Nate looked at Hykeem, "good to see you brother. Was afraid I missed you," he smiled and put his hand on the mans shoulder. He saw him hug Mia, and her react to it, but didn't really care, he knew Hykeem was harmless. The man would intentionally hurt any of them. He was a good man, Nate liked that.
The one named Dannie spoked and Nat just nodded. "Don't think anything of it. I wouldn't let inncoent people die. It's just not who I am. If it wasn't your group it would have been over another. Just glad I could help. Besides the only two people I actually cared about there are here. Well there was that one couple, Nick and Alpha Alpha, think they left before I did though." He smiled, "I know what it's like out there. What the world has become. I wasn't at Bear Lake long, but they were getting vulnerable."
He leaned back on his heels and stuck his hands in his pockets, "Georgia, it's warm there right? Alligators?" He smiled, "never been, never even went past the border before all this. To think I'd have travelled from North Western Canada to there. It's crazy. Sound like a plan though. I'll travel with you, that is if you'll have me."
It would have been hard to keep track of what everyone was saying even if he was at the top of his game but with him still injured and constantly distracted by the pain he couldn't follow what was going on to save his life. He did catch some mention of vaults that may have supplies that the could use, as well as Dannie mentioning their plan in regards to Georgia. It was a good plan really, and hell if they did actually live in an area that had alligators they might get lucky with the alligators helping them with Walker control.
"Might have already been said, too many people talking all at once for me to keep track of what was being said but Maybe we can stop at some of these vaults, get supplies, and then move on to Georgia."
Now that he had gotten his opinion out of the way he had other things that he needed to concentrate on, namely saying hi to Jake, who had clearly motioned him over. He also needed to personally thank Nate. It had been one hell of a risk that the man had taken for Jake and Emre, and himself and Dannie by extension. He motioned for Jake to wait a minute as he extended his hand out towards Nate.
"I said it earlier but you might not have heard me and anyways thanks ought to be given directly. Thank you for sticking your neck out for all of us. You took a big risk and you got punished for it but it takes a right man to do that for someone he doesn't know."
Once the man had shaken his hand he would walk over to Jake. The man looked happy and he spotted the pirate taking a sideways glance at him that spoke to everything that Sterling needed to know. He hadn't known that Jake was gay, or bi, or whatever he was, but it was obvious that the pirate was starting to have feelings for the man. He looked at Jake the same way Sterling looked at Liz.
"Seems you've done ok for yourself here Jake. I know we didn't have much time to talk but with everything we went through... Might as well have been together from the start Eh?"
Mia looked at Finn. She smiled at him," I , Finn, " she reached over and patted his arm," I did what I did, I would do it again. It's part of who I am. I was a nurse for a long time, and you just go on your gut. You and Eva, needed my help amd I wouldn't have been able to stomach myself if I hadn't tried." She gripped his arm," I really am sorry, wish you could have found is sooner and we could have done more for her. But you don't have to feel like you owe me, please, I don't want you to feel like that. " she smiled at him," I am not a fighter, couldn't hit yhe broad side of a barn if I tried," she shrugged and winced." I know the risks out here, we all do, but I accept your appreciation." She let go of his arm. " so, you say they are like bunkers?" She heard Dannie talking abouy Georgia," any on the way there we might be able to check out?" She was absolutely genuine . She was very glad they had been able to help him, wished they could have saved Eva, but she didn't want credit, they all had been apart of it.
Hykeem gave a small smile as he heard what Nate said. He and Mia were the only two people Hykeem really cared about. At least other than the gay couple but they were nowhere to be seen. The two were like his family and Hykeem wouldn't leave without them again.
"If Nate's in then so am I. Him and Mia are my only family. I'm with them until the end."
Hykeem meant what he had said. Hykeem hoped the end wouldn't be anytime soon but in a world like that you'd never know. Even before the earthly hell you just couldn't predict your last breath.
Hykeem didn't know alot about Georgia. Although he did know that if they were going to make it there they were going to have a hell of a ride.
Liz left Sterling to Jake who seemed to have his own little secrets going on with the pirate looking guy. She caught the exchanges in looks and smiled sheepishly to the exchange. She gave Sterling a quick kiss to the cheek and whispered to him.
