Tala stared down at the engine, then bent over the front grill to take a better look. She pulled on cables and hoses, checking them. She needed to get busy. She wanted to get as much done before she lost the light. She straightened up and went around, popping the trunk. Going to the trunk, she lifted it and started rummaging through it. She found a bag of tools and an empty gas can.
Tala walked back to the front of the vehicle, as she saw Robert, she tossed the empty gas can at him." Hey, we need this filled up, and do you have jumper cables? Gonna need to jump this beast to see if she will even purr." She dropped the tool kit and again dipped her head and arms back under the hood.
She saw Wyatt talking to Emyr. Poor guy. She knew Wyatt was either giving him the , take care of her speech, or forming some kind of a plan. She was leaning for the first one with the look of Emyr's face. Her choice was really simple. Robert and Wyatt had to go on the run. Mary needed to go, and that left Oliver and Emyr. She wanted someone who would actually watch her back, not just sit in the lawn chair and ogle her ass. She also saw how Emyr took out those couple walkers when they had first arrived. He had a hidden fighter in him and she needed that.
Protect. Mary's face only saddened more than it already was at that word. Her friends often said the same. That as long as they stuck together and had each other's backs they would be fine. That didn't seem to matter to the walkers. They still found a way to break them up, and for all Mary knew she was the only one still alive. Why her? That was the one thing she couldn't understand. Why her? Mary's voice was practically hollow by the time she spoke up again:
“That's what they all say.”
Mary turned and followed Robert reluctantly. Head lowered and eyes staring at her feet as she did so. Only raising it again when he asked his questions. Shaking her head.
“The others in my last group took care of the shooting.”
Shinta, June, Lily, Dallas, and Nex all had firearm training. Though Nex only learned while they traveled since Dallas wanted everyone to have some understanding of guns on the road. Tori flat out refused. She never was one who liked guns. Mary was always too afraid to hold one. Her hands would never stop shaking. Eventually after a while they stopped trying to teach her.
Oliver saw Robert approach and looked up at him. Blinking a few times he stretched and nodded. "So I'm recruited to go with you. You didn't even ask me bro. Coulda been like, hey Oliver want to come with us to get supplies. I would have said yes." He smiled.
Oliver didn't know if he wanted to go. It wasn't that he didn't trust these people, or didn't like them. He just didn't really want to throw himself on the line for these people. He liked it here, it was safe.
"But yeah I'll come. I have nothing better to do. All my stuff better be here when I get back though," he said standing up. "And no I've never fired a gun, at least not that often. I have a club though, and a golf club I found. I can swing those."
He put his hands in the pocket of his hoodie. "So when we leaving mate?"

Wyatt smiled at Emyr. “Good and I know I can trust you.” Wyatt said with a wink and smile. Then he saw how Robert did as he asked and was getting everyone ready. Mary seemed to agree and was polite enough, but when he asked Oliver, the kid had to make a scene out of it. Wyatt rolled his eyes, but turned back to Emyr first. “Thanks already.” He said before heading over to the others.
He was right in time to hear Oliver say that he wasn’t even asked and telling things about how he didn’t want his stuff to be gone. “What we are thieves now?” Wyatt said stern looking at him. “No need to pull all the attention towards you, when we go on a supply run, the whole group get tasks, you are still here, outnumbered, so I guess you are part of the group, so yes then you take orders.” He said in the same tone. “That being said, let’s hand out the guns, give them a quick lesson and head out.” He said as he tried to change his tone into a bit more happy.
Robert caught the can Tall threw at him. "You want me to fill it before I leave, or want me to wait and fill it up on our run?" He raised a brow at her. "The campers may not have the same fuel as the SUV."
He turned his attention back to Mary and Oliver. "I'm not much of a shooter myself actually. I tend to use more melle weapons. That doesn't mean I can't shoot though. It's not hard, just aim, pull the trigger, watch the kickback. You'll catch on quickly. We don't want to use guns really anyway, they make much noise. Stick to your clubs and sticks, they'll work fine."
He listened to Wyatt on how he dealt with Oliver. Honestly Robrt just ignored it, he agreed to come, that was enough. "Do they need to know how to shoot? A knife or bat doesn't run out, and is easier to use. But if you think they need to know er can teach them. Want pistols, or rifels? Or something bigger?"
