Pulling into the parking lot of the National Road Furniture Store, Tegan felt a bit of relief that the 319 miles they'd drove today, a hard slog by any measure, had only cost them one Tundra - which had, judging by the black smoke coming out from under the hood when they came back to it - apparently had a piston go through the engine block; after transferring supplies and personnel to other vehicles, they continued on...and now we're going to rest up at a furniture store, Tegan mused, stopping to glance at it with binos.
She saw Dana and her crew waiting for them outside the store, which looked like it was flanked by two equally large stores on either side. We'll have to check those out, she thought, climbing out of the Tundra and walking over, rifle slung over her shoulder, to where Dana was standing at. "Alright, Dana," she said once she joined her friend and comrade-in-arms, "once we get everyone here and parked for the day, we'll go in, clear out the furniture store there," pointing to the store in question, "and use it to rest up overnight. I want your team to lead, Dana; I'll be right behind you. Knoxville's team," pausing as the rest of her team leaders rallied around them, "Knoxville's team will cut to the left, secure that side....Pontius's team will secure the right. Dave, I want your team to watch the door; anything happens, let us know."
After a few moments, she added, "Alright, let's be about it, people."
Dana was driving, trying her best to picture what Hannah Ermitz looked like. She had the sweet voice of an angel and it was a voice that was lingering in the back of her mind as she drove steadily onward in the convoy... The plan was to head west... Tegan had a sister out on the west coast... None of them KNEW for sure that there was something out there for them out west, but the hope kept the journey alive.. When you have nothing in this harsh world hope is powerful... Hope can move mountains.... Hope brings people together... Dana's foot pushed down a little harder on the gas that usual... She was riding the bumper of the car in front of her, because she was anxious... She was anxious, because she knew Hannah had crossed into Ohio. Her sweet Hannah who had helped her griefe the loss of her friends at The Hive and stayed up every night talking to her til the sun came up these last few days... It was like being reunited with an old friend... Dana told Hannah the route they were taking and she figured that eventually they were going to cross paths.... McGehee started sining in the passenger seat.. It was just her and him in this tundra... If she murdered him there'd be no witnesses, but still it almost seemed as if he sung not only out of bordum but because he got a kick out of pissing off Dana. to drown him out she turned on the cd player... Drowing him out with Lamb of God. And cracking it all the way up.
Looking over at McGhee Dana smiled. She knew she was being an asshole but if she heard one more god dam bottle of beer on the wall she was going to fuckin castrate him! She rocked out for a minute lighting a cigerette allowing her nervous fingers to tap lightly on the wheel as she drove and sung along. Taking another puff she couldn't help but have that face she had pictured for Hannah beeming into her mind... She started to smile... Looking over she noticed that McGehee was saying something.. She sighed and cut down the music so she could hear him...
Dana: WHAT DUDE?!?!?
McGehee: Did you hear that it sounded like a ......
BIG RIG HORN!
JESUS JACKED UP CHRIST! IT'S HER! SHE'S FUCKIN HERE! Dana grabbed the radio and put the volume all the way down on the music keying the mic she smiled...
Dana: Pull the convoys over! i repeat pull over to the shoulder assholes! we got one more joining us... Oh and someone's going to need to drive with McGehee! i'm switching Cars!
Dana pulled over the truck and watched as the rest of her convoy did the same... She stepped out of the truck took one last drag of her cigerette before tossing it without looking.. Her eyes were glued to the horzion waiting for that big beautiful truck to come over the hill into view... She was nervous as fuck... It was like a blind date you brought 57 of your best friends too, bizare as fuck but those are the times we live in... The times of big rigs blind dates and 27 god dam bottles of beer left on the wall.... Dana smiled and waited... Waited for Missisippi to come and join her... She couldn't wait to introduce her to everyone. She saw everyone was starting to get out of the trucks a little confused what was happening... And Dana didn't care she only turned back to the horizon as she heard the horn again over the hill just about to come into view.

Pushing the scan button, Hannah pulled on the leather cord making the air horn blast loudly and freely. After a few seconds, she pulled it again. The former thief was starting to think maybe their radios were off until she picked up on the signal of Dana screaming into the mic. A smile came over her face as she relaxed.
