Cade sat in bed. It had been five days since Acer attacked, just under a weak. Walkers had surrounded the hotel, the occupants dealing with them slowly. It was all they could do, after many of the strong shooters dispersed. They were down numbers, supplies, and guns. They would need another plan to deal with the walkers.
Cade was ordered to rest, to heal. He wasn't supposed to be out of bed, at least a week. Though now conscious he felt he was weak. He couldn't move without pain or risk of tearing his stitches. He had spent most of his time staring at the ceiling, helping with organizing the best he could with out actually being there.
Besudes that he had spent time with Collette. Though not much was said, he was cold to her. He didn't know what had happened, happened with Acer and her. He knew Acer was dead and his men either dead or have fled. He regretted what he said to her, that he would loose her respect if she did as Acer asked. But it was true.
He groaned as he sat up, looking out the window. He wanted to hunt down Acer's men. He would not stop unless all of them were dead. They would die, and he would make them beg for mercy.
Colette rounded the door way and shook her head, seeing Cade sitting up," oh no you don't! Don't even think of getting out of that bed." She leaned against the door frame, staring at him. She hadn't said much to him in the last few days. She brought him his meals and sat with him, a heavy silence hanging between them.
Colette was doing her best to keep the small group alive. She didn't have anyone she could truly send as runners to track Acer's stragglers. They needed to be exterminated like the rats they were. She wanted lots of things, but the fight had cost them, most of her original group had been killed or injured. Angel and Des both gone, James could have been useful in helping to shore up their defensives. She wouldn't let herself think more on it than that. She couldn't afford to be weak and emotional. This was exactly why she hadn't talked much to Cade.
Slowly she crossed the floor and sat down on his bed." Swore? You need something for pain?" Her eyes scanned his face, reading him." We are gonna have to move, find a new place to house our group. Someplace more defendable."
Outside of the hotel in the back, Tanya was working out. Jogging around, doing one hand push ups. As her body ached, she pushed herself. Her weapons were laying in around the court yard where she can reach them incase something was to go down. But slowly, her healing wound began to go from an ache to a sharp pain. Tanya was told that she needed to be in bed to recover. But since their was barely enough people to guard the hotel. On the fifth day of her recovery, she pushed herself off the bed. A couple of days prior, the Combat Medic Victor Crowley told Colette and then Tanya that he will return. He was going to scout around to find the remaining survivors of the hotel a place they can bunker down in. The young Russian lady, on her first day of recovery, she had received a letter that was waiting for her on her bed stand. It was a message from Lily.
What was written on it angered her, made her depressed. But it drove her to keep pushing on. To let it fuel her to strengthen herself, even at the cost of reopening her wounds. Sitting down, she reached her hand into a Bush and retrieved her AK-74U. Breathing heavily, she looked down to hee bandages since she had her work out clothing on. Sweat pants, work out bra and sneakers she found in one of the now empty rooms. They lost many in the battle, but a good amount had left. One of them was Remy. The last person she thought who wouldn't leave them in the state they are in now. Shaking her head, she couldn't blame anyone. The feeling of being watched was felt as Tanya said out loud. "Yes?"
"You expect me to just sit here. I'm needed, who do you really have left," Cade asked her after she scolded him, "is anyone even still around, or did they cut ties? I need to be out there, up an moving. On watch or tracking down Acer's rats."
He groaned again as he shifted in bed. "But I need to heal, I know that. Just don't let the place fall apart." He looked away from her, not meeting her eyes. She wasn't telling him something, none of them were. She had been one of the only few to visit, besides Claytons odd pop in or a check in from a doc. She was hiding something from him, he knew it.
"I can handle the pain. Though a drink would be nice, smoke thing strong. Or is the liquor already all drank up. I can smell it in your breath. I assume everyone is having their fair shares." He looked away again, "you're right about a new place. I can here the growls from the street outside. We are surrounded by them aren't we? The dead. And if I can't even get out of bed, how am I to travel to this new place."
He looked her up and down. "Where are we going anyway? There's the university, has large walls. Or the prison."
Anthony awoke with a start. Another nightmare. More images of...everything. Remy's departure. Clayton killing Jackson. Leigh's panic as she worked on Arcade. All the bodies. And it went further back. He had these nightmares all the time. Of Adolphus killing Lily Jeroe, and burning down Bear Lake. Of Randall's blood spraying all over Anthony's face in Colorado. Of that kid Dexter blowing Grant away before being gunned down by Dallas and Luca. Of Vivian singing Van Morrison as Anthony bled out from Jeff's wounds.
