Remy had been on foot for a while now and she wasn't exactly sure where she was going. She knew she was closer to the Settlement, but she wasn't sure by how much. The sounds of the gunshots could still be heard considering there was nothing to dampen the noise. No highway traffic, no planes flying overhead, no boats on the lake. Nothing but the sounds of the wind and gunfire now.
As she edged around the lake, she used the trees to help her get through the melting snow and mud covered ground as the leaves crunched beneath her boots. From the noise though came a sight she was expecting to see. Walkers.
Three of them drawn towards the noise were coming her way, but they weren't looking at her. They were going for the noise, which gave her another advantage. She could let them go to the QRT or just take them out here. At least it would be three less they group would have to deal with it. As quietly as she could move, she let them pass, keeping herself hidden behind the trees and the brush until she could get enough space to work around and come up behind them. The two closest would have their heads chopped clean off with the machete, even though the mouths still moved. The last one started to turn and she was able to rush up and slice at the guts. She pushed it back towards a tree, pinning it with a foot as she shoved the machete through the head.
Once it slumped down she left the struggle behind and headed towards the east again, leaving the trail of dead walkers and footprints behind.

Remy's steps were careful and deliberate as she took her time to traverse through the forest that looped around the lake like a ring around Saturn. In some parts it was dense, never meant to be penetrated by civilization, while in other parts she found hiking trails and landmarks that would help any lost hiker find their way back to the road. But she was not looking for the road. She was the one that was looking to get lost. With little supplies she knew she would have to get to some shelter soon or she would quite possibly freeze to death overnight. She hoped to find another abandoned cabin that she could hunker down in overnight.
There were lots of dead and moist things on the ground like twigs, leaves and mushrooms that were starting to sprout from the winter's discarded life but what seemed to be most helpful was a large branch that broke off, probably in one of the many storms that blew through over the season. She shaved off the excess rotting bark and leaves that stuck to it and used it as a perfect walking stick to get her through the muddy forest. There was still snow on the ground, but slowly it was starting to melt away as the season started to warm, although not by much. She was still happy she had her heavy jacket, gloves and scarf.
The entire day was spent walking and trying to drink as little water as she could but there was only so much she could do before her energy came to a complete halt and she was using more calories then she was taking in. She had to break and eat the food she brought with her as the sun continued to sink in the sky. She couldn't exactly tell, but she believed it was probably around 3 p.m. now with the way the shadows her cast across the forest and she knew it was time to settle in for the night. There were several cabins that lined the lake and it seemed the walkers had already been cleared from the area or just didn't exist. Maybe this was the reason Ellen chose to settle near the lake. The only sounds she could hear now were the chirps of hungry birds and the shuffling of leaves as she walked through them. It seemed, at this very moment, that everything was perfect. They needed to let her go.
Her eyes moved to the three little cabins that sat side by side along the banks of the lake. Like Goldilocks, she would have to find the one that was just right.

It had been a long day walking through the trees, along roads, and in to the brush. Ethan legs wwlete begining to get sore. He couldnt keep doing this, couldn't keep walking day in and day out. He wasn't built from walking long distances. If their car hadn't broke down this would have been a lot easier.
"Where's the next stop," he asked his travelling conpanion. Pulling his bag tighter he leaned on the large stick he had picked up earlier. His feet dragged along, kicking up rocks, dirt and melting snow.
"We should be there soon. There suppose to be cabins along here," the young brunette said looking at her map.
"That's good. We making good time then?"
"Not as good as yesterday. These cabins could be a lie. The other ones weren't there, just a pile of snow.
"Maybe we should stop. Take a break," Ethan said flicking the stick up, "I'm getting tired."
Theressa reached into her bag and handed a bottle of water. "Let's just rehydrate and keep going," she said smiling.
Ethan took a sip and then handed the bottle to her. She took a sip and put it away.
Soon the neared some cabins and kept walking along. "Hey I think someone is there," Ethen said pointing, "not a biter. Let's just stay down and keep quiet. I'll move forward and you can stay here."
He handed Theressa the SMG and moved toward the women.
"Hey. Don't shoot," he said calmly, "just alerting my precense don't want to alarm you."

