Abby felt him take her hand and she smiled. He really wanted to spend some time with her. She nodded," alright, I'll be right back." She went in and ran up the stairs. She changed her shoes and grabbed a jacket. As she came back down, she grabbed his jacket from the living room. It didn't take her long, but she did hesitate at the front door. Her bat was propped up in the corner and she thought about taking it, then decided against it.
She went out and headed for the gate to meet him. He was there waiting for her. She handed him his jacket and looked around," alright, so a walk, are we talking? Is something wrong?" She wondered why he wanted to do this. It wasn't really like him, but he had been changing, with the baby coming and all.

Max took the jacket when he saw Abby there. Slipping it on he flexed his fingers on the once broken hand. It had healed nicely, he had babied it for a while, not wanting to injure it again. He looked at Abby again with a smile. His hand took hers and watched as Memphis opened the gate. He went to step through but stopped.
"You warm enough, it's colder outside the gates," Max said with a smile. He did up his zipper, tugging the jacket tight. "Let's go," he said leading her out of the gate.
He walked along the fence with her. "I figured we would just talk, we haven't seen each other in a while, you know alone. Sure every night, and in the mornings, but I just wante to spend time with you. Is that so bad, you're carrying our child, I can talk. There's nothing wrong, just a chat."
Abby. Hesitated as she followed him through the gate. It had been months since she had been outside the safety of the farm. Well, it was t like they were going more than a little walk away from the fence, but still, it made her nervous. She had more than herself to think about now.
Abby smiled at him and rubbed a hand over her little baby bump, " we are fine, I'm not cold." She looked at him," a chat." Abby chuckled softly. It was amusing him being the one who wanted to talk, he usually groaned when she brought up talking. He was right though. Besides sleeping in the same bed, they hadn't spent a lot of time together. She squeezed his hand," we've both been so tired, and you've been healing." She didn't mind, really, it was nice to just have him next to her each night.

"Good, it's getting colder and colder each day," Max said nodding along with her. "We will need more winter coats and firewood. I'm thinking of assigning people to getting firewood, maybe a daily thing. It will be risky but it needs to be done so we are stocked for winter. We need to keep everyone warm and fed through the snow."
He swung her hand a bit as they walked. "Yeah a chat. I've been so busy organizig everything with Amber. I know you've been busy too, we all have. We need another time for all of us to relax, take one day off. Everyone needs to relax, even for a short little bit, spend time like we are."
He veered off toward the left, toward the woods. He still held her hands. "I want to check a few traps while we are out here, is that okay?"
Abby was a little surprised to hear him planning ahead. He didn't even want to stay at first, well, wasn't sure how long he wanted to stay, in the beginning. She listened and then ,nodded," we need to be smart about it, each team should have cutters and guards." She glanced at him," I left my bat at the house, if we are quick, it should be alright, I think." She looked confident, but her voice wavered, just a bit.
Abby hadn't left the farm in months. Brian was always checking on her and maybe all the fuss had made her a bit paranoid. She was pregnant, not an invalid. It worried her though, she didn't take risks like before, she had to think about someone else, and not just herself now. She knew she was with Max and he would keep her safe though. She stared at the woods as they headed towards them. She hadn't been in them since he had gone after him and come back with Tyler.

"Yeah, though between runners and guards we are running out of people who can shoot. People need training, the ones Thad came with have s start, but no enough. We need strong shots." Since Charles leaving Max really felt the need to step up. He needed to be a voice, not just a presence. If he didn't make calls no one would.
"You can take my knife if you want," he said pointing to his belt. "I don't plan on going far in, just away from everyone."
His hand let go of hers and his arm wrapped around her back. They were away from the fence, far enougb in they could still see it but we're alone. He kissd here, deeply, pulling her in.
When he broke it he grinned his usual grin. "We should get married Allstar," he said kissing her again. Breaching into his pocket he pulled out a ring, dangled it before her on a chain.
Abby felt him let go of her hand. First she worried she had said something wrong, gave him more to worry about. Then she felt him slip his arm around her, and it calmed that fear. She glanced back as he spoke about not wanting to go too far, just away from everyone. She was about to ask why, the. He kissed her.
Abby melted to him. Sure they shared a room, but he hadn't kissed her like this in a little while. There was a need in his kiss, a desire she worried was lost. She kissed him back and wrapped her arms around him. He broke the kiss and called her Allstar. She looked up and the. As he finished and dangled the chain before her, she stepped back. The ring on the chain was lovely. The whole thing shocked her to her core. She froze and stared, mouth slightly gaped open. Yes! She wanted to say yes, but her mouth didn't work. Her eyes stared into those baby blues and she couldn't believe this was happening. She never thought this would ever happen to her, not since the world went to hell.
Wait, he didn't ask her to Marry him. He said they should get married. Abby locked her lips and stared at the ring dangling before her. " because you knocked me up?" She mumbled softly, and then took the chain from his finger. Abby stared at it," you don't have to do this, Max. We don't know how this will even turn out. We live in a world without guarantees anymore. I think the old way of , if you knock her up, you should marry her is over." She handed him back the chain." I fell for you a long time ago. Grump ass that you can be, and I love you, but you don't need to do this." She looked up at him and smiled," I don't think we have to follow a protocol anymore. Everyone ," she pointed back to the farm," knows you're the father, and they are t giving you grief about us not being together, or our age difference, are they?" She stared at his face," I mean , no one said anything like that to me." Abby wondered why, if people were saying something, he should have told her. Her emotions ran hot, hormones were in overdrive." And if they are, they should mind their own damn business."