"I'm going to go check on the other nurse."
She slipped away and went over to Mia and Finn, noticing that Mia looked to be in a bit of pain. She hadn't noticed Finn back at the Settlement but that was really no surprise. There were a lot of people she didn't seen in the large camp. She couldn't be exactly sure how many people could have been banished because of this small group of 'intruders'. She offered a smile as she approached them both and hoped she wasn't interrupting anything.
"You know, we were never really properly introduced. I'm Liz Foster. I was at Sacramento Memorial when all this happened. I was a nurse...am...a nurse, like you."
She looked to Finn hoping she would get an introduction from him as she waited. She was looking forward to getting back on the road and getting to the promised land, but she was also enjoying the break here.
"Is there anything I should look for before we go? Anything you guys weren't able to get off the shelves and fit in your cars?"
Finn didn't know what to think about Mia's touch. In another world he might think she'd be coming on to him. But this was the kind of thing nurses did no? Still, Mia was a looker. He also appreciated the kind words she spoke.
When she brought up the bunkers Finn turned over and went behind the counter, where he had left his backpack. The invoices from the bunker-building company were in there, along with a map Eva had started writing on, marking the locations of the bunkers that were built. Finn folded out the map on the counter in front of Mia.
"Eva and I were on our way to the town of Tryon, in McPherson County in Nebraska." Finn answered, tapping on the marking. "One of the invoices said they'd delivered and built one of the bunkers on this address. But since your friend over there's talking about going to Georgia..."
Finn looked over the map. Eva had made other marking in Illinois, Ohio and West-Virginia. He sighed. None were on the route to Georgia. But there was one place they'd find supplies though... If they were going to Georgia at driving distance from Atlanta, they'd be near the safehouse he and his crew used for the Atlanta heist. He'd have to come up with some excuse to get them there.
"Damn... too bad." Finn continued. "None on the route to Georgia. Ah well... guess we'll have to make do, won't we? Your friend over there doesn't seem the type to be persuaded to make a detour..."
As Finn folded up the map, they were approached by a blonde woman. She introduced herself as Liz and was a nurse as well. Now all they needed was a doctor and they could start their own hospital. The woman waited for Finn to introduce himself, so he did.
"I'm... I'm Finn." He introduced himself. "Nice to meet ya. Ehh... I'd dare say we picked this place clean yeah. Even found the code for the safe in the back."
Finn looked at the man the woman dragged in. He looked injured. Finn wondered how it happened.
"So... what happened to your husband?" Finn asked. "Is he gonna be okay?"

Everyone went inside, once they all found a place to sit and rest a bit, Dannie spoke about the plan. Jake would love to join them all, he really missed Sterling and Dannie, but he wouldn’t want to lose Veran, his feelings for that man where growing so fast, so he didn’t spoke up and just listened to everyone their reactions. Nate was joining, well at least that is what he said and Mia would probably follow since Nate was going.
Just then his attention went to Sterling who was standing in front of him. “Yeah I’m doing good and I know we haven’t talked much, but you guys are still important to me. ” Jake said with a smile. “But I’m so happy you are doing ok, like I said earlier I felt a bit responsible for what happened, so yeah I’m glad to see you here.” He added as he softly patted Sterling on the back. While he waited to see how Sterling reacted he looked at Veran, he was standing a bit further, all by himself, but keeping an eye on things. Jake smiled at him and winked.
Then his attention went back to the group, he heard how Hykeem was also joining Dannie and Sterling. Jake gave a quick look again to Veran to see what he would answer, until he knew where Veran and Dale were going, he wasn’t going to decide anything.
Nate shook the man's hand. He assumed he was Sterling, by how roughed up he looked. He was glad the man was walking, able to move on his own. He was tough, they would need someone like him.
"It was nothing. I couldn't let two men die. Two inncoent men who did no harm to me," Nate said smiling. He watched the man disapear and just looked at Hykeem.
"So you left Bear lake. Guessing Ellen got to you too? Or was it Charlie," he asked laughing. "Did you guys have to travel long?"
