Jace cringed hearing branden speak her name and he looked down. "It was a fools hope to find her still alive. She was still to injured to be able to survive. Even someone as tough as her.." Jace spoke in a soft but sad tone. He looked over his shoulders at the others whom he had just met. His eyes fell on jill before they turned back to branden who hugged him like a bear.
"Sorry to lead ya on a chase across the country but I couldn't stay there anymore." He said when branden released his grip then proceeded to tell him he looked like shit. "Well if memory serves you never look great after a night of drinking yourself brother. Not to mention you got a homeless serial killer beard going for you. When was the last time you shaved?" He said with a laugh and joking tone to branden.
His eyes moved to see jess and he hugged her. Her belly was a lot bigger and she looked ready to pop. "Hey I would've loved you more if you had shot him. Smug asshole." Jace spoke remembering the man and how much he wanted to put a bullet in him. When jess went to approach the others on the beach jace turned and followed her. "This is Jill and her brother Jace. They found me passed out on the beach. Jill was nice enough to not kill me before asking questions for which I'm thankful."

Sharing a good laugh with his brother and friend, he very much enjoyed the joke he made about him looking like a homeless serial killer, to which he added. “Nah, can`t shave this beard, that would ruin my image.” He chuckled rubbing it, patting Jace on the back as they both turned to face Jess who arrived. Smiling at her as she approached, he watched when the two hugged each other, feeling a sense of relief that they were all united at last. However hearing the mention of Charles made him immediately think of Skylar, who they had left behind in the bunker to fend for herself. Oh what fate she may have suffered by them leaving, he thought.
As Jace began to speak of the others and Jess went to join them, he brushed the concern for Skylar off for just a moment and took his time to understand the situation. “Good thing they did, we`ve been finding bottles left and right from you all the way from Louisiana.” He said and looked around at what they had been doing, seeing the pyre burn in the background. “You trust them then?” He asked curious, wanting to know his personal opinion without letting the others hear. “Ain`t every day one come across friendlies these days, most are either cannibals or psycho killers. Now I`m not saying they are, Jill seems like a good enough girl, but yea, just making sure. If you say they are good people though then I believe you.” He said and smiled, ready to protect his friend if need be.
Taking a few steps around in front of Jace, he couldn`t help but to feel slightly chilly from the wind that crept up from the sea, despite the burning fire close by, and as he tucked his hands in his pockets to keep warmth he continued. “Look man, I totally understand you wanted to go look for her. I`ve been there done that myself, you got nothing to apologize brother. I`m just glad you`re okay.” Looking to Jess, he watched her interaction with the others, though just by looking at her baby stomach he could tell it wouldn`t be long before she popped. “So are you staying here then? Cause, if you are, so do we and Jess needs a place to settle down for a bit. She`s due any time now I`d guess.”
Jack saw a woman and a very pregnant woman coming up over the dunes carrying a crossbow. Yet another has arrived and this one was pregnant! She was probably the girlfriend of the man that just arrived and as the bonfire of bodies burned, he looked at his sister with a stern gaze as the woman approached. But that gaze wouldn't last long. She was pregnant, not bitten. She had a life inside of her and she would need help. He had never delivered a baby before and he hoped someone other than him would be able to do it.
Jill was far more relaxed then he was about all this and he didn't want to make a scene. Certainly not now. Him and Jill were outnumbered on the beach by just these three alone and instead of saying or doing anything more, he decided to just back down. Maybe if he tried to relax like his sister this would be much, much easier.
Jill smiled at her brother as he turned away from the trio that were all old friends apparently, speaking out to them across the breaking waves.
"Don't stay out here too long. Those bikes may have caused a stir and brought some attention this way."
He was serious when he said that before turning back to the dunes and heading back to the condo. He stopped next to the pregnant girl who introduced herself as Jess to his sister. "And you need to get off your feet. Get some rest and out of the sun."
He turned back to head inside seeing as all the bodies that were in the water had been pulled to shore. He was certain high tide would push more debris in as the day went on, or the next few days for that matter. They could pluck all that stuff out as it washed up. He just hoped maybe they would find something useful from that boat.