He had nightmares about all of it. But that didn't matter. It was another day, though things felt differently now that Luca and Remy were gone, and so many others were dead. The only people Anthony felt like he truly knew were Aron and Clayton, and Andrei to a lesser extent. What was he doing here? He felt like he had no business here anymore. Now that Remy had gone to find her family.
Her family. It was only then that Anthony remembered the promise he made to Grant--to find his brother...what had been his name? Harley? No, Hunter. Hunter Chase. Grant had said the man was in Miami. The thought also made Anthony think of Candy's group back in Miami--the nightclub group. They were all in Miami.
Anthony had no business here anymore. He didn't know many of these people. Maybe it was time to fulfill his promise to Grant.
Simon woke up when the sun came up, got a nice shower in after they had been running the generator for the past five days. He knew it was getting low on fuel, but he didn't care. They weren't staying much longer anyways. He got dressed and went into Luca's room, waking him up. "Hey, get up. We have to go. Get a hot shower while you can."
He managed to find Luca some clothes in a closet downstairs and although the shirt may be a little big, the jeans looked like they would fit him. All his other clothes were bloody so a clean set would probably be a welcomed reprieve.
When he was all set, he grabbed as much as he could in a backpack, including what weapons he could find and the food in Remy's cabinets that he carry.
He went downstairs and when Luca was finally ready, they would head out and head back towards the hotel that Luca wanted to visit. He wanted to check on those people and make sure Remy was really gone. The road was a short one back to Monteleone and this way, he could also say he was making good on his promise to bring Luca back..even if it wasn't for very long.
Luca rolled out of bed and showered. Simon had found him a set of clothes, for which he was thankful, and the men packed as much as they could. Luca still couldn't carry too much due to his leg, but he helped as much as he could. Thankfully the walk to the hotel wasn't too long, and Luca would have sprinted if he could have. He needed to see Remy. She had to have been there, and Simon had to have been lying.
Despite the pain, Luca sped up as the hotel came into view. "Hey! Hey! It's me, Luca. Me and Simon, we're back...anyone there?"
Clayton had been up for a while, doing his best to cope with the changed situation. Many were dead, and the group was rattled from Acer's attack. Strangely, all of that bothered him more than the memory of killing Jackson. In the heat of the moment, when it's you or the other guy...Clayton discovered he did, indeed, have it in him to take another's life. And he didn't mind. It had kept him alive, after all.
Already on his third cup of coffee, Clayton heard the shouting outside, and immediately recognized the voice. Luca, the cop. Clayton had suspected he and Simon had vanished during the fight, never to return. He hadn't seen their bodies, leading him to believe they weren't dead, and he was right. Clayton hesitated for a moment. Would Colette want them back? Arcade? The men hadn't done anything wrong, but they'd likely have to answer for their absence. But if they were coming back into the fold, Clayton wouldn't turn them away.
He opened the door and called out. "Glad you're still alive. Come on, then..."

After the attack, Candy did not dare come back out of Dallas' room until the next morning. By the time she did, it was late that morning, and she found Lily and June were already gone. Lily had frightened her, but June had made sure she stayed safe through all that chaos. She would have went straight back up to her room, but hunger and thirst were what had drawn her out in the first place.
She scavenged some bottles of water and food, granola bars, and disappeared back up into her room. Candy carried Flopsy and James around with her almost everywhere she went those next couple days. Slowly, she had decorated the old toolbox with hearts in permanent marker to go with the smiley face she had already given it. Most of everywhere she was though was still up in her room, except for the couple hours she might be seen wandering around updating her inventory notes.
The little girl barely said a word to anyone, though she might be heard talking to her rabbit or her new toolbox now and then. On the morning of the fifth day after the attack, she wandered back down to the bar for more water and whatever food she could find. James and Flopsy were in tow as usual.
"Hey, whoa, not so loud." When Luca shouted out it caught the attention of a couple of walkers that were still straggling around the complex. He knew a crowd of them gathered as he saw them shuffling towards the hotel during the gunfire. He wouldn't be surprised if this place was completely overrun and had to be abandoned completely because of walkers. He used a knife to take out two that were at the wall and turned towards him and Luca, leaving them in a heap on the sidewalk.