Dana: Pull the convoys over! i repeat pull over to the shoulder assholes! we got one more joining us... Oh and someone's going to need to drive with McGehee! i'm switching Cars
She smiled some more before she said to herself. "Well, they're close...they heard the air horn. Might as well meet my destiny finally. Here I come sweety." Pulling her hood up, her mask up over her nose and slid her riding shades down, her gloved hand shifted into the next gear. Hannah had to look out for a convoy of some sort and size. But it had to be big enough to carry fifty-seven people. Squinting her eyes, she saw people starting to gather on the side of the road with a line of trucks on the side of the road up ahead. Slowing down and down shifting gears, Hannah began to gently apply on the brake and pulled up to the convoy. The engine rumbled like a beast until she turned the key and killed the engine. Opening the door, she put her foot out and hooked her black leather boot under the door to hold it open. Grabbing her shotgun and m1911, she put them into their holsters. Climbing down, the five foot eight woman slammed the cab door and looked over at the group that was now looking at her. Letting out a sigh, she began to walk up to them with her hand resting on her lever action twelve gauge shotgun that rested on her hip. Speaking up, her southern mixed Irish accent came out.
Hannah: Now, I'm going to presume that your the group from the HIVE on Rikers Island....now my only question I have is....Where you at my dear?
Lifting up her shades and pulling her hood back, her dirty blonde hair flowed loosely and she lowered her mask down so it rested around her neck. Her Jade colored eyes looked over everyone as she waited for Dana to show herself. Her palms began to sweat underneath her gloves as she was getting excited and nervous at the same time.
The rig pulled up to a stop right in front of Dana. Hannah stepped out and at first Dana thought she was here to rob them with the whole hood mask and shades get up.. But then the hood came down the shades went up and the mask fell away to reveal the most beautiful girl that Dana had ever seen... Dana was stunned when she confirmed it was definatly Hannah... God my god. She's gorgeous. Dana thought.. Somewhat biting her lip, she wasn't prepared.. Her hair was a short black mess underneath a grey beanie... She had on a leather jacket with grey sleeves and a pair of dirty ass mud caked skinny jeans with ripps in the knees Not exactly the stuff of dreams, but she had to do something. Everyone from The Hive was murmering among themselves wondering what was going on and who this strange woman was... She felt her cheeks burning hot and she was scared shitless... She wasn't exactly smooth with the ladies, even in the days before the world ended, but still. She had to man up because she loved her.. She fucking loved her and she couldn't help but shrink back at the thought of a soulcrushing rejection in front of everyone..She swallowed hard.. Now or never she thought.. Dana reached up and pulled the beanie from her head revealing the short black unkept hair beneath and slowly stepped towards Hannah.. God what the fuck am i thinking. She thought as she walked right up to her and kissed her! Dana's hands ran up Hannah's shoulders as their lips met for the first time.. Her heart was pounding so hard it actually hurt her chest and she locked lips...Allowing her hands on her shoulders to squeeze and not let go... If she turns me away. Dana thought. At least i'll have had this one kiss from the blonde beauty who keeps my heart.

Hannah began to think that she may have caught up to the wrong group until she saw a woman who was alittle shorter then her start to turn red and pulled off her beanie cap to reveal her short black hair. A smile came across her face as her Jade eyes stayed on the shy woman who started to walk up towards her. As Hannah was about to move and give Dana a hug, Dana decided to show her love to her by simply kissing her. Hannah was taken back by this and instead of rejecting her, she closed her eyes, held Dana close to her and returned the kiss with Passion and love. After a few good long moments of them kissing, Hannah broke the kiss finally and whispered into Dana's ear. "Your just as beautiful as I imagined you are love." Standing straight up, she looked across the crowd who seemed to have their mouth's fully wide open. Smiling again, Hannah began to speak up.
Hannah: Now, My name is Hannah Madison Emritz. If you like, you can call me by my Creed nickname, Raven. I've come along way to be with my darling Dana here,so I would like to talk to the one in charge of you all. Face to face. If anyone doesn't trust me, I'll keep my hands where you can see them away from my guns, fair enough?
Standing there still with Dana by her side, she couldn't help but look back at Dana and admire her. She fell in love with a real gem. And this gem, she will never let go of. For as long as she drew a breath, Dana will always be safe. Then she thought to herself, 'Til death do us part my love, til death do us part.' The smile widened as she then turned her attention to the crowd as someone seemed to have been moving among them towards her. With her palms aimed at the crowd to show no weapons are in her hands, since she also had no sleeves on this trench coat.
