As the night wore on everyone in the house found themselves getting comfortable and resting. The guard shift alternated through the night making sure the inhabitants of the house stays safe. Jace Had the last watch shift in which had him sitting on the edge of the roof when the sun came up. The bayou was peaceful and he saw no walkers around the surrounding area. Carefully he stood on the roof and moved to the ladder her used to make his way up to his watch post. The sound of songbirds chirping was a nice addition to the spring morning.
When his feet hit the ground Jace moved into the house. He went up the stairs knocking on the doors loud enough for people to hear. "Rise and shine people. We got stuff to do today. Places to go supplies to gather come on move people." He said loudly as he moved down the stairs. Once in the living room he stood in the middle moving the coffee table out of the way. "Come on sleepy heads wake up we gotta get going. Daylights burning."
He said with a loud chipper tone. He was ready to get everyone coordinated and head to get these weapons. Some of them needed to go and help the other house fortify the defenses. He hadn't forgotten his offering to help them and he was a man of his word even if he weren't gonna be the one to stay behind. Branden could stay behind and help since he would good with construction work.

After Branden, Jace and Nicole sat down to have a chat in the living room and it got real late, the three went to each their own. Walking up the stairs to find his girlfriend, Branden found her alone and crying in one of the bedrooms. She tried to hide her emotions from him, though he could tell something was troubling her. When he asked what was up, she simply ignored it by saying she was tired. Uncertain what to say and do, he let it slide and took the opportunity to kiss and hug her. Together they went to bed and in a spoon position; he took his strong arms around her before they both fell asleep in the very same room. During the middle of the night he got up to relieve the one on guard, staying look-out on the rooftop for two hours or so.
When he returned downstairs he met Jess in the hallway, who by the look of it tried to sneak off without anybody`s notice. The two exchanged words and he was able to convince her to stay the night, despite how weary about the situation she was. She mentioned to him that she had spoken to his girlfriend Stormyr and that he should keep a close eye on her, as if she knew something he didn`t. He nodded and they both went back to each their own rooms. Troubled by those very words he got problems sleeping and throughout most of the night he wriggled and turned, opening and shutting the eyes from time to time.
Come morning he found himself tired and he was awake when Jace started banging on the doors, trying to get people out of bed. Branden sat up and looked over his girlfriend with a smile, seeing that she was asleep. He kissed her on the cheek, and then went out the room to join his best friend who was standing in the living room, ready to get things moving. “Mornin.” Brandens said and scratched the back of his neck, yawning. “What`s up?” He asked.

Charles had returned late that night, as he had gone out to look for his missing sister. He had traced his way back to gas station, from where he followed fresh tracks that he believed could have belonged to her. When it started raining and he got weary of getting nowhere, he gave up and decided to continue the next day. As he got back to the farm house he found out that most had gone to bed, except for Nicole who was standing guard on the roof. She told him that Skylar had locked herself in a room after he left and that she hadn`t opened the door since, it instantly made him feel guilty for not being there when she needed him and with a gesture of appreciation to Nicole he hurried inside. By the time he came to the second floor he didn`t know exactly which room Skylar was in, though by carefully checking each door he figured which one was locked.
Gently he knocked and said it was he, telling her to open. He had no idea if she would, but after a few minutes waiting outside her room she let him in. They quickly caught up about what had happened and by hearing what Ricardo and the Mexicans had said to her, he got frustrated and angry. He wanted to do something about it right away, though was held back not too. Skylar kissed him and in another moment of heated passion the two forgot the troubles by sleeping together, enjoying their time to the fullest.
After a few hours of sleep they woke up by Jace knocking on the door, who yelled for them all to get up. Charles couldn`t believe it, why on earth did he have to do this so early? He thought and looked to Skylar. “Good morning.” He said with a smile and softly kissed her on the lips with his arm behind her head. “How you feelin? Better now?” He asked curious and pressed himself closer, both being completely naked as they were. “Seems like Jace wants us to get up.” Charles added, reluctant to get up.
A soft buzz was heard. Barely at the edge of hearing.
Her breathing was soft, but audible.
It was always hot.
Pain like fire. Burning.
Smoke choked her soft breaths. Like hands around her throat.