Remy contemplated which cabin to go inside. They were probably vaguely alike with small nuances inside to make any visitor feel welcome. She moved slowly around the cabins, looking inside the windows as she held the machete in her hand. She was looking out for the dead when she should have been keeping her eyes open for the living. She heard footsteps crunching against the leaves and she could only assume it was a walker. She tightened her grip around the handle and when Ethan popped out and almost introduced himself.
She stopped in place and looked at him with a wild, harsh stare. She looked over her shoulder and back to the man who seemed to come out of nowhere. She wondered if he came from the Settlement or if he was just another stranger in a strange land. Of course, she had no gun so him asking her not to shoot was a bit moot.
"I ain't gonna shoot, but you can stop right there."
She did not put that machete away and she actually thought about the spiked bat she left behind back at Bear Lake. She had no idea how she was going to get it back. Maybe they would let her back in to get her things, what little there were...or maybe she would just have ot leave it all behind and start over again.
"Who are you and where did you come from?"

Stepping towar her hands raised Ethan smiled "Just regular introduction now," He said eyeing her. She didn have gun but he still said that to everyone they came across, quicker to just assume everyone had a gun. He eyed the machete and lowered his hands. He was far enough away that it wouldn't hit him. She'd have to be fast.
"Just came from down the road," Ethan said pointing with his thumb the direction they walked down. "Didn't think anyone was here. Just looking for a place to catch my breath. Get out of the cold before it gets colder."
He wasn't close enough to offer his hand for shake, other wise he would have. "Listen my names Ethan. I'm not looking to harm or rob you, just for a place to rest."
He though of Theressa crouched in the woods, she would have her gun aimed at the women. She wouldn't hesitste to shoot if the women Attacked.

She had no reason to trust this man considering where she just came from. She remembered the outside group that had been shot at, for what they claimed, was no good reason. She knew Ellen and Charlie were out of control, especially Charlie, which was why she had to leave. She couldn't have that psychopath following her around. She'd be damned if she would end up tied to a tree and legless like the first girl she saw in the woods because Charlie didn't like the way she walked or talked. As far as she knew, this man was part of the Settlement, although she didn't recognize him.
"You better hope they all have fireplaces then."
She paused for a moment and looked past him, then back to the houses again. She would stay alone tonight and she had her mind made up about that. She needed to think about how she was going to get word back to Luca that she was okay. He was tied up fighting walkers with Randall and the rest of the group some miles away. She knew he would know, but would he come after her like he did the first time? There's only so many times he would chase after her, she was sure of that.
"I'm Remy. You can lay claim to one of these places. I haven't cleared anything inside yet, but don't try anything with me. I know what I'm doing out here."
"I wouldn't dream of anything sweetie," Ethan said smiling, "I don't doubt you can handle yourself. Now why don't we work together to clear these cabins out. It would be faster. Safer. I'll even let you have first pick at the one you want. First come first serve."
He leaned on the walking stick. If he could clear out the cabin Theressa could scout the area. He wondered if the girl was alone, or if her group would be close by. Having one of them watch her and one of them watch the perimeter would be the best solution.
"So what do you say? Sound like a plan? Little teamwork? Get to know each other," Ethan asked. "Were you just a traveller? Wander? Or is there a destination in mind?"
Post by Remy LaCroix on Apr 3, 2015 6:19:21 GMT -5
"Sweetie? Is that what you call all strange girls? You don't know that I'm sweet in the least."
In a way, she kind of liked the little nickname but she had to make sure he wasn't about to take advantage of that. If he wanted to address her, he could use her real name and not a little pet name. That was reserved for people she was close with and right now, that was no one.
Still, she had no idea about the companion that was hiding in the bushes and she lowered the machete as she started to look towards the first house on her left. It wasn't big and she suspected it was one or two bedrooms with an open back porch towards the lake where steam continued to rise.
"Fine. We can work together to clear anything out. I haven't heard anything, other then you around here so we may be okay."
She certainly wasn't looking to start or join another group. The reason she broke away was to go back out on her own where things seemed to work in her favor. When he asked what she was, she wouldn't tell him the entire truth and considering what had just happened she wasn't even sure if she had a particular destination.
"Just a wanderer. Just a warning though. There's a settlement nearby and the people inside may come. If they come, we need to leave. The last group they came across got shot up by those people after ambushing the group. We should leave by sunrise."
