Cade heard the call and rushed out of the building. Having gotten dark he stumbled along the truck to his bow. Pulling it out he readie and arrow. Cade could make out a shape stumbling towards the bar, beside the buidling he came out of. Getting low he pressed himself up agaisnt the truck and watched the little figure move forward.
In the distance, as Cade's eyes adjusted he could make out another shape. The moon casted just enough light to show the man's hoodie. Cade recognized who he was, one of Acer'a men. The man never took off the thing.
Cade readied an arrow and pulled it back. In a flash it shot out and hit the man in the back. He watched him fall. Running up Cade looked at the dying man. "Paulie, didn't know you'd be here. Spying on us, or did you lead that person here? You know we don't like spies. Ecspecially not Acer's." Cade quickly jabbed the arrow in the man's head and rippe it out. As he stepped back he smiled. Putting his bow away the man quickly returned to Collette.
Coming in he saw the little girl. "Collette, can I have a wor with you, in the other room?"
Leigh stood stunned as the door opened and no words were said to her. Instead, a woman issued commands to the others to take her in and search for weapons and bites. Thankfully, she hadn't brought any weapons with her. Getting in was easier than she thought, which was nice. What wasn't nice, though, was when Leigh noticed a man return, bloody arrow in hand. He'd been coming back from where Paulie had been, and there'd been only one logical solution. He'd killed him. Shit, shit shit.
"I...you...killed him! What the fuck!?" Leigh's voice cracked on the last word, and for some reason tears formed in her eyes, despite the fact that she hadn't known Paulie well. She hadn't known much about him, but he'd been friends with the guy who was scouting out the other group, Jackson. Jackson was going to be angry. It was only then Leigh's body went numb, revealing that she had given away that she was definitely associated with Paulie and, by extension, Acer and Jackson and their whole group.

Colette stood and watched as the two women were about to search the kid. She was waiting patiently, about to ask the kid her name.
That was when Cade came in. She took him in with her eyes, his face . She knew that face. He asked for a word with her and she nodded." Alright." She moved a step and that was when the girl let loose. Colette listened and looked at Cade," killed who? What's going on?" She stared at the kid, something was off with this whole thing." Who are you?" Colettes voice was rigid, as she spoke. She glanced over at Cade," explain, now!"
Leigh had fucked up, and there was nothing she could do. She couldn't outrun them, she couldn't fight them. She stood gawking at her own mistake, her outburst. She hadn't even known Paulie that well, and yet she'd liked him because he had never been mean to her like so many of Acer's men had been. That's what it was. He hadn't been mean to her. But what would happen once she came clean? Would they just kill her? They had no problem killing Acer's people, since they killed Paulie. Take her prisoner? What if they were worse than Acer? No point in worrying about it, Leigh decided, she had better come clean.
"My name's Leigh Anne...Acer sent me. To spy. Get inside, figure stuff out, and report back. That's all I was told..." Leigh looked around at the new faces around her, her anger quickly replaced with fear.
"Please don't hurt me..." was all she could get out as she backed away in fear. She wouldn't run, it would do no good.

...And thus we hold, in the style of Kant, that men ought to treat others as they are themselves--as men, rather than tools or enemies. When we as men begin to see others as extensions of ourselves and a society that once was, rather than competition for resources, we will be able to rebuild.
Clayton Dumont gently lowered the pen and removed his glasses, examining the entire essay he'd just written. Calling it an essay was misleading--it was a book, a collection of essays. You could take the man out of the university, but not the university out of the man. Writing had always been his passion--writing essays, specifically. Treatises. Clayton had been a published writer, a noted political philosopher back when he taught and researched in Washington DC. He held that same passion, but now dedicated it to formulating a manifesto on how humans ought to rebuild. Drawing upon his vast knowledge of history and politics, Clayton had just finished yet another section of his work when he heard the knock.
He froze at his desk. Knocking was uncommon this time of night. Colette or Arcade would take care of it, but what if it was an ambush? What if Acer's men had finally shown up, or what if that new group wanted trouble?
Within moments, Clayton's fears were quelled, in a sense, anyways, as he heard the voice of a little girl--shouts. Someone had killed someone. Christ. Without grabbing his Baretta, he quickly descended the stairs and saw the scene at hand. Arcade held an arrow coated in blood, while Colette was interrogating the girl--Acer's girl, Clayton now recognized. He'd heard her say she was attempting to spy on them, and Clayton had known Acer was employing a young girl in his service.
Clayton descended the stairs and looked around the room. He was the oldest one there, but that did not help his obvious concern. "This is Acer's girl. Why is she here? What's she doing?" He knew that none of his own people knew the answer to his questions beyond what the girl had just admitted, but he wanted some kind of explanation for the situation as a whole as well. His eyes darted from Colette to Arcade, widening with each passing second. He began picking his nails nervously before finally looking once again to the little girl.

