Remy stopped as Aron spoke, trying to keep her head from thinking any thoughts about Luca getting killed. She would not let that happen, no matter what. Neither one of them really understood the depths of her relationship with Luca. Hell, she barely understood it, but if was one thing she knew, she would not let him die. She was fairly certain, from his voice back in Oklahoma when he begged Anthony to go protect her, that he felt the same way about her. HIs words from back in the cabin rang loudly, like church bells, in her mind. "It's just you and me." She clenched her jaw as she looked at Aron and spoke in a tone that was gravely serious.
"No, he wouldn't have been killed. I would have made sure of that. Ain't no one killing Luca. Or even threatening to."
However, when Andrei intervened with his own thoughts, she turned back to him to answer to everything he was spouting off to her.
"I know you didn't have nothing to do with Dexter. I already told you that I wouldn't have let Luca kill you or your new friend here. Yea, I admit he's a live wire. He's got a past and I already know about it. It ain't none of anyone's business what that past is either. He wanted to save me from Adolphus. He wanted to save all of us from him."
She was doing everything she could to keep from becoming her own live wire and Andrei's manaical laughter only provoked her further. He should have known better. He had his own past too and his own sins that he had to live with. When he scribbled on the pad of paper with the list of emotions he presumed she was about to go through, she wadded it up and threw it at his feet.
"Your psychology bullshit means nothing anymore, Andrei. We do what we have to do to stay alive. You can't tell me you've done anything worse then he has." Which, already knowing what Luca has done, was a load of shit and she knew it. Andrei was trying to be valiant. Luca was just being violent. But she also knew pack mentality and Luca was no longer with that pack. He was with her and she truly believed she could keep that beast in him under wraps. Then if clicked with her as she slowed her mind down and she presented a different angle to all this.
"Look, whatever your thoughts are on him don't matter. Whatever you think about my thoughts about him, don't matter. I don't know why you're even trying to make me think twice about him anyways. If he's truly this monster like you both think he is, then he'll show his true colors eventually and that will be my problem. Not yours, MINE. But I trust him. Me and him...we've...." She stopped herself before she revealed anything more about what has transpired between them. He followed her each time she ran away. He knew she wanted to venture out in this world alone and forget any connections she had, but he wouldn't let her. He was there to make sure she wasn't going at this alone and it took a long time, but she was finally coming around to it.
"You think he's dangerous? You think he's going to try and kill you in the night? I saw you're wrong. You're wrong about him. I would take a bullet for him, Andrei and I wouldn't say that for anyone. You trusted me once...at least, I thought you did. You know me. You know I wouldn't say things like that for just anyone. He is exactly the man I think he is. You? You weren't. What you told me you did..."
She shook her head and turned back towards the door. Her heart was racing and she felt herself getting far too worked up over this. She didn't have to explain anything to anyone about how she felt about Luca. There was no reason she had to justify anything, in her mind. She got them here and now they were safe, at least for the time being. There was food and there were beds. If people didn't like it or trust it, they knew they could leave. But she knew Luca was staying. There were no promises made about that. It was what he wanted to do.
"The sun is setting. You should lock yourselves up and be safe. I can get you a map to the marina in the morning or show you how to get back to the interstate." She paused for a moment before continuing. "And you should stop trying to convince me that Luca is a monster because we're all monsters."
