When Charles returned to the ship, it was decided that everyone should move to a better location, the bunker that Psyche had mentioned earlier. On their way to New Orleans where it was located, many got separated due to a massive herd. Only the lucky few managed to get there in one piece, whereas the fate of many remained in question. Having lost a large portion of the populace, both Jace and William left to find their missing girls. Meanwhile Charles stayed put with Skylar, Addy, Psyche, Chloe, Jason and others; however what he failed to notice was the conversation some of them had about him behind his back. And when Skylar overheard it from the shadows, she learned more of what he had done.
The moment he tried to look for her afterwards he couldn`t find her, nor her son. When he asked the others about her whereabouts they knew nothing, except that most of them claimed to have seen her looking ill as of late. The news worried him, as he feared she could have gotten bitten, although it didn`t explain the reason why her child was missing. If she was bit, then there was no way she would bring her child with her into danger. No, this had to be about something else, most likely cause of him or Jace. The guilt hit him hard the moment he searched the bunker and the area around, and as he got clueless about what to do, he stopped in front of the entrance and considered his options.
There could only be a few options of where she could have gone, either she left to find jace, or William, or maybe presumably someplace safe where she could be left alone in peace. Joined by Addy, they together tried to find clues on which path she took and discovered a single set of footprints leading east. Quickly equipping themselves with weapons and provisions, Charles ran ahead with her in tow. Approximately halfway he lost the trail, due to rain and mud. Guessing on a direction, they hoped for the best. Little did they know what they were walking into, and no clue did they have as to what was happening back at the bunker.
