Luca stayed in the car as Logan reunited with his daughter, a look of surprise on his face. He didn't expect the girl to be alive. Good for him--another person to lose, though. As Luca scanned the area, looking at Ellen, Randall, Charlie, and the others, he raised his eyebrows, impressed. So this place, Bear Lake, was legit. Once again, surprised. These McAllisters had their shit together. Luca stepped out, .44 in hand, as the gunshot was fired just over Randall's head.
The culprit was found quickly--some woman who'd apparently been following them since Texas. A third time, Luca raised his eyebrows in shock. Since Texas? Goddamn. Brave woman. Resourceful woman. Kill her.
But that wasn't the consensus. This woman was dangerous--at best, she was a thorn in their side. And she had at least some supplies to have made it this far. Wouldn't hurt to put a bullet in her and take her stuff. Or at least take her stuff. Let her live, for all Luca cared. But no--the bitch was allowed to tag along. Luca shook his head as he got back into the car, waiting for the group to depart to Bear Lake.
Anthony smiled as Logan and his daughter--Ellen--embraced. He smiled even wider as Anne-Marie joined. It warmed his heart to see the family reunited. This also meant Bear Lake wasn't a sham, and that the group was hopefully close to safety.
Apparently they'd be subject to a medical screening. Fair enough, that made sense. Anthony was eager to get inside the settlement's walls. Safety, food. Protection. A fresh start! He could hardly wait.
(OOC: sorry for the short posts, Anthony just doesn't have much to say right now)

The keys to the Beemer fell to the ground as Andrei failed to catch them. It would be left in the woods since he decided to take the ambulance instead. Once she rejoined the group, she scooped up the keys again and shook her head with disdain as the only feature on her face.
"Idiot."
She headed for the car that Andrei expected her to continue driving and looked to Luca who seemed to be standing there sizing others up.
"Luca, need a ride?"
She waited for him to get in the passenger seat, saying nothing as they forged ahead into the complex. She looked up the banks of the road that were covered in snow as they moved down the road towards the path that led to the complex. She couldn't help but look past Luca to the right as they passed the legless walker she just took out. Nothing was said as she drove. She wanted to sleep but she wanted to get to this safe place. Maybe this was their new garden of eden.
Luca's head snapped towards Remy as she asked him if he needed a ride. He stuttered. "Ah--uh. Yeah, yeah," he finally managed as he made his way to the BMW. Luca noticed the legless walker from the window--he'd noticed it earlier, but didn't think much of it. But apparently it was keeping Remy's attention.
"What's that--the walker, I mean?" He asked her, trying to make eye contact with her. He wanted to avoid any situation similar to that when they first arrived at that motel back in Texas--with the kids. He didn't want Remy to go through that again. Maybe it was because he just didn't want to deal with it, or maybe it was because he didn't like seeing her upset. Maybe both. Probably both.
"You good?" he asked her again, his expression serious. Perhaps the most serious it'd been since he'd met her.

"It ain't nothin." She turned back towards the road to avoid eye contact with him. Probably for the better anyways since she was the one driving on no sleep. She would be just as happy parking the car right now and closing her eyes.
Her tone had become cold and distant with him. Twenty four hours alone in a car gave her lots of time to think and her thoughts, she believed, led her down a better path to coping with the world the way it was.
"I'm fine."
The caravan slowed and came to the gate where weapons were immediately trained on their cars as they were given clearance to enter, thanks to Logan and Anne-Marie. If it weren't for them, they would have never made it here. Hell, she wasn't even sure they would have made it this far. They needed a leader like Logan to survive. He knew where to go. She had no idea what was inside for them and at this point, she had no idea there was a familiar face inside.
Luca shrugged as the woman claimed to be fine. He doubted it was the case, but he wasn't going to press the issue. The camp was impressive. Many weapons, almost in unison, now trained on them. Secure. The place's walls seemed secure, and there wasn't a walker in sight. He had almost forgotten that he was debating on splitting from the group at this point. That is, until Remy reminded him with her question.
