As Ryan got close to another Walker and stuck his knife in its head, he saw that the girl was also helping them. He was surprised at how adept she was at killing Walkers. But he didn't let her distract him as he moved on to the next Walker.
They continued, taking out Walkers in quick succession as they came thick and fast from further down the road. Ryan wasn't sure if they had followed the girl here or not, but what he was sure of is that if they'd stayed in the store then they would have been trapped. It was good that they'd left when they had, really. Though, it would have been better if they'd left sooner and avoided the Walkers altogether.
Ryan was in the process of taking out another Walker when he saw Toby in trouble, watching as a Walker took him by surprise from the bushes next to the road. Stabbing his Walker in the head quickly, leaving a jagged and gaping hole in its forehead, he sprinted off towards the other man as he she struggled to keep the Walker off of him.
“Toby!” He found himself shouting desperately, panic etched in his voice as he watched the Walkers teeth grow ever closer to his boyfriends neck.
Wendy saw the man who helped her fall with a walker on top of him. She ran over to him and quickly stabbed it in the skull, its walker blood sprayed back onto her. She pushed the walker off of him and held out her hand to help him up.
The Walkers' gnarling teeth were getting closer and closer to Toby's neck as he tried and failed to push it off of himself. He was sure that this was it. He was going to get bitten and die. He was going to make Ryan loose another love. But maybe it was better this way, at least he wouldn't have to deal with all of this anymore...
And then the girl was there. She took out the Walker and pushed it away, freeing him. He collapsed backwards onto the floor as the Walker fell in the other direction. He hit the ground with a thud and he saw Ryan running over.
“Thank you,” Toby said to the girl between deep breathe and she held her hand out to him, he took it and she pulled him to a standing position, “you saved my life” he told her, grateful for what she'd done.
Ryan reached them finally and grabbed a hold of Toby, hugging him tightly as though letting go meant they'd never be together again.
Ryan thought he'd lost Toby as he approached, imagining the Walker tearing out his throat. He imagined Toby dying in his arms as he sobbed uncontrollably, loosing yet another love.
He saw the bright orange hair before he realised that the girl was there with Toby. He saw her stab it and push it away. And by the time he'd reached them, she'd pulled Toby to his feet.
“Thank god!” Ryan said as he grabbed Toby and pulled him into a tight embrace, holding onto him and not wanting to let go. He soon realised that he was crying and buried his head in Toby's shoulder as the younger man wrapped his arms around him.
“I'm okay” he said, patting him on the back.
Ryan pulled away and put his hands on either side of Toby's face, meeting his eyes “I thought I'd lost you” he said, his voice cracking under the weight of his tears. But he held them back, trying to stay strong.
They stayed like that for a few seconds before he turned to the girl.
“Thank you for helping him!” he told her, his voice full of emotion as he put his hand on her shoulder.
Wendy watched the men embrace eachother, they must have been brothers or best friends. She wiped the blood off her knife and put it away. Slowly she began to back away, she wanted company but she didn't want trouble. Would these men accept her and travel with her? She didn't know what they would do. The moment when she had opened her eyes to find the place empty, she never wanted to feel the panic and fear she had at that time again.
The other man thanked her, she just nodded her head. She wanted so badly to not be alone but was more afraid of what they could do to her when her back was turned.
Toby felt a little shook up at what had happened, knowing that he'd come pretty close to the end. But he was alive thanks to the girl and he was grateful for that. He thought back to that moment just before he'd been saved, when he'd accepted death. It made him feel guilt, having accepted to leave Ryan alone in this world. If he was going to die, he should of gone out fighting to live.
He watched as Ryan thanked the girl and saw the look in her eye that he thought was fear, but it could just be nerves. Of course, she didn't know them and they had just emerged from the store that she thought was empty. She'd probably that they'd been watching her while she was inside, despite the fact that their intentions were not malevolent. On the other hand, they had saved her life. And she'd saved Toby.
He slipped his machete back into its sheath on his belt and moved closer to the girl, bending down in front of her so that he they were on the same level.
“Thank you,” he said, his voice calmer than before, “you saved me back there. If you hadn't then-” he broke off, thinking about what could have happened. “What's your name?” he asked with a kind smile.
The girl nodded and Ryan raised to his full height again, giving her a smile before looking at Toby as he dropped to one knee.
He stood there, listening to the sound of Toby's voice as he addressed the girl. He savoured every syllable that fell from the younger man's lips, thinking that if thing had gone differently then Toby could be dead right now.
He didn't like to think about that so he started thinking about something else. He turned his attention to the road, glancing at all of the bodies that were sprawled across it in undignified positions. He scanned the area for more of them, just in case they'd missed any. Everything seemed to be quiet.
And then he came back to his senses, to before he'd emerged from the store and noticed the Walkers. Yes, this girl had helped them... but she could still be dangerous!
“Are you on your own out here?” he asked, his force a little more forceful than he'd intended.
She stared up at the two men who had suddenly became a part of her life, they'd appeared just in time to save her and she had done the same for him. The young man she had just saved knelt before her talking in a calming voice as if speaking to a skittish kitten. Maybe she was skittish, it wasn't difficult to understand why, being abandoned and left in a vulnerable state can make someone become a little untrustworthy.
She opened her mouth to answer the young man's question, he voice came out shaking and sounded small, "W-w-wendy."
