Simon realized as he got a little closer how this guy's smell was comparable to a walker. It was any wonder he still survived out there. The walkers probably thought he was one of them. When the man spoke about his pack being just outside the door Simon didn't budge to get it. He heard Luca curse quietly beneath his breath, knowing there were still more walkers outside that were attracted to the sound of the pounding on the door and the shot that Luca fired off. All he wanted to do was eat.
He didn't really care about the man saying he was crushing him, but the doctor that saved his life wished for the man to be picked up and brought to a room. It reminded him of the times, in Miami, when they had to take a homeless guy or gal to the drunk tank. Only this time he didn't have gloves or protective gear.
As Luca opened the door again, he lifted his weight off Noland and groaned a bit at the pain in his side from the sudden exertion of energy.
"Get up then. Come on." He wasn't even sure this guy had it in him to hurt anyone, but his gun was ready and in hand in case he did.
Did she need anything? Hell yes! She needed a lot of shit. She needed a warm bath, with bubbles and candles and she needed liquor and music, a good party! She needed to high, so high she could fly! She needed to get laid! She paused in her thoughts, and ice cream! She would kill someone if they could give her chocolate fucking ice cream!
Instead of saying any of those things, she just mumbled out," no, nothing, I'm fine." She hated this ! This world, she wanted her old world back! Where she called the shots and was always having fun! And how did that work out for you? She heard her own voice asking herself in her head. Her voice but cold and bitter. She pulled her arm from under the pillow and stared at the slightly raised scar that ran about three inches up her forearm, from her wrist towards the bend of her elbow. It had sucked! That's how it had been! No one really gave to shits about her, she was a meal ticket, the cash cow, nothing more! She sat up and stared at Damon. He was different. He wanted nothing from her , but he was here, doing his best to take care of her without getting a fucking thing for his trouble.
Sam got up and crossed over to him, crawling back in his lap," this, I need this." She snuggles close against him and listened to his heart beat in his chest.
Nolan was helped to his feet and led to the bathroom, "I'm not drunk right now, but I was I'm just hungover. Been drinking for two weeks as much as possible," the images of his dead son and wife shooting herself danced on his memories, "It happened two weeks ago I was hunting with my son and he was attacked, no torn apart by rotters, and died. My wife blamed me, I don't blame her, she tried to kill me but only shot me in the shoulder and turned the gun on herself."
He sat down on the toilet and began to weep but it was only tears not the full body tremors, he wanted a drink so bad.
"I've just been wondering and drinking," he swollowed hard, "Hoping I'd die but God won't allow it. I've been going through DT's so that's the shaking, lack of booze, but I can beat it with rest and food."
Nolan removed his shirt with strenuous effort, "I didn't know how to take care of this, didn't care either, I don't need to need to be numbed I can take the pain so do what you do."
He extened his hand to the man, "I'm Nolan if you didn't hear, Nolan Vickers. Thank you."
Clayton listened to the man's story as he was helped to his feet. He didn't quite approve of how Luca and Simon go the man inside, but it didn't matter now, and he wasn't about to make himself unpopular with the cops. Instead, he nodded curtly as the man introduced himself, though did not take the man's hand. "I am Clayton Dumont. For the time being, I suppose I am in charge here. Andrei," Clayton looked over to the younger man and gestured for him to approach. "Do what you must, though you know as well as I that we are operating with finite resources."

Luca cringed when Simon forced Nolan to the ground. That was too much, and that wouldn't help Luca prove that he and Simon could play by the rules. He would talk to Simon about it later, as he didn't want to stir conflict in front of everyone. He helped Nolan to his feet and stood to the side as he explained his story. He did't really care, and the sooner they got this man working or out of here the better. He looked from person to person--most of the people didn't know how to handle this...only Andrei, really. Luca looked over to Simon, who'd groaned due to the exertion. "You shouldn't be straining yourself," Luca noted without much emotion. As Clayton delegated responsibility to Andrei, Luca looked over to Simon once again. "You got a sec?"