The convoy had stopped when Dana declared radomly that someone was joining them.. The seeds of mistrust planet by three years of not being able to trust hardly anyone shoutted in julies mind and she grabbed her M16 rifle after Tegan pulled offer and made her way out of the car... Turning back when Bailey began to open the back door.. Julie turned to her and held up a finger and gave her a look that said "Don'tchu get out of that care or else." She was nervous... She got out and started heading back a few cars towards where Dana was she was going to ask her in person just what the hell was going on... Julie wasn't happy... We just passed a group of walkers back there and you're having us fucking pull over for what? Everyone else started getting out as well and look around confused as Julie stalked over to where Dana was... Tegan was right behind her as she made her way, but then suddenly a big rig came into view blowing it's god dam horn like it was noah's ark coming to ride all of The Hive to safety..
Julie: Who in blue blazes is this?
A woman stepped out... A woman in a sleeveless trench coat. With long blonde hair and jade eyes.... Oh my god. Julie thought. It's her.. It's the ninja drug trip girl! But how... Why? When did..... What the fuck is going on? How come every time this girl shows up that's the only question Julie can seem to think... Just what in the hell is going on.... She never did learn the girls name back then on that night that she saved Julie's life... But now as Julie listened to her state her business she learned that it was Hannah Emritz... And Julie was making her way through the crowd to greet her when Dana walked up and kissed her, passionately... Not the kind of kiss you give someone you just met... Wait Dana knew the ninja before the outbreak? What the fuck? Julie thought... She walked up to them; only a few feet away a hand reached out and she called to her. Her other hand still holding Tegan's still dragging her along behind her.
Julie: Hannah? Do you remember me? Sister of Lane?

Climbing out of the Tundra, Tegan kept wondering just what in the hell was going on....who the hell did Dana say was joining us? she thought; this had her dander up, since she made the final decision on who joined the Scouts, not Dana. Staying just a half-step to the side of Julie, she had her rifle slung over her shoulder thinking we just passed a crowd of walkers and we're now stopped on the interstate; what the fuck is going on?....
Then Tegan saw a woman climbing out of the big rig - a very attractive honey-blond, by the looks of it, she thought - and walk right over to where Dana, who called a halt to the convoy's movement just a little earlier, was standing....she was about to say something when a combination of things happened: (1) the woman - Hannah, she said her name was - walked right up to Dana and kissed her like they were long-lost lovers and (2) Julie then said she recognized Hannah as someone from her past!
Still holding her wife's hand, Tegan followed as Julie asked the woman if she remembered her from Past Times; it left her feeling awestruck, not just for Peach but for Dana as well....okay, scratch 57 souls, she thought....we've now got 58 souls....

Hannah watched a familiar woman who pregnant come charging up to her and Dana with a woman just steps away from her. When she finally realized who it was, Hannah smiled again and nodded her head.
Hannah: How Can't I forget you Julie, I gave you my word of my family and Creed that I would watch over you when that man tried to....Do things to you. And congratulations on the upcoming child. I'm glad to see that your still alright. Buuuut...
Hannah's eyes went over towards Tegan. Her eyes looked her over once and saw how she stood, her body posture. Authority. She seemed nice enough to lead them to wherever they are going. A type of person Hannah could follow to the front lines with. And she was pretty sure that this lady before her next to Julie was willing to charge to the front lines with the rest of them.
Hannah: I do believe I need to talk to you at some time for it seems you have the aura of authority upon you for this group...Now it would seem that I caused some trouble by alerting the dead to try and get all yall's attention and I'm sure you all have questions I would be happy to answer. But with the hoard behind us and a good amount of them ahead of us plus with vehicles, how about I make myself some good use? My 358 Peterbelt behind me can clear the way of anything that gets in our way, let alone a Tank. Julie, I would like to catch up with you later on if we have the time to do. For now, lets get saddled up and let me clear the way for you guys.
Turning back around, she started to head for the big rig when she stopped and looked at Dana and thought for a moment. Turning to face her as she started to go to the passenger side of the truck, she popped the door open and stood there as she said to her leaning against the side of the rig.
Hannah: Now Love, I do remember hearing that you wanted to Car swap. I need a person to ride shotgun if you fancy for a little trip in my big truck. -Then winks at her with a big happy smile.-
Dana was dumbstruck.. Not only was Hannah right in front of her but she knew Julie? But before even the first question could escape her lips Hannah was alerting everyone to the approaching herd that could be seen over the hill she just came from... Looks like everyone needs to get going she thought. Raising her radio for those who couldn't immediately hear her she keyed the mic.
