South Los Angeles....area in red denotes location of 77th Street Division; area in teal denotes Hollywood Park
Pulling out onto 77th Street, Alex felt than she had in some time...of course, she mused, glancing over at Piers, the man sitting in the passenger seat might've something to do with it, turning back towards the road so that she could drive. It was a three vehicle convoy - 2 Humvees, one in front and back, plus Alex and Piers in the fire-apple red LACFD fire vehicle. As always, they didn't take the same route they'd taken on their trip back to the station; this go-round it was a straight trip down South Broadway to West Century, then over to Hollywood Park.
Alex wanted to see how much progress there'd been since leaving...and of course, being the senior person there, she would be in charge of the place. Hopefully, I'll know what I'm doing, she thought....but we'll make it, smiling at Piers a moment before returning her focus to the road ahead before thinking, I wonder who's coming back to 77th with Ben....after a moment, Alex shrugged; they'd know soon enough.

Piers had driven with Alex back over a new route along 77th Street, sitting in the passenger seat with just the two of them, and he had to admit that he felt like a whole new man, much better than he had in years. He turned his head to look at Alex and grinned, and slipped his hand over to take and hold hers warmly, his fingers slipping themselves in the creases between hers while allowing his thumb to caress the back of her hand. After moment or two, he lifted his gaze back up and turned it to look out the window, wanting to see how they fared since their departure, and he had also heard chatter about someone arriving with Ben, and he couldn't help but wonder who else had joined them.

Driving along the highway, Alex looked over and smiled as Piers took her hand in his, smiling as he did, his thumb grazing the back of her hand....just as Piers turned back to look out the window, so did Alex as she needed to keep her focus on the road ahead; watching the signs as they went along, she grabbed the dashboard radio and switched it on, keying the mic. "Hollywood Park, this is Alex in the Angel of Mercy; we just passed Western Avenue. We'll be there shortly; Alex out."
Setting the radio back in the dashboard panel, Alex continued to wonder how the Park looked in the days since they'd been there and started thinking of everything she would need to do to make sure Hollywood Park was safe and secure....oh, the chains of command, she humorously mused....

Piers continued to ride as the passenger with his cheek resting on his right hand, watching the scenery pass by before looking back at Alex with a brush of his wavy hair, squinting lightly as they were slightly facing the Sun before he spoke, "So how did this place even happen? How did you get swept in this?", he asked with a light stroke of her hand again while they drove along. He didn't know where they were going, but he trusted Alex immensely.
Remembering where they were, Ben knew if they were passing Western Avenue, they were inside of thirty minutes from arriving. "Sounds like our relief has arrived; if you'll grab your gear, we'll head outside and wait for our rides to get here." He knew the easy part - taking and clearing Hollywood Park - was the easy part; the hard part would be holding it and he started going over the instructions he would give Alex for keeping the outpost secure in his absence...

How did you get swept in this?", he asked with a light stroke of her hand again while they drove along. He didn't know where they were going, but he trusted Alex immensely.
Alex thought about Piers' question for several moments. "Hollywood Park? I don't know if you noticed, but we're starting to run out of space back at 77th, so Ben and the other bosses started wondering, 'where can we put an outpost? Not just to retake the City of Angels, bit by bit, but to help relieve all the overcrowding?'
"Well, there's two big locations we looked at: Hollywood Park and the L.A. Coliseum....we may still go out to the Coliseum at some point, but for right now, they decided on the Park. In Past Times, it was a horse racing track...you know, like Churchill Downs, Pimlico, Aquaduct? Those places....no horses there, but plenty of places for people to live....
"And how did I swept in this? Well, as 77th's Senior Medic, I see and hear pretty much everything, which means I'm in a position to lead should the occasion arise...and apparently, it has; I think Ben's heading back to 77th for the time being, which means I'll be in charge for the time being while he's gone, but don't worry, Piers," pausing to smile at him as he continued to lightly stroke her hand while she drove, "I don't bite....much," playfully sticking her tongue out at him before turning back to focus on the road ahead.

Piers listened to Alex's explanation en route to the location they were assigned. His hand continued to hold her free one while she drove, and when she had finished speaking, he nodded with a light grin as he looked at her, his free hand raising to brush some of his unkempt and free brown hair before looking back out to the road ahead, "My story's rather generic. Typical high school kid encountering stupid zed-heads, forced to run...all that jazz. I never took the time to learn how to use a gun 'cause it was too risky, wouldn't be able to practice accuracy and discipline without attracting attention...and I never joined groups. I always did better by myself...at least, until I met you." he said softly with an affectionate squeeze of a slightly higher force.

Smiling as she felt Piers give her hand a more affectionate grip, Alex smiled and nodded as Hollywood Park came into focus up ahead. "Ahh, there we are," she said, slowing down and signaling the rest of the convoy where the turn-off was, "and it appears we have company up ahead," Alex added, pointing towards the small group waiting near the front of the office building. Looking over at them as she slowed the firetruck down, she noted Ben, a few others heading back to 77th and one person she didn't recognize and said, "Looks like we picked up at least one newcomer," she said, bringing the truck up to a stop near the group. Well," she continued, bringing the vehicle to a stop and shutting off the engine, "let's see what the boss wants, shall we?"

Piers nodded his head as he held Alex's hand even as this observation was made, and watched the group, and Ben, for a bit as if wondering what all was going to happen; being out of a loop in a group sucks, so he wanted to see what he could do and not be a pest in such an operation. As pointed out by Alex, Piers saw another newcomer near Ben, and wondered who it was really before he opened the door to the fire truck as he squeezed Alex's hand again, before releasing it to get out of the truck, and stood where he was to wait for her.
Okay, where are they? Ben whispered to himself as he and about a dozen other 77th residents waited outside the Hollywood Park office building that had been the station's new outpost the past two months....while there'd been a few problems - and one or two departures from the group - they'd managed to turn a moribund building into living quarters, office spaces, rest & recreation spaces and that made Ben feel awful proud for his people.
Before he continue his latent wool-gathering, he caught sight of the incoming convoy coming down Century towards the park; signaling for someone to wave a white flag in the air to signal the convoy, Ben picked up his rucksack and rifle and watched the vehicles pull up, shaking his head in humorous relief as Alex's vehicle - the Angel of Mercy - came pulling up to where he was standing. "Need a lift, boss?" Alex called out to him from the driver's side.
"Want to work the last-out guard shift back at the station, Alex?" Ben joked right back at her, smiling as the personnel switch commenced; throwing his gear inside one of the Humvees, Ben walked over to her and Piers and added, "Let me give you two the grand tour of what we've done thus far and then I want to you guys before I leave, alright?"

Climbing out of the driver's side, Alex grabbed her revolver and gear and closed the door shut, watching as personnel shuttled to and fro; given the urban setting, it was sound to do so. Looking over at Piers, Alex smiled and walked over to where Ben was standing at; as she placed her revolver in its' holster and snapped the guard shut on it, she asked, "Well, how'd everything go here while we were away?" glancing back at Piers as the three of them stood there.