Nate looked down, "I thought I wasn't going to see you again. If you were there I would have asked you to come. That morning, the morning you left. I angered you. I'm sorry about that."
Veran had kept quite most of the meeting. He still wasn't sure where he and Dale would be going. The main reason that Dale had given for wanting to leave was that he felt overwhelmed with so many people around. He had seemed to open up a bit more with the small group that they had formed but that group was growing again. He didn't know if this was all becoming too much for him or whether he could handle it.
"Might be I won't be traveling with you all, need ta discuss it with Dale. Yer answer will come soon though. Either way I think ye all should try ta go to at least one of them vaults. Even if it'll be out of yer way. There's bound ta be quite a booty in them."
He rested his hand on his saber. He was uncomfortable and didn't want to show it. He was used to travelling alone but he had started to grow accustomed to these people. They were the good type and he wanted to stick with them but he would never leave Dale. Not after having lost him for so long. He looked to Jake, not sure if the man would decide to travel with them or if he would stay behind with the group.
Liz nodded to Finn as he introduced himself. A few long strands of blonde hair fell in her face and she wished there was a shower here where she could clean up. She felt dusty like she did when she usually hit the road and the one thing she did miss was having a hot shower every morning. It was a nice comfort back at the settlement that she would have to do without.
"Nice to meet you."
She looked back to Sterling as he was speaking with Nate, but turned back to Finn as he mentioned him being her husband. Her cheeks must have turned a bright red as she started to feel the heat rise in them. She didn't really consider him to be anything more then her patient even though their relationship was starting to turn more romantic.
"Oh no, he's not...he's, uhm, he's ..he'll be okay."
She didn't know this man so she didn't want to give away too much, but she didn't want to lie either. She didn't want anyone to take advantage of Sterling in his current state and telling people he was shot could very well compromise him within the group. Besides, she really didn't know if Sterling would want people to know that anyways. Her hands were starting to fidget a bit as she toyed with a silver ring that was around her index finger. "Just a little under the weather, but he's much better."
Dannie was happy that most people seemed to be on board. The man who talked like a pirate caught her attention though. Why was he talking like a pirate? Even stranger, why was he dressed like one? He mentioned something about someone named Dale and about some vaults that may have ..booty..inside. If it was gold and treasure, she didn't give a shit. If it were weapons and ammo, she cared more. She also heard the new guy, who introduced himself as Finn, talking to Mia about the same thing. "What are these vaults or bunkers everyone is talking about? What's inside of them?"
Her curiosity was piqued as she adjusted the handgun at her side. She was willing to take a little detour to get to these vaults if they had ammo and supplies inside. After all, they had all the time in the world to get to Georgia. She worried about Sterling being on the road too long though, but she did not want to get separated from him. He was the only link she had to her old life back in Chicago and it almost felt like he was her only friend.
"I'd like to hit the road before the sun goes down, but if everyone needs rest first we can sleep here for the night. If these bunkers have anything of value maybe a few of us could go now? Where are they at?"
The blonde nurse corrected Finn by saying the crippled man was not her husband, and ensured him he was going to be okay. Finn realized he really needed to work on observing body language and signals people gave him seeing as he always had a tendency to read them wrong.
The pirate guy had called the shelters 'vaults' but they were a tad different than actual vaults, and Finn knew vault. These were custom made survival bunkers and held more precious materials than gold, which had lost all its value in today's world. The big-boobed pale-skinned woman had come as well and Finn struggled to keep his eyes up. He hadn't caught her name yet but she referred to the bunkers as vaults as well and asked about them. Maybe she wasn't the hardass she seemed to be. Still, she seemed bossy and Finn smelled a cop. Eva was a cop too but unlike Eva, he didn't know this one would be as forgiving about his past transgressions. So far she hadn't recognized him and if he could keep it that way for now, all the better.
"Hey. I'm Finn by the way." Finn introduced himself. "As I was saying to Mia, Eva and I were on our way to an address in Nebraska. They're not vaults actually, but they're survival shelters built by a special company out of Texas. We got a hold of some invoices with addresses on them where they delivered these shelters. With luck we'll find supplies there. Eva and I wanted to check them all out and take what was in them... that is, if no one was occupying them already. We weren't thieves."
