When Mia approached him and asked if he'd slept okay, he shrugged. Emre wasn't really sure if answering truthfully was the way to go, it wasn't anything too big to worry about, just the past catching up to him. He looked at her and gave a reassuring smile. "I'm fine, it's just some bad nightmares, nothing to worry about". There wasn't really an answer to his question if there was a new person in the group, but it was implied when Emre was told to go with the new girl to complete some chores. Great, more work to do, it had to be done, he should just get on with it. The tasks he was given were pretty basic, stuff he had already done back at the other cabin.
When the new girl introduced herself, Emre gave a friendly smile. Well, she was his new working partner, so he better start by giving a good first impression. "Hey Lyndsie, I'm Emre. I guess we'll be working together for a bit" he said with a friendly greeting smile.
Lyndsie gave a small smile to this other man that had come up to her and was her specified working partner, nodding in acknowledgment before holding her left hand out to him while setting her pipe down at the door as if to show she wasn't going to attack them. She did have a small knife that was sheathed via a buckle and belt, but she wasn't going to use it without reason. Her gaze shifted along Emre's visage, from his feet up to his face as if sizing him up but she didn't lose her smile. "Hey, Emre. Yeah, it looks like we're partners. You're new here, too, or were you here for a while with them?", she asked curiously before looking around to see what kind of "chores" needed to be done, thinking the cabin would only need a small fixer-upper while she brushed her long dark-brown hair aside and over her ear for comfort since her hat was off.
Hykeem smiled as Emre and Lyndsie introduced themselves. It seemed that the group had already accepted her and was ready to get to work.
"Well then let's get started"
He walked back outside and to the truck climbing on the back and again begging to clean the truck. He oped everyone would adhere to what he had said and get started because the quicker they started the sooner they would get done and could sit and work on other things. Some Things that could and most likely would determine their fates. He continued on the task at hand cleaning the back of the truck until the others came out.
Nate looked at everyone, glad they had all seemed to agree and start working. He didn't like one thing though. This Dannie seemed to want to take over, run the show. It was as if she wanted all the power. He didn't like that, one person running the whole thing. It reminded himself to much of how the raider camp was run. One person leading everyone else who just agreed. That wouldn't sit well, he wouldn't let a dictatorship happen. She didn't even seem to adress issues, and just gave orders at random. Nate didn't like, but he didn't want to make a scene.
He saw Hykeem start to leave, "I'll be out soon. Something I have to do."
Nate walked back into the cabin an down the halls. He stopped at the room, Jake and Veran shared and knocked on the door. "Hey pirate, time to get up. Was wondering if you want to get out and go hunting. You need to do something man, can't stay in bed all day."
Veran woke as soon as the knock came at the door and he looked at the small window. It had a cover over it but now that he was awake he could see that the sun was coming through. Damnit all, he thought to himself. He was used to being able to see the sun in the morning and it woke him up. He had always had a good circadian rythm. He jumped out of bed and grabbed his coat. It was starting to warm up a little but he still needed it.
"Kraken's balls, I'm up. Wonder why Jake dint wake me."
He walked over to his boots, put them on and laced them quickly. He needed to get up and moving and so he moved quickly. Once his boots were on he went to the door and opened it.
"Alright lubber, might be I know a bit bout trackin' an trappin'. Let's get goin."
The new woman, Lyndsie, seemed nice and trustworthy. That was what first impressions gave atleast, never can be too sure. Dannie clearly thought the same as she paired her up with Emre. When she asked if he was new or not, he nodded as to confirm with the last part of her sentence. "Yeah, I've been here a while. The group was actually made when me and Dannie met" he said with a smile. He began to remember back at the cabin they were at, jesus, a lot has happened between then and now. They were much easier times, there was certainly less crazy bandits that kidnapped you and then wondered why you went batshit crazy about it.
He couldn't think about that now, he just had to continue with the work he was given. He looked towards Lyndsie and began planning a schedule as to what they would do. "Well, we have quite a lot of stuff to do, I was thinking we go and check the kitchen first for any food in there". He turned around and walked through the kitchen door.
He looked around, well it was certainly not well taken care of. The kitchen looked like utter shit, but it was still a kitchen. He walked further in towards furthest cabinet away from him, he'd start there. He opened it and didn't see much, smashed cups and plates, a couple of empty bags, shit. He kept his focus on searching, but spoke to Lyndsie. "So how did you end up here? You must've arrived when I was still sleeping"he said, continuing to search the cabinets.