Thankfully it didn't take long for Clayton to open the door and escort them inside. Once the heavy door was shut, he looked around. He didn't have to be a psychic to know the toll that had come to these people. There were losses here and he could see it in Clayton's face.
He slid the knife back into the holster at his side and looked at Luca before turning back to Clayton.
"Just back to check on you guys before heading back out. Luca wants to find Remy. She here?"
Luca turned briefly to make sure Simon could handle the walkers on his own--when Luca was sure he could, he turned back and made his way to the newly-opened door. One of the men who'd been here since the start, Clayton, opened it and greeted them, noting that he was glad to see them alive. "Oh thank god, you're here," Luca nodded curtly and made his way past Clayton, only to bump into Anthony as he made his way around the lobby.
"Anthony, Anthony. Glad you're in one piece..."
"Where...what--Luca, shit. I'm glad you're okay. Where were--"
"No time, where's Remy?" Luca was heavily favoring his good leg, having made his way over here so quickly had done his gunshot wound no favors.
"Remy? Oh...well...she..." Anthony trailed off, obviously hiding something, or at least feeling awkward. "She's gone, Luca...she said she went to see her family? I...I thought she may have told...I don't know. I'm sorry, Luca..."
Luca shook his head. No, no. No! He ran past Anthony and up the stairs to the room he and Remy had shared while staying here. It didn't make any sense for Remy to still be in bed but...maybe.
The room was empty. Someone had even made the bed, and there wasn't even a trace that Luca and Remy had even been here. "Remy!" He called out in desperation. Nothing. "Fuck, fuck fuck," Luca whispered to himself as he checked the bathroom--the shower, the bathtub...the closet. She was nowhere.
Simon had been right. Anthony, too. Remy had left. She left him. Luca's sadness quickly turned to rage as he grabbed the bedside lamp and hauled it across the room, causing the bulb to burst and the lampshade to rip. "Fuck! Fuck!" Luca grabbed the nightstand, too, and hurled in to the side, the drawer falling out and sending its contents all over the floor. The framed picture on the wall was next, with Luca taking it and throwing it through the closed window, shattering the glass. Finally depleted of energy, Luca sat down on the bed, the sound of walkers outside now easier to hear due to the broken window. That was stupid, breaking it. Nothing to be done now, though.
It was only then that Luca looked down on the floor to see...his badge? And Remy's ring, along with a piece of paper. They were inside the nightstand but found themselves on the floor after Luca tossed it over.
Dear Luca,
I don't know if you'll get this note, but in my heart, I'm hoping there's some small chance you'll come back and see it. Me and Arden left to head to the Bayou to find my family. You know that's what I wanted to do when I came here and I wanted you to go with me, but it seems you had other plans. We'll be in the Bayou Guillaume in Dulac, about an hour south of here. The house is off Caillou Road, between the river and the swamp. I don't even know if you'll find us or if you want to, but that's where I'll be.
I don't want to leave. I want to wait for you but it seems Simon wanted you back with him. I hope that you and him aren't what you told me you used to be. You need to know that I trusted you. You need to know you're the one person I felt I could open up to and you're the one person that I let hurt me. I don't know why you left and I don't know where you went but you now know where I'll be.
I left the ring and your badge. Take them if you want, but I couldn't bare to look at either of them as I wrote this. If you get this note and choose not to find me, then I hope you make it in this world. I told you this a long time ago: You're your own man and I know you can find a group and take care of them. Be safe and survive.
Love, Remy
It took three reads for Luca to fully grasp the note's contents. He was beside himself. Remy hadn't abandoned him, she wanted him to come with her, and she even left a note telling him where she'd be. But maybe Simon didn't know that. Maybe from what Simon saw...Remy had abandoned him. Maybe neither Remy nor Simon was lying, yet both thought the other was underhanded. Luca was in a difficult position now. He couldn't not find Remy, but Simon had saved him, and he did promise he'd help Simon, provided Simon wasn't lying. And from what Luca could tell, Simon wasn't lying--misinformed, maybe, but not lying. Luca tucked the note in his pocket, along with the badge and ring. And slowly got to his feet. His tantrum had hurt his leg badly. He needed to control his anger.
