Once Chloe spoke, Renato made a brief, understanding nod. ”You ain’t wrong in that.” truth be told, the world was a mess, and even Renato had done his share of bad actions; he tried to avoid it the most he could, but, well… There’s only so much a lone person can do in this world, and sometimes it means getting your hands dirty. Still, he always did his very best not to hurt anyone he could see as a good person. Then, when she mentioned Chance’s willingness to be somewhere else, Renato just shrugged. ”He just wants to be as far away as possible from the possibility of getting a spike in his head. Can’t really blame him, right?” he said in a more casual tone.
The girl was cautious, and that made perfect sense; to be alive nowadays you were either cautious or absurdly lucky, and the later didn’t seem to be the case. Renato exhaled deeply and scratched the back of his head. ”One thing I learned in this world… If somebody wastes bullets to save your ass, they are probably decent enough. If they share the little stuff they have with you… Then they are most certainly decent. Chance did both things and we’ve only just met. He is clumsy, that much is obvious, but I doubt he is trouble.” he said, pausing briefly. ”But hey, that’s just my guess. I could be wrong. I’ve been wrong plenty of times, but I’ve also been right." After that she handed him a real feast: two rabbits, and that made him widen his eyes, quite surprise. ”Wow… Thank you.” he said, with sincerity in his tone.
Finally she had dropped the sarcasm and seemed to be quite sincere. It was tough to be in this world, and for teenagers it was even worse. When it all started, Renato was about 22, so he wasn’t all that young. ”They were kids when shit hit the fan… Damn!” he thought to himself, sighing a bit. He stared from the rabbit, to Chance, then to the girls. ”I really appreciate what you two are doing. But I can’t take your horses. You barely know us, and that’s something to hold on to, the horses.” he said, pointing his fingers to the animals. ”The least I could do is to stick around so we can dine together and then figure out what to do next. As I said… I’m a wanderer. I don’t have a home. Think we can do that, Chance?” he asked; they had just met, but Renato was a loyal person nonetheless, and Chance had been decent and helpful to him. He wouldn’t want to just shun him away.
However, shortly after that he heard a noise nearby; someone was around the area. Instinctively his hand reached the hilt of his Katana and he crouched a bit. His other hand reached his lips. ”Shsh!” he exclaimed, staring at the girls. He pointed the direction of the sound with his head, as if he was telling them that he would check it out. With that being said, he threw the rabbits at Chance, hoping he would catch them and silently started walking towards the direction of the sound while slowly and silently unsheathed his blade from the scabbard on his back. ”Come on… Be just a walker…” he hoped.
