Mark climbed out of the drivers seat and watched the girls climb onto the truck. He let out a chuckle as they climbed on top of the truck. He looked at the others as they asked about the cultists. He shook his head. "No we didn't see the singers but this guy seems to know about them."
Marks eye still hurt. It wasn't a large pain but it was noticeable. Ash's question made the biker think back to the area they found. "Yeah we found a living quarters in the tunnel for emergency workers. Probably be a good place for us to camp and stock up on supplies in there. This however." Mark smacked the truck with his hand. "This is compensation for not having my bike for almost a whole year now." "Not like your counting or anything." Mark heard Ash say sarcastically and retorted by flipping him the bird.
"So whose this new dude?" The biker asked about the new person.
Lilly watched the girls practically run to the truck. Moving to the little Lee she picked him up and cradled the baby in her arms. She walked out of the camper and towards the firetruck as Lee let out little noises every now and then. "Sweet ride." She commented as she eyed the new people. She took comfort in knowing she could easily grab her pistol tucked into her waistband.
Tori's face turned red as a tomato when Richard told her she needed to turn the safety off. Clearly embarrassed by her ignorance as she turned the safety off real quick before putting it away.
“I knew that. I was just making sure you knew that. Congratulations, you passed the first test.”
Nice save. They'll never be able to tell you're full of shit. Hey, a conversation was going on. Distraction! Mark mentioned something about a new guy and Tori looked in the truck to spot him. Seemed like there were new guys all around here. At least this one had information to offer.
“This is Richard. He's looking for his daughter.”
She turned her attention back to the new guy with Mark and Kiku.
“I suppose you can tell us all about the crazies when we're not out in the open like this.”
Tori looked to Mark and Kiku.
“You guys sure the living quarters weren't being used by anybody?”
Last thing they needed was to end up right in the cultists home.
Kiku climbed out of the truck as everyone gathered around, clearly happy that they weren't the crazy people. She crossed her arms, their reactions on solidified her opinion that they should just turn around and leave. Sadly it wasn't her decision, "I'm still suspicious of it, the room is well preserved. Almost like no one has ever been in it since before the outbreak but I find that completely impossible. This firetruck is completely stocked."
Kiku shifted her weight and sighed, "However, Mark thinks it's safe." She uncrossed her arms, holding her right out as she pleaded with Ash, "Can we reconsider staying here? All things considered we should just pack up and get out of here."
Richard watched as the others filed out of the firetruck. He listened to the group talk, discussing whether or not to stay the night within the tunnel way--he felt it was a horrible idea. There was a sadistic cult in the area, and they were just going to hide up in the middle of the tunnel way. He felt there was too many bad scenarios that could come from it.
He glanced towards their leader, Ash and spoke, "I don't know if it would be smart to hole up in there. Those people," he paused at the thought, "Can be anywhere, watching us, I think it would be smart for you guys to keep moving and put some distance from here." He needed to keep moving, to find his daughter, with or without the help of this group.
Al climbed out of the truck last, Kiku's words still hung in the air. "Despite what you might think, right now it's your best option. I've been watching these guys for a month now. If you drive away, unless you manage to leave the state, they will keep looking for you. I mean, they know what half of you look like and they know which moving vehicle to look for. They're expecting you to run, and if you don't they will look for you inside of town."
He looked at all the faces before them, "To them you are fresh meat, and I'm sure they're hungry. What I suggest is you pack up your stuff like you're headed into town, and go back to the room these two found. Uh, also, I recommend putting Big Red back where you found it. They'll get suspicious if they see it just sitting out here next to the RV." He crossed his arms as he finished his last sentence, he smiled feeling very pleased. Not to toot his own horn but he is being the most helpful.