"Thanks...Candy," Leigh forced a smile before she started eating her own pancakes, though her enjoyment was short lived as her attention turned to Clayton, who'd assigned a list of jobs for everyone. Leigh could understand that, and was happy to have something occupy her time. What he's said about Acer was true, too. He wasn't even on the same plane morally. He was a bad man, but he was disorganized. His group had a hierarchy, but more primitive. Maybe Clayton was right, maybe if they just endured, they'd outlast Acer. Maybe...
Then the unknown man was granted entrance, and Leigh couldn't help but rush forward to the scene to investigate. It was hard to see amidst all the adults standing around, so she got up on the barstool next to Anthony for a better look. The guy looked hurt, and already Andrei was asking questions about his condition. It was then Leigh's eyes fell over to the list of jobs to see her's as "medical apprentice." What the hell did that mean? Definitely something related to health and medicine, but Leigh wasn't quite sure beyond that. Hopefully she wouldn't have to deal with any of this.

Dan watched the man the smell radiating off of the drunk. It smelled like the floor of a cheap bar, made him sick. He turned away, pushing away the last pancake on his plate. "All yours if you want it, I've had enough I think, can't get to used to eating like this." He smiled and leaned back looking at the list Remy pointed out.
He frowned at his job assigned. "I guess I should bring up I'm not an actual doctor again. I can't apply anything, I think most of my 'patients' were worse coming out then they went in. I can patch a wound, but anything major, surgery, and we have a walker now. He looked further on the list. You shouldn't be a runner. I still think Acer will have a target on you. At least they were smart enough to not put james as a hunter too."
Dan looked away as Remy spoke about the lab, and experiments. "I suppose you are right. I'd hate to be on Collette's bad side. She kind of Scares me. We should wait, maybe I'll bring it up to Arcade, see what he would think of it. Then maybe work my way up to the boss lady." He leaned further back. "You don't think you will stay here? Your group seems to want to. As long as Acer is out here you are safer here."
He looked away then back at her, meeting her eyes. "If your family is out there would you look for them? You would be safer out of the city. We could leave today, I'm sure they would understand. You, I, and James could go look for them. We would have our targets away, and it would help you out."
Simon took Noland into the room and left Andrei in there to deal with him. He was a bit out of breath after the whole ordeal and he touched the healing wound to make sure he wasn't seeping out any blood or popped any stitches once he came back outside the room. At least he didn't have to bring him up any stairs. He was sweating from the strain of the incident and realized he probably needed a few more days of rest, which he was planning on doing, until the stranger showed up.
"Yea man, I know, I know. I'm just sick of laying around."
Once the stranger was settled in, he wiped at his brow and looked at Luca. He didn't feel like having a conversation about his injury with the doctor, so he pushed away from the window of the room and started for the bar where he originally intended to go to get something to eat.
"I think I have a lot of 'secs' Luca. We both have nothing but time. What's up?"

Remy waved off the offer to finish his pancakes. She already felt like she was going to vomit from all the food she had eaten but she knew she needed it. Her clothes were not fitting right as she continued to lose weight from lack of nutrition and honestly, she had gotten to the point where she really had no desire to eat. Her taste for food had waned as the lack of food seemed to grow. She was smart enough to take in calories as she could get them though. She watched as the new guy was helped to a room and the group disappeared outside the bar. Things had become quiet as the girls looked over the list and Anthony sat at the end of the bar quietly. She wondered if he was listening in or just thankful to still be alive.
"Well, maybe you can tell that Clayton fellow you'd rather do something else. But what would you do? As far as me being in danger, I doubt it. I don't have anything that guys wants and I can take care of myself out there, but you know that already."
It was nice to just take a few minutes to relax, let her guard down and just talk. Those moments were so far and few between anymore. The only time she really shared anything was with Luca in private, but with Dan, it was different. She felt comfortable with him and her relaxed posture would certainly reflect that. When he spoke about her 'group' she wanted to make it clear where her priorities were.
"Look, this ain't my group. I came home and they had the option to go their own way if they wanted. I wasn't going to turn them down if they followed, but I barely know any of them."
Except for Luca. He was the one she was closest to but with the arrival of Simon, she wondered how long that was going to last.
"My family, if they are still alive, is here. We have property and I'm sure my cousins are keeping it safe. That's what's important to me. If you and James want to come, that's on you, not me. You wouldn't be the only ones coming with me though."
She looked up for a moment at him before letting her eyes drift back down at the table. She knew she couldn't stay behind these walls forever. This wasn't home even if it was a home for now. She just wanted to know if her family was still alive and once she had those answers, then her future could be determined from that. Of course, she told herself a lot of things that would keep her planted that never worked out.
Looking over to the bar she couldn't help but be impressed at the large array of booze that Colette still kept. She seemed to be stocked up well. She got up from the table and looked over the shelves until her eyes landed on a cheap bottle of rum. For some reason, it made her smile as a memory of her and Lilly drinking the cheapest shit they could afford back in college popped into her head. She decided she would take this, along with a couple of shot glasses as Lily shot her a glare.
"Don't worry, I'll go out and bring back another bottle."