Max looked at her, then the ground. He turned his gaze back to her, his am still around her. It wasn't the reaction he expected, never was with her. That's why he liked her. They clicked. Usually he wouldn't give a dam about all this sappy stuff, but it was different, different than an before.
"Why do you think every thing I do is because I knocked you up? You think that's the reason I'm here now? Why I stayed, why I'm doing this? Don't you think I care for you, love you. I've been with you longer than I have anyone, ever. Even before this, you've changed me. It's not just because of our child either. It wouldn't be any different, even if you weren't pregnant. I'd still be asking the question, by your side each night. No one said shit to me, there's norhing making me do this. I know they know we are together, I have nothing to prove. The only reason I'm doing this is you, not our baby, not anyone else and their opinion, just you." He flipped the ring up in his hand clasping it in fist. "I love you abby, but I want to see you are mine, even more. There's a priest here, I see no downside. You give me hope, I need that. I love everything about you, what you changed in me, all this. They fact that you question a proposal and don't just go all mushy allstar. So shit Abby, I'm not going to drop to one knee but say yes. Just shut up and say yes."
He looked away, "I need hope in this world. I want to call you my wife, not just the mother of my child. I want to be more. More than just with you, more than just the father of our child. I want to marry you abby, so marry me."
Abby stared at him. He seemed to be saying everything from his soul. He loved her, it wasn't about the baby, or the others. He was here because of her, and doing this because of his feelings for her.
Her eyes caught his intoxicating blues and she couldn't help but smile. He loved the way she questioned him. He didn't mind their age difference, and said she gave him hope. He made her feel alive. In this world, romantic notions no longer seemed to exist. Truth, was the best part of intimacy . Abby nodded," alright then." She felt his arm around her," this is a one way street, you know." She kissed him," no getting rid of me later." Abby smiled at him, and flattened her hand on his chest," I didn't want to push, to have any expectations of, that seemed wrong for me to do, cause of the way we all have to love." She was trying to explain," love is a heavy word, Max. And I am yours, I've been yours." She kissed him again," the preacher got you thinking about all this, him showing up and all that." Abby didn't doubt he cared for her, or his spoken reasons, it was her way of rationalizing, was all.

"Of course Allstar, I'm not going any where. All we've been through now, I wouldn't dream of leaving you, not now, or ever. We click, I like that," Max said smiling. "nothing has to change, we can go about it the same way. Only difference is I get to call you my wife. I like the sound of that, Mrs. Abby Rivers." He smiled at the kiss, pulling her as close as he could.
Taking her hand again he looked at the fence. "Let's get going back. We've been out here long enough." He started to walk back. "Actually I was thinking about it before the preacher showed up. It doesn't even have to be official. You where a ring, and I call you my wife." He laughed a little, "make me feel proud, having a wife you know. Something I never thought I'd do. But you abby, you've changed me. Thank you."
Abby laughed," you make it sound like , you want to own me, or something. Take pride in calling me your wife, like you would take pride in owning a prize Thorobreds. " she chuckled as she let him lead her back to the fence." Or is it more like, you want to make sure you're the only one who gets to ride this horse, hm?" Abby grinned at him as they walked. She enjoyed teasing him, playing with him. Abby looked at the fence," well, give it here, if you want me to wear it." She held her hand up for him to slide the ring on her finger. What if it didn't fit? She had no idea what her ring size even was." When did you get it? " she glanced at him," I mean, I don't think this is a normal supply run item."

"It's not like that," Max said witha sigh, "well maybe more of the last one. I've seen the way they've been looking at you, can't have that now can we." He smirked at her to show he was just playing. "No it was more the fact that people said I'd neer have this growing up. No mom, dad, raised by my older brother. I grew up in the back woods, or on the streets with gangs and drug dealers. No one was really family material. So here I am, girl by my side who isn't addicted to crack a hooker. So yeah, I'm proud. Plus you make me happy, happier than I've been in a long time."
She asked for the ring and he almost forgot about it. Unclenching his hand he handed it over on the chain. He didn't know if it would fit, but it was small, Abby had smaller hands. He undid the chain and slid it on her finger. "Does it fit, not to snug." He smiled, "why I had it on the chain, can at least keep it there and not loose it."
He smiled, "as for where I got it, it was a special run. You don't think I just stumbled upon it, and decided hey fuck it, Abby would like it. No while in a city, on a run. Amber and I stopped at a mansion big house. Some rich bitch owned it, picture of her and her dog on the wall. It was in some jewlery box, in the main room. It was the only one that looked like it would fit."
Abby took the sing and held it, she slid it off the chain. Slowly she slipped it on her finger, then stopped. It was caught right at her knuckle. She pulled it back off and then stuck her finger in her mouth to wet it. Abby slid the ring back up her finger and with a little push it went over her knuckle. It fit, not too tight. She held up her hand for Max to see." Actually, it sorta fits." She grinned at him," can't wait to show this to Sarah." She paused," so Amber knew about this. Who else?" She now was curious who had kept this secret from her.
Abby smiled at him,"so, guess I'm yours now." She chuckled a bit nervously.