The buzz grew louder. Louder, faster. Suddenly it was like a freight train stuck inside her head.
-----------------------
Nicole's eyes opened quickly, wildly alert. It took her a minute to realize she was at the other house. She quickly sat up and surveyed her surroundings. She was near the corner in the living room, where she opted to sleep despite protests.
She heard Jace's voice calling for a wake up. Her brow had a small line of sweat across her, matting some of her hair to her head. Water would help her dry throat. Since she mentioned the prospect of going back to Polk, her mind focused on one thing.
Stop. Focus. Get your shit right and you can come out like a hero here.
Jace was in the room with her, still trying to wake everyone.
A hero like there, right Sar'nt?
Her mind raced as she thought of him. It was his voice in her head there and she clenched her jaw tightly. "Morning," she said quickly. Standing up fairly quickly, she checked over her equipment to see it still there. "What's our timeline looking like?" Her voice resembled that of someone who literally just woke up, which made her clear her throat.
The previous night had been nice. Speaking to Jace and Branden was a welcomed change of pace, and keeping her mind on a task right now was better than living inside her own head. "We should try and move as soon as we can. It could be a long trip depending on how clear the routes are."
After locking the door Skylar Carried walker to the bed grabbing a diaper out of the bag of baby supplies she got him in a clean one. After he was fed and cared for she set him in the basket he was sleeping in before. After motherly duties were over she found herself in the bed as the night went quiet. The full weight of the things Ric said to her heavy on her mind. His cold words stuck in her head on repeat. Tears welled up in her eyes as she laid down and held the pillow.
What made her feel worse was what she said to him in return. She told him she wished she had left him in that car and it wasn’t the case. Skylar had been so hurt and angry over the words he spoke to her that she just wanted him to feel that same pain. Maybe it was harsh but he was being an ass and she didn’t let anyone treat her like so. Lying under the blankets she finally drifted off to sleep until a knock came on the door. Charles was there wanting to be let in.
She finally let in In the room and talked about what was said to her. The next bit of time was shared intimately and they both fell asleep. Her eyes groggily opened when Jace knocked on the door telling people to wake up. She looked up at Charles you was awake and speaking to her. A smile crossed her lips after he kissed her. “Morning.” She said in a sleepy voice and yawned. “Yeah I feel better now. “ She said looking up at him and cuddled closer to his body.
“ I don’t what you to go.” She said with a smirk as she let her lips meet his. Her hands tracing up his chest she let her lips part from his only to kiss down his neck then back up again. Her next move she rolled over and wrapped in the blankets like a burrito. “But if you have to wake up.” She said with a yawn and a giggle.
After talking to the blonde girl that night jess found herself alone in the attic of the house. Bumping into the boyfriend of the blonde girl she did warn him to keep an eye out on the girl. She could see that it affected the girl in a bad way. After the house got quiet she got past all those asleep and slipped out the back door of the house. She felt trapped being around all these people and she still really didn’t trust anyone. Taking her chances she cut through the woods and ended up back at the service station where her car was.
Sitting in the driver’s seat she started the engine and drove the car back to the house she had stayed the night in. Once she parked in front of the house she walked around to the trunk and opened it. She had a box of assorted canned goods, two boxes of MRE’s and a case and a half of bottled water. Grabbing a box of MRE’s she walked towards the house and entered the front door to see the guy Jace from the day before. There was a Asian woman and the guy who was the blondes boyfriend.
Sitting the box on the table she looked at the three standing there. “There is another box of MRE’s , a box of assorted canned goods and like a case and a half of bottled waters. Stolen from my captors when I escaped.” She said to the group with a nervous tone. She knew it was better to be in a group then alone these days she just wasn’t sure if she should trust them or not.
Jace was standing the middle of the living room waiting on people to wake up. Looking towards the kitchen he debated on going to get a pot and spoon to make enough noise that it would surely have them awake. He was in full leader mode today and people needed to be up and ready to fall in line. They had a lot to accomplish today to prepare for a trip to a safer haven. He already knew where they were headed to set up a community but they needed these supplies to do it.