"Fair enough," Luca nodded and followed Simon to the bar for some pancakes. As Simon was getting his food, Luca poured himself some coffee as he looked around the room, making sure nobody was really listening to them. Most seemed preoccupied on Nolan or were far enough awa to not hear the two men if they spoke softly enough.
There was a lot on Luca's mind. What Simon had said about "getting to know Remy better" was one of them, but if Luca showed he was too protective...would Simon care? He was his friend, after all, and he would hopefully be supportive. Then again, maybe Luca was just used to traveling with better people now--good people. If Simon was the man he once knew, he may not behave as Luca would like. But there was no point in presuming things, not without Simon knowing. He decided to discuss another matter first.
"Look, I have an uneasy relationship with these people. Most don't trust me, and fewer like me. I'm one of the few people who can keep them safe, and they probably feel the same about you. That's why they're letting us stick around..." Luca paused to take a sip of the coffee. It was lukewarm now, but Luca didn't mind. Made it easier to drink. "I'm trying to change that. Trying to be a team player and show these people I can walk the walk. Be a, y'know, nice guy. And slamming people to the ground isn't exactly the best way to do that, you know?" Luca was trying to sound like it wasn't a huge deal, he didn't want Simon blowing up at him, but he also didn't want his budding relationship with the group to be hurt because of Simon's recklessness.
Luca helped himself to three pancakes and started tearing them apart with his hands, eating them like pieces of bread. He was hungry and didn't care much if he looked a bit barbaric. After all he didn't even know where the forks were. "And Remy, the blonde. Well, one of the blondes. You know. She and I are...close. So yeah, I think you two should get to know each other."

Candy stacked up hers and Leigh's plates, returning them to the bar. She followed Leigh to have a look at the posted job listing. It took dragging over a chair to stand on, for her to get the best angle read. Inventory, so maybe this Clayton guy had read one of her daily reports after all.
She was still looking over the list, and pondering if she should translate any more of her work before trying to hand in this mornings food list. The food list would have to be amended to account for the pancakes. That's when Nolan was allowed and hauled in. Taking Leigh's thoughts on Simon and Luca to heart, she was in no hurry to crowd in while they had their guns out.
For the injured man, she had a strangely cold non-reaction for a little girl. Maybe not so strange considering the outbreak. Once the situation seemed in hand, Candy went back to figuring what to do next now that her job looked official. It wasn't that she had been drained of every last ounce of compassion, because somewhere inside she hoped they could help poor Nolan. Candy just didn't think she would see him alive again, and after what happened with Kim it was a weird kind reassurance to know questionable souls like Luca and Simon were the ones helping.
They were gone and Clayton seemed he was going to be a little busy to talk to right away. Candy got down from the chair, and slid it back to a table. Taking Flopsy and her other stuff with her, she smiled and waved to Leigh, Aron and Anthony. Leaving the toaster in its new home, Candy left the bar to go up into the hotel, and continue her work expanding and updating her record of inventory.
Coming to one locked door she had noted in her two weeks, Candy thought she could really impress Clayton and the others if she could catalogue what was behind that door. Give them more reason not to listen to Cade about throwing them out. Everyone she could ask to open it was gone or busy, and dismantling things like toasters and locks were maybe one of the reasons she bounced around foster care. Using a mix of screwdrivers and her butterfly knife, she pried the doorknob's base plate away from the door to expose the mechanism in the door. Manipulating the door's latch, the door opened. Pressing the base plate back flush against the door, she peered in.
It was either the armory, an armory or just a simple weapons cache. She didn't know which, but she inventoried what she found on her notepad. She collected a couple handguns she found stored there, and sat down. Somewhere along the way, someone had focused her penchant to dismantling small mechanical things to something constructive. The handguns she took apart and sorted with no need to make notes. She went about cleaning the disassembled parts, singing softly to herself on repeat.
You get the limo out front Hottest styles, every shoe, every color
Yeah, when you're famous it can be kinda fun It's really you but no one ever discovers
In some ways you're just like all your friends But on stage you're a star
You get the best of both worlds Chill it out, take it slow Then you rock out the show

