Bethany stood back away from the three men as she watched them debate about Darius' injuries. The man named Cory and Thad seemed to be the only ones that were no worse for wear, considering she had just been shot, even though the wound was hardly life-threatening. She looked over her shoulder towards the doors, then back to the small group. In the distance, she could see movement. Shadows that seemed to be positioning themselves for a final ambush.
"Thad, we need to go. We have to get out of here. There's more of them." When the decision was made to leave Darius behind, she groaned and slid a gun to him. "Do what you have to do, man." Either he could fight back and die that way or just take his own life.
They ran out and she took the front seat, leaning back as she kept the pressure on the graze to her arm. The man they rescued went into the back seat and without even looking back at him, she spoke as Thad started her car and took off through the empty parking lot.
"So what was that? Who were those people and why did they take you hostage?"
Cory could see the blood in the bask of Darius's shirt as they left. He was right, he was dying. Somewhere he had gotten shot and was slowly bleeding out to death. Dane was dead, Cory was all that survived. If Thad hadn't came back, he would have been dead too. Thad, and the girl, they save him.
Cory slid in the back of the car as Thad started it. He heard the shot and flinched. Came from no where, but he knew what it was. Cory always thought that was the true reason everyone carried pistols at the church. You get caught or bit, just end it quick.
The girl spoke and Thad didn't answer, just drove on in silence. So Cory did. He cleared his throat and spoke up. "We don't know who they are. Only ever saw them today. They came from no where though. Jumped us, out numbered. The only reason they had us hostage is because they knew we had others. I don't know how, but they did. Something about seeing us go by the mall, with Garret and Jack a few days before. They wanted to know where we all were hiding, and killed Dane because of it. If you didn't show up, I'd have been next. I don't think there's more of them, the ones you killed were all the ones that Attacked us. If there is anyone left the noise will draw a hoarde or something. Let's hope we're lucky."
Bethany looked down at her arm before wrapping it up a little tighter. In a few days it would be better, but she knew the wound would get worse, or at least feel worse, before that happened. She turned her head slightly as Cory spoke before turning her gaze back to the road.
"Bandits I would suspect then. Probably looking for more supplies or people to raid. There were more we left behind and I wouldn't doubt it if they were going to try and follow us. I doubt they would have killed you if they were desperate."
She didn't really want to think about what would have happened to the kid if they were left behind though. They would have to be on high alert.
"Where do we go from the Cathedral now? Where are we headed?"
"You think they are following us now," Cory asked shifting I nn his seat. He turned to look out the window, there were no cars or trucks following them. He didn't see anything. "Maybe we got lucky and they lost us. We left pretty fast, and they have to deal with their dead. We should defiently keep an eye out though, If they come back, we can handle it as a bigger group."
He turned back around and looked at Bethany and Thaddeus, who was still looking straight ahead. He looked at Beth's arm. "You going to be okay? Not bleeding out or anything like that any time soon are you? We have bandages at the church, and disinfectant."
He looks out the window again. "From what we were told this place is a farm, with walls all around it. It has food, water, and more people. It's a safe place. There's a doctor too, and supplies all around. It's supposed to be safe, or safe so far. They haven't had many walkers. It's in the middle of nowhere, secluded and in an treed in area.
Bethany looked in the mirror to her left before turning around and looking out the windows. She held on to her arm and looked back at Cory who seemed to be no worse for wear.
"Yea, I'm fine. I just need to clean it out and bandage it up. It grazed but didn't penetrate."
She sat back in the seat as the very silent Thad kept driving her car. She didn't believe they weren't being tailed in some capacity and it made her eyes open wider at the possibility they could be facing more danger. She had faced plenty of danger on the road running but it seemed only recently had things gotten worse between the living. Bad people did bad things. Good people did bad things. Most people wound up dead in some form or another.
"Safe? I just hope that feeling of being safe doesn't make them lazy. Nothing is safe, no matter what. There's plenty of walkers to go around and most have left the big cities. Big farms in the middle of nowhere are next."