Luca had charged right past Clayton before exchanging a few words with Anthony. After that, he was upstairs. Simon approached Clayton and asked if Remy was here. "No, no...she left. Five days ago, I believe. The only person who knows where she went...is Anthony, I think. At least, he's the only one I saw her explicitly tell. She's gone, and that's all I know of it." Clayton nodded to Simon before turning around and making his way back into the hotel.
"You're welcome to stay, you know. Acer's men are dead. No more danger--not from them. This place is salvageable."

Damon was awoken by shouting coming from below. He looked to his side to see Samantha laying with her head against his chest next to him. In the last five days their relationship had developed, it had become more intimate and also calmer. The two had not fought like they did before Rollin' took Samantha, and that certainly made him happier.
Damon brushed some stray hairs away from Samantha's face as she slept and smiled for a few seconds watching her about as peaceful as he had seen. He then slowly replaced his chest with a pillow and made sure Samantha was still asleep. Her eyes flickered open once but then resealed themselves. Once stood he stretched out all his limbs before doing some morning exercises, his shoulder hurt the most from the kick back of the rifle yet he persevered. Taking some water from his bottle he rehydrated and sat on the end of the bed.
He grabbed a shirt and threw on some jeans. He and Samantha had still considered leaving and he wanted to head either east or west. North was cold this time of year, and Damon wanted to stay in touch of food. He had a lot on his mind now yet lost himself in a train of thought staring at the wall.
Leigh had been in the bar, listening to all that was going on. The two cops were back--assholes. They left them, and one of them made it clear to Clayton right away that they wouldn't be here long. Just to "check up" on them, whatever the hell that meant. They'd been doing just fine. The other one talked to Anthony for only a second before hobbling past of him. He was looking for Remy, but Remy wasn't here.
Leigh Anne winced as she heard Luca go insane upstairs. Banging, breaking glass...nobody said anything, but she saw both Clayton and Anthony wince. Leigh almost suggested one of them do something, but then she remembered Clayton and Anthony were the two that hid during Acer's attack. Instead, she looked over to Candy, who was probably shaken by the cops' return. Leigh made her way over to the little girl.
"Hey, Candy...you feeling alright? Haven't seen much of you lately. All good?" Leigh was concerned, but her mind was elsewhere. The cops had instilled an idea in her. Heading back out. Leaving. Leigh had been in New Orleans since the outbreak. There was a whole world out there, and big groups seemed to always get destroyed...maybe, if an opportunity presented itself soon, she'd get out...see the world. Or something.
Luca rushed past Anthony. Anthony felt for the man. Luca, who'd joined their group as a selfish sociopath...now felt like one of the closest people to Anthony after all they'd been through. But, like Remy, he had people closer to him. Remy had family, Luca had Simon. And he'd be gone before long, too. Anthony, though...he had no family.
But Grant did.
It was in that peculiar moment that Anthony realized he couldn't stay. He made a promise to Grant, and it was about time he make good on it. The problem was, he couldn't go it alone. Who would agree to go to Miami with him...and a little girl, Candy? Candy would likely want to come, too, and Anthony couldn't begrudge her the chance. She had people she cared about back in Miami, too...Who was one of the most selfless people Anthony met since this all started? The answer was pretty obvious: Aron. The kid still thought he owed his life to Anthony, and maybe he did at one point, but now, Anthony knew the kid was just a good person. A kind soul.
Anthony made his way to Aron's room and knocked on the door. "Hey, Aron. It's Anthony...I have something I wanna talk about..."
Simon stood as Luca raced off, limping up the stairs of the hotel while Clayton told him Remy left and that Anthony would possibly know. Luca was already on it though, and so far, what he overheard, was nothing incriminating to himself. No one had seen him force his friend out of the hotel because they were too busy fighting off Acer and his lunatics. That was good.
"I appreciate the offer, but we have some business to take care of first. Once we do, maybe we'll settle back in here. We'll bring back supplies and lots of them to say thanks for the hospitality."
He shook his head and pointed towards Luca racing upstairs. "I should go check on him."
By the time he got there though, he could already hear the noise that Luca was making and it was not a quiet sob from a broken heart. It was full on anger at the fact his friend was gone. He could see maybe throwing an ashtray across the room or tipping over a chair, but Luca was full on inside that room. He heard things crashing and glass breaking before everything finally went silent. He wondered if Luca was okay and he knocked lightly on the door.
