Spring had settled in. The snow had melted and the air couldn't decide it was gonna stay cold or warm up. Today the sun had been out making the weather a bit warmer. Zack wouldn't complain. He loved that it wasn't cold outside. It'd been a rough winter for the group with Annie gone. Murdered by a sick cult leader.
Zack sat on the roof of the farm house. His bow and quiver never far sat beside him. Zack had escaped to the roof multiple times either to just be alone or have a smoke. Flicking his lighter open and close he could see over the wall. A walker would shuffle out of the trees but would disappear back into them. He'd only seen one today. A bird chirped from the wall as it searched for pieces it could add to its nest.

Stepping outside the farmhouse, Joseph walked outside and sat down for a moment, lever-action in hand. It'd been a hard time for him and everyone else since Annie's death at the hands of what he found out was a demented cult leader; despite walking around the area - and taking short drives in the Silverado as well - he'd seen no sign of the sick bastard who'd sliced Annie. Please, God, he whispered quietly, please let me run across that animal, just once....just once.
Hearing something on the roof, Joseph stepped out from the porch and walked out a little ways; looking up, he saw Zack sitting up there, bow and arrow next to him. Waving to him, he said, "Hey, Zack. You alright up there?" As the farm's resident doctor, it was incumbent upon Joseph to not only make sure everyone was alright physically but also alright mentally as well and part of that was talking to everyone as time passed by..
It was spring already, Vince had been here that long. He didn't mean to, it just happened. He stayed to help out, after the hit the farm took. Some took a hit when the girl, Annie, died harder than others. Vice was lucky enough not to know her, didn't even speak to her once. He didn't feel for her like the others did, instead just felt a need to step up. He took his shifts protecting and watching. He's go on the occasional run and had gotten to know these people. He had names down now, could identify who is who. Deep down, he'd miss them.
Vince packed his bag, throwing the last of his clothes into it. He closed it off and grabbed his bat, gripping it and moving the bag towards the front. He made sure his gun was packed in it, the clip now full compared to the seven bullets he came with. He had also taken what little food he could, considering he needed it for his trip. He would need to find more, months worth once he hit New York, he also needed a boat. All that could wait though. For now he had equiped in his pack enough food to last a week on his own. It was minimal, but it was all he felt he should take from these people.
Vince walked out the door towards the front. He opted to wear just his jeans and muscle shirt, packin his junpsuit. It was warm enough now that he didn't need it, if he got cold he could just add his ski jacket, mostly happened at night. His shoulder ached a little as he pulled his bag tighter. He knew it hadn't healed fully, but it was close. Vince saw the doc and waved him down.
"Doc, Joseph... Can I get you to take one last look at my shoulder. Just one last time before I head out. I wanted to hit the road while it was early. I'll say my goodbyes but then I'm leaving. It's time."

Looking at the map attentively checking off the places they had already searched for supplies. Tapping the pencil against her soft upper lift as very much pregnant women tried to figure the problem out. This damn heart burn isn't helping at all.. Is what the raven haired lass said to herself. Getting up from the couch in the living room to ext outside to the porch. Dark brown eyes gazed at the wall that did protect them from walkers but it only sedated her worry for a while until recently. Sisa leaned her back against the fence of the porch as she took notice of the Doc Joseph. At least her worry about birth was a little smaller with someone with medical knowledge around.
Raising a black brow as she watched and listen to Joseph ask Zack how he was doing. A smile formed on her face as she watched and tried to ease drop a little even though she was in plain sight. Switching her attention to Vince who had talked about leaving. Waving at him obviously so she wasn't so quiet. Though her pregnant belly was good at getting herself noticed. "Allin p'unchay Vince.." She said good day in her native tongue with a smile. A small frown appeared but it wasn't as sad as she was when Annie died. "Tupananchiskama or... Goodbye." she said kind smile feeling a little upset for the groups smaller number and another person going away forever. Moving her attention to Joseph. "Got anything for heart burn?" She asked patiently while rubbing her pregnant tummy.