Dakota rolled her eyes, she knew Tori and Papa Bear meant well, but couldn't she just have a little fun? Sure there was crazy monsters not far off who may or may not want to eat them, but that was life now. There was always something or someone to be on the look out for. If you didn't make your own fun and grab it when you could, then it just might shorter, drearier trip to being made part of the landscape. They just didn't understand. Or maybe it because she's on her way to growing into a teenager that she did what she did next.
She threw her hands up and pretended to start slipping from the truck. She slid only and inch, only because she made herself scoot forward. Dakota climbed easily back toward the ladder over the back. She seemed to think it was amusing.
Clementine's smile faded, watching Koda's hijinks. Sure, Dakota's sometimes impulsive and slightly off the wall nature was part of why Clem loved as a sister and best friend, but there were times, like now, that Clem could do with smaller does of it. She sighed and shook her head, adding her voice to the chorus of Tori and Papa Bear's. Koda, that's not funny. We can have fun, but we still need to be careful with those... people still around. I don't see them, but they can't be that far.”
Clem glanced back down the tunnel again before moving to climb up onto the ladder too. For all her chiding, she was not finished climbing around on the truck either.

Dakota sighed and glanced briefly over at Clem, ”Geez, you too, Clem? Killjoy. We're supposed to be team, you and me. Even on the stupid little stuff. Point is, I AM being careful. Or do you wanna be an oompa loompa for Halloween too?”
Clem looked baffled for a moment, and shook her head laughing, W-what? You're going to ruin the surprise! And no of course not. We're not the oompa loompas.” Listening to the quick back and forth down below, Clem felt some at unease at being out in the open. She climbed on down from the truck, and back to the RV, ”It's time to great ready for Halloween wherever they won't find us in the next five minutes. It would be nice to have it in a place bigger than the RV., long as its wherever they're not.”

Peer pressure works both ways, even post-apocalypse. Dakota climbing up onto the truck had encouraged Clem, and Clem climbing down coaxed Koda down to the ground too. Playtime was over. Though clowning around, she heard most every word said down below the truck. Her gaze glanced between Mark and Papa Bear before following Clem back to the RV. ”Here or Fort Collins, we gotta have time to be ready for...any kinda crazies. These ones or any of the hella other crazies that always pop up.
Tori was glad to see she wasn't the only one who wanted to leave town. She could at least understand if they still wanted to look for the rest of their group, but if the cultists were this close maybe they already hightailed it? Tori looked over to Al when he spoke.
“You'll forgive me if I'm not ready to take advice from a guy I've known for a couple of seconds.”
Her voice was neutral. Right now the guy didn't give her any reason to like or dislike him. Just then she saw Dakota about to fall off the firetruck and leaped forward ready to catch her only to find she was joking. Her face turned as red as the color of her hair.
“Goddammit, Dakota! Are you trying to give us a heart attack?! Don't do that!”
It was just then Tori realized how much she cared about the girls despite how little time they had spent together. Damn biological clock ticking. Fuck you, Nature! And why did Tori get the feeling she was going to regret making that oompa loompa reference?
Ash crossed his arms. He was lost in thought until Tori yelled at Dakota. Looking around the group he didn't know what to do. Those crazies could be around. Fresh meat that guy had called them. Ash started to grind his teeth thinking about what they should do.
"We're staying in the tunnel for tonight." Ash finally said. "In the morning we're loading up the supplies into the RV and then we're heading to Fort Collins." The Texan kept his gaze on the group. "We're parking the RV in the spot you guys got Big Red from. We'll take shifts standing guard as usual except whoever's on guard has to stay on the firetruck."
"Dakota! Come with me for a second." Ash said as he walked over behind the RV away from the others view. He waited a few seconds making sure no one was listening. "I know I'm not your father but you can't be doing shit like that Dakota. What would have happened if you did slip and cracked your skull on the metal?" Ash was a little upset but only because he worried about Dakota and she was the closest thing he'd ever had to Daughter. Her and Clementine.