What was his plan? To split? And go where? Luca laughed awkwardly. "After seeing the security here--nah. Place seems safe. Better odds in here," he remarked, his eyes darting around, believing this too good to be true. "That is--if I'm still wanted" he shot Remy a half-smile, truly not knowing what to expect from the woman.

"Luca Sultana, a wanted man. It has a ring to it."
She tilted her head as she parked the car and got out, looking around at the people that were in the complex. So many of them and all with a regimented schedule and jobs to do. It certainly beat the alternatives in this life. But was this for her? She was hesitant about what her role would be here in the first place and when Ellen spoke about medical exams it made her skin crawl even more. When was the last time she had even been to the doctor. Hell, she knew the signs of disease on a body and knew the difference between a bacteria and a virus. She could handle her own and she knew she wasn't sick.
"Just play nice. I'm sure you'll get on just fine here."
Her voice was distant as she looked around, almost as if she wasn't paying attention to him. She was concerned about where they were going to be herded off to and how they were suddenly going to be treated.
"I just hope they let non-military types stay here."
She thought about that walker with no legs that was tied up in the woods and she wondered if she was planted there as an example to those who can't play nice.
Luca grinned at Remy's comment about him being a "wanted man." Ironic, really. For more reasons than one. But he took it as a yes. Luca stepped out of the vehicle in unison with Remy, glancing around. Everyone seemed to be on the move. Odds were they'd never taken in a group this big before. Probably a curveball for them. Remy was doubtful. He could see it in her eyes, but she voiced her concerns, too.
"That Randall guy's too old to be military," he remarked. Guy could be ex-military, sure, but Luca didn't want Remy's confidence to waver any more than it already was. "If that was the case, they woulda turned Anthony and Vivian away on the spot--Yuri and Aron, too. And you," Luca nodded confidently.
Luca took a few steps forward, stretching. He hadn't the chance to do so when he briefly exited the car before. "Chin up, now," he said to Remy. "Let's get this medical bullshit over with--we got a new life to live, right?"

Remy shot a glance to Luca as he stretched. Maybe if she just slept for a few hours this wouldn't seem so..overwhelming. They wanted to take her weapons and have her poked and prodded by a stranger or perhaps a group of strangers. She clenched her jaw, rolled the windows down and threw the keys to the car in the driver's seat. As she looked to the backseat, she remembered the medical equipment that was in the trunk.
"Yea, we should get this over with. I got some things to do."
She leaned in to the car, popped the trunk and went to go inspect the backpacks full of lab equipment. This was where she could start. This could be the place where she actually figured out what happened without having to worry about walkers and bandits tearing them apart.
Ellen was approached by someone who introduced himself to be Andrei, the medic from her dad's group. The guy seemed full of questions, and seemed hell bend on making himself suspicious. Given, he had a point; their arrival didn't go in the usual manner and they did do things differently, but then again this was her dad's group. She was sure that if someone meant to do harm they wouldn't be among them. Dad would've weeded them out already.
He also asked if they had a research plan. Although it seemed like a noble cause to find out what had caused this and come up with a solution, the camp's main focus was to keep people alive. They were nowhere near to finding a cure nor had it been one of their goals. As for the medical supplies, Ellen hoped they'd be willing to share whatever was in that ambulance. Having another doctor was also handy. Doctor Harding had been stressed out lately, would be nice to give her a break.
"Pleasure to meet you Andrei." Ellen answered. "So yeah, about that... If you meant to do harm my dad would have never taken you with him, let alone allow you to be near to Anne-Marie. You saw how we dealt with Rochelle, that's our usual MO. You're being spared that treatment because of my family. But please, if you've got rats to spare; this rabbit and deer meat is getting kind of boring, and I'd like some variety in my diet."
The last part was a joke of course. Ellen wouldn't eat rats unless... well... maybe she would reluctantly if there wasn't anything else. But the rabbits were breeding like... rabbits and they were able to domesticate a doe. If only they could catch a buck too, they could start breeding with deers as well. But the hunters usually had to shoot them for meat.
