Hearing Sisa talk about some of the names for her new daughter, Joseph chimed in. "I think those would sound lovely for her as well," he said, smiling and adding as he finished bagging up all the assorted medical waste, "Now, if you'll excuse me," getting up, two large bags in hand, "I'm going to toss this in the burn pit outside and dispose of it."
As he walked over towards the farmhouse door, he stopped next to Dean. "I'm going to go outside and burn these in one of the burn pits outside. After that, I'm going to head over to the RV, grab the dutch ovens and a few other things, go over to the other firepit," walking over to the door and pointing towards the firepit which was in almost immediate sight of the farmhouse door, "and fix us a nice, big country dinner. Of course, that'll depend on what supplies we have, but I think I can scrounge something good."
As he paused, he placed a friendly hand on Dean's shoulder and added, "While I'm outside, I'm gonna' borrow Nick for a bit, have him help me set up the dutch ovens over the firepit and everything." Before he stepped outside, he added, "You know, Dean, I can just see Annie now...she'd be happy at what's happened today, she'd be proud at how we've all worked together...." Pausing to wipe a tear from his eye, he added, "we've all kept the faith, Dean. Now, let me get this," hefting the two bags up with his other hand, "let me get these disposed of and I'll see what we can come up with."

Dean smiled and listened to how Sisa and Zack tried to pick a name. He heard how Sisa added Annie a couple times. “I don’t want to intrude, but I think it’s very sweet of you to use the name Annie.” Dean said softly as he was sad and happy on the same time.
Then he turned to Joseph and listened to his plan. “Sounds all very good and I’m sure it will be very cozy.” Dean said with a smile. Shortly after that Dean felt how Joseph placed his hand on his shoulder and asked if he could borrow Nick. “Okay, two things when you go out with Nick, keep him safe and hands off.” Dean said jokingly. “I’m serious about the keeping him safe part though.” He said with a smile but yet serious.
Dean his tears ran down his face as Joseph spoke about Annie, it was just all the emotion, the happiness and now thinking of Annie that caused him to cry. “You are right Joseph, we did good.” He said with a little smile as he wiped of his tears.

Nick decided not to follow Dean inside to see the new arrival. Instead he stayed leaned against the farm doors wondering if it was a boy or a girl. That was until he heard what sounded like Sisa's voice yelling the name Stephanie. Guessing from that the young man assumed the baby was a girl. It made a smile form on his tan face. Something about new life in days of death was womderfull. Dark brown eyes glance over at the farm house womdering what was going on inside.

"Haw, haw, haw, Dean," Joseph laughed at Dean's suggestion that he keep his hands off of Nick, adding with a light slug to Dean's shoulder, "I'd rather be locked in a room with both Sabita and Sisa, thank you...." letting his voice trail because the next person he would've mentioned would've Annie and he really didn't want to admit it to himself, but Annie's death had hit him about as hard as it had hit Dean, though for vastly different reasons.
Stepping outside, he walked over towards Nick. "Nick, I'm gonna need your help on a couple things." Holding up the two bags of medical waste, he said, "I need you to head over to the Silverado and grab a bottle of lighter fluid; once you do that, bring it over to the firepit. I'm gonna burn these two bags in one of the firepits," pointing over towards one of the farm's firepits out front. "After that, we're gonna' grab several dutch ovens out of the RV," adding in a quiet voice, "I promised everyone that we're gonna' have a large country dinner later in the evening and I am a man of my word, so that's what I intend to do..but I'm gonna need some help, so I need you to help me with the cooking, which we're going to do over the other firepit," pointing towards the second, larger firepit. "Anyway, we got a lot to do, Nick, so let's get started, alright?"

A small frowned formed in the man's tan face as Joseph's words were not anything about the baby. Instead there was something about getting lighter fluid and going to the firepit and burning some medical stuff. Shaking his head as he politely grabbed Joseph's shoulders and shook him. "What about the baby! The suspense is killing me!" Nick said politely as he let go and laughed to try and show that he wasn't meaning to be mean. Slowly backing away to go and quickly get the lighter fluid as Joseoh spoke about the new life.

After letting Nick rant and rave for a few moments, Joseph smiled broadly and said, "Its' alright, Nick, Sisa and her new daughter are fine, they're just fine," adding after a few moments, "Anyway, we gotta' lot of work to do, so let's get started, shall we?"

