Lex had continued along his path, keeping an eye out for guards, or people in general. He wasn't one to do the whole "friendly" interaction. It was best to slip in, get what he needed, and slip out. That had been his MO all this time. It didn't matter to him that others might come to harm from this plan, so long as he got what he needed. So long as he survived. He rubbed his hands together in thought, the cold was getting to bother his fingers. Damn these gloves he thought. Still, it was a great deal better than nothing. Hands raised to cup his mouth as he breathed into them. Hot breath did an amazing job at helping to keep his fingers from falling off. Or if he needed, shooting his fire arm. Not that he wanted to make noise, they were drawn to noise after all.
The pirate picked up his pace a bit as he walked. He wanted to be able to spot this person well ahead of time so that if anything were to go down he would be ready. Luckily he had found a pair of gloves that hadn't been looted yet from an old gas station a couple miles from where he was now. He had to take out a couple walkers to get in but the gloves were well worth it. If course they didn't have any grog. That would've been far too easy.
Eventually he saw the man that had been leaving the tracks warming his hands with his breath. He couldn't figure it out from where he was but the guy looked familiar. Maybe he should just speak and see who it was.
"Ahoy, ye livin or do I need ta be slicing yer head from yer shoulders?"

"Nah, it wasn't really that much to deal with." he replied to Mia. "Mostly emotion-led decisions that turned out to be mistakes and the like. We tried to set up in Miami some time ago, inside a mansion, but that place got overrun. Thankfully, Ellen's dad turned up later, and helped a lot with organizing the group, eventually becoming the leader." Andrei shifted the box in his arms for better grip, and followed Mia to the tent. "Well, it was basically Logan's idea. He insisted me and another guy go find an ambulance, and we decided that, as long as we were there, we should check for supplies. Most people think that if the cabinets are empty, there are no meds, but few bothered to check the storerooms."
As Andrei was speaking, Remy came and slipped the car keys into his pocket. "Thanks, Remy! Owe you one." he told her as she was leaving. Once inside the tent, he listened carefully to Mia about how things worked here, and once she was finished he began unpacking the boxes and finding the right places for everything, remembering where stuff went in the meantime.
"So it's just you two for the entire camp?" he asked Mia while working "From what I could estimate, there are well over 100 people here, so I imagine that there's always something to do in here."

Remy stopped at the edge of the tent and turned around as Logan barked at her. The trust was nearly nothing in her and honestly, she couldn't blame anyone for that. Her leadership skills proved that much. But when he spoke about the virus and containment, she was thrown for a loop. Did he know? He may not have known. Her voice lowered and cracked as she spoke with an almost exasperated sigh.
"You think I'll contaminate everyone with something Logan?"
She couldn't blame anyone for wanting to protect this camp considering it seemed to be the safest place they had found since they left the farm in California. She was the only one left from the farm. The only one.
"You know, you don't die from a walker bite, unless it tears into a major artery. But if it's just a bite, you don't die from that. You die from the infection. The ...thing...inside of us is accelerated to a fever, then death."
She sat down on the nearest bed now, hunching over as she rested her elbows on her knees. "Death ain't death no more. We come back, no matter what."
She turned her eyes to him with a pleading look. That was why she wanted to set up her lab. She wanted to know what it was inside of them that activated such horrors.
"I need to know what's inside me that will turn me into one of them. We all do. We deserve that much."
Mac grunted annoyed. It's not that he didn't want this thing, whatever it was, to get figured out. It was that she wanted to do so in a place where his daughter was a major player and would certainly be held accountable if something were to go wrong. And he hadn't traveled cross-country to find his children just to see them lynched by an angry mob; over his dead body, walking or otherwise.
Mac was also no stranger to seeing science without morals. There were plenty of secrets within the CIA itself, mostly from during the Cold War; experiments done to human beings that were never meant to see the daylight. Some he had seen happening more recent in the Middle-East, although it had been a long time since the US had made themselves guilty of performing such acts. Until the outbreak of this virus that is. In the early days there was plenty of experimenting going on, and he wondered if Remy had performed the same kind that he saw others do; the kind of experiments that would get blacked out in the reports. He realized that such things were necessary as well, but if this was going to happen he wanted a part in it.