Nicole was the first he saw awake. She jumped up rather quickly which made him smile. “Now that’s what I’m talking about maybe if these other people would move with a sense of purpose.” He thought to himself as he listened to her speak. “Well its just now Daybreak. We need to get everything planned out. Decide who is going on the trip and who is staying.” He said to her and his eyes shifted when Branden walked into the room.
“Sorry for the early morning wake up call but we got to get everything planned so we can get to the fort and back as fast as we can.” He Said to Branden with a firm voice. Just as he was gonna start speaking again another voice rang in her ears. It was the girl from yesterday bringing in a box of Food. “Well thank you ma’am that’s greatly appreciated. Branden go grab boxes out of her car everyone needs a good meal before we head out. Going to be a long trip and we will need strength for this.” Jace said with a smile towards the girl.

Skylar cuddled up close and told him she was doing a lot better now, which was good, it was the way he wanted it. By now much of what had happened was in the past, and what mattered was the two of them and the love they shared. As Jace continued to make a helluva lot noise to wake everybody up in the house, she asked Charles if he really had to go. He wanted to say no, but knew he couldn`t. It only got worse resisting the urge to stay when she kissed him again and began to make her way down his neck, caressing his lean built body. Suddenly she withdrew and rolled over, wrapping herself into burrito saying that if he had too, then that was it. The way she wriggled and turned giggling made him smile and he felt the need to go after her, yet ended on deciding to stand up.
“I`m sorry hun, we`ll continue later.” He spoke and grabbed his clothes that laid scattered about, taking on one piece at a time. “You might want to get up yourself, Jace might need you too.” Charles suggested looking her over, loving the view from where he stood. “We can`t stay inside here forever, even though I`d like too. Once I hear what Jace wants, I`ll go and look for my sister again. I need to pick up from where I left last night, it got near impossible when it started raining. I`m just hoping I`m not to late.” He confirmed, stating why he had been gone so long and what his true intention for today was.
After slipping on his shirt right in front of her, revealing his six-pack, he took on the vest and gave her a wink. He then left the room and entered the hallway on the second floor, from where he could hear a lot of chatter going on downstairs. By time he stepped down into the living room Branden walked off to get the supplies from Jessie`s car. “Whats all of this about Jace? Why wake us this early?” He asked rather serious, still feeling tired due to lack of sleep.

Branden heard what was spoken the moment he walked into the living room, though he asked anyway what was up. When he got his answer from Jace it became clear what was on the agenda for the day, he wanted them to venture to Fort Polk and be back before nightfall if they could. It was an ambitious plan, but if anyone could make it, then it was he. Before Branden could say anything else the woman from last night entered the house carrying canned goods, laying it out on the table, willing to share with them all, saying it was more in the car outside. Jace gave Branden a look and told him to go get it, and with a simply nod he did just that. He wasn`t going to question the orders giving by his president and bestfriend, cause he had proven time and time again he knew how to handle things.
Once he reached the car he easy found the things he was looking for, the doors was unlocked and therefore easy to access. There was a box of canned goods, another box of MRE`s and a case and a half of bottled water. He stacked them up on each other and lifted it up with his back, moving it inside without too much trouble, placing it on the table along with the rest. He then went back out to close the car doors, though found a few guns in the backseat, which he also took with him. After that was done, he joined the others, seeing that Charles had chosen to be part of their planning. “All done, nothing more in the car.” Branden said firm to Jace and waited.
Nicole squatted next to her pack and removed a tan t-shirt from the front pouch. She removed her current shirt and quickly rolled it up before placing it in the same compartment she removed the other shirt from. It didn't bother her to do a quick shirt change in front of strangers. Besides, the only thing exposed was her sports bra and some scarring on her left shoulder blade when she had been peppered with shrapnel.
And the ID tags with 'Mark Upton' tattooed on her arm.
The latter she pushed out of her mind.
"We are going up to Polk. Fort Polk. I have some ideas to get us up-armored trucks. Dead proof. Need people to get up there so we can nab a few, grab some weapons to mount on them and ammo."
She didn't want to answer for Jace, but it was her idea and she knew more about it. Afterall, she had been stationed there before this went down.
Too long too.
Nicole had been stationed there almost four years. A year longer than she was supposed to be, but occurrences like that were all too common in that place.