Dana: Alright people we're headed out.... Let's be about it people!
Often times she caught herself using Tegan's little catch phrase, but she emulated her in many ways... She wanted to be the kind of leader Tegan was, she was her mentor, just like Daniel was Tegan's mentor... Dana gave Tegan and Julie a slight nod and limped over to the Tundra she came from she grabbed her bag and her Ak, MP7 and waved goodbye to the most annoying carpool on the planet and said hello to the sexiest one. She limped back over to the rig and looked at the behemoth wondering just how the fuck her short limpy ass was going to get up there... She looked to Hannah...
Dana: I may need some help getting in this beast..
With an assist from Hannah she climbed in and heard the door slam shut... She watched as Hannah disappeared in front of the massive hood and caught herslf wondering what was next for her, what was next for them... Her voice may be honey but her looks were pure sugar. She watched as Hannah climbed in the cab and started the beast up... The hum of the engine was loud and the whole cab shook with vibrations... Dana looked behind her and saw the queen bed in the sleeper... Her mind instantly went to a devilish place as her nervous hand crept over on the seat and grabbed Hannah's She grabbed her hand and it didn't feel like the hand of a person she just met. It felt like the hand of a woman she's known all her life. A woman she loved and couldn't stop thinking about... She squeezed her hand with a sly smile she said.
Dana: Let's clear a path for them and sail our way into Michigan... I believe i made you a promise last night.... Off to the great lakes?

Watching as Julie and Hannah talked to each other, Tegan wondered how they would be to fit Hannah into the group, but it soon became obvious to her that if Hannah had Julie's confidence, then that was all she needed...then Hannah turned towards Tegan and spoke... I do believe I need to talk to you at some time for it seems you have the aura of authority upon you for this group...Now it would seem that I caused some trouble by alerting the dead to try and get all yall's attention and I'm sure you all have questions I would be happy to answer. But with the hoard behind us and a good amount of them ahead of us plus with vehicles, how about I make myself some good use? For now, lets get saddled up and let me clear the way for you guys.
"I'm one step ahead of you, Hannah," Tegan replied, keying her shoulder mic. "Alright, everyone, we need to move, we got company coming," followed seconds later by Dana essentially saying the same thing over the radio as well. Running back to the Tundra, Tegan held the door open for her wife, closing it only after she had climbed into the passenger seat (Bailey having stayed inside the truck)...running across to the driver's side, Tegan climbed aboard and got the vehicle started again, keying her mic once more...."Okay, everyone, mic check: let me know when you're ready to go."
As she heard every vehicle driver sound off over the radio, Tegan thought to herself, we have got to find some shelter overnight...then she thought, looking at her map very quickly, we find a place to fill up, we might just be able.... "McGhehey, you and Pontius, get ahead of the big rig and find us a place to fill up every vehicle full of fuel. Our next stop, ladies and germs: Belle Isle, Detroit...."

When Dana asked for some help, Hannah helped her up by allowing Dana to use Hannah as a support post. Once on the first step, Hannah placed her left hand on the middle of Dana's ass and started to help by pushing with all the strength in her arm as Dana hopped up each step until she was inside the cab. Walking around the front, she saw the massive horde getting closer slowly. Shaking her head, she took off her trench coat to reveal that she was wearing a black beater and it showed parts of her back tattoo on her neck and her shoulders. Climbing up into the rig, she tossed the Trench coat to behind the driver seat and buckled in. Turning the key and slamming her own door, she heard the woman from earlier speak over the radio. The 358 Detroit engine came to life and the cab shook, shaking in excitement. Picking up the mic, she keyed in. Hannah: Hannah and Dana strapped in. Goliath is ready to roll out.
Feeling Dana's hand over her's as she was about to shift into first gear, Hannah looked over at her and smiled brightly at her. Nodding her head slowly, Hannah shifted into first gear, turned the wheel hard and made the rig start to roll. Shifting again, the big red Peterbelt lurched forwards gaining speed. But she made sure that she kept the speed down so that the vehicles of the Convoy could keep up with her. Shifting gears again, the engine roared with a deep humming sound while black exhaust jetted out the Stacks on either side of the Cab. The first vehicle that was smashed off to the side was a 2002 Ford Taurus. What was left of the Taurus was a mangled mess of steel, vinyl and some fiber glass as it spun off the road in sparks. Both Hannah and Dana rocked a little inside the cab from the impact, but Hannah kept the rig going. Clearing a path for the convoy behind them. Walkers began to stumble onto the road out in front of the rig called Goliath. The only things that the rest of the convoy would see of those walkers as some body parts and blood splatters from the point of impact. After a good of distance (Determined by Tegan) Hannah pulled out the Road Atlas that was tucked into the side door panel. She flipped through the pages til she hit Ohio and handed it to Dana.