Tala grinned at Robert," fill it from the vehicles at the bar, and check the trunks of them, we didn't have time to grab stuff from them. Also, if you guys wanna just check the damage to them, may just need tires or something simple." Tala figured it didn't hurt to check them out, just incase. She glanced at Wyatt," don't worry about them shooting, load up and mount the fifty. Don't have to be a great shot with that, and use it as a last resort." She bent back over the hood," hey, if you guys find some spark plugs, could use those, everything else looks good."
She looked at Emyr," hey, come hold this light for me?" She held out the flashlight to him,as she got down and slid herself under the car. She called to him from underneath," aim it Down and over on your left, I wanna check the oil pan and shit."
Wyatt smiled at him, telling him that he knew he could trust him. He didn't want to get his hopes up or anything, he'd try his hardest but it didn't guarantee she'd be entirely safe. Something so simple had yet again got Emyr worked up when he hadn't needed to. Wyatt seemed pleased that he had not gone on and made a scene about it, something Oliver was currently doing, he'd expected it from him. Thinking about it, he wasn't sure if he'd ever actually made a scene, he didn't think he had, probably because he never had enough courage to do so.
Emyr was looking away into the distance when Tala called him, almost jumping when he heard her voice. "Oh, um, yeah." He rushed over and took hold of the light, aiming it where she asked. She said something about checking an oil pan, not that he really understood. "Oh, okay." He liked this job, very simple and requiring little effort, he was glad to be chosen for this.

Wyatt listened to Robert as he asked about the shooting. ‘The man has got a point.’ Wyatt thought. “Well you are right, I just wanted them to have a gun, in case there is a struggle in a battle, that way they can at least shoot, plus what if we are fighting people instead of bandits?” Wyatt asked stern. “Not sure if a melee weapon will help then.” He added.
He shook his head and sighed. “Maybe it’s just me, maybe I’m too worried about what could happen.” He said as he looked down. “But can you blame me?” he asked looking back up. “Anyways let’s just go, but please watch each other, I don’t like to lose people.” He said before walking closer to the ambulance. “Let’s go.” He added.
"Get gas and check the trunks," Robert said nodding, "sounds easy enough. You need anything else, tires, something like that?" He waited and looked at Oliver. "We can have someone on watch on top of the RV. Safer that way. All the guns are in the ambulance, we can decide when we get there."
He turne to Wyatt. "Let's head out." Climbing in the driver seat he pulled forward, back toward the bar. He waited for the others before he would leave. He looked at the others. "Let's keep safe out there, try not to waste the supllies."
Time was passing, but Tala was hardly noticing. She kept asking Emyr to hand her tools. She got out from under the car a couple times during the process. Her face had grease smudges and her once white tee shirt was filthy. The back covered with dirt and grass and the front looked like she was a regular grease monkey.
On one of her trips out from under, she grabbed a water bottle. Taking a few sips before handing it to Emyr," here." She was offering to share with him," shouldn't waste it." She knew they had water, but she still had that rationing mindset. Tala was a bit too relaxed at the moment. All this brought back memories. Part of the reason she got out from under for a few seconds. Being under there, she could almost smell her dads garage. She stared at the open hood and grinned at Em." So, what do you know about cars? I really need to change this oil. Wonder if they will find some." She ran her grimy hands on her jeans," alright, I going to climb back under and I want you to try to crank her, start her up." She doubted it would turn over without a jump, but she wanted to see and hear the engines reaction.
Tala got back down and slid herself back underneath the car. Her hand slipped out and fingers fluttered," hand me the socket wrench and screw driver, flat head, will ya?"
Emyr watched as the others left in his typical fashion, robot-like and wide eyed, that was typical of him. He didn't exactly say bye to them but that required talking and that was something he didn't really enjoy doing, so instead, he just stood there and remained silent. Time passed, he hadn't had much to do except hand Tala different tools. He didn't mind it though, it required little effort and was an easy job.
During one of Tala's trips up, she took some sips from a water bottle and then handed it to him to share. Emyr took the bottle and stared at it intently, was he going to take a drink out of the water bottle? Normally, any food or drink that other people had used first was a complete no go, it worried him. Taking a deep breath, he then took a drink from the bottle. His eyes widened, he held out the bottle for Tala to take back. "Wow." He stood surprised, never before had he done something like that. It felt good changing his typical routine for once.
Tala asked Emyr what he knew about cars, he already knew the answer, absolutely nothing. On his very first encounter with the group, the car he was in broke down right in front of them, that was probably because it was stolen and the fact that he had never learned to drive. He felt bad about not knowing much on vehicles. "I, uh, no." Emyr looked at the floor, embarassed. Although he knew almost nothing about cars, he still tried to start the car up and followed Tala's request. "Anything?"