"Well, I've been traveling the states, I guess you could say. Came from a race track infested with THEM, and tried to hide from them wherever I could. Until I found this place, and I've been hungry and thirsty with little to no sleep at all.", she answered, looking around towards the kitchen before walking in, and opened the furthest cabinet opposite the one Emre opened to peek inside. Voila! There was a couple trays of upside-down glasses for drinks and some more plates, with pots and pans in the next cabinet over she could see. She took a glass and held it to Emre in a sort of "look what I found" manner, smirk included.
Sterling wasn't sure what they wanted him to do at the lake. Hell, he wasn't sure what Jake and Dale were doing down at the lake but he hadn't seen a fishing pole. He knew that he couldn't get in the water, least not passed his hips, no telling what could be in the water and though his wound had closed it wasn't worth the risk. He mentally went over the other tasks that needed doing and tried to figure one that he could get done. The windows should be boarded up, but he would be no good there. His ability to stretch wasn't quite there yet. They needed to find a generator. Doubtless there was one up here. People that lived in places like this always had a knack for preparing for the worst. Something that the rest of humanity should have learned. But even if he found one he wouldn't be able to bring it back.
He could search the perimeter though and though he knew that he couldn't reliably engage the walkers hand to hand he still had a gun and his knife. If he could he would use the knife but he already knew that he would have to rely on the gun. He would look for a clean kill if he could get it done without to much strain. He would just have to hope that they were too far away from population centers for there to be too many around. That had been the plan in coming up here.
"I think Jake and Dale can handle whatever is going on at the lake. I'm going to do a perimeter sweep. If one of you wants to come I would be happy for the company."
Dannie was going to go off on her own when Sterling spoke up. He was going to leave the boys to handle the fishing and start a perimeter search. She knew he would be in too much danger doing that, especially if he was ambushed in some way. She looked at Nate, who looked annoyed at her, but they could hash all that out later. The only thing she wanted to do was make sure they had enough provisions to make sure they could just survive another night or two.
"Oh no you don't, Sterling. You're not going out alone."
She made a quick change of plans for herself. If he was going to be out and about, she would make sure he had someone to watch him. She motioned to Liz who had started to speak out against him doing the same thing and she already knew the nurse wouldn't like him doing that.
"I'm going with you."
She grabbed a gun and a hunting knife and was ready to hit the mountainside with him. As they exited, she left everyone to their own tasks and chores and hoped everyone could get them done in a timely manner. What she really hoped for was that Jake and Dale could catch some fish so they could all eat tonight. Once they were back out and at the driveway, she started to speak quietly. "Don't even think I'll let you go out alone like this. You almost got killed once. I'm not going to let that happen again."
Once at the end of the driveway, she stopped and looked around, not terribly sure where they should start first.
"Well most of that will have to wait," Nate said smiling, "got a truck to clear out first. I think there might be coffee or something if you want to grab that first. If not when you're dressed and ready meet us out front."
Nate turned to leave and walked back through the cabin. He saw Mia and walked up to her, "okay I'm going to help Hykeem clean then Veran, and us are going hunting. We'll be back. Keep this place alie while we're gone." He said smiling and kissing her cheek.
He continue walking out, not limping as bad as he had been before. When he reached the truck he pulled on a pair of work gloves and yanked a box out of the truck. He placed it on the porch and went back for another. "Least it's a good day out," he sighed picking up another item, "beats the cold where we came from."
He searched in the second cabinet, finally finding something. He found a couple bags of nuts and some cans with labels scratched off. Well, canned food usually lasted a long time and he wasn't sure about the nuts, but he took them and placed them on the counter next to him. With how the search for food was going, they way have to go out into the woods like Dannie said and try to find berries or other edible things. Lyndsie answered his question explaining where she had come from. Jesus, she went through a bit of a rough patch, no food, drink or sleep? "Well, you'll plenty of that here" he said, still searching the cabinet.
Lyndsie had found some glasses and plates, Emre smiled. "Good job, now we have something to drink out of and eat off of". He looked over to the place he put the food and pointed towards it. "Just uhh... Put them there or something". He continued to search the cabinets, nothing was found. He moved onto the fridge, that had stopped working a while ago. He opened it only to find bits of guts and gunk inside, probably from a biter. He looked at it and backed away in disgust. "Jesus christ, what the fuck did people do in here?". Maybe someone attempted to eat the biters, most likely didn't turn out too well for them.