"As for your question if we're researching whatever is causing this; we don't." Ellen answered. "Too busy keeping people alive. We've got a doctor who was a cardiologist before the outbreak and a functional medical bay, but we're low on meds and we lack the equipment to do any heavy procedures. So I'm hoping you're willing to share your knowledge and whatever's in that ambulance. Once you're cleared I can put you to work in the medbay, I'm sure doctor Harding will appreciate the assistance."
Mac was impressed by the way the camp was build and figured there must've been some real craftsmen among the survivors within. He couldn't help but notice the flaw in its defences though; the walls kept the walkers out but could be easily scaled by human opponents. He'd have to talk to Ellen about finding some barbed wire to put it atop the walls. Other than that, the camp seemed solid. Its major flaw however was that it consisted of wood, and was located inside the woods. It was concealed but then again, one fire and it would be completely ruined. He hoped his oldest had thought of safety precautions.
It was then he noticed the third degree Ellen was getting from Andrei. Sure, Andrei was right in asking those questions; kid had a good head on him and a healthy amount of suspicion in him, but still the father in him felt like going to his daughter's rescue, even after she had served Andrei the answers he needed.
Grabbing the doctor by his collar from behind, Mac gently pulled him backwards and away from his daughter.
"Down, doc." Mac said. "You'll have plenty of time to save the world later. For now just try to behave okay?"
Saving the world wasn't Mac's priority, the safety of his daughters was and that wouldn't change. Yet if there was to be research into it, he'd definitely would like to hear about it. But there'd be a time and place for that later. For now he wanted to relax in the knowledge that he had fulfilled his mission. This family reunion had already been clouded by the fact that he would have to tell Ellen of Drew's betrayal to Anne-Marie later on, so he could never fully get some peace of mind never knowing what happened to his son. But for now, he just wanted to let his guard down for the first time in a long time, and let others do the work.
After she had taken her place in her dad's car, the elder man who appeared to be Ellen's friend took a seat as well. He politely asked for her name; and Anne-Marie was inclined to oblige.
"Yeah, younger sister... yay!" Anne-Marie said somewhat holding back. "My name's Anne-Marie."
The Charlie girl sitting next to her seemed friendly as well. Anne-Marie remembered her from Ellen's ROTC graduation. This girl was also Ellen's best friend and roommate back in college. She figured that any friends of Ellen's would be friends of hers. It'd be nice to be among people who wouldn't point a gun at her for a change. Anne-Marie was so done with Mexican standoffs.
After they reached camp she listened to what was going to happen. Anne-Marie was so proud of her sister, being in charge and giving orders... She was so strong; people older than her seemed to take orders from her and ask her for permission to do things.
Anne-Marie stood next to Ellen as Andrei gave her his interrogation. Typical of him; her sister gives them a break and he just had to go and question it. Ellen answered him politely and Anne-Marie wondered whether or not she would have been as courteous. But her sister always had a great sense of diplomacy.
She couldn't help but chuckle when dad intervened however, pulling Andrei back and telling him to ease off.
"That's right. Mess with one McAllister mess with us all!" Anne-Marie thought, but abstained from actually saying it.
To her the others didn't matter anymore. Dad was here, Ellen was here and now they got to be a family again.

Andrei listened carefully to the woman's answers. She was quite the diplomat in his opinion. The part about her father had some truth in it. He was probably a scary man when the safety of his family was in question. He laughed slightly at Ellen's joke about rats.
"Yeah, I do miss a good rat-burger from time to time." Andrei added, jokingly. He continued to listen, learning that research wasn't really a priority, and who could blame them. Most people were too busy with surviving to study everything, but maybe he could convince them that it would be a good idea to study the walkers, at least a bit. Without putting people at risk, of course. Their lack of medical equipment and personnel reminded him of how things worked in this world now. "The ambulance was your dad's idea. Somehow, I think he prepared for this place, rather than the trip. Regarding the supplies...your dad's the leader, so it's mostly his decision, and I don't think he'll say no. However, if it's all the same to you, I'd like to top off my personal stash." Andrei said while patting the small satchel attached to his belt. It had quite a few things, but they were mostly for emergencies when supplies were out of reach. "Sure, maybe I can-" he couldn't finish the last sentence, since he felt something pull on his collar. Seeing that it was Logan, and hearing his words, made him laugh a bit.
