Finally, after pulling hard enough, Vanessa managed to pull the now blood-covered machete out from the mangled skull of a walker she just killed. "Damnit." Vanessa sighed to herself, as she reached down towards the walker's ripped clothes and wiped off as much dead blood off of the machete as she could before sheathing it back into the sheath that was connected to her leather belt. After the encounter, Vanessa turned back and looked around the abandoned house for any other nasty surprises. Considering the amount of noise made during her battle with the walker at her feet, more of them would've been attacking by now, so she thought for the time being she was safe. Vanessa then moved on from the lounge room she was in and walked towards the kitchen and dining area of the house, hopefully to find any extra food or other useful items to help her survive.
She went to the pantry first and opened up the doors, and unfortunately, nothing was inside besides a single dead mouse and mouse droppings. The smell it emitted means it had been dead for quite a while. At least a few days. Vanessa sighed again and closed the pantry doors, then proceeded towards the fridge. While the power was out completely, there was always a possibility that certain refrigerated items can last for a long time.... but again, no luck. Only empty plastic containers were in the fridge, and so she closed the door and moved on the cutlery drawer. She opened them, and found just a couple of forks left, and a single butter knife. She tsked to herself as she closed the drawer and moved on to the overhead cupboards.
As she opened the first one, she heard a low, humming sound coming from the open window in the kitchen. "Hmm, what is that?" Vanessa said to herself as she moved towards the window slowly, trying not to make too much sound, moved the curtain over slightly to the right and carefully looked around to see where the sound could possibly be coming from.
