- - - setting: Peoria
Lukas kept to himself and generally avoided going out of the building at night. He made sure that all the windows were covered and that the main doors of the house were blocked. Though it wasn't much, Lukas knew that he had prevented something from simply wandering in and anything that wasn't undead couldn't just stroll through the house at a leisurely pace.
Solitude wasn't something humans necessarily needed to survive. In fact, Lukas had read numerous reports where when people secluded themselves, they often went stir crazy. Lukas didn't want to be another statistic in a world that had gone to shit, but at the same time he knew that going out and trying to find any form of other interaction wasn't in his best interests at the current time. When humanity had a structure and that structure had fallen, the morals had gone with it.
Sighing, Lukas looked out the window and watched the sun rising in the distance. Lukas had the tendency to wake up before the sun rose and this was one of those times – he knew that once the sun broke over the horizon he would be able to leave the small house he had obtained and be able to look for supplies. He would also be able to let out the pent up anger.
For the past couple of days, Lukas had avoided going outside because of how hot it was. Summer was just around the corner and Lukas new from past experience that the summers in Illinois had the tendency to be extremely humid. Staying in where it was a little cooler was his best bet, especially when he didn't have a whole lot of water to keep himself hydrated when he went outside. However in those couple of days, Lukas could slowly feel himself slipping from his sanity. In the time span he had already read through his agriculture text book at least twice, nice counting the times he flipped through it after the outbreak in general. He made sure to review the pages he had marked specifically for his state and then looked outside on and off. He had also pilfered through the house and read the diaries of the two younger girls that lived there and the paperwork the father had done. Apparently he was some type of doctor, most likely one from the other hospital because the name didn't seem familiar, and had taken paperwork home to review. Lukas could read an entire biography of someone who may or may not be living, though he didn't think much past that point.
After all, everyone Lukas knew was probably dead. Lukas didn't care much for his father, his mother was already gone (thank God), and Lukas didn't really have any close friends that he could actually consider to care about. Because of the issues at home, Lukas tried to avoid growing close to anyone because he didn't want any light being shed on his family from the outside. So, of course, Lukas didn't have any girlfriends, didn't really know what the party life was like, and pretty much was an all around mystery to everyone. Sure, he played on the sports teams (football, basketball, and soccer) and he attended school dances if necessary but that was all part of his gig to avoid his father at all and any costs. So in all reality, Lukas had no one.
So would that mean he was bound to be alone in this life? Lukas had no idea. But he also didn't want to exactly stay locked up to find out.
In his thought process Lukas could feel his anger rising, his blood pressuring skyrocketing as he thought about all the stupid things his father did and said to him and his mother. How would one who claimed to love someone so much as to get married to them actually say that? How could he actually say things like that to Lukas or in front of Lukas when Lukas was his own flesh and blood? The more Lukas thought about it the more he felt enraged and before he knew it, Lukas was carrying himself through the city, swinging at the oncoming undead creatures that came towards him. Lukas was thankful that he wasn't exactly surrounded or in a particularly busy side of the city, but at the same time Lukas knew he was bound to draw attention to himself.
But who cared? Because at that point, Lukas knew he was going to die alone anyway. If he ever got bitten or scratched he knew he had enough strength to pull the trigger to his own brain to avoid being one of them. After so many times of messing up, Lukas finally found a way to kill them and at that point Lukas was unstoppable.
Lukas dipped and twirled as he started swinging at the heads of the undead geekers, smashing skulls that were in varying stages of decomposition. Who cared? They were all dead anyway.