Finn felt like a hypocrite. He was a thief actually. And not the kind that broke into your house when you weren't home. He was the kind of thief that put in your face while he cracked the vault you owned. But then again, he never did steal from anyone who couldn't afford it. And banks could afford it.

Jake smiled as he heard Nate talk and joking about Ellen and Charlie, Jake never wanted to see those two again. Then his attention went to Veran, he spoke about how he might not join them all. Jake looked down as he felt sad that he probably needed to chose between the group and Veran with Dale. But he didn’t want Sterling who was still standing close to see, he had a hard time, so he looked back up and smiled, followed by yet another wink towards Veran, trying to let him know that he would stick with him. For now Jake didn’t have to worry yet, it was all depending on what Dale would decide.
Then he heard how Dannie asked about the bunkers, followed by her telling them they could rest here for the night if that was needed. After that Dannie told them that maybe a small group could check the bunkers already. “Sounds like a plan to me, I’m in.” Jake said. After that Jake just listened to Finn as he explained about the vaults.
"It's not your fault pal it was no ones I just needed a break. As for Ellen and Charlie when I got back they became a flesh like hell."
Hykeem laughed a little at his own reply. It was good to be back with his friends and he hoped he was on his way to making some new ones. He new he would have to go through alot more before they trusted him but hopefully he was on a good start.
After his reply Hykeem listened carefully to the man Finn who knew alot about the so called vaults everyone was hyped about. Finn looked like the kind of guy who wouldn't hurt a soul but Hykeem knew looks could be deceiving.
"Im in on the bunker thing just got a few questions. So how exactly did you come across these invoices? Also what kind of supplies do you think are in the vaults."
Ignorance is a killer of men and Hykeem wanted to have enough knowledge on the vaults that he could. Never go into a battle blind his boss once told him. Reaching the vaults was surely going to be a battle and if they were useless Hykeem would be pissed. Nobody liked a pissed Hykeem.

Mia hadn't said much. She had got the ball rolling, which was what she wanted to happen. They all seemed to have ideas of what and where, but there needed to be a focus. The bunkers, vaults, whatever they wanted to call them, was just that.
She watched as Finn explained where he got the information and what they were. It bothered her that Nate was do willing and eager to stay with such a large group, while others like Veran seemed unsure.
Liz being there was good. Mia would 't have to push herself as much, more hands made lighter work. Liz also seemed to have laid some kind of claim to Sterling. She was fine with letting his care fall to the other woman.
Mia didn't like the idea of splitting the group. She had lived for so long under safety in numbers, that the size of this group worried her. Though not a fighter of any kind, she knew enough to realize that the more people looking out for each other, the better.
Finn....Finn....she knew that name. Dannie knew that name from Chicago. There was a heavy Irish presence in the city but that name was pretty unusual. The more she looked at him the more she tried to pinpoint why. Maybe he was an informant she had heard of. Maybe she arrested him at some point. Maybe he worked in the records department. She couldn't be sure but when he spoke about the bunkers being in Nebraska, that changed things for them.
She thought about it for a few minutes and realized they would have to go a bit out of their way to get to the bunkers if they wanted to get to Georgia afterwards, but if there were much needed supplies, they could take a detour. Better safe then sorry.
"If we have to go Nebraska to get to these bunkers, we go as a group. We can't afford to branch off and get scattered. Once we get there, we can decide who wants to stay and who wants to come to Georgia. It's a long way away, but I'm willing to divert if we need to get supplies. I'm hoping we can find a box truck, or pick up truck on the way. We can load up what we need and get to Blue Ridge from there."
She looked over at Sterling to see if he heard the conversation and to make sure he would be okay with that. Maybe, with a box truck, him and Liz could be in the back and he could lay down and rest for the entire trip. With an injury like that, it would take time for him to heal and she's not sure being on the road like that was such a good idea for his injuries.
"I'm all ears if anyone else has a better idea. This group is a little larger then I expected it to be." But her eyes went to the pirate again. If he was having second thoughts about being with the group, maybe he could go ahead to Blue Ridge and stake out a place for them to live.
