Max drove in silence. besides the odd comment no one spoke to one another. It was an awkward silence. Max gripped the wheel and looked at Charlie. "How's the head Pres," he asked, "need to change the pad?"
He looked at Abby. "Did that sign say three miles. That means we are close. We should go over weapons and ammo. We want guns to be a las resort. So melee and blur objects. Or silent artillery likes Sab's bow," he said as the Knight drove down the road.
"The base is big. We may need to spilt into groups. I'll go with Jay and Sab, Charlie and Abby can be a group. That way we have a newcomer with and original. If you have an objection speak up."
He drove in silence once again, waiting for someone to answer. He wanted a one on one talk with Abby. He needed her to talk, to say something to him. He wanted to explain himself. For her to understand. He wanted to kiss her, make it okay again. He knew that wouldn't happen. They were all on edge. She was pissed. He looked at her again. Why the fuck did I say that, he thought to himself.
Then he saw it Fort Bragg, they had made it. He pulled into the base and stopped the Knight. The area lokked clear. It was eerily free of Sinners. He pulled open the door and stepped out. There wasn't a Sinner in sight.
The rest of the drive went peacefully enough. He couldn't believe that the place was so free of growlers. It was kind of eerie to be honest. He had expected to have to drive the Knight through a crud of the things.
"I don't think we're alone guys. This place should be damn near overrun."
He knew that he shouldn't be out on a run right now but he wasn't going to complain. The quicker they got this done the sooner he would be able to get back to Sarah. He didn't like the idea of splitting up though, especially with him not at 100 percent. It was quite a big risk.
"Should we really split up? I'm not quite at the top of my game."
Abby kept seeing max glancing back at her in the rear view. She would drag her eyes away from those pretty blues every time. It killed her to do it, but she didn't want him to think he could do what he did and then just be forgiven, or it would happen again, and again.
When they stopped, she looked out the window and opened the door slowly, gripping her bat in her right hand. Max suggested splitting up, "No, this feels wrong, all wrong, I agree with Charlie, safety in numbers. " She looked all around, and stared at the kid, 'This place gives me the creeps, for real." She didn't like this, and the hairs on the nape of her neck were standing on end, 'I thought you guys said this place would be covered by Sinners, so?" She didn't move far from the truck, and hadn't closed the door yet.

"Logically I should be," Max said looking around. He had his knife out, but his guns as ready just incase. "With all the survivors being shipped and sent here. It should be run over. I thought splitting up would help us push through the sinners. Since there are none we should stay together."
He loked around. "Guns should be ready," he said as he moved forward. "Charlie are you okay. You can stay and watch the road make sure no sinners approach our six." It was just a suggestion. And he actually expected charlie to refuse and come. "Guns out. If we aren't dealing with Sinners we are dealing with People. People will open fire, melee are useless against them."
Max looked at the Fort. He pulled his gun out and kept it at a close quarter combat stance. As he walked forward he turned to the others. "V shaped pattern. Not a line but still clos together." He ordered.
As he stepped forward a female voice was heard.
"Approaching survivors. Lay down your weapons. Lay on the ground. Throw your gun in front of you and place your hands on your heads. We will open fire. We do not want to loot you. We just want our people safe."
Remaining silent for most of the drive. Glancing over at the other people she was with. Blinking a little bit in surprise at Abby's words."Or it could make us a bigger target." Almost mumbling it under her breath. Opening the door nearest to her before getting out of it. Stareing at nothing in particular before taking a arrow and loading it. Sabita didn't understand why they chose sinners. Yes she was told why and yes it was something little. It still confused the young women. "Aren't sinners people?" raising a dark eye brow at Max.
Of course Charles didn't stay at the Knight. He wasn't about to risk himself or the others by reducing their numbers. He made sure that the SUV was fully locked up and then fell into formation directly behind Max. At least Max knew what he was doing. He couldn't lead effectively right now.
When the female voice could be heard he looked around, trying to find the source of the sound. He couldn't find it so instead he stepped forward. The female sounded like military and if anyone in this group was ready to deal with military personnel it was him.
"Let me handle this Max, but be ready."
He lowered his gun, putting it into it's holster.
"Identify yourself, I will not have my people disarm themselves to a strange person. I'm sure if our positions were reversed you would feel the same. I'm sure you have guns trained on us so how about you come on out and we have this Mexican standoff like decent people. My people will lower their weapons."
He motioned with his hands to tell them to lower their weapons. He was still hoping to avoid identifying himself but the woman would probably ask him to do so. He really didn't want to find out that his joking comment to Max was right, but he especially didn't want the others to know who he was and what he had done.

