Jay didn't like the idea of Odette checking the cooler. But he couldn't do it. Even standing here he was to weak. He could barely make heads or tails of anything. He leaned against a shelf and took the bag as it was handed to him. Reaching up to rub his dead eye he watched Odette step closer. Before she reached it he spoke, "just be safe okay. We don't know who or what is in there. Could be a bear even. Jus the careful okay."
He grabbed his gun, he doubt he could do much, not from where he was standing. But he wouldn't let anyone harm her either. She reached the door and he pulled himself up straight. His hand gripped the hilt of his pisto, harder and he resided for whatever had opened the door and brought the smell that made you want to drop to your knees.
As Odette went to shut it a figure broke through. It was male, young, long hair. He slammed his shoulder into Odette and was looking to run. Coming out of the cooler, falling into Odette, the man looked like a baby deer. Barely able to stand, lost, confused of what to do. Jay saw he was unarmed, besides a piece of glass.
As the young man watched him Jay raised his hands, showed open hands. He wanted the man to see he was unarmed, didn't mean no harm. He moved along the wall, over to Odette, as he crouched beside his new companion, slowly helped her stand he watched the man. Suddenly it clicked who he was. He was Maron, her brother. His hair was longer. He was skinnier. He didn't have the facial hair then, nor the black eyes. But it was him, older, malnurished, looking like he's been through hell.
"Maron stay calm, it's Jay, the sheriff. Odette, your sister. We aren't going to hurt you, it's okay. Just relax."