"Pirate, if you're not sure about coming with the group, maybe you can go ahead to Georgia. See if you can find anything, but I'm warning you now, I'm not willing to live on some old musty ship in the middle of a lake." She offered him a wink and a smile as she said that, playing a bit with the costume he wore and language he spoke.
"We already got a pickup," Nate said speaking up. "Not that's it's the biggest but there's room for supplies. He looked at her and pointed to the truck. It had a few supplies in the back but still had availible room. Nate smiled, "but a box truck sounds better. That would be five card amoungst our group. Not sure we'd need that many. If we find a different truck might be better to just take the gas from one of the cars and leave it behind."
He walked over to the truck, "that reminds me. If you need to fill up we still have some gas left," he said pulling out the two canisters he had found. "We will need more if we are making the slight detour. Can only get so far with these."
He set the canisters down and folded his arms. He stood relaxed and continued to smile. "I Agree it's safety in numbers though. Best we all stick close."
Hykeem asked Finn where he got the invoices from but Finn was pretty convinced he had just explained that they came from a company in Texas. Still, he was willing to humor Hykeem and explain it again.
"Like I said; from a specialized company in Texas." Finn answered. "I knew about it after having seen it on TV in some show about doomsday preppers. I knew it was in Texas and after having found a couple of semi-damaged Yellow Pages my friend and I were able to get an address for it. The place was pretty much picked clean but like in most cases; people weren't interested in the papers lying around. My friend and I on the other hand were, hence we brought them with us."
Dannie took charge again and spoke about getting the supplies, even if they had to split up for it. Finn was reluctant to go alone so he'd support the idea of going as a group. Although the guy dressed as a pirate spoke of leaving, something to do with the kid who was with them. Still, even if they did there'd still be enough of them.
What worried Finn though was the fact he was getting these people's hopes up on supplies, even if there might even be none to have. He didn't want to be the guy who'd get the blame if the trip turned out to be disappointing. And seeing as they were already talking logistics, it seemed they were getting way ahead of themselves.
"Whoa hey, wait." Finn said. "Before we start speaking logistics I'd like to point out there might not be anything there. Whoever ordered the bunker might still be in it, or by now have run out of supplies and moved on leaving nothing but an empty place behind. I just wanna make that clear in case we don't find anything. I'm also not very keen on robbing folks y'know?"
Again, Finn felt like a hypocrite. He had robbed before after all. Although they robbed the banks themselves, they still shoved guns in people's faces. But he didn't want to do that anymore. Back in those days, they robbed whoever could afford it. Nowadays, no one could anymore.
With the pain and the distraction of everyone talking it had been difficult to place the man at first but something about the guy named Finn seemed familiar. He couldn't shake the thought that he had k own the man somehow or at least seen his picture. He noticed that the man had failed to give a last name, not incredibly suspicious in and of itself, especially not these days, but there was something else eating at the back of his mind. He contemplated for a minute, trying to place the face to a name. And then it hit him.
"Finn O'Donnell... now who would have thought that this was the way I would finally find you."
Sterling considered being quite about what he knew but he didn't see how quite he could be. The man wasn't really bad, not by today's standards, but he had goofed already by being so obvious that he had been looking for him. Most of the people here knew that he was a detective and some even knew that he was in organized crime.
"Seems me and you should have a private chat a little later. That case you were involved in had some interesting leads that I would like to discuss with you. It's not amazingly important, considering the fact that the world has ended but I'd still like to hear what you have to say."
He hoped that his words would shroud a little bit of what he was talking about. People would be suspicious but his comment after recognizing the man would have already done that and the man would have to out himself eventually anyways.
Veran had barely settled with the fact that he had chosen to make bear lake his home and now he seemed to be getting wrapped up in another group. He liked the people enough. They were alright for lubbers, and of course there was Jake. He was still a little held back from the man but it was quickly becoming apparent that he would have to make some kind of choice regarding him. Before the Apocalypse you could take as much time as you needed to meet someone, get interested in them, and maybe fall in love. Now? Everything took on a much quicker pace. Love, hate, friendship, all of it happened at a pace that made the pirate more then a little stressed out at times. It was why he had traveled alone for so long. But with Jake he found himself not minding the speed as much.