But Jack stopped as Jess introduced herself to Jill. He came up beside his sister and offered her a smile and a nod. "I'm Jack, this is my sister Jill." He stood there awkwardly for a moment looking at the pretty girl that looked as if that baby was coming any day. He had sympathy for her plight. "If...if you want to come back to the condo with me I can get you some water. Maybe something to eat? When was the last time you actually got to eat something?"
Jill turned as the woman came over the dunes holding the crossbow, much to her surprise. She was about to pull out her gun until she saw the pregnant belly. The woman managed to move pretty good being that pregnant, which was surprising to her. She blinked a few times and watched as her brother at first, took a protective stance, then backed down again. She couldn't help but notice her brother staring at the woman's belly. "Jack, you're staring, cut it out."
Before she could even open her mouth to get an introduction in, Jack stepped up and spoke both of their names. She raked fingers through her long, golden dresses and offered a smile. "Hi there. We're not hostile. We met your other friend Jace just this morning."
She turned to see Jace had come back up the beach with the other guy in tote and she offered a hand to the long-haired biker. "I'm Jill. Did I hear your name as Branden?" She offered a hand for him to shake before stepping back as she answered Branden's observation. "Yea, we're good people. We're not here to rob, rape or kill you. But can you say the same about yourselves?"
She crossed her arms over her chest and looked at Jack who seemed to be taking a shine to the pregnant woman. She could only assume Jess and Branden came here together which meant maybe that was his baby and the thought crossed her mind that her brother was possibly stepping into dangerous territory with her. But really, he was only offering her some food and water.
"It's been a long time since we've seen a pregnant woman. How far along is she?"
She recalled the last soon to be mom, which was about a year and a half go. The woman came to them, begging to help her and her baby. By the end though, things were dark. Things were terrifying. The baby was already dead inside the woman, and like a tumor, it quickly killed her two. The worst part of it all was discovering what happens when a baby dies inside the womb. She shivered a bit and suddenly her blood ran cold.
"Yea, we should get off the beach. Let's go inside. We can all talk there."
Jace lets a chuckle escape his lips when Branden Talked about his image. "Whatever you Say Lumberjack." He said with a smile and his eyes followed Jess over to the others. "Yeah, they seem okay. Don't think Tarzan likes me very much but he's an older brother. I was never good with Brothers." He said with a smirk and nudge to Branden's Shoulder. That's when Jill came to introduce herself to Branden and made comments about them not being there to rob or rape. Then she heard the question about jess who was over to the Side. Jack had approached her and offered her to go get food.
"Honestly she's probably gonna pop any day now. Try not to bring up the Rape subject around her. She was captured, Tortured, Beaten and Raped by a biker gang somewhere here in Cali. When I found her in Louisiana She was terrified of everyone. Took a long time to get her to warm up to anyone." Jace said quietly enough where only Jill would hear the conversation. "Just don't need to upset her being this far along pregnant and all." He said with a smile towards Jill.
His gaze moved to Jack who said they shouldn't stay outside much longer. Jace Agreed and he shot a quick glance to branden then Jill. "Lead the way ma'am." His tone polite as he watched Jess who was already wandering off with Jack. He had just met the two on the beach but he didn't believe that He would hurt a pregnant woman. Though he wasn't sure how branden would react to Tarzan taking a shine to Jess already. Jace would just have to make sure everyone kept a level head. He knew what had happened to Stormyr's dad and even though that was a different situation. He knew his buddy didn't take well to men hitting on his girl.
Jess smiled when The tall man stepped forward and introduced himself and his sister. "Nice to meet you both." She spoke sounding as comfortable as she could. Her eyes had a habit of darting around the scenery. When she had left Cali all those months ago she never intended to come back. This place brought out her fears of being recaptured by those animals. She heard Jill talking to Branden about them not being there to rape or kill anyone. The comment made her slightly pale and her gaze fell to the ground. When Jack spoke up offering her food and water she let her eyes fall on him.