"Maybe you're right. I'll speak to him. Though I don't know what I'd do. I could be a runner, I know how to keep myself safe when alone. Thought it might be better if I stay here for now. Having not heard from Acer, it's putting me on edge. I just wish something would happen, so I know my face." He paused. "And you are a target too, all of you. Anyone who appeared to hold power in front of Jackson will be a target, Luca, you, all of them. Acer will want the power people, even if they aren't now."
He looked around. "This is your group. You lead them here, you can't deny that. The people, Luca, Anthony, Aaron, you said you'd been with them, travelled with them. They are your group, wether you like it or not. Same as I would consider Arcade my group. You may not lead them now but if you followed them all this way they are your group."
"I would like to accompany you. I think we shouldn't wait for it though. The sooner you find them the better. Maybe that would end up your home. Where do you want your home to be? It can't be the apartment, it's not safe. If you don't decide now, you never will." He didn't think anyone had a home anymore, that this dream of Remy finding hers was just a fairytale. She could still dream though.

Damon felt sorry for Sam at this moment. The poor girl was probably going through so much right now. The walkers, this hostile group and whatever personal demons she held locked up in her head. Sam didn't really give much away. She was a tough read for the majority of time the two spent together. He found her most sociable when sharing some smokes or a drink, but that wasn't really on the table currently.
Damon's hand searched his pocket checking he had not lost the cigar he found. He felt it and grinned for a second. His ears then heard Samantha speak 'This, I need this'. He watched as she crawled back into his lap and snuggled against his chest. He shifted his arms quickly so he had his hands free. He took a bite out of his food carefully ensuring no crumbs fell into Sam's hair. He felt her forehead just to check she wasn't getting a fever or anything.
After a few moments silence he began to mumble, rather than sing an old Oasis song from England. The actual motivation of the song was to tell Kurt Cobain to cheer up but still in British culture it was considered a great song.
"Maybe I don't really wanna know How your garden grows 'Cause I just wanna fly Lately did you ever feel the pain In the morning rain As it soaks you to the bone
Maybe I just wanna fly Want to live I don't wanna die Maybe I just wanna breath Maybe I just don't believe Maybe you're the same as me We see things they'll never see You and I are gonna live forever"

