Francine stood between the family room and the dining room, looking out one of the open doors as the loud splash into the pool could be heard in the proximity of where she was standing. Actually, there was a lot of noise near where she was standing with the door open, watching the party her boys were having. She was pretty sure that was Bradley that just jumped off the balcony into the pool as she heard his voice rise from the water when he resurfaced. She shook her head and chuckled as she turned her attention back to the cellphone in hand.
“No sweetie, it’s okay. Just come over, don’t worry. He’s not coming here and he’s not invited. I don’t know why you ever gave him your phone number in the first place.” She listened to the voice on the other end explain a few things as she heard another splash after the shadow passed overhead. This time it was Bubba, proving his worth to his brothers and following the dangerous footsteps of Bradley.
“Just do me a favor on your way over. Stop at the liquor store and get two bottles of Grey Goose. Nothing’s too good for my boys you know.” She listened for a second before ending the conversation as Bryce stepped into the kitchen, towel wrapped around his waist above his swimming trunks. “Okay baby, I’ll see you in a half hour. And just relax, we’ll take care of it if it’s a problem.”
When she hit the button to end the call, she looked up at Bryce and saw that look on his face. She knew that look and without him even having to ask, she walked over to him and placed her hands on his cheeks and smiled. “Yes, we have a problem and his name is Earl. Randi gave him her number and he’s been stalking her. Maybe you and the boys should let him know why he’s being inappropriate to our little flower.”
Randi had become her new daughter in a sense. With Sally off at school, there was a void in her heart, wishing for the company of another girl in the house and Randi was that perfect solution. The boys knew her already and when she came back from college looking for a job around town, she knew to scoop her right up. She was a nice girl and an easy contrast to the wild boys that she kept close to her hip.
“Where’s Mira and Andrew? Is everything okay?”
She moved back towards the kitchen, setting the cellphone down next to the sink and opened the large fridge that was filled deep with food, drink and a few bottles of wine. The sweet, bubbly taste of a Reisling was hitting the spot tonight and she made a mental note to send Parnell a thank you note for picking out a bottle at the liquor store for her. She happened to bump into the former sommelier while shopping and with a little Crowe charm and flirtatious behavior, she worked him into picking out a bottle that was reserved only for the finest tastes…or as fine as they could get in the Bayou. She didn’t really want to go all the way to New Orleans for a new stock. She poured herself another glass and looked at Bryce who seemed to be staring out the door, almost longingly. She could see it in her son’s eyes, but he wasn’t looking at Mira, who was seated on the other side of the pool. She knew who he was looking at.
“That pretty redhead. She’s off limits Bryce, don’t you know that?”
She took a sip of her wine and chuckled again. Nothing was off limits to the Crowe boys and each one of them knew that. No matter what the price.
