"Where have you been? Out running the roads like the common street whore?" The voice was slurred and angry from the darkness of the kitchen. She had just closed the door of the kitchen after a long shift at the dinner. It was one of her two jobs that paid the bills for her useless parents. Her mom was always strung out on the couch and well her boyfriend was a drunk and a bastard. The light came on and she jumped a bit standing frozen in her tracks as she stared at him. "I was at work. You know that thing you refuse to do." The words slipped off her tongue with a bitter tone and what she revived for the trouble was a firm back hand to the cheek. For a drunkn piece of crap he moved fast and her tiny 16yr old body stumbled into the table. The moments after she blacked out as he did the worst to her like so many times before.
This routine had happened so many times that she didn't even bother to cry anymore at this point. Eventually he stumbled off and she would retreat to the shower whereshe could break down. First she would lay a blanket over her passed out mother and then she was locked in her room until the next days work shift. Lulu didn't have time for school nor did she believe it had any purpose. She would never amount to anything anyway and no point to try right? Standing by her window she would blow smoke of a cigarette out of her window as she stared out into the city. The nights in Detroit were alive and even though her friends pleaded and begged she was always in bed. Harold didn't like when she went out of the house for anything other than work.
The sick fuck had some sort of obsession with her and she was sure she would die in this ratty apartment. The cigarette was put out on a empty space on her arm. The flesh sizzles a bit and a deep sigh escaped her lips. The pain was the one thing she used to escape the ratty hell that was her life. As she slipped into her bed and let the feeling of cold blankets and her fingers switched off her lamp. Laying in the dark she listened to the city noise and her mind started to wander. Try as she may her thoughts always seemed to run in one direction. It was always to the cute face that came in to see her every shift. Johnny Rome was his name and her friends knew about him.
He was charming and all the girls would swoon over him when he came into the dinner. Yes she knew his name and of him but he didn't receive the same pleasure. All he knew was her name was simply Lulu. That was for the best seeing as she wasn't allowed to date or have any sort of life. He'll she didn't even get to keep the money she worked so hard for. Still it was nice to fantasize about the possibilities of a different life where she could pursue that handsome devil of a guy. With those sweet thoughts in her head she finally drifted off to sleep. The tiredness had succumb her to the point where she woke up late the next day. Quickly she scrambled around trying her best to get ready.
Harold stepped into the bathroom doorway behind her and laughed at her as she applied makeup. "You look like a cheap hooker Take that crap off your face." The tone was turning sour and she backed up from the sink quickly she darted passed him but he followed. Feeling her arm jerk she pulled back and as her head turned there was a forcible hit to her face. The pain caused her to yelp and jerk her arm free. Grabbing her bag she headed out the door and towards the dinner. The pain in her face was terrible but she kept her head down as she walked in. Making a line for the bathroom she looked to see the sweeping and started to cover it a bit with more make up.
"Lu...your favorite admirer is here." Stacey called from the other side of the door. Quickly she moved out of the girls room and grabbed her apron. Moving over towards the table she used the little notepad to block the view of her face. "What can I getcha dollface?" She asked in the nicest tone she could muster with the pain in her eye and cheek. Lulu didn't want him out of all people to see the trainwreck she looked like at the moment.