Simon sat with Luca and looked over at the blonde and a guy he had only seen passing by his window once or twice. He didn't even know the guy's name, but he must be a friend. Luca had told him the guy was a part of the rescue of Anthony but none of it mattered to him. What mattered was that he was going to get better, then go find that bitch that shot him. He noticed how Luca spoke quietly and when Lily came up to them at the bar, he offered her a wink as the coffee was filled up. She gave him a stern look, a warning almost as he bit into the pancakes. He couldn't help but laugh a little.
"A nice guy, huh? I wasn't about to let that guy get the better of us. If these people need us to keep them safe, then we can't get soft. But if you need me to play nice guy, fine, I can be a nice guy."
He took a long sip of his coffee. It was bitter and not that great. It reminded him of the many late night coffee runs to a crappy little diner near the beach. He leaned in a bit and spoke as if his mind had already been made up.
"Look man, as soon as I'm better, you and me, we'll get out of here. We'll get to that survivalist woman's place, get her stuff and get moving again. Just like the old times, right?"
He looked at Luca who looked a bit uneasy having this conversation with him. As far as he knew, there were none left from their band of cops in Miami. It was just him and Luca and his thought process had yet to be swayed by a group of anyone. It was all about survival and that's just what he was doing, even if he was stranded on a lonely island.
"You and the blonde are close? How close Luca? If I get to know her better, what am I going to find out?" He mostly wanted that information so he knew how to approach her. She was stern with him even though he had no idea how much he confessed to her in a drug induced haze. "How much have you told her about yourself? About me?"
Holly wasn't sure what she should do first. She watched Andrei go and help the drunk man, and didn't like the looks of him at all. He looked closer to death than life. She stared at Simon and how he moved. He had hurt himself. He came over and took a seat, with Luca. Holly steeled her nerves for what she was about to do. Quietly, she slipped over next to Simon, didn't even acknowledge Luca's existence." Let me take a look, make sure you didn't cause a tear." Her hands were already moving to Simon's shirt to lift it so she could see his wound. She hoped it was still intact. They were real low on medical supplies and she would hate to have to use up things they would need to treat a wound they had already dealt with. Especially because the patient was hard headed and not compliant.
Sam rested against him , then she felt his hand on her forehead. He was checking to see if she was sick. She smiled and then he started talking. She raised her head and stared at him as he stopped. She knew what he was saying. It was familiar. A poem or something. Sam could t believe how simple little insignificant words could touch her so deeply. Her eyes studied his face," what was that? I've heard it, it's familiar, I just can't remember exactly." She shifted around a bit and hugged him. Sam kissed his jaw line and then laid her head against his shoulder," if this isn't comfortable,I can go back to bed."
She held still for a moment, then couldn't help herself. She lifted her head and stared at him. Her whole life, the only people who had done anything for her, showed her love and kindness, had wanted something from her. She needed to know. What was it Damon wanted from her. " Damon, what is this going to cost me? I can't let myself , I don't want to get hurt." Her words are jumbled and she didn't make sense, but to herself. She stared at his face, searching it. Sam leaned in and kissed his lips and then got up. This was going to get her hurt. She had always just played with men, but this one, he was getting to her and she found herself , she found herself wanting more and more . A few good nights, some fun, hell, a month tops was all she had ever given a man in her whole life, but this one. This one had her wanting to fight, to change and do things to be with him. This was going to get her hurt.

Remy watched as Simon and Luca came up to the bar after detaining the new guy. He was taken to a room and she assumed Andrei had it under control. She wasn't security after all. The list said so. That was Luca and Simon's jobs. She watched as they sat together talking quietly. She couldn't hear the conversation which was probably a good thing. She wasn't so sure she wanted to know what they were talking about. She sat quietly for a moment wondering if she was looking at Simon the wrong way. Before Luca had told her anything about his past she saw him as just another guy even if there was an attraction there from the get go. Even after he told her, she didn't hold judgement over him. Maybe Simon was the same way. Maybe Simon wanted to be like Luca. Maybe there was a possibility he didn't want to harm people anymore.
She shook her head and looked back to Dan as he spoke about becoming a runner. "You can't be a runner, not now. I would bet a guy like that would kill you in your sleep if he had half the chance. I saw what he did to James and his brother. Just for stealing some supplies. There's no way I would let you go out there right now Dan. I ain't gonna let Acer get to you."
She was dead serious as she said that, looking Dan in the eyes as she made that declaration. She knew he would go stir crazy. He was like her. He needed to get out and search, discover and locate items. It was how she met him in the first place. She also knew he was the kind of guy that liked to be alone. She leaned into the table resting her elbows and arms as she spoke quietly. "I don't have a group Dan. Neither do you. You and me? We're a lot like each other. You like to be alone. If you had your way, you'd be alone in this world. How long did you travel alone before you found out that safety comes in numbers? Even that has consequences though. Trust me, I know."
After a bit of silence between them she looked towards Simon and Luca again, keeping her gaze there as Simon looked at her while talking to Luca. She could read his expression and that expression concerned her. "New Orleans is my home. I don't know if it's here in this complex or with my family in the Bayou. I know I have to abandon hope on my apartment. It wasn't sustainable and there was no way I could protect it. There was barely enough green space to grow anything really. But I'm done running. I'm done going across state lines. If this is where I have to die, then at least I know I'll be dying in my home city."