"Jace, that reminds me... It's gonna be maybe a six or so hour drive, depending on traffic. It will take maybe three or so hours there to gather what we need and then the trek back. We might be gone two days." She stood and addressed Jace directly. "Just making sure the home guard knows that."
Besides, she had another stop to make while there. Not just for the trucks, the ammo, the guns and food. She left a lot of personal items behind and she wanted to reclaim a few if possible. That was something they didn't need to know though.
"Are you coming?" she asked looking to Charles. "Better yet, who is definitely going to help?" she asked glancing back to Jace.
As Branden walked out to get the stuff out of jess’s car Charles joined them in the living room asking why he woke everyone up so early. “After the drama fest we had last night. Its time to be adults and get this thing organized so we can get going.” He said to Charles in a firm but flat tone. There was already a lot of tension between them and it was going to get worse in the future he would tell. “Its already early morning and its not getting any earlier. The girl here brought in some food and water that she had stocked up. Everyone needs to get something to eat. It’s going to be a busy next few days.”
His eyes shifted to Branden who had brought the rest of the supplies in. They would have to do inventory on what was left after everyone ate something. Looking around the room his eyes stopped when he got to Nicole stripping off her shirt. His eyes traced down her figure and he found himself un able to see anything around him. He could see scaring on her left shoulder which made him curios as to the cause of it. After a few moments he realized Nicole was speaking to him and he shook out of his daze. “Yeah..erhm.. let the home guard know. Got it.”
He said with a smile and turned his attention elsewhere. Jace heard Nicole asking if Charles was going with them to help. “I don’t think he it going. I think ric planned to go and I can't have them be idiots and try to kill each other on a trip. I want to get in and out of there as fast as possible.” He said with a glance from Charles then to Nicole. “So far it’s going to be me, you and Ric. Branden you’re going to go next door and offer help with their defenses. Fortify the fence so they are a little better protected. In the future id like them to be an alliance should we need it.”
Standing on the opposite side of the coffee table Jess watched the large biker guy walk outside. Her attention turned back to Jace and The Asian woman she had yet to meet. It was weird being around all these people. She didn’t know anyone and she was nervous to be around them. Her eyes got wide when the blonde man who knocked her out came into the room and she took a few steps back Her eyes glancing around for some sort of weapon to defend herself.
As she was backing she almost bumped into the guy bringing in the rest of the supplies. “S..Sorry. My bad.” She said quietly and moved out of the way. Her attention was caught seeing the the guns hanging by straps over the mans shoulder. Particularly the Shotgun with the worn out leather strap. That was Chris’s gun that he had gotten from his grandfather. She hadn’t touched the weapon in the back nor his clothing or other things. It was too painful to even think of doing.
She felt the tears well up in her eyes and she looked around the room to see chris standing in the kitchen. She closed her eyes only to open them again and see his face rotten as a walker. The tears started to fall and she pushed past the big biker guy only sounds of sobs escaping. Making her way upstairs and into the attic where she found a corner to crumble into.
The noise of loud knocks and Jace shouting to wake everybody up was more than an alarm.Ric open his eyes lost as to where he was laying in a bed in one of the rooms in the farm house only to see the blonde girl on the side of him naked barely covered by the sheet. He sat up in the bed quick trying to retrack what had happened lastnight and thought to himself that he and the woman slept with each other. He then shook the woman "Yo.....yo wake up." He was hoping that he had not slept with her because it could be a whole lot of shit coming from this crap.If Sky was to know this it surely will hurt her but why should he care, she sleep with who she wants even if she knew it will hurt him.He wonder what was this girl real agenda though,he felt like a pawn in her game of chess.
Laying in the blanket like a burrito she had hoped Charlie would elect to stay in bed. Even if just for a little longer everything would be perfect. Alas he got up and started getting dress. A frown that was more of a pout came onto her face as she sat up. He told her she should get up as well which she decided was the best option Though she stopped to watch as he pulled his shirt over his head admiring the view.
He winked at her and was gone out of the room. Walker hadn’t quiet woken up since his last feeding time so skylar took the time to pull her clothes on and run a brush through her hair. Pulling it into a sloppy bun she left the room to go find storm. They had a lot of catching up to do and they had time to do that today. She knew at some point she had to go talk to Damon and tell him that she was leaving the bayou. That wasn’t something she was looking forward to.