As Nick got the firepit started for cooking, Joseph grabbed all the supplies he needed - two dutch ovens, plus the meat and other foods needed - and began preparing everything to cook over the firepit. Hefting everything onto a cooking table, he began opening several large cans of mixed vegetables, along with two large cans of tomato sauce. Pouring everything into one of the ovens, he then opened up a large thawed bag of venison meat he'd kept inside the farmhouse fridge - part of a deer that'd been shot and dressed a few months back - and added it to the dutch oven. After adding some spices - and then adding some more spices - he stirred everything up before setting the oven lid down on top of it.
Putting on a pair of thick, leather-lined gloves on, he carried the oven over to the firepit and placed it carefully on top of the charcoal pile, taking a few moments to place about two dozen large pieces of charcoal on top of the lid so that the oven - with the venison hobo stew inside - would cook evenly. Now all I gotta' do is wait until its' almost done before I fix the other part of the country dinner I spoke of earlier, Joseph thought, thinking that the stew would go well with a whole batch of fresh-made biscuits; his stomach grumbled approvingly as he thought about it a bit. All told, this has been a pretty good day so far, he thought to himself...
(OOC: That's no problem, Dean; rather than use a post to say that the med. waste was disposed, I decided to skip over that - we'll go ahead and assume its' been disposed of - and went ahead and started fixing the country dinner I mentioned in a couple of earlier posts.)

Dean decided to give the parents some time alone. He stepped back and made his way over to Joseph. “So how is it going here?” Dean asked with a smile. His boyfriend was helping too. “Be careful, don’t hurt yourself sweetie.” Dean said as he looked at Nick and winked.
He looked back to Joseph. “Anything I can do?” he asked softly.
(sorry for the short post, but it was kind of hard to reply to yours Joseph especially since Dean wasn’t there yet )

His boyfriend was helping too. “Be careful, don’t hurt yourself sweetie.” Dean said as he looked at Nick and winked. He looked back to Joseph. “Anything I can do?” he asked softly.
Taking a moment to think, Joseph stepped back from the firepit and said, "I think Nick and I have got everything in order for the time being." Sitting down on the ground close by but away from the firepit, he looked over at Dean. "You know, its' funny, Dean," motioning for both him and Nick to sit down nearby. "I was just thinking back to when I was a GP back in Utah, how it seemed every Christmas I'd try to take a few days off....and how every Christmas somebody'd call from the Summit County Hospital, saying there was a woman in labor getting ready to give birth. Every year, Dean, that I was a GP that'd happen like clockwork," chuckling at the humor of it all, adding with dry wit, "At least I didn't forget my obstetrics training from when I was an intern; oh, the stories I could tell you from my intern year at LDSI," smiling at the thought of memories past.
Looking over towards Dean, he asked, "So, what's your story, Dean? Where are you from, if I may ask?"

Nick smiled as he went over and sat by the fire pit that he made. Stareing at the flames briefly before listening to the story from Joseph's life before the undead rose. Turning his head and quietly he whispered into Deans ear. "We should laugh to make it seem like the story was funny" The young man whispered with a smile.
Laughing a little himself as he wasn't very sneaky with his whispering which what made him laugh. Raising a brow as Joseph asked Dean where he was from. Nick knew what Dean had told him and was curiose if the story would be different in a way. Tilting his head a tad as he cracked his fingers. "Yeah rich boy tell them where you come from." He teased Dean.