Arcade looked at Collette but quickly looked away. As the girl went off saying he killed someone he just glared at her. Tiring back to Collette he took a deep breath.
"I saw one of Acerd men. He was spying on us, escorted that girl here. Think his name was Billy, or Peter or something. He was the guy always in the hoodie with a knife. I acted, saw movement and fired. You know dam well Acer would have done the exact same to us. If any of us were caught spying he'd kill us and use us as gator bait. I eliminated a spy, end of story. The guys dead. Obviously I'm not going to kill the little girl, but that man, yeah he's dead."
Clayton's eyes were bulging out of his head at this point. Arcade was reckless, Clayton had known that, but this took things to a new level entirely. After regaining a small amount of composure, he spoke. His voice was calmer now that he had a moment, but the anger was certainly there. "You killed one of Acer's men. Do you understand that your actions have consequences? This could incite a conflict--an armed conflict. Do you think before you act, Arcade? You needn't answer, obviously you do not."

Colette stared at the child. She had sworn an oath to protect children, back when she was a social worker. A full year of her life and it seemed like centuries ago now. With her father's death, that life and side of her had died, been replaced by the bar and all those within in. Then the dead came and threw all that away, well, most of it. Her life was still about those in her bar, and right now the child was in her bar.
She saw how scared the girl was and her face softened slightly." Relax, I'm not Acer , I'm not gonna have anyone hurt you." She spoke to the girl, calmly. She heard Cade and glanced at him. He wouldn't have hurt a kid, she knew that. She also heard Clay and knew he was right as well." I will handle it." She smirked," It proves my point, Acer is nervous about us and this new group of he is sending her in as a spy. He probably won't care about the man, he doesn't seem to care about his people very much at all, other than what they can do for him."
She looked at Clay," we are meeting the new arrivals at dawn, that's already planned, he is too late, she won't be going back, he won't get the news in time." She smiled at the kid,"will he?"
"You don't think I don't fucking know the consequences Clay? I do trust me. But I know he would have done the exact same to us. Had I or Desi been caught spying he would kill us then use us as bait. I at least had the decency to leave the dead. Acer may be pissed but I honestly think he won't care. I knew that he would do much worse to us, and I wasn't going to let him have the upper hand," Cade said to the man, "I didn't see you acting on it. What do you even do here, when's the last time you scavenged or went on guard." Rage was boiling in him, the two bit suit Wester was pissing him off.
He looked back at the girl. "If she's Acer's I say we throw her out. We won't kill or harm her, but she can find her own way back. Let her stay the night and we can drop her on the way to Acer's on the way to meet the new group. That's the very most we can do. We can't risk her telling him anything," he looked at the little girl.
"How long have you been with Acer? And do you like him? He's not a nice man, he will hurt you eventually. How old are you, eleven? Twelve? Wait four or five years and you'll be up on the third floor, any woman who goes near him ends up there."
Clayton clenched his jaw at being called "Clay." He hated the nickname. Clay was soft, malleable and easily morphed. These were not qualities that Clayton considered himself to have. But he did not want to provoke argument so he remained quiet on that front.
"You don't think I do enough? Let me accompany Colette tomorrow, to negotiate with the new group in town. I can even put together a contract. If they've got anyone with a taste for that sort of thing, we'll be in luck." Clayton looked around the room for some sort of affirmation before continuing, this time a sense of urgency in his voice.
"You say Acer is not a nice man, but you want to turn her loose back to him?" There was a look of bafflement on his face. "If she comes back saying we turned her down and killed one of his men, what do you think he'll do to her? And to us? No, we should keep her. Make Acer think we fell for his ploy."

Leigh looked from person to person. The two guys didn't seem to get along--Clayton and...Arcade? That was a weird name. Clay and Cade. Had an okay ring to it, though. The other woman, Colette, seemed to be keen on keeping Leigh with them, and Clayton did too. Arcade wanted to throw her out, which immediately made him her least favorite. That, and the fact that he'd killed Paulie. Paulie and Jackson had been close. If Jackson discovered who killed Paulie, he'd...oh, god. That would not be good. Leigh couldn't stand to think about that. No doubt the golf club would come out.
She shook her head free of the thoughts before finally responding to Colette. "Uh, no...he won't...uh, yeah. He won't know anything..." She was puzzled. If they weren't going to hurt her, what were they going to do? Keep her safe and without fear of ever being hurt or...yeah, hurt? The thought was nice, but Leigh wasn't sure. Arcade seemed brash and unpredictable, and not too kind. Clayton seemed reasonable, but not overly nice either, and very...boring. Colette seemed to be the nicest, but it could just be an act to gain Leigh's trust. Maybe this was all an act, and Colette and Clayton were as bad as Arcade and they were all worse than Acer?