Damon had not even really been paying attention just mumbling away when Sam said she recognised the song before kissing his face and snuggling back up against his jaw " Live Forever by Oasis. My cousin sang it at his fathers funeral, after finally experiencing death it saddens me that I did not attend an event like that. I was spared from all that until I was 18." He was then still a few moments before Sam got on the move again. It was becoming clear to him whatever damage had occurred in Samantha's previous lifestyle. She had a defence mechanism, she didn't seem to want to trust people... especially men.
Damon was a bit surprised when in the middle of her panic she kissed him again before getting up. He stood thinking maybe she wanted some time to herself or something. "Is this world so fucked we cant treat each other with compassion and human decency... Whatever you think I am giving you, it comes with no conditions. No small print. I enjoy being around you, I don't mind looking after you, I don't mind hunting meds for you... whatever's going on here, I have no IDEA what THIS is by the way... Between you and me. Its better than what I had going before. The last few weeks have been more bearable than the two years before."
He took out the cigar he found and kept it in his fingers. "I don't know what people have done to you... but whatever they did... that's not my thing. Ill never be the Damon I once was again, but I would never try to hurt you Samantha. That's my word."
He turned to the door and stopped a second seeing if she had anything left to say for now. He was probably needed up on this new watchtower he had heard about. It had been a few days since he had felt the cool air outside. He checked he had his lighter and grabbed the door handle. It was up to Sam whether she said anything more to him before he left for his shift.
Last Edit: Nov 16, 2015 14:17:44 GMT -5 by Damon Morris
Sam stood there staring at him as he got up and started to answer her. What was this? She didn't know. She just knew she didn't want to care so much about him and then have him ditch her or just grow tired of her. Worse, use her to get something he needed or wanted, like the others.
Samantha. He spoke her full name. Hardly anyone used her full name. He would never hurt her. He headed for the door. Oh god! He was angry! He was leaving her. She started to feel like she couldn't breath as she watched him walk to the door. She couldn't move. She had done this. He said he didn't mind doing things for her, helping her. He was just trying to be decent to her. He didn't feel for her, not like she was feeling for him. She wanted to run to him, to beg him to stay, to tell her how he felt about her. He said the last few weeks had been better than the last two years, but why? Because she needed him? Because he had to take care of her? Why? He had kissed her back in the old apartment, but now, he didn't kiss her back when she kissed him.
Sam watched him walk out the door, and sank down on the edge of the bed. Moments passed, and she grabbed her shoes. She needed to know! She would go find him and just ask him. He was going to be on watch. She could find him, or he would find her. Besides, he still hasn't given her her pills. Sam left the room and went wandering around til she found a door outside. He would be up high. She glanced at the adjacent buildings and could see a large wooden structure behind the hotel, just peeking through . She walked the edge of the building, trying to find Damon, being quiet as she could.
Rollin had been driving around for a few hours watching to see if the blonde would move in her apartment. There was nothing going on and he was getting tired of just sitting here. We went in with shotgun in hand and searched for her. Gabriel was supposed to bring her back, but he hadn't seen hide nor hair of the man back at the mansion for the past few weeks. He was quiet and probably trying to figure out the entire situation inside the mansion out.
Room by room, apartment by apartment, he searched, not finding anything. He decided to go to Colette's place and sniff around to see if anything was moving or if anyone was coming or going. He had no idea Colette and Cade had gone off to the mansion and when he parked his bike, he kept the helmet on and the shot gun in hand as he snuck around a few alleyways. A walker was downed with a knife at his belt. They were just getting in the way most of the time now. His focus was getting Remy and when he caught sight of a blonde coming out of Colette's hotel, his focus was solely on her.
This was going to be a lot easier then he thought. She looked weak and tired and he would take full advantage of that. He flipped up the visor on the helmet, pulled up the shotgun and came out from behind a fence, pointing it right at Sam.
"Scream and you're dead. Start to walk. Try to run and I'll shoot you in the back." He got her while her back was turned and she was at the building across from the hotel. With her compliance came her kidnapping and he would lead her back to his bike.
"Get on the bike, in front." He would get on behind her, wrapping one hand around her waist tightly, almost crushingly as he strapped the shotgun back on his back before driving off with the blonde Acer was looking for.