"Doc, Joseph... Can I get you to take one last look at my shoulder. Just one last time before I head out. I wanted to hit the road while it was early. I'll say my goodbyes but then I'm leaving. It's time."
"Alright," Joseph said, signaling for Zack to hang on a moment or two so that he could check Vince's shoulder one more time. Motioning for him to pull his shirt out of the way so that he could take a look, he spent several minutes examining the now-healed wound, noting how well the wound had healed over the past weeks. Satisfied that everything was good, he smiled and told Vince it was good. Then he remembered what Vince had said about leaving the farmhouse; though he'd cautioned him against leaving, he knew he wasn't going to stop Vince, as determined as the man was. "Good luck out there, Vince," Joseph started to say; before he could continue, he heard Sisa calling from the farmhouse porch.
"Hang tight, Vince; I'll be right back," he add, turning to head back to the farm. Moving her attention to Joseph. "Got anything for heart burn?" She asked patiently while rubbing her pregnant tummy.
"Yeah, let me check," Joseph replied, opening his medkit to see what he had on hand. As was his habit, he kept it as stocked as possible, though given the world they were all in, he was beginning to run out of a few things. Let me see....ahh, there we go, he whispered, finding a 2-tablet pack of cimetidine. "Here we go," he said as he handed her the pack. "Go ahead and take one of them now, Sisa, and it should clear up your heartburn. One tablet should do the job; it is doesn't, go ahead and take the second one and let me know, okay?" hoping it was simply heartburn Sisa had and not anything more serious.
Zack looked down at Joseph. "I'm fine. Could be a little warmer but I'm fine." Sliding down he stopped once his legs were dangling off the ledge. He watched Vince get his shoulder looked at by Joseph.
"Hey Vince. Wish you were staying bro." He leaned on his knees and gave a light wave to Sisa. "Heya Sweetness." Zack placed his lighter back into his pocket but stayed on the roof. Seems like everyone was moving again. "You don't have to leave us ya know." Zack said to Vince.
Vince saw Sisa come out. The baby must be close now, he wondered if he should stay around till after she had it. They doc could handle it, but if everyone was doing that then they would need people on guard. They had small numbers, if the cult Attacked during that it would probably cripple them. He looked down at the ground as Joseph and Zack talked.
When the doc turned to him vince didn't pull off his shirt. He just pulled the muscle shirt to the side, let him examine the wound. It seemed it healed nicely, and would be fine. He traced a finger over it as he pulled his shirt back. "Thank you doc, means a lot, you checking all those times. You were right to let me rest on it, I would have caused more damage then needed. Thank you Joseph, it was a pleasure meeting you."
He looked up at Zack, the archer. "I wish I could stay, but I can not. I have to go home, I should have been there a year ago. It's stops like these with amazing people that keep prolonging it. I have to find Kevin again, his in England somewhere, over seas, I have to get to him. I would stay if he wasn't out there. I hope I see you again, maybe we'll come back this way. If not I wish you luck. You too Sisa, you'll make wonderful parents. Doc, you keep good care of them, and that baby."
Vince pulled his pack back on and pulled it tight. "Say goodbye for Dean, Nick, and Sab for me. Wish you all luck, but I must depart now." He turned to leave. Giving one last wave he pulled his map from the pouch in his bag and set off east. He had a long journey before him. He would miss them but he had to find Kev.

A small smile formed on the tan peruvian face. Brushing a black strand into her bun as she gladly took the medicine. "Ok thanks Joseph" she said as the pregnant women shuffled and shifted her weight to another leg. Frowning a little as she watched Vince leave but his words made her happy. Sisa hoped she could be a good mother even in the dead world they all lived in. Biting her lip as another feeling of what she would guess was possible contraction. It felt like either her stomach was making a fist or cramp. Giving her baby daddy a small wave as she tried to move positions from where she stood. "Joseph... This fist feeling that my stomach is making keeps reappearing" She sort of asked as the raven haired beauty put her hand on the rail. Timing this pain for its return as the South American was starting to think maybe today or sometime today would be the day.

"It was a pleasure knowing you, Vince," Joseph said, feeling sad that Vince was still leaving but also feeling glad that Vince's shoulder was healed; no sense him leaving still injured, he thought. For several minutes, he watched as Vince headed off down the road, eventually losing sight of him. God, be with him on his journey, he whispered as he turned back towards the farm.
As he walked back to the farm, he heard Sisa say something, a note of concern in her voice.
Removing his stethoscope from his medkit, he took several listens, placing the microphone end on Sisa's belly and moving it around several times, checking for fetal sounds. All good so far, he thought...wait, was that a contraction? he thought to himself, listening for another minute or so. Part of his mind was focused on listening, part of it was trying to rehash his obstetrics training - if Joseph had to guess the number of babies he'd delivered, not only as an intern, but also as a resident and then a doc in private practice, he'd lose count in the low hundreds....but that was under sterile medical conditions; this would be a field delivery, with the threat of those cultists showing up in the middle of it all. "Sisa, I believe that was a contraction you just had. Go on back inside and sit down; I'll be back in a little bit."
Stepping outside, he looked up towards Zack. "Zack, I'm going to the RV to get some more medical supplies," adding in a lower tone of voice, "Sisa's had a contraction; I think today may be the day you become a father, my friend." In his regular voice, he added, "Anyway, I'm going to grab some more supplies; I'll be right back. Tell Dean or Nick if you see them that I'm gonna' need as many sheets as possible and as much hot water as they can get, alright?"