"Matter of fact that is what I call them. Anyone younger too," Ethan said moving forward. He didn't like not having a weapon. He had the stick but his gun wasn't on him. It made him feel defeneless. "Didn't mean any harm by it. Just trying to be friendly."
He started to walk toward the cabin, glad she was willing to work together. If they could get it cleared he could sleep for the night. Wasn't exactly looking for company but talking to someone new would be nice. Before all thi he was social, very social. Now he was forced to be by himself, repeat the same questions day in an day out.
"So this settlement, they must be bad people? You're obvioduly running from them? They didn't hurt you did they? Said that they shot people? Bad people," he asked moving up the steps to the cabin. Slowly he open the door and looked inside. Taking his stick he knocked it against the outside wall, trying to alert and biter inside.

Remy couldn't help but chuckle as he said he called all women that, especially younger gals. She wasn't in a terrible mood, as a matter of fact, she was in a good mood as she proved to herself that she could hold her own against walkers. As long as it wasn't a big horde that would run her over` and eat her alive, she could manage well enough. She followed him as she moved around the side of the house, keeping a good eye on him. The only reason she was more stern with him was because he took her by surprise when he found her at the row of cabins. It was probably a good idea to not be here alone overnight. At least if there was someone in the cabin next door, they could give each other fair warning if something was about to happen.
"So you're some kind of ladies' man then?"
She picture Luca to be the same although he never used any condescending nick name for her. At least this guy was pretty straight forward.
"Not bad people, but not good people either. Just..."
She had to think about her words for a moment if she was going to convey how she felt about them. She wasn't really sure. What kind of people were they? "Young and paranoid. They want to keep their military rules and laws in a world where that shit don't exist no more. They think the only way to exist is by putting a gun to someone's head and making them do what they want but when they run out of bullets they won't have any idea how to keep themselves together."
She nodded as she held up her machete, knowing that was the way to go. Hell, even Luca felt that having a gun gave him more power, but he would run out of bullets too. There was no infinate supply of bullets and that was a fact a lot of people hadn't really grasped yet. It was one of many reasons why she didn't have gun, but nothing that she would reveal to the stranger. She tapped the blade of her machete against the glass of the window that faced towards the front door of the cabin where Ethan was while she waited for a reaction from within.
"What about you? Where'd you come from? You been with a group yet?"
When she asked if he was a ladies man Ethan just laughed. "Farthest thing from," he said between laughs. "Defiently not a ladies man. I call everyone sweetie, don't take it personal."
He listened to her explain the group as he watched the inside of the cabin. There was no movement. He figured it was probably clear, or if there was biters in there they were trapped. "Well your probably lucky to have gotten out. They sound like trouble. Will they come after you? Should we be expecting company.
He walke into the cabin, "I was In a couple groups. Mostly small ones. One fell apart cause of power hungry people. Others I lost along they way cause of the biters."

Remy looked at Ethan as she waited for the walkers to come to the window. He called everyone sweetie and she started to question if he called both men and women sweetie. Not that it was really any of her business. She watched the way he moved as they waited for the sounds of the living dead and when he asked if anyone was coming for her, it made her think. Would they try to follow her or just leave her alone now? If she were any closer, she figured they would come and grab her and give her the third degree about not helping them take care of a horde. Even if she did try and explain, she was pretty certain they would not hear what she was saying anyways since their preconceived notions seemed to be the loudest voices in their heads anyways, at least when it came to Ellen and Charlie. But she was far enough away now that they would not come. Why would they? To try and save her so they could blow their own trumpets on how heroic they are? She wouldn't fall for it. "I don't know. I left on my own earlier and they followed me. There was a horde up the road though and I slipped away while they were blowing them all away. Let's hope this time they will leave me alone."
No sounds. She was ready to go inside the cabin and as her hand jiggled at the doorknob, she discovered the door was open. The locks had not been busted so it didn't look like anyone broke in, but an open door usually meant trouble.
"So there's still a chance that they might come. They chased you before. These people sound crazy. Crazy protective, and crazy power hungry, no offense," Ethan said looking at her, "this hoard. How far away was it? There a chance it will defeat your friends and make its way here? Or did they mostly pick them off," he asked, thinking of Theressa in the brush. If there was a hoard coming she'd need to move closer to them. Once they had the cabins cleared he would call her back in, she could hide and stay at the one he would claim.