"Yeah, man, don't worry! Sorry if I seemed impolite. There'll be time to discuss business later. Go and relax, you've earned it. Sorry again!" Andrei responded to Logan. The fact that he spoke to Andrei as if he were a dog amused him terribly.
Rochelle dutifully parked the car she rode in and got out, listening to Ellen about mandatory medical examinations for all of them. She didn't really care considering she knew she was healthy and really had nothing to hide. She would respectfully do as she was told even though she had no idea where she was supposed to go. Thankfully there were some helpful hands on deck to take them towards the doctor's exam room.
It was a cold, almost sterile place, as much as it could be for a makeshift doctor's office. The doctor seemed distant and busy. She was asked to remove her shirt and pants, but that was about it. Thankfully it wasn't too cold in the exam room, but she could certainly feel the draft from the harsh winter outside. She didn't say much as she looked over her arms and legs, back, and listened to her heart. A few hmmms here and there but otherwise, she would deem her healthy as the check marks were placed down his paper. After the quick exam, she was left to get dressed and go back out to the group.
She put the jacket back on to stave off the cold and left the medical examination room for the next participant. She approached Yuri and offered a smile as she kept walking out to the main area of the camp. "It's not so bad."
Mac couldn't help but break a smile at Andrei's answer. Luckily the doc was agreeable and could see the humor in the situation.
"Sorry about that." Mac said to Ellen. "Doc's a good kid but a bit overzealous at times. Got some talent underneath all that hair as well."
Mac then took his turn going in to see the camp's doctor, making sure he or she was alright before sending in Anne-Marie. The doctor was female and seemed like a stick in the mud. Apart from the occasional grunt and order to breathe in and out, lift a shirt here and there she didn't say too much. Mac wondered whether or not she had this cheery disposition before the outbreak.
When he came out, he sent in Anne-Marie. After a short while, his youngest came out. Both of them went back to stand with Ellen, waiting for the rest of the group to get clinically approved.

Andrei was next into the medical tent, after the McAllisters. As soon as he got in he took off most of his clothes and gear, leaving only his pants on. All his things were put neatly on the table next to him. There he waited for a while until the doctor came for the check-up.
"'morning, doc! How's it going?" Andrei asked the woman with a cheerful demeanour. She didn't really answer however, and kept a professional attitude. Breathe in, breathe out, cough, lift your arm etcetera. He didn't push it any more, and let the woman examine him fully. Once it was done, he got dressed, and before exiting, he said: "Thank you, doctor! I look forward to working with you." After that he went to Logan and his girls to wait for the rest.

Remy closed the trunk as she looked at Luca. Maybe he was curious about what she was talking about, maybe he wasn't. Either way, she suddenly discovered a purpose for herself but she knew what had to be done. She couldn't be pushed in different directions like she felt she was back at the farm in California. She couldn't let distractions muddle her mind. It's why she said the things she said to Ash long ago. It was that determination that had eluded her since they were forced by bandits to flee the farm. She took charge and didn't have time to set up the lab at the mansion in Miami and when she tried, the group turned against her at the first sign of gathering up walkers.
But here, she felt she had a chance.
When Andrei left the doctor, she placed a hand against Luca's shoulder and smiled, trying to reassure him that she was fine. "I'll go first."
Everyone else seemed to come out just fine without trauma and the doctor seemed to work fast to check for bites or illness. When she went in, she was hesitant to remove her shirt, not for the fact she was shy, but more for the fact the old gunshot wound that Adolphus had inflicted upon her would be seen. The doctor looked at her sternly and commented about it even though there was no fever or any bite marks on her body.
"Old wound. It's healed and there's no complications from it. I ain't gonna infect no one."