Dean looked at Joseph as he said that most of the work was done. “Well, guess it’s time to relax a bit.” Dean said with a smile. Shortly after Joseph motioned for Nick and Dean to sit next to him. Dean made his way toward the Doc and sat down. Dean listened carefully and interested to the story of Joseph. He smiled as Doc finished his story and even laughed at Nick his comment afterwards. “It was funny, silly, it’s fun to hear other stories.” Dean whispered back as he playfully pushed Nick his shoulder, followed by a kiss on his forehead. “Well you can always share all of those memories, I like stories.” Dean said with a smile.
Mere seconds later Joseph asked about Dean his story. Followed by a tease from Nick. “Hey, stop calling me that.” Dean said with a laugh and a wink. Then his eyes filled with sadness, he tried to laugh it off, but even though he was quite rich he had a hard past.
“Well part of what Nick said is true, I was a rich boy, before shit hit the fan.” Dean said softly with a little smile. “I grew up in Washington D.C., my mother was a model and my father a owner of a security company, known far and wide.” Dean explained. “My father died the day I graduated, so I was forced to take over the company.” Dean said softly with a little pain in his tone. “Luckily for me I was trained for years and I stood my ground, together with the support of my mother and my boyfriend Michael, I was engaged to him.” Dean said with sadness in his eyes. “A couple weeks for the wedding, we were walking on a very busy street taking care of things for the wedding as a car drove in our direction at high speed, the driver was under the influence of alcohol, the last thing I remember was Michael wrapping his arms around me and turning his back to the car.” Dean spoke softly filled with sadness. “When I woke up, my mother told me Michael died due to the injuries.” He added as a tear ran down his face.
“I went to vacation to get some me time, that was when the apocalypse happened, I hurried back home only to find my mother dead.” He tried his best to keep the tears away, but it was hard. “After that I fought hard to survive and to get myself back on track.” He added as he swallowed loudly trying to push the sadness down. “I found the farm, lived here and everyone is like family and then one day I met my brown angel here, he gives me another reason to live and my task is simple keep him safe never make the same mistakes again, keep everyone safe actually.” Dean said in a confident tone as he looked at Nick and winked. “That’s why I was so devastated when we lost Annie.” He added softly. “Anyways sorry for talking so long, you probably didn’t want to know the full version, but sometimes talking helps for me.” Dean said as he wiped of his tears and smiled. “So what’s your story Doc.” Dean asked with a smile.
Post by Joseph MacMillan on Aug 6, 2015 2:18:44 GMT -5
Listening to Dean's story, Joseph couldn't help but feel a bit of sadness for the mean, especially after he talked about losing his boyfriend to a car accident; though Joseph, before the walkers' arrival, had been a staunch - very staunch - social conservative, some things still hurt him to hear and someone losing a loved one ranked up there with everything else. "Hey, hey, hey," he said, reaching over to Dean in an attempt to comfort the younger man, "I know its' hurts to lose someone close to you, but as long as you remember the good times and everything, it helps you get through the bad times." Thinking of a quote he'd once heard, he added, "You know, towards the end of his life, the great Brigham Young once said, 'All of us, whether we are of the church or are of the Gentiles, each have our own road to walk. Regardless of what we do in this world, we must walk that road ourselves, hopeful in the knowledge that God will guide us accordingly.' There's always going to be good times and bad times, times when things go great and other times when you want to just crawl into a hole and wither away...the thing is, you keep going down that road knowing He's up there watching us."
Before he could add anything, he heard Dean ask, “So what’s your story Doc.” After a few moments, he began. "Well, I grew up in the shadow of the Wasatch Mountains of Utah in Salt Lake City; my father was a well-renowned doctor and it was almost a given that I'd follow him, which I did. Went to college, then medical school and then did my internship and GP residency at LDS Intermountain Hospital...I still remember my intern year as if were yesterday and I was still a fresh-faced, newly-minted doctor getting ready to hit the world running. Oh, the stories I could tell you of that year...
"Anyway," coughing a moment, "after I did my residency, I didn't want to stay tethered to a hospital, so I moved across the mountain and set up shop as a GP - general practitioner, a family doctor, basically - wanting to make my own place in this world. When the end of the world arrived, I was en-route to my cabin home outside of Coalville when I got a call to come back in to town - one of my patients had suffered a heart attack and was being rushed to Summit County Hospital. On the way back, I got stuck in traffic, tried to walk back into town - which isn't easy to do on a partially bum leg - nearly got gnawed on by a walker, tried to ride out the first few weeks, thinking it'd blow over....eventually, I decide to take off and take my chances elsewhere, whatever they were....
"Like you, I eventually made it to the farm and it felt like home, like I could finally stop wandering the proverbial desert and plant my roots back down somewhere...and yes, I have my own reasons for continuing - for me, its' because I want to keep everyone safe and also because I'd like to someday see this place become an oasis, like a shining city on the hill....a place of safety in a fragmented world...." Pausing to look around, Joseph added, "Anyway, that's my piece...what about you, Nick? What's your story, my friend?"
"Little Koya. I like it." Zack stared at the baby as Sisa offered him to hold it. "Yes please." He picked up the tiny child in his arms. He was a father. Wow. His smile grew as he looked at the child. "Hey Koya. Welcome to the real world." Feeling tears roll down his cheeks he rocked the child gently in his arms. "I'm gonna treat you better than my parents treated me." He whispered to his daughter.

Dean smiled as the Doc tried to comfort him. “Thanks it means more than you think.” Dean said with a smile.
After that he listened as Joseph told them his story. Dean smiled as he saw how Joseph enjoyed the memories of his first year. “Well we will make some time for those stories, I’d like to hear them sometime.” Dean said with a smile. Dean nodded as he spoke about having his own office as sort of family doctor. “Nice.” He said with a smile.
Seconds later Joseph finished his story. “That’s very noble, I think we have a common cause.” Dean said as he patted Joseph on his back. Then he also turned to Nick as Joseph asked about his story. Dean knew it was hard for Nick to talk about, so he grabbed Nick his hand and softly pinched to let him know he was here to support him.