From outside the base a lone women stepped out, she was in army fatigue and had her hair tied up in a ponytail. "I'm lieutenant Amber wilkinson," she said her gun at her side. "Your now trespassing on us army private property. I expect you to have a reason to be here?" She eyed the group. "I ask that you lower your weapons."
"Fuck that. We ain't lowering shit," Max said his gun still raised.
"Big mistake. We have snipers in the building behind you. Show them you're here," Amber said throw a walkie talkie. A silent bullet flew out and landed at Max's feet. "Now lower you weapons."
Max didn't comply, his arrogant ways and kept it raised. He liked at Charlie before he lowered it.
All of a sudden a silent shot was fired. The bullet hit Max in the soldier. He fell, the snow raising above him as he fell.
Amber ducked in cover, immediately at her coms. "Who fired? I repest who fired," she asked.
A voice crackled over the radio. It was high pitched and feminine. "It was Pete. He didn't trust them.
"Dam it I said hold the fire. Get Louis to apprehend Pete, take away his God dam gun," Amber yelled into the coms. She stepped out with her arms raised to show she meant no harm. "We have a doctor here. He can help."
The door opened and two young college aged kids came out. They were both unarmed and in civilian clothing. The rushed to Ambers side, ready to help.

Charles almost started shooting when Max hit the ground. The only thing that stopped him was the fact that he could hear the woman yelling into her comms about who the hell shot and she seemed pissed. She at least seemed like a decent person, even offering to have their doc help Max. It was going to be needed.
"Thank you, my people will stay armed, I hope you understand, but we will put our weapons away."
Charles went to grab Max but then had to deal with a more pressing concern. The new kid was making demands that he knew the woman would never comply with, and that could very well get them all killed.
"Jay, shut the Fuck up. Do you want to get us all killed. She is military. No way in hell is she going to pull back her snipers. Next time you have a bright idea run it by me before you open your fucking mouth about it."
He grabbed Max under his shoulders. It was he going to hurt him like all hell but right now Charles was more interested in the man's survival then his comfort.
Her brown eyes stared up at the women who was talking. Blinking in surprise at the sight of Max getting shot. Sabita wasn't all that surprised by it though. Things like that seemed to happen a lot in the land of the lawless. The kids demands were very dumb and surprising to hear from him. Not saying she took him as Nontalkative like herself... But in this situation she expected it. A deep sigh escaped her lips as she listend to Charles yell at the kid. It was just enough mean words for her to let her opinion come into words. "Oh Shut the fuck up Charles... The only reason we are even in the line of getting killed is because you people had the idea to come to this place. Besides its not like your all in that good of shape for him to run things by. If I remeber you saw double so it's not out of the question if somone was cautious about telling." Switching her stare from Charles back to the kid. "Not saying your demands were good or bad though" She said kindly making sure she gave her opinion.
Abby stood still as the female spoke ,bit she didn't drop her bat. She listened as Max argued and then Charlie and the kid. It was Sabita's words that grated on her." Hey! It was your fucking choice to come,no one forced you into the damn truck, so about you lay the fuck off." She stared at her and then moved up next to Max and Charlie. She saw max and then heard the shot and saw blood. What the fuck!!! They shot him!! She saw Charlie grab him up and she was shaking trying to not panic," we just wanted some supplies!!! You didn't have to shoot him!!" She screamed at the speaker. She looked at Charlie as if beggin him to do something to fix this.
"Abby calm down. Right now we need to get him into this medic. One of her people fucked up and now we're going to deal with it. Can you hold it together for me for a minute?"
Since no one had jumped to help out he rolled his should and lifted Max in a fireman's carry. He was heavy and it made walking slow but he needed to get Max some medical attention and he needed to do it now. He was okb for now, Charles hoped, but if they didn't stop the bleeding he would be.
"Where do I take him lieutenant?"
She motioned for him to follow her saying, "this way. Our medic should be able to help him. I'm sorry Pete shot him, he's a dumbass."
Charles followed the woman into one of the buildings and laid Max down on a table. He had no clue what building they were in and it honestly didn't matter.
"Where is this medic of yours eh?"