He watched her jiggle the handle and open the door. Having it just open like that made his hairs stand on end. Usually places were locked up. No signs of forced entry meant that the door was meant to be unlocked.
"Let's hope the people just left in a hurry and forgot to lock the door," Ethan said letting out a sigh of relief. "Don't hete anything, so you should be goo to go. I would appreciate it if you assisted in the removal of any 'Walker' in the other two cabins. We should clear them all out, incase there are any in the last ones, and decided they want to have some fun late at night."
Post by Remy LaCroix on Apr 5, 2015 5:58:10 GMT -5
Ethan had a lot of questions for her about the Bear Lake Settlement people. There was a reason she didn't know much about them and that was her own doing. Caring meant pain and she had been through far too much to want to care about anyone else. Of course Luca managed to slip under her skin and she was already thinking about him. Maybe, just maybe, he would come looking for her.
"There's still a chance, yes. But I don't know why. I ain't never did anything to them so they got no reason to hunt me. And as far as that horde, I wouldn't worry about it. They are using all their firepower on it. You probably heard it from a distance."
Remy watched as he opened the door to his cabin and as she slipped in, she was cautious. Overly cautious. She moved quietly and slowly through the house. With the curtains drawn back she could see the rise of dust that had accumulated as the sun streamed in through the window panes. She wondered how long it had been since movement happened in this cabin. It could have been months before this outbreak even happened.
Then the smell hit her. The stench of decay and death. She had to cover her mouth and nose with her shirt as she gagged at the smell. It was normally a smell that seemed to be everywhere, but here, it had clearly just been sitting in a closed space.
"I got dead ones in here," she called out to Ethan, tracking down the stench to one of the rooms. When she opened the door, she quickly slammed it open in case something came after her, but what she saw was a gruesome scene. Two dead and a handgun laying by the side of one of the bodies. The smell nearly knocked her over as she was the first to find the murder-suicide victims. She would have been a fool to leave the handgun behind, so she went in, pulled it away and closed the door behind her. She would have to seal off the room if she wanted to stay the night here. Burning the bodies would alert others that she was here so taking that chance was out of the question.
Shutting the door behind her, she went to the bathroom and gathered up what she could in the way of towels to make a seal underneath the door where the dead people were and it seemed to work. She jammed them as deep as she could beneath the opening of the door to just hole up that smell and give her a chance to rest overnight. She knew with the smell of the dead at least in one of the rooms, walkers would leave her alone.
Ethan moved into the cabin, stick raised ready to smash. He caught a whiff of the stench and nearly vomited. He swallowed it down, praying the next two didnt smell like that. He leaned against the wall, trying to gain colour back in his face.
"Were they Biters? Or dead biters," Ethan asked watching her bunch up the towels. "Was there anything useful we should pull out of there first? We don't have to kill them do we? Hate getting blood on me."
He looked up at her and tried to smile, "maybe we should open a window. Air this place out. Give you some room to breath. Clear the smell."
"Clear the smell, I think that's just about right," Luca coughed as he approached Remy and the unknown man. "Damn, girl, I gotta hand it to ya, you're good at runnin away. But shit, at least tell me where you're headed!" He smiled warmly at the blonde woman, and looked over to her companion, his smile fading. "This your friend? I'm Luca. Friend of Remy's. My buddy Randall's just outside, now." He added the comment about Randall just in case Ethan was to try something, but the man didn't seem like a bad guy. Just an unfamiliar face, and Luca wouldn't risk his life--or Remy's or even Randall's.
Luca placed his hands on his hips and focused on Remy once more. "I take it, after what happened, you're not much a fan of Bear Lake, huh?" he laughed as he spoke.
Randall groaned when Luca demanded they follow Remy after the episode on the woods. He knew they had to, but Luca's insistence annoyed him. Like an excited toddler. Given the chaotic separation of everyone, Remy wasn't too difficult to follow. Still, the two men had to be on their guard--and they were. Luca was good at that, despite being hot-headed.