Dean came from upstairs and walked in the room. It had been a rough couple of months. Losing Annie, small amount of time to mourn because the farm needed defenses, but it was all ok now. Summer reached the farm and the defenses seemed finally done. Everyone seemed to be outside saying goodbye to Vince. Dean felt a bit bitter that he missed the goodbye, but it was too late now since he seemed already gone. So he took a cup of coffee and sat down, waiting for the others come to come back inside.

The tan man watched from a window as he saw the Vince fellow leave. He felt a little bad for losing yet another person and sort of happy that Vince was at least better enough to go. Biting his lip as the young man turned around to walk into the living room. A small sigh escaped his soft lips as his dark eyes looked at his boyfriend sitting dri lining coffee. Giving a small wave as his face scrunched up with distaste for the drink. Sticking is tongue out as he claimed Dean as a suitable seat once the coffee was clear. Smiling as he turned his head laughing lightly. "How can you stand the taste?" He asked as poked the mug filled with coffee. Wondering what the others were up to.

Without waiting for Zack to get hold of either Dean or Nick, Joseph ran as quickly as he could - which, given the slight limp in his right leg, wasn't as easy as it might've been - over to the RV and climbed inside. Walking straight over to the medical cabinet, he opened it thusly and began looking for several items he'd need to deliver a baby. Let me see, he whispered...forceps, check. Couple of hemostats, check....curette and scalpel in case I need to do a C-section, check...two ampules of morphine, check and local anesthetic, check. He also reached over and grabbed a nearby bottle of whiskey, thinking, I knew there'd come a use for this and it wasn't for drinking. As a member of the LDS Church, he didn't drink alcohol but he wasn't above using it for sterilizing medical instruments if needed.
Making sure everything was inside the medkit, Joseph closed everything up, grabbed his rifle and slung both it and the medkit and slung htem over his shoulder. Stepping back outside, he closed up the RV, making sure the door was closed and shut before turning around and making his way back to the farmhouse.

Dark brown eyes looked at Joseph wide as he said they were contraction. "O-o.. O-ok" The mother to be said nervously as she waddled off back into the how's. Surprised that they were not just Brazton Hicks contractions again. Now that she knew it was the real deal caused her to be a little more nervouse. Walking not the living room and spotting the two other love birds on the couch caused her to be a little irritated as she didn't know if the doc needed help. "You two go help doc with stuff. Baby on board I think!" She said raising her voice a tad before finally sitting herself on the couch. Sighing as she tried brushing a long strand of her hair out of view as another contraction came a little longer and stronger. Biting her bottom in surprise as felt a weird leak feeling going down her leg. "ZACK OR JOSEPH EITHER I PEED MYSELF OR WATER BROKE." She said sort of scared.
Slinging his bow over his shoulder the Archer climbed down off the roof. It'd become so routine for him that he had every step memorized. Walking into the house he heard Sisa scream her water broke. "Oh holy shit!" Zack dropped his bow and quiver quickly rushing to Sisa. "Calm down sweetie. Deep breaths remember?" Zack started doing the deep breaths looking at Sisa. "I don't know if I'm doing this more for you or me." Zack tried to keep Sisa calm waiting for Joseph.

Running back to the farmhouse, Joseph was just on the steps when he heard Sisa scream once more; bounding inside, he saw Zack comforting - or trying to comfort - Sisa. Kneeling down in front of them, he quickly checked Sisa's vitals - pulse rate up, respiration fast but steady, he thought, placing the stethoscope around his neck. Remembering his obstetrics training, he slipped on a pair of latex gloves and looked up at Sisa. "Okay, Sisa, I'm going to do a quick cervical exam so that I'll have an idea of how far along you are. The further along you are, the easier your childbirth should be and the fewer problems there should be."
Looking over at Zack, he added, "Zack, see if you can find a few chairs so that we can prop Sisa's legs up a bit while she's sitting on the couch....Dean," glancing over at him, "I need as much hot water and clean sheets as you can find. Nick, Sabita," pointing towards the two, "I need you two to watch the outside; I don't want those goddamn cultists sneaking up on the farm while we're all inside here." Seeing Sisa's concerned expression, he gripped one hand and said to her quietly, "Hey, its' going to be alright. I'm going to do everything I can for you, okay?" trying to show a bit of calm in what could've been an escalating panic.