Max watched her try and slip it on, the ring not really fitting. He was about to curse under his breath when he watched her wetter it before slipping it on again. "It fits," he asked, "we can find another one, or something else of value to wear. Doesn't have to be a ring, don't even have to wear it. As long as you know you're my wife." He smirked at the last part.
As they walked into the gate he looked around. He rubbed along his upper leg, sore from all the walking. "Uh only Amber knew. She had kept it a secret, she's good at that. We went alone, to pick it out I guess. It was a covert run, but I didn't want to go alone." He chuckled, "she was the one that said it would most likely fit, guess it does."
He smield again. As she chuckles nervously he wrapped his arm around her. "Yeah figure we are. Though the last five or six months we've been together too. I figured it was about time I maned up and made it official."
Abby liked the feel of the weight on her hand , it surprised her that she would. She followed him through the gate and then paused right before the porch." Maybe I shouldn't go showing it off or anything," she glanced at the tower." There are a lot of people here who aren't as happy as us, right now." She wanted to go and tell Sarah , show her the ring, but she was missing Charles and her wounds are still fresh." She smiled at him, hoping he would understand. She was happy, but didn't want her happiness to bring other people pain.
"Besides, I've been slacking, walking off with you when I had chores to do." She playfully nudged his arm, and stepped up onto the step. Abby leaned closer to him," we can seal this deal after lights out tonight." She grinned and wagled her eyebrows at him, teasing and hinting at what she meant.

"I don't think they would care. To be honest I think some of them think we already are married," he said with a grin, "but you're right. After what happened to Sarah, though months ago, it still wouldn't be fare. And with what's going on with Thad and Becky." He looked down. "I'd wear it, but don't flaunt it, know what I mean?"
He leaned agaisnt the railing of the porch. "As for the chores, I don't think anyone else has started yet, so you should be good. You are making flour right? Better get to cranking, work on those guns." He smiled, "I think I have to relieve Thad on the tower, or should relieve him. So see you around." He smirked.
As she mentioned the last part he laughed. "Of course, that's the best part of getting married. Can't turn away from that now. It's our wedding night, how can you say no."
She stared at him and her mouth dropped open as he said the last. It was loud enough Brian and Louis could hear him. Wedding night! Did he have to say it like that? She shook her head and marched up the porch. She glanced at Brian and Louis, "Not a word." She didn't want this going all over the camp. She opened the door and paused, 'Louis, we working that grain, right? Where's Sarah?"
Abby felt bad, like she had shirked her duty to have some time with Max. People might not like that. She glanced at Brian, and just stared at his face for a moment. She found it hard to believe he hadn't known about it. He was Max's best friend, after all.
She went in and took of her jacket , then headed to the kitchen. She needed to stop worrying about this. She was getting paranoid. She hadn't had any meds in almost 2 years, and had done fine, right? She took a deep breath then exhaled, going into the kitchen. She found Sarah surrounded by baskets. 'So, what's the plan?" She asked her as she went in, avoiding eye contact with her.
"Of course," Brian said with laugh, "my lips are sealed. Congrats though." He smiled and leaned back.
Louis looked at her and nodded. "Yes I won't say anything, though I doubt it will be a secret for long." He smiled and watched Abby.
Brian moved over to the porch bench and Louis inside with Abby. In the kitchen he listened to the two girls before speaking. "Okay so I don't know much about this, but it seems wheat goes in one end, we crank and crank, and then flour comes out. From there we will make bread and other thind later."
Margret came in, the smiley redheads farm wife. "Louis is right, I will help you all walk through it. Never had one of my own, but my mother did. I used to watch her as a child." She whiped her hands on her appron. "We need one more person to help us. Two on each crank, and I'll supuervise."
Sarah dropped the rag in the sink and turned as Abby spoke to her." Well, honestly, waiting, because I have no idea." She smiled at Abby and Louis. Louis spoke up and she nodded , but was relieved when Margaret came In to help them. She sounded like she had a plan and could at least guide the. Through this. She said they needed one more," where's Jay?" She looked at Louis," I got the jars washed and draining, I haven't seen him since I told him to tell you about them."
Sarah dried her hands," I can work with Jay and Louis and Abby, that sound alright?" She seemed fine, not upset after her talk with Thad or anything, but Sarah had gotten good at hiding her feelings lately.

Jay, after setting the box down int he kitchen, had walked outside and towards the edge of the woods and sat, his sword in his lap. He was leaning against a tree, eyes trailing up and down the tree line before looking up at the sky, watching as the clouds roll by. He lets out a sigh before scratching the back of his head. What will he do now? He wanted to go on runs or at least help out more. Of course though, he had a feeling that some of the adults only think of him as a kid and nothing more.