Hannah: Love, I need you to find us where we are at. I want to make sure that we make it to the Lakes by tonight as well. After you find the spot, take the green sharpie out of the cup holder and make a dot. After that, you can go rest up on the bed. The road is mostly cleared now, so you don't have to worry about falling out of that bed. Heh, now you don't have to worry about find a place to sleep and sharing with somebody you don't like....you have one here with me.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Two Hours later....
Hannah brought down the sun visor to show a 6 disk CD holder. She pulled out a purple and black CD and slid it into the CD player. The first song that came on was Walk with me in Hell by Lamb of God. Hannah began to sing along to the song as she kept shifting gears and making sure that her eyes were on the road and there was no obstacle in the path for the rest. Dana had marked the spot and was asleep. Looking around though, she hadn't heard word about the two vehicles that went up ahead to find a suitable spot for them to hunker down and to fuel up the vehicles. Turning the CD player down, she grabbed the Mic and keyed in. Hannah: Goliath to Leader 1, what do you want to do? Havent heard scuttlebug from the two scouts that you had sent out earlier. From what I see up here, the road is pretty clear for now. Want to pull over and look over the Road Atlas? It will also give me time to clean out my grill of the dead parts. Dana is rack out. Come back over.

Driving along, Tegan was ready to pull off the interstate and find a place to hole up for a few hours before making the final push to Belle Isle; listening to the radio traffic between McGhehey, Pontius and their scouts teams , she felt confident they'd find somewhere to stop for the time being...then her radio chirped. Goliath to Leader 1, what do you want to do? Havent heard scuttlebug from the two scouts that you had sent out earlier. From what I see up here, the road is pretty clear for now. Want to pull over and look over the Road Atlas? It will also give me time to clean out my grill of the dead parts. Dana is rack out. Come back over.
Keying her shoulder mic, Tegan spoke. "Leader 1, copy; wait one." Switching frequencies she quickly got on the horn to McGhehey. "Ehren, this is Tegan, how copy, over?"
"Solid copy, Tegan," came the reply. "I got Pontius and his team in sight just ahead of me; I'm about a quarter-mile past where US 42 cuts across Interstate 80....there's a large truck stop ahead that they're looking at just off the west-bound side."
"Let me know when they clear, Ehren. Tegan out." Switching frequencies, Tegan got back on the radio with Hannah. "Goliath, this is Leader 1; they're checking out a truck-stop a quarter-mile past where US 42 cuts across I-80," pausing as her radio chirped. "Wait one." Switching back, she said, "Go ahead, Ehren."
"We're clear; just waiting for you guys," Ehren replied, having joined Pontius and his Suicide Climbers at the truck stop.
"Ehren, you're a doll; hold that position for us. Tegan out." Switching frequencies once more to the Scout-wide frequency, Tegan spoke once more. "All Scouts, this is Leader 1; destination is a truck-stop about a quarter-mile west of where US 42 crosses I-80, on the west-bound side. Proceed there and we'll rest and refit for a few hours before continuing on. Leader 1 out." Cutting the radio off, she looked over at Julie and smiled. "Sometimes I want to kick McGhehey's ass, but there ain't a better human bloodhound among us..."

While Hannah waited for Tegan to get back to her about the plan, she looked back to see if Dana was alright. And to her surprise, she had got a beautiful look at her lover wearing just a shirt. Her eyes looked her over and saw the bad ankle in question. A frown came over her face as she went back to looking at the road. Then her radio chirped with Tegan finally giving the word.
"All Scouts, this is Leader 1; destination is a truck-stop about a quarter-mile west of where US 42 crosses I-80, on the west-bound side. Proceed there and we'll rest and refit for a few hours before continuing on. Leader 1 out."