The doctor inspected it a bit more with a mag light and deemed her healthy enough to return to wahtever it was she was going to do. However, the injury was noted on the piece of paper where the check list was. Thankfully there were no other issues that rose suspicion in the woman and she had no desire to share with her the studies she wanted to conduct at the complex. If she was going to share her findings with anyone, it was going to be with Andrei and even then she wasn't too sure how much she could trust him anymore. It was odd. It seemed the only person she could trust right now was Logan, and that was just with her personal safety.
When she was released, she put her clothing back on and exited, pulled the warm, welcoming jacket back over her arms as she approached the MacAllisters.
"Is there a chance I could use some space to set up my own lab here? I have medical equipment and tools that I need to try and discover what I need to find things out."
Her eyes shifted towards the other strangers in the camp as she took a step closer. It didn't matter if Andrei heard her or not, as he knew exactly what she wanted to do.
"I want to get to the bottom of all this. I want to know what caused all....this."
Ellen grinned as her dad pulled his group's medic away from her in paternal protection. It didn't bother Ellen at all, she thought it to be rather funny. The guy, despite his serious questioning, seemed like a fun-loving type and the type she could easily be friends with.
After her family got through the medical inspection alright, Ellen thought about what to do next. She'd have to take them all to see the Council, which she saw more as a formality. No Council in this world was going to keep her family from staying with her, and that went the same for their friends. Despite it being the Council's supposed decision; Ellen wouldn't put people back out there alone under any circumstance.
A blonde girl came over to Ellen and her family, asking about whether or not she could put up a laboratory so she could try to save the world. Although Ellen thought it to be a noble cause and worth pursuing even though she did have her own reservations about certain aspects of such a thing; such a matter was for the Council to decide. And she had a good idea about what their answer would be.
"Ellen, this is Remy." Mac introduced his blonde compatriot. "She's an epidemiologist." "Pleasure to meet you Remy." Ellen said. "Were you with the CDC? I was majoring in anthropology in Boulder myself. My squad and I escorted some CDC folks at the university in the first days after the outbreak."
Ellen's questions weren't so much out of suspicion but rather out of curiosity. She had no reason to assume anyone would claim to be an epidemiologist after the outbreak, as it would likely result in them getting blamed for it. And Ellen knew that if this woman was full of shit her dad would have figured that out already. In short, this lady was most likely the real deal.
Nate watched from where he sat as all these new people piled into the camp. He didn't know who any of these people were, but they seemed to know one of the council members. What was he name? Ellen? Eleanor? Ellie? It didn't matter, they didn't seem like bad people, but then again it was hard to judge bad and good anymore. After all he himself bordered on the line.
He watched them all one by one enter and leve the doc's tent. Nate had avoided her ever since his examination, something about her made the visits drag on and on. He pulled his ax from his bag and tested the sharpness of it, it was starting to go dull, something he'd have to take of later.
He debated going and seeing what needed to be done today, he didn't know if there was a task list or job orders. He had only been here a couple of weeks, still learning all of the ropes. Nate stretched out from his seat and tucked the weapon away. He hoped these people would add to the camp. The one said something about being a lab, that could lead to a cure for this. A cure was one thing this world needed, something to get red of te chaos.

Remy smirked to Logan as he introduced his second daughter to her.
"I'm glad you found your family Logan. A small beam of light through all this."
Something that no one else in their group could boast about. But at least she was personable which was different from Anne-Marie. Ellen seemed to have her head on straight whereas Anne-Marie seemed a bit unhinged. Maybe being in this camp would help her settle down and learn how to be a good leader.
"Thanks. Nice to meet you too. No, not CDC. Louisiana Department of Health. I was in New Orleans."
She ran a hand up the back of her neck and looked towards the beemer where all the supplies were. She just wanted to make sure none of the people in this camp decided to loot her stuff.
"Can't necessarily say I trust the CDC on this. When it hit NOLA we were trying to stay in contact with them, only to be put on hold, brushed off or told they would get to us later. We did what we could, but the city was overrun. It was time to leave. I'm better off working on my own."
Her eyes drifted to Andrei who was paying keen attention to the conversation.
"Or with him. Either way. I'd like to set up what equipment I managed to salvage and maybe sleep for a few hours."
Shauna Kelly: That helped, thank you