Moving down the hall to the room she though Branden and Storm stayed in she knocked then opened the door. “Storm I thought…” She said as the door swung open to a unexpected site. There was Ric in bed with the girl she hated the most on the planet. Paige just smirked seeing her and had her hand on his chest. she felt the urge to jump onto the bed and start beating her ass but she just kept quiet and left the room quickly. Returning to the room were walker was sleeping she sat on the edge of the bed for a moment trying to erase the image of what she just saw from her brain.
The night wore down once everyone split up into their own little groups. Jace branden and the asain girl stayed down stairs for a while. Paige found herself in the room with Ric. Playing with his hurt emotions she was able to convince him to jump into bed with her. The night turned into a thing of lust and intimacy. Eventually the two people fell asleep still unclothed. Paige slept peacefully without a worry in the world. Everything going as planned for her and Ric just made it to easy.
The sounds of pounding on the door rang in Paige’s ears. She could hear Jace’s voice but she chose to ignore it. It wasn’t til she felt a hand on her shoulder shaking her. Rics voice telling her to wake up she stretched and opened her eyes looking at him with a smile on her face. “Whats the rush babe? I’m sure its just them planning for the trip to the fort. Relax.” She said with a smirk forming. Sitting up she scooted closer to him and kissed and line across his shoulder.
Before she could say anything else the door opened and sky stood there with a priceless expression on her face. Paige wished she had a camera just to capture this. The smirk on her lips got bigger as Sky left the room in a hurry. This was definitely working out perfect by her plans. Maybe not for Whatever ric had planned in the future but that really wasn’t to much her concern.

After asking the question as to why they had been woken up so early, Nicole abruptly answered before Jace, saying that they were going to Fort Polk to get some supplies. Jace then continued by adding in a firm flat tone that it was time for them all to start acting like adults, as if he was annoyed at Charles`s behavior yesterday for storming off after Susan. It was aggravating to hear him say that, like he had no reason for going after his missing sister? Fuck that, and fuck Jace`s attitude! He thought to himself, though remained quiet as he listened to what else he had to say about the food the girl brought in, agreeing with that they should get something to eat before moving on.
Surveying the room, Charles noticed how nervous Jess was with him being there and he could tell he scared her. He didn`t really know what her issue was or what she had been through, though by the look if it, it didn`t look good. She was scarred and bruised, not just because of the whack to the head he had given her earlier, but due to something else, something a whole lot worse. Tracing his eyes from her and over to Nicole, he found her standing there amongst them changing clothes, revealing most of her upper body naked for them to see.
She was telling Jace it might take a bit longer than one day to get there and back, and in response he began to fumble in his own words, distracted by her beautiful body. Charles couldn`t help but to smile at the sight, finding it amusing she had almost made Jace speechless. He folded his arms and glanced between the two, and then stared at Branden who just walked in, nearly clashing with Jess who was rearing back. Nicole then asked if Charles was coming with them on their trip, yet before he could answer that, Jace said no, stating that if Ricardo was going then he wasn`t. There had been enough drama and there was no way he was going to have some happen on the road.
Charles tried to get a word in as Jace rambled on about who was staying and who wasn`t, only after he was finished and the girl known as Jess ran off upstairs did he get the chance to speak. “Ahem, I think I can speak for myself, thank you…” He uttered harsh, glaring at Jace. “If you don`t want me to come along, then I won`t, it wasn`t my intention anyway, I have to find Susan, apparently I`m the only one here who still care for her.” He said, taking shots at the self-pro-claimed leader. “I might go on a run or something later while you are gone, to get you what else you need, I doubt you`ll survive barely on guns and ammo.”

On the way in Branden almost bounced into Jess who accidently blocked the path, he couldn`t see her cause of the box`s blocking his view, but he heard her say sorry and he felt how she stepped aside. Once he passed her, he glanced at her with a frown and placed the stash on the table nearby, turning to Jace who then suggested for him to stay behind; such that he could help the others out to build things if necessary. “Sure thing, I can do that.” He replied politely, though got rather shocked when he saw Jess storm off upstairs crying, not knowing it was his fault for bringing in the guns. “What`s up with her?” He asked everybody in the room and got concerned for the girl, hoping she would be alright.