Picking up her mic, she keyed it in and replied. "10-4 Leader one, Goliath dropping the hammer. Goliath out." And quickly ended the link. Hanging her mic back up, she shifted again after flipping the switch on the head of the Stick shift to shift into the next set of higher gears. The big rig produced more black exhaust as speed began to pick up. 'Getting close, you just lay there and relax. I'll take good care of you sweetie, I promise.' Hannah thought to herself in her head while the convoy was rolling down the road. She began to think of different code names should could possibly used. Spear point 1, Wrecking ball, Titan, Plow 1, Road cleaner. All these nicknames could fit one way or the other and she chuckled to herself.
======= Dana's dream in the sleeper on the rig ==========
The sun overhead cast a warm light on her fair skin as Dana walked. Her ankle wasn't hurt nor was she with a group. These were the days before The Hive. The days before comrodery and friendship. She knew only sadness, death, and the cold sting of being alone. Dana's untied combat boots kicked up dirt and dust as she quietly made her way through a gravel parking lot. She needed to find food. Needed to find a safe bed for the night. she needed to find a grreat many things, a purpose in life being atop her list of priorities. Taking time to check the cars in the parking lot she searched. Quietly and vigerously she searched the cars. There wasn't much reason to talk. Who was she going to talk to the ravens? She looked up and saw sitting on a telephone wire a jet black raven. Piercing eyes watching over her, as if it knew her somehow. Dana stared back at it and it cocked it's head to the side and squawked at her.. Stupid bird she thought. As it squawked again. Dana went back to her search. Nothing. Just old fast food wrappers some loosing lotery tickets and the stentch of abandonment. It was hot out...She pulled off her leather jacket and tied the sleeves around her waist, after pulling off her beanie and stuffing it in her pocket. She wore a pair of grey jeans and a tank top. She didn't pay much attention to how she looked. Another squawk. What's that god dam bird's problem with me? She thought. She shut the door and looked around.. There were a few geeks shambling towards here but they weren't close. She was held up in a clothing store for awhile, but after she saw that walker that looked like her sister Sophie she didn't go back. Slinging her backback straps back on her shoulders she made her way to the small diner. It was New York... Rural areas like this weren't common but she didn't question it. She ran up the steps giving one last look at the dead before pulling the door open.....
As the door opened the raven swooped down and flew inside landing on the counter and turned to face her. She stood there. The door closed behind her and see watched it. SQUAWK! Was it watching over me? She thought to herself.. That's crazy. It's just a god dam bird. She slowly stepped behind the counter, taking notice of the fact that the piercing jade colored eyes never left her. They followed her around the room and watched over her. SQUAWK! Just as the bird cried out like it was giving her a warning... Dead hands reached out for her... They were coming from the window that lead to the kitchen, so that the short order cooks could pass out food.. Reaching, grabbing for her it grabbed her shirt tightly and she stumbled backwards pulling it into the room with her as she fell on her ass. The thing slide through the little window and was grabbing for her boots..
Dana: Get the fuck off me creep!
Her ankle was killing her now. The pants leg had rode up to reveal a deep dark purple bruise already forming.. It hurt so bad she didn't think she'd be able to stand on it as she frantically searched for her pocket knife! Fuck its in the jacket tied around my waist! Dead fingers clawing, Dead teeth hungrliy snapping at her! Pulling it's way up her legs up her thighs, ready to sink teeth into her pretty face! Dana frantically searched for the knife but it fuckin didn't want to be found... I'm going to die. I'm going to die right here in this shitty diner! She thought.. Suddenly the raven swooped in. Landing on the geek's head and began to peck furiously at it's rotting skull... The pecks echoed in the tiny diner.. Dana watched in stunned amazement. The walker growled and reached for her, paying the bird no mind at all.. Only wanting the delicious flesh that stumbled into his fast food tomb. The raven kept pecking and pecking and pecking, until it's sharpe black beak pierced the skull and pecked brain matter beneath. After a few more pecks the walker was dead. The raven, still sitting on it's head turned to Dana. It opened it's wings wide and cocked it's head. SQUAWK!
*Dana laid in the sleeper bed rolling around moaning at the weird dream.. She had taken Hannah up on her offer. Crawling in the back with the bed and pulling off her tight pants so that her ankle could breathe a little and revealing the pink boy shorts she wore beneath.. She took off her jacket and threw that and her beanie in the passenger seat and laid down.. Exhausted having stayed up all night talking to the beautiful Hannah.. It wasn't long before she fell asleep and fell into the bizare dream... But as she slept Tegan, Julie, Hannah, everyone from The Hive worked on getting a place to spend the night... In the morning, they were going to push the pedal to the floor and haul ass to Michigan. Dana and Hannah had a date there at the great lakes, and Tegan and The Hive, wanted to reach out to the stronghold there... The one that had long been talked about forming an alliance with The Hive.

