Nick chuckled softly as he was also wearing brown hiking boots, blue jeans and a sweatshirt with the colors of the University on it. "Yeah, but you forgot one tiny detail." He said as he walked out the door to the hallway, turned the doctor around slowly, then planted a gentle and ever growing passionate kiss on her lips. He played with her hair a little bit. and placed his hand in the doctors. "Let's go out there and see what will happen today." He wore a smile on his face as he started walking down the hallway and came outside the compound, wondering what would happen.
"Ohhh," Catherine whispered, her hand in his, and added, "Then let's head outside, the two of them walking as if on Cloud Nine. Heading downstairs and out of the building, Catherine could hear the sounds of pistols firing in the distance; it didn't worry her any. "What's all that racket?" one of the Monuments people asked her. Before she could reply, she heard another voice call out, "Weapons training, Doctor."
Turning towards the sound of the voice, Catherine saw Lt. Willis, M4 slung over her shoulder and wearing a bemused scowl about her face. "So, what's the plan?" she asked Catherine; without missing anything, Catherine got out a small map and unfolded it. "We're going to head up to this area, bounded by Lone Pine Campground to the north, Starr Farm to the west here and down to North Beach Campground here. A nice, triangular area to search; according to our hosts, there's about a half-dozen historic buildings in there and we're going to take a look at them while we're there."
"Any expectation of trouble?" someone asked, to which one of the Vermonters replied, "Shouldn't be; we've run patrols up in that area every so often...never had problems. Of course, in this day and age," he added, "one never knows--"
"Well, we've got eyes in the sky, right, Lieutenant?" Catherine asked.
"Two Seahawks en-route as we speak," she replied. "Hopefully, this time 2-3 days from now, we'll have a refueling point set up. Albany's sending a pair of fuel tankers east under engineer escort; as soon as they get set up, we can keep the choppers here instead of losing them at night." After a few moments, Lt. Willis said, "Give me 15 to pass the orders down and we'll head out there..."
