...Human beings in a mob
What's a mob to a king?
What's a king to a god?
What's a god to a non-believer?
Who don't believe in anything?
We make it out alive
All right, all right
No church in the wild....
As the convoy of Tundras and other vehicles turned off the interstate onto what looked like an enormous parking lot, in the center of which stood a hotel/truck stop, Tegan could see Pontius's truck up ahead, him and the rest of his Scout team out and about, waiting for them. Scanning the area with her binos, Tegan couldn't see anything amiss - if there had anything amiss, she thought, Pontius would've called it in - and figured this was as good a place as any to rest for the night. Off in the distance, the evening sun was beginning its' slow, inexorable dip down across the western horizon, so they knew didn't have a lot of time to go before they would have to shelter-in-place for the night.
Grabbing her radio, Tegan switched it on and keyed the mic. "Alright, everyone, we're going to stop her for the night; as soon as we're stopped, I want team leaders to rally at Pontius' Tundra up ahead; while we're doing that, I need the vehicles turned around so that, if we have to, we can leave in a hurry if need be...
"Once we're set up for the evening, we're going to go through the truck stop, make sure nothing's amiss there, then go through the hotel and secure as many rooms as we need for the night. Once we've done that, I don't want anyone going into areas' we haven't secured; we don't have enough time to search every room, so whatever we secure, that's our redoubt for the night. Tegan out."
As she switched the radio off, she looked over towards Julie and lightly squeezed her hand, thankful her wife was by her side; glancing back, she looked at Bailey and asked, "How 'ya holding up?"