After hours of driving to the north and west of western Maryland, Thomas and Zoey found themselves south of Cleveland, traveling - miracle of miracles, east on the I-80 - towards what looked like a truck stop; slowing down to make the exit, he turned and signed to Zoey, We'll stop her for a bit, fill up on fuel.
Driving towards the truck stop, Thomas noticed there was activity around the truck stop....a couple of trucks, some people-- Suddenly, a couple of them had guns drawn, pointed straight at them. Stopping the PGW van, Thomas rolled his window down and heard them yelling at them to stop the vehicle...which he did; they then yelled at both him and Zoey to get out of the vehicle, slowly.
Looking over at Zoey, Thomas signed, Do what they say; make no sudden moves. Opening the driver's side door, he stepped out, hands up and asked them who they were, hoping he could at least talk them into letting him and Zoey get a little bit of fuel and letting them move on from the truck stop...

Zoey watched Thomas and what he did, nodding to show acknowledgment before slowly stepping out of the truck with her own hands up. For her own comfort, she had her jacket tied firmly about her waist, leaving her chest and torso barred only by a simple white cloth tanktop as her heterochromic eyes looked ahead towards the armed people. She didn't know if they were bandits or armed survivors, and with her hands up, she couldn't effectively sign to Thomas. She had her new tape recorder, however, voice-banked with a whole directory of segments of PA clips, documentary and tutorial tapes, et cetera, which she could use for communication. How she got it? Apparently, there was another survivor that died somewhere between Ohio and Pennsylvania with it, also a mute, and it was already voice-banked when she found it.

Stepping out of the van, Thomas explained to one of the men holding weapons at them who they were... "Listen, my name's Thomas," he said, keeping his hands raised, "and this is my friend, Zoey," using a raised hand to point towards her. "We just need to get some fuel and we'll be on our way..."
"I'll let our boss decide that, but in the meantime," the man said, slinging his rifle over his shoulder, "you can put your hands down," walking over to Thomas. "Ehren McGhehey," he said, offering Thomas a handshake. "And you are?" he added.
"Thomas Gregory," he said, shaking McGhehey's hand as they stood there; turning towards Zoey, he signed, You can put your hands down; these aren't bandits but fellow survivors. Turning back towards McGhehey, he added, "This is Zoey, she's with me...she's mute, so we use sign language to communicate with each other and with others," trying to defuse the situation. He knew Zoey could communicate as well - she'd signed to Thomas about the tape recorder full of pre-recorded phrases a while back - but he just wanted to get them out of the late afternoon sun as fast as possible.

Zoey listened to what Thomas said, and nodded slowly before lowering her hands, though did pull out her tape recorder and rewound it a bit before pressing the "Play" button, "Thank you,", before fast-forwarding it enough to her liking before stopping the playback and then pocketing it again, smiling with a nod to the other survivors. It's as if she was just getting used to using it.
After a few hours. Dana's eyes gently fluttered awake. She sat up and looked over to see Hannah was still driving... She let me get some sleep? Dana thought. Her smile growing wider.. that was nice of her... Dana would offer to do the same but she couldn't drive the rig. She grabbed her pants and laid back over the bed.. Pulling them up over her pink boy shorts.. She had to arch her back off the bed to get them over her rear and the weight on her ankle when she did this caused her to cry out... She allowed herself to lay down again and buttoned her pants before once again sitting up and making her way tot he front seat... She felt rested and besides her ankle she felt pretty good. She was a little hungry... Everyone was cutting back on rations while they were on the road to 1 a day. They didn't want to run out of food, before they got to their next destination, and they didn't want Julie to go without eating.. Julie was still getting two meals a day... She had to eat more for the baby. Julie felt terrible about eating more than everyone else, but everyone including Dana wanted it that way... That baby was going to god dam make it! Danna climbed into the passenger seat scratching her head a bit. She looked over to Hannah.
Dana: Thanks....For...Uh... Letting me get some rest back there. It's a comfy bed.