Lastly, Tala called for some more tools. This caused Emyr to smile, his time with Tala had helped him discover the names of the tools. "Ah, I know this one!" Emyr said before handing them over.
Deep in the woods, a hooded walker, snarling beneath the fabric began making it's way past the trees. Almost knowing of it's purpose. With a target in front of him, he can smell fresh blood. Trying it's hardest to reach it, reaching out with it's bony hands, a mindless creature only good for times like this. As it reaches towards the destination, the target turns to look at it, Mason Ford, with a severed hand in it's possession. He sets the hand down before pulling out his good ole machete. Slicing the legs off of the rotter, he takes the hood off and throws the hand towards the road. Sending the rotter in it's direction.
Mason proceeds to light a cigarette as he leans up against a tree in wait. Checking to see if the plan is working he can see the rotter eating away at the hand, but a voice catches it's attention. "Bingo" he said to himself. The rotter began dragging its weight towards a woman under the car. That women is our beloved Lara Tala. Working on the car as she knows best while her sidekick, Emyr Jones seems distracted from the devilish act. Closer and closer it comes as she lye oblivious to what's coming at her. Mason sets out as the Rotter gets closer to it's prey. He throws the cigarette in the grass, without putting it out first and walks around the car as the rotter grabs onto Lara's hair about to munch on her flesh. But before it get's a taste, Mason pulls her by her legs and out from under the car where the rotter follow before getting it's head smashed in by Mason's boot. Blood splattering around the area he reels back before scraping the brains off of his foot and onto the concrete. Now awaiting the two's reaction of the very swift actions that just transpired.
Tala watched and stared up as she heard Emyr try to start the car. It clicked but did not turn over. She would definitely need to jump the damn thing when the others got back. Her arm was up inside the motor , working on tightening a bolt she had previously loosened.
She heard something, and looked up, bending her head a bit. It was too late. She started to pull her hand down, as she saw what it was. It crawled at her, hand grabbing a hand full of her hair. Her knife. She gripped her thigh, not there. She screamed Emyr's name as her hands worked to keep from being pulled towards the things mouth.
She kicked her legs!"Emyr! EMYR! Pull me out! For god's sake , pull me out!" And he did. She felt firm hands grab her ankles and yank her. Her arms banged against the engine. Bloody cuts ran down both arms. Back scraped the concrete. The thing clutched her hair and it came with her, as it pulled hair from her head. The light of day blinded her for a moment. Adrenaline fueled her and she rolled away , just as gore exploded. It flung at her, on half of her. She hadn't been quick enough. She struggled up and didn't even realize it hadn't been Emyr that saved her. She threw her arms around the male and hugged him, she kissed his lips, quick, friendly. Her eyes adjusting," Oh my god, Em, thank you, thought I was....." Her words stop as the face came into focus. The mouth, the nose, the eyes, not belonging to Emyr. She jerked back," who the fuck are you!" She backed up til her ass hit the hood forcing her to a seat.
Then he heard his name, then he heard it two more times. The screaming caught him off guard, causing to jump. Turning around to see Tala up and another man with her made him jump again. The man suddenly put down a walker, where did he or the walker even come from? A new survivor showing up was probably the thing he most feared. His heart was racing, his mouth wide open at the new man and Tala who seemed oblivious to the fact that it wasn't him.
Meanwhile Tala was getting friendly with "Emyr", he didn't really know how to act. Just standing there, frozen and unsure of what was going on. How had he been so stupid enough to allow that walker to get to her? She chose him to stay behind and help and he didn't even realise something important like that.
"I, that's." He didn't get to finish his sentence. Tala had realised by then that it was a complete stranger, another person. The few he had met so far weren't actually bad people but every time someone new came along, he always assumed they were bad. He had been lucky so far but he couldn't help but wonder if the new guy was going to be like that.
As the woman get's up, she immediately jumps at him with a hug and a kiss, as if he were this "Emyr" character. Who he assumes is the boy who wasn't paying attention. She jumps back, sitting down on the hood as she's in awe of not only kissing a complete stranger, but a complete stranger randomly appearing. Asking who he was, curious of his alignment in this world. He knows his alignment but it's important that she nor the boy does. He smiles before pulling a white towel out of his pocket and handing it to Lara.