"If you think you can handle it; fine." Mac answered Remy's pleading. "But if this is going to happen I'm going to oversee it, and I'll reserve myself the right to pull the plug at any time if I think you're losing grip on the situation. I wanna find out what this is about as much as you, do but I'm a father first and I have two daughters to protect, one of them who has a lot at stake within this camp. In turn I'll share what I know from whatever intelligence the CIA could muster before the outbreak. That fair to you?"
'Ahoy' the word rang in his ears as annoying as a gnat, He knew at once, who this man was behind him, how had this swashbuckling maroon gotten the jump on Lex? He was getting sloppy again... Slowly, he raised his arms in the air, "Don't shoot Cap, I'm not a Walker, not yet anyway." And he would have liked to keep it that way. "I'm turning around now..." Slowly, he turned to face the pirate garbed man he had met nearly a year ago. He hadn't seen him sense, but their last encounter had not gone so well for the Captain. But then Lex was prone to screwing people over and making enemies. Still, it wasn't like Lex had left the man in immediate danger. And obviously he had survived, so maybe the captain would not be angry, but Lex was almost never that lucky. No... When it came to the living, Lex had a long long list of people that hated him. But Lex was a survivor, and this wasn't going to stop him. "Long time Cap."

"We were already starting our investigation into the outbreak in New Orleans. We thought maybe it was some sort of small outbreak in New Orleans. They started to pinpoint it towards the port but then all hell broke loose and...you know."
She stayed put on the cot and turned her eyes towards the opening where she saw people moving back and forth, taking care of whatever it was they needed to do. She still hadn't found her opportunity to go out and explore beyond the walls, but that time would come. She seemed to accept his terms without even really saying she was.
"I reckon we'll have plenty of time to figure things out then. But you have to know something Logan. I gave you enough trust and respect to take what was left of my group and get them to safety. You need to give me enough trust and respect to figure this out now."
She stood up from the cot, looked back over her shoulder and gathered up the length of blonde hair that spilled like a waterfall down her back. She didn't really wait for him to answer that as really, there was only one answer she would expect anyways. She wasn't sure when she would go up before the council and she wasn't sure how she would plead her case, but with Logan overseeing the project now, she was certain she would be able to get back to work soon.

"Kraken's balls! Of all lubbers ta be findin' on the road."
The pirate shook his head remembering back to a year ago, when he had met this one. It wasn't like the man had left him for dead or anything but he remembered his being significantly lighter after their meeting. Hadn't he done the same to others from time to time though? I this world it always came down to survival and sometimes the methods to achieve that were not always "kosher"
"I'm want to blow yer brains from your skull where we stand, 'course can't say I'dve done any different'n ye did so looks if I ain't got no right ta do so."
His hands moved from his weapons enough to show lex that he was not an immediate threat but they stayed close enough so that if he needed to draw he could do so quickly.
"S'pose we be movin' in the same direction lubber an' two be better then 1 'gainst them walkers."
Kraken's balls? Lubbers? 'gainst? This man was right out of Treasure Island... Why, of all the people left on this damn planet, did Lex have to come across him again? Still, the Captain was willing to over looking his being taken advantage of, and that meant he wasn't going to try and kill Lex. Which was good in any man's book. He let out a sigh when the Cap seem to suggest they team up agains the walkers that might be out here. "Sure Cap, whatever you say." He could always use a decoy should the need arise. He lowered his arms to his sides and watched as the man came closer. "I take it you're here because you heard 'bout this supposed stronghold, or safe heaven or whatever?" Lex didn't believe any place was safe, not forever. So he never stayed in one place for long. Don't overstay your welcome, they used to call it. A Philosophy he still practiced. One of many anyway. The question served more to find out what the Cap knew, what his plans for being here were. Last they had met, Cap wanted a ship of some kind to sail the seas. Can't imagine that was any safer than anything else, but everyone had their delusions... Some just had more than others...