They had chemistry, that wasn't in question. Their conversations were wonderful.. She opened up to this woman in ways that few people if any that were still living knew about. She was valunerable with this woman. She wasn't afraid to let her see the real her.. The inner Dana that doesn't come out. Dana usually wore the thick skinned tough Dana disguise that was all brash and cockyness with no fear... Dana had fears and insecurities like anyone else... The biggest of which was dying alone.. That was her biggest fear, that in the end. When she was taking her last breathes.... There'd be no one beside her to share in her final moments... No one that cared to risk death to see her off... The Hive you do not leave a man behind, but there are times... Like when swarmed by the dead and they've been bitten several times... You don' risk your life for a corpse, friends, people die everyday... The world is harsh like that now... But Dana just didn't want to die alone.. It was something she shared with this girl in one of their conversations that lasted well into morning.. They knew each other on a deep spiritual and emotional level, yet they were still strangers, they had to learn how to just ..... Be around each other... Dana was loud and cocky and arrogant, but when it came to matters of love, matters of the heart and someone she liked... She was shy, bashful, and uncofident... The matters of love were the only time she was ever unconfident... Dana was looking at the floorboards daring tiny glances at Hannaha's beauty every so often.
Dana: I .... *Dana closed her mouth and looked out the window*
Her cheeks were flushed red.. She was so nervous.. She had been ballsy and walked right up and kissed her. But she was so embarrassed by her forwardness earlier, now she couldn't look her in the eye, no matter how beautiful they were. She was completely off her game and couldn't get over the shy bashful butterflies swirling around in her stomach like a whirlwind of screaming emotions... Love, Shyness, fear................ Loneliness. Dana wanted to crawl in her lap while she drove the rig. Just crawl in her lap curl her arms around her neck and rest her head on her shoulder and fall asleep again. Press her ear to her chest and listen close to see if Hannah's heart skipped a beat like hers. She wanted to, but instead she absentmindly pulled at a thread in the seat and stuttered like an idiot.... She was embarrased. And a little bit missing McGehee's singing at the moment.

Linkin Park was playing over the CD player, Breaking the Habit, while Dana rested her beautiful head in the back. Hannah kept her eyes on the road and the possible hazards. The bigger objects like other rigs or trailers, she avoided. When she swerved to avoid something, the rest of the Convoy did in pursuit. On the stretch they were on now, she didn't need to do pretty much anything but lead the group to the truck stop which hopefully wasn't to far now. Hannah all but twisted her head back to see what was going behind her in the back to see that Dana was trying to get her tight jeans back on. Frowning to herself. She was tempted to radio Tegan who was behind her that she was going to pull over and deal with her lover's poor swollen ankle. But she didn't. When Dana climbed into the passenger seat, Hannah leaned back into her seat and took her right hand and reached behind her feeling for something. When her fingers felt what she was looking for, she pulled it out from the open bag. It was a pair of make shift shorts she made out of a pair of her ripped jeans. Handing them over to Dana, Hannah said while getting her right hand back on the stick shift.
Hannah: Put these on love, you need to releave some of that pressure off your ankle. The more pressure you put on it, the worse it's going to get infected and you will lose blood flow to it. There's a medical kit behind my seat on a shelf, go Into it and grab the green bottle that is in it. It's anti-biotic's. Take two and drink them with my water. -she picked up her canteen from off the floor and handed it over to her.- Plus, I like to see you in your pink shorts.
Hannah looked over at her smiling and winked at Dana. With her eyes back on the road, she grabbed her pack and pulled out the last cig and her Zippo that had two doves on it that formed a heart with their chest, neck, head and their beaks. Fling, floomf. Smoke came up as she exhaled two jets of menthol smoke from her nose. Hannah kept making sure she was going to do what she was asked to do. Thinking about those very tight pants and the fact it's to be a bitch for her to get it off, she pulled out one of her daggers from her wrist sheath and handed it to her saying to her.
Hannah: Now I know that you might like those pants love, but you need to cut them off, or at least cut off enough of the legging that your ankle wont have a hard time getting out of your pants. If you don't do it hun, I will pull this truck over and I will do it myself....besides, it give me a chance to hold you to me. I'm not trying to be bitchy or bossy, I'm just trying to watch over you with your injury love.
Hannah felt bad as she began to think about what she just did and said in the last few moments since Dana getting back up from resting. She let out a sigh and somewhat slunched in her seat as she shifted into the next gear.
Shauna Kelly: That helped, thank you