"That actually would be great. I'm starving and could really use a rest."She said with a smile as she moved closer to Jack. Months ago she would've Avoided these people at all cost but being around Jace and Branden things got better. She wasn't worried because jace and branden would make sure nothing happened to her so this man didn't concern her. "So Jack you were born in Cali? You got the surfer dude look. I'm from Here myself. Sanberdino is my hometown. Been down in Louisiana up until now." She said as she walked beside him to wherever he was gonna lead her.
After walking a bit she followed him into what she figured what the apartment he lived in. "Nice place you got here. Makes me wonder what my apartment looks like by now." She said with a laugh before she found a spot on the couch. It felt so nice to be off that bike and somewhere comfy. "Thanks For not Killing Jace. He is a good guy he just lost his wife when our group got split up. Hes just kinda torn up and been in a rough way. Gotta say im impressed he got this far though." Jess said to Jack softly. Looking around the apartment she waited for the rest to join them. Then again she wasn't even sure if Jack and his sister stayed the in the same place.

Hearing that Jace thought them to be good people was a relief, though he understood the trouble with the brother, which wasn`t exactly new, but if his friend could vouch for them then that was all he needed to know. Feeling reassured with a hand placed on his shoulder, he smiled back at Jace when they all of the sudden heard the female speak in the background, saying that she could ask them the same thing. After he turned around to face her, they exchanged pleasantries by shaking hands and in reply he answered. “You`re right about that miss, but trust me, you got nothing to fear from us. Me and her…” He motioned to Jess that walked over to the guy and looked back at Jill. “We`re only here cause of him.” Branden looked to Jace. “Though we don`t seek to hurt anyone.” He added with another smile.
Just as he said his part and she asked another question regarding the pregnancy, Jace interrupted with an answer of his own, telling that she would probably pop any moment and that it wasn`t a good idea to bring up the rape subject around Jess due to what had happened. The very thought of what the girl may have endured was enough to have Branden pity her, though it also filled his heart and mind with rage. If he could have helped her at the time, then he would have, but now all he could do was make the best out of it. Having traveled with her over a long distance he knew much about the story, though could tell it still bothered her in some way and he feared what it would do to her now that she was back in California.
Once the surfer guy told them that it would be best to not stay outside too long, he heard Jace`s answer and agreed that Jill should lead the way. As they followed her along the beach to catch up with the others, Branden got a good look at Jess who walked ahead next to Jack as if they were already friends, a peculiar sight at first glance, but at which he brushed off as nothing important. By the time they reached the building and got inside, he already found her seated relaxed on the couch. Amused he smiled and looked around saying. “Whoa, not bad!” Placing the shotgun against the wall next to the door, he took a few steps in and sat down right next to Jess, placing a hand on her knee to show comfort.
Jack smiled a bit when she smiled at him. She was pretty, no doubt about that. She seemed to be almost glowing but that was probably because of the baby in her belly. He felt like she could still glow though, regardless. It had been a long time since she had seen such a pretty girl. It had been a long time since he had been attracted to anyone else. He watched as the last girl he started to get attached to died trying to run away from three biters that took her down.
He watched her eyes go to the ground and frowned a bit as she looked ashen. He went to her, and offered a hand and an arm around her. "Are you okay? You look like you're about to pass it." It was a simple gesture that was meant to assist her back to the condo where she could rest.
She nodded and looked at him as she spoke about where she grew up. "San Bernadino is nice. We used to go camping there in the summer. I loved those mountains." He kept his hands loose in case she wanted to pull away from him. He was a stranger after all. "Me and Jill were from Beverly Hills, but we always liked it out here in Santa Monica better. We were on our way to become pro-surfers. We were just starting on the circuit when all this...you know...happened."
When he said they were from the Hills, he realized how pretentious that sounded. It always sounded that way to anyone who wasn't from there. Even then, there were breakdowns of classes in Beverly Hills. There was celebrity, rich and the mega rich. He never much ran in the super rich circles. He thought they were pretentious too.
He walked her back to the bottom condo which was an empty space now. Him and Jill lived upstairs together but she didn't need to know that. She could stay down here but he worried about her safety suddenly. Bottom floor apartments were an easy target. When she sat down, he moved to the sliding glass door that opened to the ocean to get a cool breeze in for her. She thanked him for not killing Jace, which he wasn't going to do anyways. "I'm just protective of my sister. We've lost people here and I don't want to lose her. I don't want to have to leave either. This was our home before everything and I'm hoping we can keep it our home after too.