Emre closed the fridge door and looked at Lyndsie. He gave a sigh of disappointment, they'd have to search elsewhere for more food. "Nothing else here, we'll have to go out and search the woods for some stuff, hell, maybe we'll get lucky and find an abandoned cart of food"he said with a little grin.
Lyndsie cringed in an equally-disgusted manner when she saw the guts of someone, walker or not. After putting the plates and glasses next to where Emre found the food, she heard him talking about trying to find more food elsewhere...outside? Were they going to go alone? If so, where? Not that it mattered, she'd just have to be careful since she never had to fight these things before save for a few good thwacks to the head and back with her pipe...even her sheathed knife is perfectly clean! Regardless, she gave Emre a smile and nodded, exhaling a bit. "Well, I suppose I could go out there again...I just hope to find water or some food, I haven't had anything for hours...then again, you all probably haven't, either, so I think we're in the same boat. Do you want to go alone? Would it be easier, or..?", she asked, clearly a newbie to this type of thing. She swears, if someone came up to her before this all happened and said she'd be fighting for her or other peoples' lives against the living dead instead of racing her car for money and fun, then she'd have slapped them silly.
Hykeem continued to clean the truck and when he heard the others come out he was filled with joy. He hadn't been hunting in forever and today would change all of that. He thought that the meat from the hunt would suffice but he understood that they needed a backup plan and fishing was it. He walked to the back of the truck grabbing a box after Nate and jumped down from the truck setting it on the porch.
"Your right and since its a good day we should make the best of it. Lets get this done boys."
Hykeem lightened his tone a little at the end of his sentence. He could tell Nate was a little pissed that some of the others had been giving orders and he didn't want to add to the flames of that. It was just that every job needed a different type of leader and hunting was what Hykeem did best. He climbed back onto the truck grabbing more of what seemed like junk to hykeem sliding some towards Nate before grabbing some for himself and throwing it in the box he had before. Their work seemed to be going great so far. Hopefully the hunt would be the same.
It seemed that everything had been settled on who was going to do what job. Her and Mia were assigned to setting up a medical bay and Mia agreed it could be in the loft of the cabin. She moved towards Sterling, happy he was not going alone outside and happy that Dannie was going to keep him safe. He made it very clear how he felt about his former partner and she trusted him. More importantly, she trusted Dannie to keep him safe.
"Keep him in one piece for me."
She smiled, gave a quick kiss to his cheek and turned to head up the stairs to start working on making the loft a usable space. Upstairs she found two daybeds that could easily be used for treating patients. They needed to get fresh linens for the beds and move things around to make it condusive to medical work. The roof was pitched and slanted, which would make it easy for hanging water and blood if they needed to do another transfusion. She prayed that wouldn't have to happen. They didn't have the equipment. She moved the beds vertically and placed a little nightside like table in between them. Moving towards the bathroom, she stopped and saw the sheets and towels stacked neatly inside giving her peace of mind. Inside the bathroom, she started to collect bottles of rubbing alcohol, a bottle of aspirin and some Pepto Bismol that looked unopened.
It certainly wasn't much for them to work with.

Veran was extremely groggy. He had been drinking the night before and had probably overdone it a little, judging by the headache that he had. It wasn't extremely bad so he would be able to do what he needed to do.
"Yer getting too old ta be drinking like that ye stupid pirate."
He didn't talk to himself a lot but he did from time to time. Normally to chastise himself, like he had just now. He smiled to himself. He really didn't think he would listen to his own chastisement. Maybe eventually he would learn but likely not this time. He strapped his belt on and adjusted his saber. His pistol and marlins pike were on the nightstand and he quickly grabbed them and dropped them into place.
"Time ta get Yer as movin' scallywag."
He opened the door and walked out towards the main living area and then out the door.
"Of course you won't. Will be nice to go on patrol with you again anyways rookie."
He laughed and then Liz kissed his cheek. He could tell that she was in get shut done mode and so he let her go, not before sneaking a peak at her very nice ass. He looked back to Dannie.
"Yeah, I'm sure you saw that."
If she hadn't he was sure that she would ask but he wouldn't tell her. She had always been extremely good at observing her surroundings and he would be surprised if she hadn't noticed.