Tori and Clem chewing her out, weighed on Dakota's conscience, but she could deflect. The stern tone in Ash's voice made her heart sink, before she even went around back. She cast her hazel eyes down and pushed her cowboy hat as far forward as she could to hide her face. Boy was she glad Ash was decent enough to not embarrass her in front of everyone else. Koda didn't have excuse or back talk to offer. She had swung from the precipice of teenage defiance back to earth. It probably wouldn't be the last time either. She managed a soft, and genuinely apologetic ”I'm sorry, Papa Bear. I...”
She meant to add more, but she didn't know what she could, so she just repeated, ”I'm sorry.”
His stomach dropped at the idea of staying in the tunnels for the night. He was so close to finding his daughter, but it'd have to wait one more day. He sighed as he slid his backpack on, watching as a few of the members scolded a young girl. The leader of the group, from the look of things pulled her out of earshot and began talking to her in private.
He shifted his attention towards the others and then towards the tunnel, "Thanks for bringing me in," he paused, "I'll take first watch...I won't be able to sleep well tonight."
Ash sighed feeling bad for scolding Dakota. He'd forgotten what it was like being a preteen. Wrapping his arms around Dakota he hugged her close. "I love you sweetheart. I'm sorry I got upset with you. I worry about you and Clementine a bit too much sometimes." Ash gave her a squeeze before he let go of her. "But this isn't a world where you can rebel freely Bunnicula." Ash grabbed the brim of her cowboy hat. He'd forgotten it used to be his but she looked cute in it. "At least wait until we're in a safer place to do your crazy shit ok?" Ash offered her a warm smile before pulling the hat down over her eyes.
Tori watched Ash take Dakota away in private. Ooh, she was in trouble! Her attention went back to Richard when he thanked them taking him in and went on about his feelings on the tunnel.
“What, you don't want to sleep in the dark, gloomy tunnel with the ghouls and goblins? Where's your Halloween spirit?” Tori joked. That sarcasm reeling its ugly head again. She wasn't anymore of a fan of the idea than he was, but there wasn't much to be done unless they wanted to try their luck on their own, and Tori knew there was strength in numbers.
Ah, Halloween. That was a good time of year. An excuse to cuddle up with the girlfriends and watch scary movies in the dark. Dress up and eat candy. Tori missed smarties. Little round pieces of candy in a tube that tasted magnificent. Made her mouth water just thinking about them. God, the world today sucked.

Dakota held tight, squeezing briefly for life in her return hug to Ash. The was a reason she had prayed to him when she thought Ash was with the rest of her family on the other side. She mumbled, ”I love you too, Papa Bear.”
She sniffed and tried to pretend she wasn't misty eyed under that hat. She didn't always do the best at maintaining the tougher exterior she tried to adopt since they left Ash for dead back at the god forsaken cemetery. How she wished she could be more like Tala or Vivian. Nothing seemed to bother Tala much that she could remember, and Vivian knew ho to take charge when she had to. Thinking of them, she wiped her eyes dry under the brim of her hat with the back of her forearm. Then it was prematurely dark... She sighed and by the tone of her voice there was probably a tween eyeroll that went with, ”Papa Beaaar...”
Without lifting her hat from her eyes, another hug came with it too. A sober thought came to her, and she tipped her hat back so she could look up, ”Is there somewhere safe?”
Halloween was coming to the RV. Clementine assumed there wouldn't be any work moving anything to or from the RV until they got all parked where ever the fire truck had come, so she was already hard at work coloring the first Jack-o-lantern. With only one night to come in the tunnel, there was no use decorating anything but the RV. An easy enough project for the girls once Clem got Koda to help.
Ash smiled at Dakota as she pushed her hat back up. His smile faded a little at her question on if anyplace was safe. He thought for a few seconds before responding. "There has to be right? There has to be a safe place somewhere. Maybe Lara or Vivian found it. Maybe even Remy's found it." Ash flashed Dakota his carefree smile.
"If we can't find a safeplace we'll make a safeplace." Ash felt something brush against his leg. He looked down and saw Shadow wagging his tail at the two. Ash placed his hand on the dogs head. "Look Dakota Shadows even wanting to find a safe place to." The dog let out a happy sigh before looking at the girl and letting out a bark wanting her attention to.