"Apparently i'm a lucky guy. Not everyday you get a pretty girl kissing you on the lips? Do you always kiss strangers?Heh, it's ok, a kiss should be the least of your concerns. You were inches away from that rotters mouth, need to be careful. Lucky I came just in time to pull you out." he explained as he looks over to Emry then back at Lara. "So where are you and your boyfriend headed?" Things are falling in place for Mason. Step one is underway. Show time.
Tala say there staring at the man. Her back hurt, blood dripped down her hands. All she could think about was what had happened. She had come close, too close and was all caught up with living that she had kissed him. Him, not Em, like she thought. She glanced at Emyr, hearing him mumble something. She had a momentary flash of anger at him. Where the fuck was he? Didn't he hear her screaming? Just like that, it was gone. His face. Poor guy looked worried and a bit scared. Someone had done a number on this kid.
The stranger spoke and held out a rag for her. She hesitated, then took it," no, I don't!" She snapped a bit as she wiped the towel up her arms, she winced, just once." I thought you were him, sun blinded me for a second, that's all." She glanced at Emyr," ain't like that, we aren't together like that, we're friends." She didn't want to say too much. Sure this guy had saved her, but still, she wasn't gonna start volunteering information for him. Her spear was still leaning against the fender, she shifted and removed her ass from the front of the car. Tala held the rag out to him," thanks." The man looked alright, seemed friendly. For god sake he had helped her, he could have just let her be eaten," hey, so, you must have been close to hear me scream. Where you heading!" She sighed and glanced at Emyr," I'm Tala and this is Emyr, and you are?" He was still close, he hadn't really moved, but he didn't look dangerous.
He looked back down at the floor when Tala glanced at him, like a sad puppy when he knew he'd done something wrong. He almost let her die, he should have been more aware, why wasn't he more aware? He'd heard the screaming, just not acted as soon as he could have, letting some random person get her to safety before he could. It was all going so well until this. Next time he'd do better, well, he'd try to do better.
Emyr watched as the new guy handed over a white towel to Tala, not only had this guy gone and saved her, he also provided a towel for the guts that had splashed over Tala. He seemed like a good guy, but Emyr remained anxious, this was how he always felt around new people. The guy wanted to know where the two were headed, he referred to him as Tala's boyfriend, causing Emyr to shake his head. It was completely absurd for him to imagine himself with a girlfriend, he'd never had one before, that was mainly due to the fact that he was too shy and they would always make fun of him. Other than that, he didn't think too much of it, Tala quickly shot that idea down, explaining that they were just friends. Emyr looked at Tala when she said it. Friend? These people are my friends? I've never had a friend, well, not since elementary school. Wow, I've got friends. Emyr got excited over something so ordinary, it had never before happened to him.
"Yes, I'm Emyr." He didn't know what came over himself, he just said it. Although he spoke up, he still didn't really know how to handle the guy, so let Tala take the lead.
Mason places the the dirty towel in the front pocket of his bag before answering her Tala's question of where he is headed. "Ya know, I haven't really figured that out just yet. Was just seeing where the road took me and now here I am." He explained in the nicest manner he could considering the two seemed weary of a stranger showing up at a time like this. He then turned and looked at Emyr speaking about being called friend and smiled, as if he was an elderly man showing a youngster some wisdom without saying a word.
"Man I am beat from traveling. More importantly, I am hungry. I have some MRE's in my bag. Would you and your son like to eat lunch with me? Maybe we could learn more about each other over a delightful meal of biscuits and gravy?" He asked. Not too worried if he's coming on strong or not, he just saved the woman from a rotter when the boy should of been looking, not to mention getting a kiss from the girl at the first glimpse of her face. Things are under his control now, and he knows just how to manipulate things from here on out.
Would you and your son like to eat lunch with me? That's what he had said. Tala just stared at him. He still didn't give his name, and who would ever in their right mind think she was old enough to be Emyr's mom?
She glanced at Em and shrugged, 'You can go eat if you want, we need to take a break while I take care of these scrapes, anyway." She glanced down at what was left of the dead thing , then the ground by the car. She didn't know if she could crawl back under there right now, anyway. The thought of food made her want to throw up, right now, to be honest, but she didn't say that. It would be rude and he did save her life and all.
She looked at Mason, then pointed to the RV, "I am gonna go clean up, but there are chairs and running water if you want to get a drink or fill up any bottles you have, you're welcome to it,least I can do ." She glanced at Em, making sure he was going to be alright, then grabbed her spear and headed towards the RV.
Shauna Kelly: That helped, thank you
