Clementine couldn't believe she'd be 17 soon. Less than a month if the weather patterns held. Maybe the folk of the Free City of San Francisco had made a point of keeping track of the current official Old World date and year among the other Old World knowledge and tech they've been collecting all along, but out here on the so-called Northern Frontier, many people still had little use for any more precision in their time keeping than what season it was.
The girls of Los Conejos Vampiros were no exception. In their day to to day lives, it just wasn't worth the effort to keep track of days themselves. Keeping track of the seasons was all they needed to keep track of the passing years, and since summer would be here soon, so would Clem's birthday.
Her upcoming birthday was the exactly why Los Conejos Vampiros had made the trip down from their home on the Montunui Ranch down to the Castle. The City's northernmost open air bazaar was the closest and most opportune place to find everything they might want for a post-apocalyptic birthday party. One trip there would easier and less dangerous than multiple scavenging trips of their own. On the off chance they couldn't find what they need, making a party with what was already around the ranch was always an option.
Clem glanced on over to her adopted big sister, Dakota. These days, big was not so apparent. It had been years since Dakota was taller than Clem. In the last year, Clementine had finally stopped growing though, all of 5'5” Not tall, but still taller than the slightly older Dakota. María and the little ones, Lee and Tina, had come along too. Clementine glanced between them all as they came as a group into the Castle's courtyard, the actual open air part of the open air bazaar here. Do we really need to look for party supplies already? We still got some time to plan”
