The sun peeked out over the horizon. Another day on this earth. Raphael's eyes cracked open as the sunlight kissed his skin. Raphael squinted against the light. With a groan he rolled over to his side and swung his feet of bed. His cold feet hit the floor and he sat up rubbing his eyes. He glanced over his should to see TIna's spot in the bed empty. The sheets perfectly neat, as if she hadn't slept there at all.
Raphael pulled on a shirt and stuck his feet in his boots. He pulled roughly at the laces taking out his anger on his tortured weathered shoes. They haven't been getting along great lately. It was little things at first and before he knew how they were in a fight. She was independent and he was overprotective. It was bound to happen from time to time. He still didn't like waking up alone.
It felt wrong. It felt hollow. Raphael's hand moved back to the neat sheets on her side of the bed. He was lost in thought for a moment. How many more nights were they going to keep this up? How many more nights were they just going to find some place that was barely safe? This place wasn't home. He heard growls all throughout the night. Somewhere off down the street a trashcan was knocked over or something. He thought he even heard a dog barking. One of those lurkers must've been chasing after it.
Raphael stood up and moved throughout the little house that they had stayed in. He knew she was here. He could sense her in the house. She must've gone off to sleep elsewhere? He felt like a failure. He fucked up yesterday. He made a stupid decision that nearly gotten them killed. He felt terrible about it. He wasn't quick enough to think on his feet and they nearly gotten them cornered. If it hadn't been for Tina's quick thinking they would have been done for.
Ordinarily that wouldn't be the kind of thing to spark an argument, but Raphael lashed out. He felt as if it was his duty to protect her. One slip and it could all be over. He thought as he looked and found the bathroom empty. He moved down the hall. The thin, tight angular muscles of his face pulled into a look of annoyance. His floppy hair bounced lightly around his head with every step he took. If I can't protect her, I don't deserve her. He thought as he found the small office room untouched. I shouldn't have gotten angry with her. I need to apologize. He thought as he started to head downstairs. He hoped she was still here.