"You okay man?" Luca called out that he was coming down and Simon frowned. His voice sounded ragged from yelling out his curses and expelling so much energy from trashing his room and when the door finally opened, he looked inside and stuff completely thrown around. "Uh, Luca, what the hell man? What the fuck is going through your head? You just trashed one of the rooms after that older guy offered us room to stay?"
Aron had been sat at his bed for a long time now, looking for just about any excuse not to go down and socialise with the others. It had been five days since the Acer attack and fortunately the days had been a lot less hassle, though there were still a number of walkers left over. The attack had caused many casualties and many people to flee the hotel, he honestly didn't know his place in all the mess.
Then there was a knock. The knock caused him to jump a little, nobody had knocked on his door since arriving at the hotel. It was quite unexpected. The know was from Anthony, one of the few members of the group who actually felt he knew. Aron got up and opened the door and nodded to say hello. Anthony spoke of having something he wanted to to talk about. He had no clue what it could be.
"Oh okay. You want to come in or talk about it downstairs?"
"Here would be better. Nothing to hide, but I don't want anyone hearing what I am going to say--not just yet." Anthony took a few steps inside and sat in one of the chairs in Aron's room. "It's nice here. It's safe--now, anyways. Spacious, and well stocked. You'd have to be crazy to leave, right?"
Anthony chuckled to himself. "Well...call me crazy. Aron, I can't stay here anymore. I made a promise to Grant--remember Grant. back in Colorado? To find his brother in Miami. Well, I'm from Miami. I know how to get there, and it's time I made good on that promise. It would be weird, going back to the place where, really, all this started, but it's what I have to do." Anthony trailed off, breaking eye contact with the younger man. He inhaled slowly before continuing.
"But I'm not sure I can do it alone. I'll already have a kid with me--Candy--she had a group in Miami she wants to find. She hasn't said yes yet, but based on my conversations with her, she'd like to come. I could use someone I trust--someone dependable and...good. You, Aron. I could really use you on this trip." Anthony finally looked up at the man and forced a smile. "You have no reason to say yes. I know that. Andrei--a doctor--is still here. Clayton's a good man. Colette and Arcade, too...they're strong people. Good people. Damon's a good kid, and Holly seems to have turned around. Leigh's learning to become useful, too. You have no reason to help me, but if you did...well...it would mean the world."
Tanya didn't see anyone. So she shrugged her shoulders. Standing up, she slung her AK over her neck and shoulder. Then walked around gathering her Skorpion and her Para. Her eyes looked at the make shift barricade that was keeping the dead out. The thought of just walking over it and killing as many as she could before falling to her fate did cross her mind. Grabbing a white towel, she wiped her face of sweat then hung the the towel over her neck and shoulders. Walking into the hotel, she heard people talking. This was going to be different for everyone since Tanya was walking through the halls without a shirt showing her tattoo which said" Sin". Everyone was up tight still. All she wanted to do was go out on runs again.
She went to Colette's office first, but found it was empty. The next logic location would be to go to Cade. It was time for her to see how he was anyways since she had dragged him back into the hotel away from further harms way. But if Colette was there, she was expecting a fire work show since it seemed Their leader didn't want to see the young Russian female who was one of the groups runners and scouts. Walking around, she came across the door where Cade's room was. Knocking on it a few times, she would stand there waiting for a response. Her para was strapped to her right thigh and her Skorpion machine pistol under her left arm in its shoulder rig. "Hey Cade, how you feeling? And if Colette is inside, can I please talk to her for a few moments? " Tanya said through the door.

Candy as not so phased by Simon and Luca's return, though she did push Flopsy back into her toolbox, and she hugged that to one side. She was ready to run for cover in case they were back for no good. Leigh hadn't seemed to trust them a couple weeks ago, and that had colored her ideas of them. Any gossip about hem since they left probably didn't help that perception.
She relaxed and settled back to finish eating breakfast. Leigh came up to her, so she washed her current mouthful down with a swallow of water. Smiling warmly to the older girl, she slid James the toolbox closer. Her voice was still super soft, so even Leigh could barely hear her.”I'm alright I guess. I don't know why June and Lily left without me and Dallas. I thought were all gonna go. But maybe this place will be okay too? The bad guys haven' come back, but when are they going to go out again? I check the stores everyday still, and I counted less of everything. I been eating less to help it last longer. All that fighting was really scary, but it's just as scary when everything runs out. People still die, just more slowly.”
Shauna Kelly: That helped, thank you