As they approached a house that looked as good as any to search, Luca and Randall both stopped immediately at the sight of a woman outside. Randall raised his gun and narrowed his eyes. "We don't want any trouble. Just looking for a friend. Blonde woman. Remy's her name. You seen her?" Randall and Luca took a few steps closer.
"My friend here's gonna take a look inside, that alright?" Randall wasn't really asking--he nodded towards the door, signaling for Luca to enter.

"Just dead ones, hon." She looked back to Ethan and smiled. He called her sweetie, she called him hon. Of course it was a nice pet name that southern women seemed to use, herself included. For her it was more of a term of endearment that she hadn't used in a very long time.
"Murder, suicide."
She finished sealing up the room with the towels, which helped with the smell in the main room immensely. Her next move would be to go through the bathroom and the bedrooms to look for clothes or other personal items she could pilfer. However, when she came out with her eyes on the ground, she was taken by surprise by the voice of Luca. She startled and stopped looking up at him. She certainly wasn't hard to track, but she didn't know he really come to find her. After all she did slip away twice.
"This...this is Ethan. And the smell of the dead keeps the walkers away." She looked past him and saw Randall with his gun raised.
"Who else is with you? Just Randall?"
Just Randall. She didn't hear the loudmouth Charlie or Logan's low rumble. She didn't hear any cars waiting or any guns drawn, but she didn't trust the fact they weren't surrounded. From what she knew from the last group that was captured, they were ambushed. She wouldn't talk to him outside with the possibility of anyone else being outside and hearing them. She went back inside the little cabin she just cleared, keeping the door open to air it out a bit more.
Her voice lowered as she spoke. Randall and Ethan may be able to hear her but anyone else would not see or hear a damn thing from her.
"I can't be there. I can't be trailed by that psychopath. Remember when we were first driving in to the settlement and I looked into the woods? You asked me if I was okay. I found a woman, tied to a tree with her legs cut off. She died there. She was left to die there, Luca. I know that wasn't some random act and I think Charlie did it. I ain't gonna be the next poor girl tied to a tree with her limbs cut off."
She sighed and pushed her hair back out of her eyes keeping one hand on her hip as she looked up at him.
"When you go back, tell them you found me and tell them I'm safe. I'm going to be okay, but I can't stay there."
She had an idea of where she wanted to go, but she would keep that to herself until she could figure out a plan how to get there.
"Aah the cowards way out of the world," Ethan said looking down, "wouldn't be the first time I've found bodies like that now. Probably won't be the last either. Guess some people really don't want to keep fighting." He walked around leaning on his stick, more for somethig to do they actualy support.
He heard the voice of a man start talking and listened. "Yes friend...er aquantince... Well we just met. I'm Ethan."
The man then spoke of his friend and he swallowed a lump in his throat. He saw the man raise his gun outside, "could you please tell your friend to stand down? She won't hurt anyone. She's with me. Your friend was back up so is the girl."
He turned and looked at Remy, "wow you weren't wrong. They would really hunt you down. Resilient aren't they. Or are these the good ones," he asked rasing a brow, "not the tie you to a tree and leave you to die ones?"
----
OutsideTheressa looked at the man in front of her. She had dropped the gun in the commotion and raised her hands so the man wouldn't shoot her. "Easy im one of the good ones. I'm with Ethan, the man in the house with that friend of yours. I'm out here just keeping watch. What do you want with this friend of yours? She a prey that slipped town? Wouldn't put out for you and your buddy? Came to finish her off?"
Luca raised an eyebrow at Remy's words, and Ethan's last comments. A woman tied to a tree? No legs? Charlie? Charlie was a hothead, no doubt about it. But killing and mutilating people? Bear Lake seemed like a safe, stable place. Ellen, Randall....seemed like good people. No way would they let that happen. Luca lowered his voice to a whisper so that Randall wouldn't hear. "He won't hurt your friend," he reassured Ethan. "But look, Remy, that's a....heavy accusation. You sure Bear Lake's doing that? I mean, I could talk to Randall. Maybe he could get to the bottom of it."
Luca looked over his shoulder to see Randall with a lowered gun, not even looking at the new woman anymore. He must have known Luca found Remy, or maybe the woman told him. No way to tell. But Luca's mind was not at ease after what Remy and Ethan said.