"Uh My story?" Nickiah said bash fully as he didn't like talking about the past like most people. Thinking over what he would say before he felt the comforting hand of his boyfriends giving his hand a pinch which made him smile.
Feeling better then he felt before. Nicks lips began moving before words finally came out. "I lived in New York City as a Bicycle Carrier with my boyfriend Alfred. Family consisted of two catholic parents and my twin sister Nicky, I know my parents were really creative with names." He joked with a small laugh
"The world went to hell and my parents died. It was just me and Alfred for a while. He didn't trust others very much. We were bandits somewhat as much as I hate to say.." Nickiah sighed as his hand squeezed Deans hand. "But that was a long time ago and I hope the few people we had met had survived with what little they had." The young man said with sympathy and sadness for his past wrong doing. Small tears ran down his cheeks as he continued with his story.
"Then Alfred and I made it to this big settlement in Colarado this winter before I met all of you. Alfred didn't trust and decided that it was time for us to leave and we did. On the way are car got surrounded and he decided to let them devour him.. So that I could run away as his screams echoed in the air" The tan man stared off not wanting to think to much on it as he had slowly managed to get over it. "Sabita founds me before I committed self harm and now we are here. Where I have a few more friends and a best friends" He flashed a smile at his love Dean before glancing over at the farm house. "You should here Sisa's story.. She really likes to tell them eithe myth or real. Maybe Joseph should get the love birds and the baby bird out here?" He laughed a little as he was reminded of his time in the attic with her.

"In due time," Joseph mused, hearing Nick's reference to Sisa, Zach and their new daughter. "I think, given everything, they've earned some time alone." Getting up, he added, "Be right back," walking over to the firepit to check on the dutch oven dinner he'd started. Gently lifting the lid off - after making sure there were no coals left on the lid - he used a long ladle to check whether the venison hobo stew was ready. Close, but not quite, he thought, adding, better get the other half ready.
Walking back over to the cooking table, he quickly mixed up the ingredients for the other half of the country dinner he'd spoken of earlier - baking powder, flour, shortening, ground pepper for seasoning and canned milk - and got them fixed and made into biscuits, setting them inside the second dutch oven he'd gotten out earlier. After making sure everything was ready, he carried the second oven over to the firepit and set it atop the fiery coals, making sure not to burn himself in the process.
Satisfied everything was in order, he walked back over to where Dean and Nick was and sat back down; smiling, he said, "About another forty minutes or so and dinner will be ready," adding, "if there's one thing I'd grateful for in this screwed-up world - other than finally finding a place of refuge in this world - its' knowing how to cook with even the most rudimentary of food items. A good skill to have, among other things," smiling as he sat and looked around, for once feeling both happy and content at the state of the world they were in...

Dean listened as Nick began with his story. He of course already knew Nick his story. The first part of the story went ok, he knew Nick had a hard time talking about it, but it seemed ok. Then as he started telling Doc about Alfred, Dean felt a pinch in his hand. He softly rubbed Nick his hand with his thumb to try and comfort him. Then he got to the part, where he lost Alfred which was hard for him. Dean softly wiped of the tears that ran down Nick his face.
After that Nick sounded a bit happier as he told them how happy he was here with the new friends and best friend. “Hey I’m more than a best friend.” Dean said with a smile as he playfully gave Nick a little push.
After that he heard how Nick asked to get Sisa, Zack and the little cutie. Joseph told them to give them time and he was right. “Yeah maybe just give them some more time alone.” Dean said with a smile.
“But you have me, to keep you company.” He said as he looked at Nick, before kissing him.
In the meantime Joseph was checking the oven and making some more preparations. As he returned he told them dinner would be ready in forty minutes. “Looking foreward to it Jo.” Dean said with a smile. Dean nodded in agreement on Joseph his comment. “That is indeed something to be happy about.” He said with a smile.

"oh, yeah, definitely," Joseph added, "and if we had a small smokehouse somewhere close by, we could add to our food supplies that way as well. A few weeks back while hunting for deer, I saw a couple of feral hogs; I would've shot one of them, but we didn't have the room to store the meat anywhere." Pointing over to where a couple rows of corn and other vegetables were growing, he continued. "We might also want to consider finding space, either inside the farmhouse or nearby, to store the food from the garden back there when fall arrives," already thinking a few months down the road when the weather would begin to cool and the seasons' would begin to change.
Looking over towards where their vehicles were parked, he added, "At the very least, we might want to look into getting one more vehicle so we won't be completely dependent on the Silverado; before I got here months earlier, I passed a couple of car lots on one of the main roads out there....sometime later in the week, we should probably make a trip out there, see if we can find vehicle or two."

Nickiah listen to how Joseph mentioned food supply which made the young man look at the farmhouse and then the chicken coups. "We could eat some of the chickens and if we got desperate I guess the horses" The young man suggested as thought about things. "Sisa said she and Mirek had came in on horses" He chimed in.
Humming a little to himself as he listened to Joseph vehicle ideas. "We aren't really dependent on the Silverado. So far we have a SUV, RV, Porsche, and two horses" He smiled as he tried not to be a bother at least.