He looked around to try and get his bearings and analyze the best way for them to tackle the perimeter search. It looked like the best way would be to just go straight out to the perimeter and circle around the perimeter. Hopefully they would find something so that their trip wasn't for nothing.
"Let's just go straight out to the perimeter and then circle around."
Nate carried more boxes from inside the truck to the porch. He saw Veran come out and smiled, "good to see you amoungst the living, well kinda," he said setting down another box. "Think we are about ready to go. Hykeem's right, shouldn't waste such a beautiful day."
Once the last of the supplies were cleared Nate let out a sigh of relief. "There last one," he said setting it down, "let's get going. I haven't been hunting in ages. So how do you want to do this?" He looked at the three men. "Who's driving? You take lead on this run Hykeem. You're the Hunter and it's your run."
Nate walked aroun the truck. "We have two rifles, automatic Fire, and a hunting rifle. Do we want to use all these. How much does your blunderbuss carry?"
Hykeem smiled as his pal handed proclaimed him leader of the run. Hunting had been his thing since he was a small child and he was glad to see that even the Apocalypse couldn't ruin that. He lifted his hand over his eyes shielding them from an annoying ray of sunlight.
"It's your truck so you should drive and as for the weaponry i've got my own hunting rifle and some ammo which would allow for you both to use those two rifles. Also we shouldn't go in firing all crazy just because we have extra ammo. The noise attracts the Face Munchers and will scare off tonights dinner."
Hykeem rubbed the top off his head before scratching an itch behind his ear and continuing.
"When we find the perfect place to leave the truck not too far and not too close to wherever we are going to hunt we should first find something to cover our scent. Make us smell more like nature. Rubbing some Hemlock over ourselves should do the trick. its a little trick my dad taught me when I was younger. After that we get somewhere and scout and wait. The rest we don't have much control of Maybe if we had some corn but we don't have food like that to be wasting."
He sat down in the bed of the truck sweeping his hand in a forward motion.
"Well lets go men the deer wont hunt themselves."
He laughed a little at his own sarcasm bringing a smile to his face.
Emre stayed in the kitchen with Lyndsie until they had finally sorted everything and were ready. The food he'd expect to find berries, fruits, maybe Emre's little joke would come true and they'd find a cart full of food. Lyndsie spoke about not eating or drinking in a while, Emre coildn't share the same feeling. "Actually, we were okay for food not too long ago, the last time I ate was about a day or so ago" he said, hoping it didn't sound like he was rubbing it in her face. She also asked him if she should come, Emre quickly nodded. "Hell yeah, I'm gonna need a few extra hands to help with getting food. Plus, we need someone to watch eachother's backs" he said with a small grin growing on his face. He walked over to the kitchen door, signalling Lyndsie to follow. He then walked out of the cabin door and made his way over to woods.
He entered, it was quiet as hell. He was glad the sun could still make it through the trees or else finding food would be hard as fuck. He continued to walk forward, but shouted back to Lyndsie. "Just look around for stuff, berries, nuts, possibly dead animals. Maybe give me shout if you need a hand". Emre saw a bush nearby where he was walking. He quickly walked over, knealt down and picked a few berries from it. "So what did you say you did before all of this? A racer was it... ?".
Lyndsie smiled and nodded as she heard what Emre said, that they'd have to go and forage by themselves for the group. Well, if it was a mere supply run, it should be fine...assuming they don't run into trouble, the living or the dead kind. She tagged along beside Emre, keeping a small glance around occasionally, though also seemed to squint at times as if straining to see further...near-sighted perhaps? Regardless, she glanced at Emre with a nod to his questions, duly noting his order in that she was to look for berries, nuts, and animals...the latter, she didn't want to find. She wasn't the hunter type. She doesn't even know how to use a gun, much less hold one, or to fight. But with everything else, that comes with experience and time. She heard her companion's question and nodded with a slight smirk as if proud. "Yeah, I was a professional racer. And when I wasn't the one on my crew racing, I also worked as a promotional model--a well-dressed one, mind you!--to show support. I often wore jackets, shirts, and shorts along with hats and a headset, all with my crew's colors and maybe an emblem.", she explained, their situation too...dark and close-to-home for her to care about her image to THAT extent any longer, though did glance to Emre as if to see his reaction.