He moved into the kitchen, looking through cabinets that didn't have much. When he opened the fridge though, there was a pleasant surprise. Horded waters and several cases of them. That's all there was in there. "Jackpot! Lots of water here." The cabinet proved to be less bountiful with only a can of ravioli that he proceeded to jar open with a knife.
"I guess him losing his wife would explain why he got so shit faced drunk and passed out on the beach. Dangerous if you ask me. We still have biters that go up and down the beaches. Sometimes in large groups." He brought out the can with a fork sticking out and a bottle of water for her also. He sat on a chair across from her just watching and allowing her to take the whole can and eat it up if she wanted. Leftovers would never go to waste here. He heard his sister, Jace and Branden coming through the stoop and through the door as he sat with Jess, only momentarily interrupted as he looked back at her. "How did you end up in Louisiana? That's pretty far from here."
As they walked into the open room, the vaulted ceilings tipped in the center of the room and the ceiling fans remained as still as the night. The walls in this one were an off white color and there were a few paintings around the walls. There was a large sectional sofa that wrapped a bit around the room. He never really paid much mind to the decor and although he wanted Jess to be comfortable, he was sure she would not be staying down here.
When Jace said Jess had been raped, her eyes went wide. She looked at the woman and then down to her belly wondering if the child was a product of the rape or if it was someone else. She blushed a little at the thought and shook it off. "Okay, got it. I won't say anything. But, truth of it all, as a woman, I always have to sleep with one eye open now. Jack protects me as best he can, but if raiders come I'm not sure how he could."
If they were outnumbered, she knew they would be in big trouble. When Jack stated they should go back inside and she agreed. The sun was rising high and without protection they could face sunburn and biters. They discovered how quickly it was to be sunburned in this new world and how weak it made them both. They had also seen the biters with burned, blistering skin sauntering down the beach and she didn't want to get to that point.
"Well, let's go in and see if we can first, sober Jace up and second find something to eat."
She saw which condo Jack went into but she waited as they spoke a bit longer about their intentions. "And we don't want to hurt you either Branden. We're just trying to keep our home safe. We've lost people here. It was a lot at first, but it's slowed down."
She moved up the dunes and hit the sidewalk that was already sagging at the corners. There was nothing they could do about that though. Nothing to fix it with and no one to fix it. At least the building was still in tact and the ocean breezes kept them cool at night. When they slipped inside the bottom apartment behind the guys, she shut the door and saw her brother sitting on a chair across from Jess. There was a bottle of water and a can of food and her brother broke his fascination with the pregnant girl to tell them about the water.
"Lots of water in the fridge. Not a lot of food," Jack said from his spot before asking Jess about her trip to Louisiana.
She moved towards the fridge and found all the bottles that were stored there. "Wow!" She leaned in and poked around for anything else, which proved to be fruitless. "There's tons in here!" She grabbed three bottles of the Aquafina water and turned back towards Jace and Branden, handing them each a bottle as Branden declared how nice the condo is.
"We normally leave the bottom floors abandoned. Keeping ourselves elevated gives us a chance. We haven't had any problems with the biters coming up the stairs and knocking on our doors or anything. Plus, if she's going to have a baby, that adds a bit more of a risk, you know?"
She came out of the kitchen, looking over the open floor plan which was almost the same as hers and Jack's place. Down the hall their surfboards were propped up against the wall. They hated carrying those things up and down the stairs and since the bottom floors were abandoned, it made for a good storage space.
Jess sat back and enjoyed the softness of the couch instead of that bike seat. She was so sick of traveling and it was gonna get to the point where she couldn't travel soon. Jessica listened to him speak about being from Beverly Hills and smiled. "I can't say that I went there much but the few times I did it seems like a nice area." She said with a smile as she watched him open the sliding glass door. A breeze of ocean air hit her face and she closed her eyes realiz how she missed her home state. "Well you need not worry about us taking your home. We have lost members of our group and we will help you protect the place."