Without saying another word he started to walk towards the direction they had both been headed. If Lex didn't start moving before he caught up then Veran would stop. Wasn't any way he was getting in front of that lubber. There was an old saying that he kept to. Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me.
"One thing ye need ta be gettin' in yer head as fact though Lex. Ye cross me again an' I'm not like ta be so forgivin' again."
As long as Lex was walking Veran would continue to stay a couple paces behind him, keeping one eye on the drifter while the other was looking for other threats.
Carter looked at the man's hand that he had offered him. He first gave a stare, but eventually met hands with him, giving a quick shake. "It's a... Nice to meet you too, Yuri" he spoke with a more confident tone in his voice. Carter looked over to the others, all introuducing each other. His head nodded, he wouldn't mind being a bit more confident and ballsy like Yuri spoke about. "Sure, but you know if they got anything to eat? I'm starving". He looked at Yuri with a hand on his stomach, he hadn't gotten much food when driving the ambulance to Bear Lake.
And so now he knew why The Captain was here. Not that it mattered, that was kind of along the same lines he was here. Though he was after the supplies more than the safe place to rest his head. He'd find sleep later. He watched as the Cap made his way towards him, only to have the man stop a few paces away, he could hardly blame the man. Here they were working together, yet neither one seemed to trust the other. Then the man made his threat, or warning. Words of caution any other man would take to heart. But Lex wasn't any other man, he was a lone survivor with more training than this pirate could ever have. Not that any of that mattered against a well placed bullet. He gave a nod before spitting off to his side. "Understood. But watch yourself Cap." Lex didn't take threats well, and his body language said all that needed to be said on the matter. Lex wasn't one to forget threats. He turned and started walking when it became clear to him that the man wasn't going trust him that much. Still, he couldn't help but smirk. And so, the two started walking down the path before them. Lex in the lead, The Cap a few paces behind him.
Mia smiled at him as she picked up some syringes and placed them in a drawer. "No, more like 200...well, last count before you guys was around 217, so..no, not much free time." She ran a hand through her hair, "I sleep when I can, and usually grab meals fast. This place takes alot of my time. We have some people who can help with the filing, but Jane, the Doc, she is sorta funny about who she trusts." She stared at him for a moment, 'So...I had a decent supply if vitamins for a bit, but, they are dwindling down. You would be surprised at the number of people who aren't sick here, we do our best to supply good meals and keep everyone hydrated and keep things sanitary." She glanced around, seeming a bit nervous.
"So...more boxes." She pointed to the door and headed for it, to go back and get more things from the ambulance, "I can see if some of the guys will give a hand unloading, if you want?" she asked, pausing near the door. She canted her head, "I..heard the blonde...she medical too? Maybe she will help out in here as well?" She was testing the waters, edging around some questions she wasn't sure if she should ask. "The guy, Logan...that's Ellen's dad....and the rest of you chose him as leader, then?" Mia glanced outside, 'Well...no one leader here, it's all voted on by the council." She waited a moment, then slipped out the tent flap, heading across the way to the ambulance.
Veran nodded to the man. He got the implications of what the man meant and perhaps he should have been a bit more careful with his words. Not like it really mattered all that much. He had a suspicion that Lex was not one to play nice unless he absolutely had to. The pirate could understand that and insights from before told him that the man was likely this way to cope with the way that the world had become. As he was on his own it was almost certain that he had been through some kind of loss. If there was one thing that the ole salt understood it was people doing strange things to cope with loss.
"Yer warning hit it's mark lubber. Least we both know we're the other stands if'n the winds turn. Ye're not like to have any grog are ye? Might be a drink'd warm me frigid bones."
A small chuckle escaped his lips as they walked and he visibly relaxed. Sure if things hit the fan Lex wasn't gonna be doing him any unnecessary favors but until then their survival was tied to one another. Neither could risk a bullet in case there were walkers about and if it came down to hand to hand combat the pirate was sure that he would at least put up a good fight. His strange appearance always seemed to lead people to underestimate him. He hadn't survived on his own for the last two years purely by luck.