Max groaned Charlie carried him. He didn't like being weak like this. And Abby, God abby should be here. He didn't trsut these people, and now she could be in danger. He heard her yelling, getting angry. He smirked at the thought of that, she was just like him.
"I'll get the medic," Amber said moving out of the room.
Max looked at Charlie. "Get Abby," he said wincing as he moved to sit up a little bit. "Then get the supplies. Once I'm patched up we leave. I suggest stealing. They won't just hand everything over. Maybe use authority."
Brian was in the designated Messhall. He heard over the coms that someone from his group had shot. What were they thinkig,He thought as he went to move on his crutches. If these were good people we shouldn't have ben shooting at them. He swung his leg on the crutches as he moved to the door.
Amber nearly knocked him over as she barged in. "You're needed in the medic wing," she ordered walkig out, expecting Brian to follow.
"What happened," Louis asked stepping out of the kitchen, washing a dish.
"Amber didn't say. I'm just needed," Brian said walking out after Amber. He followed her to the medic wing, getting there in decent time. He was getting faster on his crutches, glad he had practiced.
He walked in and saw his patient. Nearly falling over he looked at the man beside him. "Please tell me his name is Max."
--------
Outside Sam and Becky looked at the others. No one had more to come and Amber hadn't come out.
"So uh...you guys want to come inside," Sam asked with a big friendly smile. "We have a nice warm meal you can eat while you wait," Becky said smilig. "Follow me."
Pete stepped out to greet them. "They stay here. They ain't coming inside."
"Amber already brought two inside," Becky said raising a brow.
"Why did you fire anyway," Sam asked.
"They're here to rob us that's why. If try don't leave I'm killing them all," Pete said pointing to the three outside. "But I'll give them a good chance to get in their big ass car and leave."
Charles looked at the man who came in on crutches and one leg. What the fuck, he thought to himself. How the hell has this man survived with only one leg? He seemed to know Max and Charles really needed to go get his people. He looked at the medic.
"Yeah his name is Max, I've got to go get my people. I trust you don't have some vendetta against him, right?"
He didn't wait for an answer. The man seemed happy to see Max and in the situation they were in he would just have to hope that his happiness was genuine and not some sick pleasure.
"Max, seems this guy knows you. I'm going to go get Abby and the other's, don't die while I'm gone alright."
He turned and walked out the door and back into the courtyard just in time to hear Pete make his threat. Oh hell no, he thought to himself and walked up to the man who had shot his friend. The other two seemed nice enough and he was about to be really sorry to them but Pete needed to be taken care of.
"You two seem nice, sorry about this."
They were both in the middle of asking about what when Charles walked up to Pete and punched him in the side of his face, sending him sprawling to the ground. He didn't get back up and a small trickle of blood escaped his mouth. Charles flexed his hand and looked to the other's. They didn't seem to be jumping to defend the asshole so Charles looked over to Abby and the other's.
"Let's go. Abby, Max needs you. The rest of you are my responsibility since I brought you here. No fucking lip thanks. This situation is fucked enough as it is."

Jay sighed before taking a bottle of water out of his pack and takes a drink. He seems a little calm in all of this but thats mostly because of his past.
Abby didn't like not going with Max, but she didn't have to worry long. She got mad when she recognized the name of the man who shot him, "You are the one, you asshole!" she glanced at the other two and stood firm, expecting them to gang up with their friend.
Charlie came out then and he mumbled something and then struck the guy in the side of his head. She felt a swell of victory in her chest as she scurried to follow behind him, 'Charlie, what is going on? Where is Max?"