Her eyes moved to pictures on the wall of past residents. A frown tugged at her lips and she wondered about Nicole who had been her only trusted friend and she even thought of Chris. Her attention turned back when jack returned set food on the table. "Well I'm just happy we found him alive. He is Branden's best friend and he is a good guy but he's just lost." Jess said and she looked at the food hearing her stomach rumble. She was so hungry and she gladly accepted the food he brought her.taking a sip of water she enjoyed the taste of the ravioli. "Thank you for the food Jack. We greatly appreciate it." She said as her free hand rested on her stomach for a moment.
When he asked about how she ended up in Louisiana she looked down at the now empty can of food. "Well I was traveling with my.. boyfriend here in Cali.I was captured by a biker gang and the leader did horrible things to me. I escaped and when I found Chris dead I just ran." She said in a sad voice and she finally noticed Branden in the room when he out a hand on her knee. She flinched and drew away for a moment being lost in her past.
Jace followed Jess and Branden inside the apartments building quietly. When they got inside jack had given food and water to Jess. He was talking to her and sitting across from her. The boy seemed to have a fascination with her and it may prove to end up troublesome. Branden went to sit beside Jess so he followed Jill to the kitchen. Entering the room he came in to see a nice view of Jill as she was bent over and in the fridge. He could help but sit there and stare at the view before him. He had already found himself quite smitten. With her already.
He heard Jill say wow and that was exactly how he felt for another reason. When she stood. His mind was stuck in the view when he felt a water bottle placed in his hand. Jace seemed to momentarily loose control and he dropped the bottled water. Looking up at Jill for a moment he quickly grabbed the bottle and moved to lean against a wall. 'smooth move.' he thought to himself and his eyes looked down at the floor.
"Well I don't see a point in leaving. With Jess about to have the baby I don't think travel is a option right now. We gotta get a place fortified so the child can stay safe." He said his eyes on Jill but they moved over her form before he shook himself from that gaze and walked out of the sliding glass doors. He needed to stop before they ended up kicked out by a over protective big brother. Jaces eyes stared at the view of the water while his mind wandered off.
Jill looked back at Jace as he dropped the water, thinking she just passed it to him badly. She smiled apologetically and started to bend down to pick it back up again, but he got to it first. He looked a little flustered and she had a good idea why that may be. She had just bent over in front of him and he seemed to be all man. He was probably just distracted by the view. She didn't fault him and actually, that thought made her laugh a little.
When he stepped out of the room, she looked at Jack and followed Jace as he went out to the porch, touching her brother lightly on the shoulder as if to say she appreciated him handling the pregnant girl while she took care of Jace.
When she stepped out, Jace was talking about fortifying the condos so Jess could have the baby here. So far they had been in good shape when it came to safety, but a crying baby could change everything. She had no idea how that would attract the biters, if it did at all. She had no idea if a baby could even survive in environments like this now.
"There's no way she can go back out on the road, not now. Even after the baby is born, it will be way too dangerous to go back out. I'm sure she'll be fine breast feeding for a little while, but there's only so much, you know? We need baby food and diapers and ...and..." She froze for a moment not really knowing what it would take to keep a baby alive nowadays.
"And all kinds of stuff I'm sure." She wished her mom was here. She would know what to do. But there were others, even if their numbers were dwindling down. "We usually don't stay on the bottom floors. There's a lot of space upstairs. I figured you and that Branden guy will want to stay together, right?"

A light blue pick up truck was driving on a path next to the beach , inside of that truck was Hunter a young blonde male with his cap on backwards and sunglasses on his face. He was wearing a dirty white t-shirt and military pants and boots. Next to him was a German Shepherd , her name was Khan. It had been a rough time for Hunter , he hadn't seen any living people in weeks and was starting to believe he was the last man alive. That was until he saw something that caught his eye, there was a large fire on the beach and in the distance he could make up some bikes standing and what looked like a condo. Hunter got out of the car and grabbed the bow and quiver next to him. He checked to see if his pistol holsters were secure and threw the quiver around him as to hang it around his torso.
