smiling as they stood there, holding hands and enjoying each other's company. "I mean that: ever since I got here, every day's been the same...but today," leaning over to give Nicholas a peck on the cheek, "today was the best day I've ever had and," giving his hand another squeeze, "I really, really enjoyed it. Thank you," nodding back down towards the road and the center of West Point. "Guess we should probably head back, shouldn't we?"

"Your welcome and yeah I think we should head back" Nick walked with Catherine hand in hand back to the rooms where the citizens stayed and felt the happiest he has felt in a long time. He blushed a little from her kiss on the cheek.
Ten minutes later, Washington Hall
Nick arrived with Catherine at her apartment and he squeezed her hand tighter "Thanks for a great day Catherine, I had a lot of fun" Nick smiled and slowly leaned in, closing his eyes and kissed her on the lips. He pulled her closer and played with her hair as he continued kissing her and waited for her to start kissing him back, feeling great as he was kissing her. Wonder if we'll start a make out session. Nick jokingly thought in his head as he continued kissing her and continued playing with her long brown hair, running his fingers through it.

"So did I," Catherine replied, feeling a lot better than she had in a long, long time, probably the happiest she'd been over the past five years of the apocalypse; she started to turn and head inside when she turned back around, walked around and like a giddy schoolgirl of old, gave Nicholas the sloppiest, heartwarming kiss she could deliver. Stepping back a moment and chuckling, her cheeks blushing again, Catherine smiled and said in a quiet voice. "I just had to do that," giving Nicholas's hands a firm, but gentle squeeze as they stood there.
"Anyway, I got to go in early tomorrow; I got first watch, so I'm going to probably head in and get some sleep," Catherine said, adding, "It was nice to meet you, Nicholas; I'll see you tomorrow then?"

"Yes you will" Nick said as he felt himself blush a little from the kiss and slowly let go of her hands. He then smiled at her. "Sweet dreams Catherine" Nick said as he watched her go into her room and then walked down the stairs to the floor where he was staying. He opened the door and felt happy. This was the happiest he'd been since the start of the apocalypse. I can't wait to hang out with her tomorrow, hopefully we'll go swimming again. Nick thought as he changed into his pajamas, got on his knees, prayed, then got in bed to sleep for the night
Crandall Field House
Nick had arrived at the pool, the time was now 8:00am on the pool clock. After hanging up his weapon on the wall and changing into his bathing suit, he dove into the pool and started swimming. This is great, wonder if Catherine will show up. Nick thought as he started doing laps in the pool.

Before she headed into Medical for her shift, Catherine - dressed in doctor's scrubs with an Army sweatshirt over her upper body, plus her sidearm at her hip - decided to walk around West Point a bit, eventually ending up at the field house; walking inside to the walkway next to the pool, she smiled and waved at Nicholas as she watched him doing laps. "Sorry I'm not dressed for swimming," she said, kneeling down close to the pool, "but I gotta' go in to Medical for day shift; they sent two of our staff to the front in Western New York so Colonel Geisbert called everyone in, including me." Though it should've made her glum to not be in the pool with Nicholas, it still felt good to see him as she added, "So, you'd have a good sleep last night, Nicholas?"

Nick said as he floated in the pool and was a little bit sad that Catherine wasn't dressed for swimming but he didn't show the emotion. "Yeah I got a good sleep, best sleep I've had in a long time" Nick said and ran his fingers through her hair "I was wondering if you were free after your shift we could go and grab some dinner. Since I think you would be too tired to swim" Nick said with a little chuckle about her being too tired as he waited patiently for a response from her.

Closing her eyes as they kissed, Catherine smiled; she still felt like she was floating on Cloud Nine like she'd been yesterday and the reason was floating in the pool right in front of her. "I slept better than I have in a long, long time<" taking a moment to lightly caress Nicholas's face with her hand as she heard him ask about dinner later today after her shift ended. "Sure, I'll be there," Catherine said, taking a moment to tip her finger underneath Nicholas's chin and draw him right up to her. Leaning forward, she kissed him lightly and said, "I'll see you then, Nicholas..."

Evening, Grant Hall Cafeteria
It had been a while since Nick saw Catherine, he hoped her shift had gone well and he was looking forward to having dinner with her. As he waited patiently for her at one of the tables, he thought about where he could see him and Catherine going in regards to their love. I hope we grow closer and get to know each other better and I hope we get to read the Bible together at some point. Nick thought as he tapped his finger and waited patiently for her to arrive.

Entering the dining hall, Catherine looked around, still on Cloud Nine from the previous day and feeling a lot better than she had in a long, long time. Even her fellow doctors had noticed the change in her, but as was her style, she demurely declined to answer them, figuring it'd take too long to explain. Continuing to look around, she smiled when she saw Nicholas and waved to him, heading towards him at a brisk pace, anxious to her beloved once more....

Once Nick had seen Catherine, he waved back to her and then, after she sat down, he planted a kiss on her lips. "Hey Catherine, how was your shift?" Nick asked as he waited patiently for a response from her hoping that it went well and that dinner would be ready soon. As he waited he thought about him and Catherine going swimming again tomorrow, if she was off.

"It was alright," Catherine replied in-between kisses, "slow, but alright. I don't think I've ever looked at a clock more than I did," savoring all the sensations as she joined him at their table. "So how was your day, Nicholas?" she asked, reaching over to squeeze his hand as they sat together....

"My day was good, after swimming I helped President Michner with a few more things, but I couldn't help but stare at the clock every twenty minutes or so." Nick said with a slight chuckle as he squeezed her hand back, he just loved being around her, and he loved her. Nick thought about what to ask next and with a smile he started asking her something "I was wondering if you wanted to go swimming again?" Nick asked her, then he patiently waited for a response from the doctor, hoping to hear the word yes.