Dean smiled as he saw his cute boyfriend walking inside the room. Nick walked over to Dean and sat down on his lap. Dean laughed as Nick stick out his tongue and expressed his dislike of coffee. “It’s gives me energy, I need it to take care of you.” He said with a grin before kissing him.
Dean broke the kiss as he heard someone walking in, it was Sisa. She told them to go help Doc and said baby aboard I think. Dean his eyes got big as he heard what she said. “Oh my god!” he yelled out. Then Sisa told them she either peed herself or her water broke. Dean was running around to get some stuff ready.
“Oh my god again!” he yelled out once more as he heard what Sisa said.
Soon they were joined by Zack and Joseph. The doc knew what he was doing and told everyone what to do. Dean his task was to get hot water and as many sheets as possible. “Will do.” Dean said as he ran to the kitchen to get the water. After that he rushed upstairs to get the sheets. Moments later Dean arrived with the hot water and sheets. “C’mon girl you can do this.” He said softly.
Brushing a black piece of hair to her shoulder as the loner came down the steps. Pausing halfway down to listen to what she thought was Nicks boyfriend screaming and yelling. Carefully walking down to the last step not knowing if this was simply a Attack or a Bite. Raising a dark brow as her dark eyes watched Dean run around like a chicken with her head cut off. Then her focus went to the pregnant woman Sisa who had her legs slightly spread on chairs. Her eyes widen briefly before glancing over at Nick who explained most of what happen. A smirk formed as she noticed him looking quite queasy at the sight. "Don't worry Sisa. I will make sure they don't take pictures" she said with her terrible joke. Nodding to Josrph as she placed her arm around Nick and bringing the man who looked like he was going to barge ith her. Squinting her eyes as the sun hit them. Getting her bow ready with a arrow as she decided to get up on the roof.

Sisa's eyes blinked as she heard a oh my god coming from her baby daddy. For a moment her mind came up with the idea they were under attack but it was shortened when she saw Zack. The whole show going on before her manage to make her start laughing a somewhat calm herself down. Seeing Dean run around like a mouse I kitchen was a little entertaining. Turning her head to look over at her boyfriend who told her to calm down. "You don't have to push a watermelon out of dick" she said somewhat irritated but laughing as Zack did deep breaths. Trying to think to about all the succesful births in her village without a hospital. It was a little comforting to think of but then again there had been no walkers or undead when she was a teen at her village in Peru. Opening her eyes to see Joseph who was trying to be calm. A building worry built up in the back of her head with fear and pain. "What if it's.. sick" she said scared in a whisper only to Joseph. Making it clear of her worry about what if it was undead or if baby's could be born in there new world.

"Uh ok yeah. Chairs. Deep Breaths and tall chairs." Zack quickly moved into the kitchen and grabbed a pair of chairs from the table. Quickly moving back into the room and placed them by Sisa's feet. He moved back to Sisa's side and grabbed her hand. "Don't panic Robin hood is here to help." He offered her a warm smile. "Joseph is there anything else I can do?"
Post by Joseph MacMillan on Jun 9, 2015 22:13:34 GMT -5
After making sure nothing bad was going on with either Sisa or her soon-to-be born child, Joseph began applying a few dabs of local anesthetic just below and around the bottom of the birth canal, telling Sisa, "This is in case I have to make a small incision, what we call an episiotomy, so that it'll be easier for the child to enter this world," pausing to make sure he had a suture kit and scalpel nearby in case he had to. "I'm going to give you a quarter-ampule of morphine to try and deaden the pain you're going to be feeling," breaking open a small glass ampule as he spoke; after drawing out a small bit of morphine out with a syringe, he jabbed it quickly into Sisa's arm. "I can't give you more than a quarter because until the baby's out and the cord is cut, so to speak, whatever I give you as far as medicine goes, the baby will get some of it as well."
After quickly washing his hands in a pail of hot water, he continued apace with the delivery, making sure to keep both a keen eye on the baby's condition as it pushed outward and on Sisa; even in the most sterile of conditions, there was always a risk of maternal death and though he'd never had a mother die on him during childbirth, he wasn't about to let that happen on his watch....
"Joseph is there anything else I can do?"
Thinking for a moment, he quickly said, "Yeah, stay by your wife's side, Zack, and comfort her as best as you can," adding after a moment, "Hey, its' not everyday you become a father, even with the world the way it is now."