As soon as he shot his truck off and walked out Khan jumped out of the car and started barking, she swiftly ran towards the condo and Hunter immediately ran after his dog. "WAIT KHAN! Come back girl!" Hunter didn't care if he alarmed anyone at the time , he was definately not scared of walkers anymore but if there were some people trying to harm his only companion he wouldn't back down from a fight. While running along the beach he hoped that there was no one there so he could just leave without any problems.
As his dog ran close to the porch Hunter could see that his fears had been confirmed , on the porch of the condo were several people and this made Hunter stop. Instinctively he grabbed an arrow from his quiver and notched it back aiming it at the people porch so he could divert their attention from Khan. "Look, I am not here to hurt anybody. I... I just want my dog!" Hunter was surprised at what he shouted , not so much the words but the way he did. It became clear to him that after all this time alone with Khan he couldn't bear the thought of losing her. Keeping his eyes clear on the people he waited for a reaction and prayed that they weren't hostile as he knew he would not survive a fire fight, seeing as he was out in the open and they could run inside and shoot at him from multiple places. "Please, just let me take my dog."
Jack's senses had shot from relaxed to alarmed as he sat there talking to Jess. He heard a dog bark, something he hadn't heard in a very long time. He didn't like the fact his sister had left with Jace but the fact of the matter was, they did it for the sake of the group. They needed more supplies now that the group had grown and someone had to do it.
He stood up from his chair, grabbed his spear that Jace called him 'Tarzan' for possessing, and immediately moved towards the back door where the sun was streaming in, reflecting off the bright sand. He saw the dog running towards their condo and a man following after it. He immediately made his presence known on the porch on the bottom floor and with a stern gaze with boyish eyes, he held up the spear.
The man that approached, yelling for his dog to come back, had already proved himself to be a threat as he notched an arrow back, prepared to loose on him. The man had the advantage of space with a weapon that could pierce right through his heart, depending on how of a shot he was. Jack also figured the noise from the motorcycles was what caught the attention of the man and his dog.
"Lower your arrow! You don't want to hurt anyone, then lower it down!" If this man was going to be a threat to him, then he was going to be a threat to his dog. As the pup happily approached with wagging tail, he pointed the tip of the spear down at her. He wasn't going to skewer her, unless he was forced to.
He figured Brandon would come out with his gun and he worried about Jess getting hurt.
"We have a pregnant woman in here. Lower your arrow!" The dog ran off at the immediate threat but she was probably just hungry. Maybe her and her owner shared cans of food. In Hunter's immediate view he would see him, Jess and Brandon through the open glass door. He was happy his sister wasn't here. She'd probably welcome the man with a smile, a hug and what's left of their food. She was far more generous then she should be.
The casual talk without worries of being ripped apart was nice for a change. There was a sound of barking which made her eyes move away from jack. He had his spear and was out the door before she could say a thing. Rocking in her seat she attempted to get up on her own but it was useless. "Help me up please hun." Her gaze darted to Branden and when she finally did get to her feet a hand fell on her stomach. "Oh, I'm so done with this pregnancy thing." Jess muttered as she slowly waddled her way to the door and saw a man with a bow raised.
Using her Baby weight she pushed past Jack and stood between the two. "Lower your bow Sir. No one is gonna hurt your puppy. Not around me at least." With those softer words, she whistled softly and the dog came over wagging her tail excitedly. Leaning over slightly she ran her fingers through the dog's hair. "Awe good puppy. Whats his name?" She asked unknowing the gender of the dog that she was loving on at the moment. With that, she had a cramp hit her which caused her knees to almost buckle.
"Ahh!" She exclaimed grabbing her stomach and stepping back. "Fuck me." As her breathing hitched and it became apparent the cause of her discomfort. It was then that her Water decided to break and she was stuck here with three males. "Guys not to start a panic or anything but hope someone can stay conscious enough to deliver this kid."Jess words were pained and she slowly moved back into the apartment using walls and furniture to lean on. Making her away to the bedroom took everything she could muster before she found a seat at the edge of the bed.
Shauna Kelly: That helped, thank you
