Quinn was tired. Lawrence had brought her back to belle isle in the early morning hours and she had almost immediately fallen asleep when her head touched the pillow. Her dreams were not pleasant….Logan’s face haunted her. When she awoke gasping for breath she found that she was alone in the bed…..Lawrence was undoubtedly out doing something for someone. There was a layer of sweat atop her creamy skin and Quinn climbed out of bed with a groan. She ached all over….the bruises on her arms were dark and angry, announcing to the world that someone had mistreated her. She hated that….she didn’t want anyone to treat her like a victim…Her arm was thankfully healing even with Logan’s attempts to harm her. She was determined to use her bow today…..despite the sick feeling that rolled over her like a wave.
Quinn got dressed, surprised that despite her refusal to eat more than a bite or two in Logan’s care she actually seemed a little bigger…..Surely a baby couldn’t add weight that fast…maybe she was just a little swollen or something… She sighed and forced her jeans to button, slipping on a long sleeved black shirt despite the heat, she wasn’t about to go around with those huge bruises yelling out for everyone to pity her. She didn’t need that crap. She twisted her hair up in a loose knot at the back of her head, curly golden tendrils sprung free no matter what she tried to do with it. Grabbed her bow and quiver and headed outside.
Various people were around here and there…working on this and that. But Quinn ignored them. Walking resolutely until she reached a mostly empty spot. She didn’t have a proper target…but an empty water bottle she found nearby would have to do. She set the bottle upright and moved several feet away then reached back into the quiver on her back and pulled free an arrow, one of the ones Lawrence had given her. She knocked it, steadying it against the string. And then the moment was at hand…time to pull back…hopefully her arm would hold.
She took a breath to steady herself and as she exhaled she pulled the string back. It didn’t feel great….her arm protested….but it held. She hesitated a moment, testing the water. Yes….her arm still held. And then she let the arrow fly. There was the sound of plastic crushing as the arrow dove into its center and effectively nailed it to the spot. Quinn sighed and let her bow settle to her side, a smile on her face. It was a huge relief…but the sound of footsteps on the dry earth made her turn. Her olive green eyes shifting to see a figure approaching.