Nobody had the chance to act or answer what happened when Charles suddenly spoke up to Jace, saying he wasn`t pleased about being told what to do, and that he would most likely do what he could if necessary. Branden didn`t know how close Jace was to this Susan, though he knew his friend wouldn`t take those words from Charles very well. With the intention of calming the situation down, he interrupted. “Oookay, well…we all do what we must, I say let that be it.” He paused, hoping it wouldn`t escalate. “Storm will be staying here with me, and I take it Skylar will too?” Branden continued stating the obvious.
“You sure you`re gonna have enough to go with you?” He asked Jace humbly; curious as to whom else he intended to go, thinking that maybe Paige would be a good fit, even though they hated each other. “What about the Mexicans? Anyone seen them lately? Think they might want to join?” He questioned further.
It was clear, the tension that filled the air. Nicole once more squatted down near her gear as her hand fished out her 9mm and tucked it into the waistband of her pants in the small of her back. She had thoroughly decided she didn't like Charles. Between his scuffle with Arden, who she also had no love for, the altercation with Ric, his current attitude towards Jace, coupled with the fact the girl who just left the room seemed to have a severe negative reaction to Charles painted all she needed to know about him. He caused trouble.
"We don't need him. If he wants to look for whoever he is looking for, let him. The less trouble we have on the way out there, the less likely trouble will follow." Her lips pressed into a thin line but her eyes locked on Charles. "We ought to eat and get ready to move. I'd like for more to come so we can bring back more trucks but if it means less baggage, we will make do."
Nicole turned her head to Jace but kept her eyes on Charles. She had no idea what these people had been through. She wasn't trying to judge any of them, but she did know problem makers when she saw them and there were already a few that stood out. But he was one quick to anger, seemed to let emotion dictate his actions and didn't play well with others. Her right hand made its way behind her back as she brought her thumb over the hammer of the pistol.
"Regardless of who might go, we really better start moving. Priority should be securing those trucks so we can move the baby somewhere safer with a vehicle that can stop small arms and the dead alike." As she spoke, she still focused her eyes on Charles but kept her head pointed to Jace. While she spoke, she also pulled the hammer back into a locked position and gripped the firearm. "What do you think, Jace?" she asked as her eyes drifted over towards him finally.
Jace let his eyes shift around the room. They landed on the girl him and Charles had found the night before. She didn’t stay long in the room between Charles presence and something obviously upset her and she left in a hurry. His eyes cut back to Charles hearing him speak in a harsh tone stating that he could speak for himself and didn’t need anyone to do it for him. His next words hit Jace like a punch in the face Shots fired in the form of words to him.
A serious look was now on his face staring Charles straight in the eyes. He knew good a damn well that Jace cared about his sister. He wasn’t trying to get lost in that because he needed to focus on getting the living members of the group to a safe place. Living.. That word cut him to even think that Susan could be dead. Jace could hear Branden speak up followed by Nicole but his eyes never left Charles. The tension in the air could be cut with a knife.
The last question Nicole asked Jace what he thought which the only thing he heard really. “What do I think?” He said in a cold tone glancing once to Branden then back to Charles. His next move was closing the space between him and Charles His Right fist connecting hard on the left side of Charles jaw. With that he felt so much better and he backed off a few steps. His eyes staying on Charles he stood just a few feet away. “I think That we should get moving in the next half an hour. Got it?” he said to Nicole and Branden but keeping his cold gaze on Charles.
His eyes left Charles for a moment as he looked and grabbed two MRE’s off the top of one of the boxes. “Eat and do what you got to do today. Take one of these to Skylar before you go.” He said in a cold tone extending his hands to give the meals to Charles. He really had no interest in a further fight but he would gladly oblige if needed.
Nicole knew it was coming. The tone Jace had, the tension in the room. As Jace closed the gap, Nicole pulled the pistol from her waistband but kept it behind her back. When Jace struck Charles, the weapon was by her side. When Jace walked away from Charles, she held the pistol at the low ready, towards Charles. Her face was expressionless, but her eyes told a different story.
She knew battlelines were no doubt being drawn, but she made it absolutely clear who she was backing.
