They sat in the car waiting. She told him it seemed like Charles was coming, rushing upstairs, she assumed, to grab a shirt and a weapon, but when he didn't come down, Arden honked the horn a few times. She looked out the window and saw Jace waiting on Hannah's motorcycle. They were wasting gas and time.
"Let's just go. Maybe new momma up there convinced him to snuggle up with her and the baby."
She remembered the noises from the night before and although she never saw who went into the room with Sky, she sure saw it that morning when she came out. It was none of her business though. She didn't know the connections between Sky, Charles, Damon and Ric. She could only assume the coupling was a natural occurrence.
Charles rolled off and they hit the road. If Charles looked out the window, he would see which way they were going.
It didn't take long to get to the junkyard but once they did, it was like being at her second home again. She saw the familiar barbed wire fence that ran along the road that was getting overgrown with weeds. The grass had grown tall and a few rats ran across the road from the grass as they reached the large sign with faded paint and letters on it.
"Just pull in the front. There's a trailer with blue railing. Park in front of that."
As Arden rolled into the front of the junk yard, the front gate had rusted and fallen to the ground. Maybe they could find a hood to replace the one on the truck they were in. It ran rough, but nothing that couldn't be tuned up with a few spark plugs and oil change. It was usable, which was surprising after the attack from the tank.
She had her knife ready just in case any walkers decided to make a sudden attack on them and she was certain the truck pulling in would have caught their attention by now. She knew exactly where to go to get the tools and gloves but she wanted to make sure she was prepared and not just simply focused on what she came to get. It wasn't like that anymore.
When Arden rolled to a stop, she stayed in her seat and looked out the window, down one of the aisles of stacked cars. She saw something stirring and was already prepared to take out what she needed, despite the fact the others were here.