She noticed the man behind him standing above her with a frightening demeanor, he asked if she was alone. This question frightened her, what would he do with this information? Was he planning to do something to her if she was alone? Or was he too frightened of strangers and what they might do to him and his friend? While she thought over her answer she hugged herself slightly and answered again in her small voice, "I-I-I'm alone... I've been alone for some time..."
[OOC: Sorry for the late reply, I woke up late for school and have been busy until a few moments ago.]
Toby gave Ryan a look of mild frustration at the way he'd asked the question. Whilst he himself was taking on a calming approach, Ryan seemed to be trying to interrogate the poor girl.
“Wendy, hey? That's a nice name” he said with a wide grin, choosing to ignore Ryan's abrupt question and the answer she'd provided for the time being. They'd get to that later, for now he just wanted to welcome her. Though he did feel a pang of sympathy for the girl when she said she'd been alone for a while.
“My name's Toby and this here man is my boyfriend, Ryan” he told her, giving Ryan a fleeting look. “Forgive him for his tone, he's a little paranoid about strangers” he told with a wave of the hand.
So the girl really was alone. There weren't any people hiding in the bushes, waiting to attack them... he should have known really. If she had people watching her then they would have helped her when the Walkers attacked. Unless they knew she could handle it... maybe it was all planned, the Walkers and all...?
No, he was clutching at straws here. The girl said she was alone and she had no obvious reason to lie. Nevertheless, when Toby told her their names he did feel a little uneasy.
All those dreams he had of them; finding other people and starting a community. This was not what he'd expected. Now they had a child with them who, despite the fact that she could hold her own, was an extra person for Ryan to take care of and protect. He wasn't sure if he could handle the responsibility. Since the Motel, he'd always said that he would choose to save Toby's life over any other if it came to it. But could he really do that when the outcome meant a young girl could die? He couldn't loose Toby, but he couldn't loose a child under his care either.
He bent down in front of the girl, parallel to Toby, and opened his mouth to speak, “how old are you?” he asked her, his voice a lot calmer than it had been before.
Wendy look at the man as he posed his question, "Thirteen, well I think so. Hard to keep track of the days."
She looked back down at her hands, fidgeting in the silence. Finally the silence was too much, she spoke up.
"Look I understand not wanting to let me in, I'm hesitant to even join you," she looked the man named Ryan in the eyes, "If it makes everything easier. I'm camped out down the road, if you're worried about me you can walk me back stay for a little while. If we still feel the same later then you guys can hit the road again."
Toby felt better that Ryan was more civilised towards the younger girl, rather than interrogating her like he had done before. He knew that Ryan wasn't as trusting as he was, but he also knew that this girl, Wendy, wasn't a threat to them. He could feel it.
Wendy went on to explain her views on the two of them and invited them back to her camp. Toby was sure that she was being genuine and that she had no malicious intentions.
He gave the girl a small and reassuring smile as he stood up and waited for Ryan to reply.
Wendy was right. Ryan was worried about her and about trusting her. Though he'd realised that she didn't pose much of a threat herself, he was still wary of what she could be up to. When she mentioned taking them back to her camp, alarm bells started ringing in his head.
He thought about it for a moment. Was she leading them into a trap?
She very well could be, but he decided against arguing for Toby's sake. He knew how Toby would react if he did argue and he'd rather not have to deal with that. He was sure that whatever, if any, threat was waiting for them at the camp, they could face it if need be.
“Sure,” he replied, his voice apprehensive, “take us back with you...”
Wendy eyed Ryan when he spoke, she didn't like the tone of voice he'd just used. She was opening herself up to them, they were going to know where she slept and he was suspicious? She glared at him, this was going to be a long day.
She sighed and turned her attention to her bag, double checking that she hadn't lost anything. Turing to look down the road Wendy pointed at an old laundry mat, "It's not far." She put her backpack on and looked up at the men, " When ever you guys are ready. "

Peter had parked the RV across the street from an abandoned laundry mat. After he'd picked up the wonderful invention, he'd covered the outside with blood and guts, as well as some mud and what might have been animal excrement. This was so that he could have a good night sleep without the worry of a walker breaking down the door. Sleeping was a commodity and he was going to enjoy this luxury as long as he had it, he wasn't going to let traveling alone stop him. He sleep soundly even though the sun had risen some time ago, on the edge of sleep he was more aware of his surroundings then he might realize.
Toby followed the girls eyes to a laundry mat further along the road and wondered whether or not she had been staying inside of it. Had they passed right by her the night before on their way to the convenience store? Surely not, they were so cautious that Toby was certain they would have realised if someone was nearby.
He caught Ryan's eye before they started down the street after the girl as she took the lead.
(OOC: Sorry I've been so long, had some internet troubles but it's all sorted now )
“Let's go” he said in a rather jolly that surprised him. It made him think back to the group they'd been with before. There's been children with them and it was strange to now be standing in the presence of another child. Even if she was the polar opposite of Amy. Ryan wondered if Toby felt the same way about the girl as they followed her towards the laundry mat.
He gripped the handle of his Glock, just as a precaution should anything go awry.
Wendy lead the way down the road to her little camp. She was quite, silently wondering how this was all going to play out. It made her nervous to say the least. She was admiring the RV she could barely make out last night when she moved into her camp, when she noticed a shadow in the window. She stopped dead in her tracks.
Shauna Kelly: That helped, thank you