The ask for 'grog' came once more from the Pirate at Lex's back. "Grog?" he said as a brow quirked. "Remind me what the he..." He was cut off as the Cap spoke of needing a drink. Did he have anything? He stopped, removed the backpack and took a knee in the snow as he opened it. Shifting things around as best he could he came up with nothing. Closing the back he stood once more and placed the bag from where it had come. "Sorry Cap, not this time." He said with a shrug and a glance at the man, despite what it looked like, Lex didn't have a drink on him at this moment. He had used the last of it several days ago lighting some bandits aflame. "Who knows, maybe they'll have some at this fortress or whatever." He started walking again, keeping an eye out as best he could for any signs of movement. For now, they needed to be quiet, they needed to move undetected. A shame this bastard was wearing a purple jacket... Stood out something fierce in all this snow.
"Twas worth the attempt least." He said talking a small sip of cold water
"Don't s'pose ye ave a clue if'n we be walkin' in the proper direction?"
If they didn't find this place soon they'd have to start looking for a place to hold up for the night. He didn't like the idea of trusting the lubber while he was sleeping but traveling at night wasn't the best of ideas. the thought occurred to him that Lex may be up to his old tricks in regards to this settlement. If it was that way he might have to stand up for these people, course these people might not be all that people said they were.
Lex shook his head, this fool really liked to talk. "Keep your voice down." He said quietly over his shoulder. A tone that seemed to ask if he wanted them to be caught. "It's somewhere by the lake, or so people say. I'm not even sure this place is real, but I was heading this direction anyway." He rubbed his hands together as he started walking. It seemed he had picked up on the Pirates meaning, however, "If we don't find it soon, we'll start looking for shelter, wait the night out. Neither of us is dressed for a night out on the town." He said with a slight smirk. He didn't think he had used that saying sense the world went to shit... He came to a stop when he thought he heard something. As he tried to listen, The Cap started to ask what it was. Lex turned and was just about to tell him to be quiet when a Walker jumped out from behind the trees in an atempt to grab him. Lex lunged forward and shoulder checked the captain, knicking him free of the arms, it latched onto Lex and they went to the ground. And he wasn't alone... More came out, several more. Lex fell to the ground, wrestling to keep the thing away from him as it tried to bite him, all the while cursing The Cap for getting them into this situation. If he was bitten in this encounter, he was going to kill the Cap.
He was shocked for a fraction of a second when Lex shoulder checked him out of the way to save him from the walker that had jumped our of the trees to try and eat him. The next second he regained his wits and his saber came out of it's sheath and into the head 9 the walker that was on top of Lex. He kicked the walker off of the lubber and quickly seated his saber. There were too many to take on hand to hand. His trusty Beretta was in his hand and he had fired three head shots in a matter of seconds.
"Ye got enough ammo fer this or do we run?" He asked as he lifted Lex to his feet.
Lex fought off the walker as best he could, until Cap put a saber in his skull, the force of the blow was enough to lights out the walker for good. It was kicked off and Lex helped to his feet, but not before three shots had been fired. Cover blown... He cursed his luck as another shot was fired. "Don't ask stupid questions, just shoot the damn things!" He said as he raised his sawed off and pulled the trigger. The sound was a much louder boom than that of the Captain's Beretta, but that was the quickest weapon to free for him. Another shot and two Zombies dropped. The numbers were quickly dwindling. The gun was sheathed and his trusty knife was freed. Not many now at this point, he felt it best to conserve ammo, should any breathers show up with ill intentions.
Veran bolstered his weapon much as the lubber had and out came his saber once again. He went to work fighting by Lex. He was confident that they could take out the remaining walkers but as soon as they took care of these ones they would need to move. It wouldn't be safe for them to stay as this many shots had surely alerted more walkers to their position. He took out three more walkers with his saber and suddenly the pack was down to almost nothing.
"Ye notice I kept killin' while askin' them silly questions lubber? Gotta know ta be runnin' if'n ye hadn't had enough ammo."
Shauna Kelly: That helped, thank you
