Ash's smile usually made Dakota smile too, and it didn't fail this time either. She took to heart the idea of still finding some haven or making one if they had to. She gave Ash one more hug as Shadow came on over, letting go, Koda knelt down to hug the husky around the neck. She scruffed the husky's double coat up down the dog's sides, and took Ash's reassurances as her own to give Shadow, ”Don't you worry, Shadow. You heard Papa Bear. We'll find somewhere for all of us.”
Dakota rubbed the huskie's sides awhile longer before she got up, and patted his head and ears. She came back toward the others, looking in brighter spirits than when she left in trouble. She did stop before Tori though, and briefly cast her hazel gaze to her feet. She shuffled her sneakers a little, ”I'm sorry, Tori. I didn't mean to worry you either.”
She offered and gave Tori a quick hug, before darting back to join Clem in the RV. Koda would get to work on a Jack-o-melon to start coloring. She was slow to get in the spirit, but the longer she colored in the watermelon with a colored in carved smiling face, the more enthused her crayon strokes grew. After a couple minutes Dakota leaned over and whispered something to Clementine. The two girls giggled, and on a silent count of three, they chanted together.
Richard watched as the others returned from behind the RV. He nodded towards Ash as Dakota sprinted inside the RV. He gripped the strap of his backpack, glancing up towards the setting sun, if they were going to leave for the tunnel, then they probably would want to do it in due time. "Let's get this over with."
Tori looked over to see Dakota come out of the RV. That didn't look like the face of someone who was scolded. Or maybe she liked scolding? Nah, no kid like being scolded. That was like enjoying being inside all day staring at the wall. What kind of kid was that? Tori noticed her changed stance when she approached and folded her arms. Those arms soon unfolded after hearing the apology, and before she could answer she was caught deep in a hug. Sneaky hug demons. They were tricky. Tori patted her on the back.
“It's okay. Just don't do it again.”
How was you supposed to stay mad after that? Damn kids knowing how to use their cuteness. Then when they grew up they used their sexiness. The horror! Growing up. Fond and not so fond memories started spinning in Tori's head. That made her think about Lee. The baby in their care. The kind of world he had to grow up in. It pained her to think about the next generation being used to this. To all of this. But that what always happened with the human race. No matter your situation. You get used to it. It becomes the norm.
Tori saw Richard was ready to go, and she decided it was time to head back in the RV so they could get going. Upon entering, Tori figured she'd keep her jacket on for now. No point getting relaxed until they knew for sure they were safe. Tori sat down on the bench and crossed her legs. Making herself comfortable as she waited. Wanting to preserve the 3DS' power for the time being.
