In the distance Hykeem could see the Large rock with the name of the small town he was born and raised n craved in the side of it. Estes Park it read and every time Hykeem drove past it he was reminded of everything he left behind there. His best friend who now hated him , his girlfriend who was now married with. A child , and his mother who cried on the phone every time they spoke. It felt good for Hykeem to be back home and as he drove past the sign his mind became trapped in the past making him forget that the world was now Hell. He drove around the bend and down the side of the mountain down into the small city of a few hundred. He drove through the downtown area taking back in all of the memories and not noticing the hordes of the gray skinned people until his car smashed into a group of them. Hykeem's body smashed up against the steering wheel as he tried to stay on the road.
He quickly gained back control of the car glancing back at the hordes watching for a quick second as they followed him.
"What's wrong with them" he asked himself aloud.
He then very quickly pressed he foot on the gas and headed toward his mother's home. On his way there he told himself she was alive even though he knew it was the opposite. It wouldn't really hurt Hykeem if she was dead because he wasn't that emotionally attached to her and it wasn't like he knew her very well now days. She would only calm him once a month crying about him being away but Hykeem never really felt the same way.
He had finally reached the house pulling up into the long drive way. He didn't really know why he had came back here but maybe he was meant to. He climbed out of the car and walked up to the front porch. - Knock-Knock-Knock- was the only sound Hykeem heard as he knocked on the door. He knocked again and got no reply so he turned toward his car and began to walk away. All of a sudden he heard the door open behind him. Quickly turning to see who it was Hykeem lifted his sniper and pointed the nozzle of the rifle on the forehead of a young woman.
-Please don't shoot me- the young woman plead.
"Where is my mom" Hykeem asked removing the gun from her head.
-You mean Mrs.Ashley- she asked
Hykeem nodded gesturing for her to go inside. The woman looked about twenty years old and had a small child behind her. Hykeem walked in after the lady ignoring the presence of the small child.
-You might want to sit down for this- the young woman replied gesturing toward a small black leather stool in the dining area.
"I'm fine" the young man replied back.
-Well help yourself- she started again.-Your mother died two weeks ago- the lady finished.
Hearing this was like a slice to the leg to Hykeem and he could easily take a slice to the leg. He got up nodding and then walking out of the house. He walked back out onto the porch.
"Thank you for your time" he yelled to the lady as he started back up his car. He didn't want to be a nuisance so he was going to leave the woman and her child alone. He cranked up his vehicle and drove off into the sunset.
