Stunned silence when it happened and Remy had barely come out of the coma since The Leckards had left. Poor Damon was caught in the middle of two families. It started with Ellie and Daisy fighting like two little girls on the playground. The argument was loud enough to pull her and Owen out of the bedroom as they were trying to work things out with Jay. It ended with Daily pulling her family away and leaving the property.
Arden didn't care. Him and Owen were at each other's throats practically. Amarie was in the same position Damon was, but her loyalty was with Arden anyways. That would likely never waver. Then Owen had to choose. It was her or his family. He promised he would never leave, but that was a lie. Just like Luca before him. Lies that were never intended to be lies. He begged her to understand, but she just couldn't. He kept saying over and over again that if he didn't go, Daisy and Jay would die out there beyond the property of the St. Mordeaux house. Owen didn't trust that Damon could keep them alive...so he just left.
She knew Arden was getting sick of her sobs, so she kept herself locked away in her room for days at a time. She knew the rest of them were getting irritable that she couldn't snap out of it and help around the property. Before she knew it, the snowfall came and the seasons that had turned slipped by by a snap of her fingers. Her hair had grown a little longer and her skin had become more pale.
She did chores around the house but it was as if she was just going through the motions. Even going down the docks was too much for her. That's where Owen admitted his love for her so long ago. That's where he confessed to his lifelong obsession with her. That's where she realized she loved him this whole time too. Thankfully Ellie took up the fishing while Arden did the hunting. At least they weren't starving to death and she was starting to think of the overgrown blackberry bush and her mother. She had only gone a few times to talk to her and confess everything, which sometimes lifted weight from her shoulders, but with the house so empty now, it always brought her back to the same thoughts of loneliness.
Amarie and Ellie tried to make her feel better, which helped, until Arden got involved. His temper sent her reeling back each time. She wanted to run, but this is where her family was. She couldn't leave them again and in a strange way, she was proud of the fact she had stayed this long.
She sat in front of the fireplace as the sun came up, wrapping her hands around a cup of hot tea. Ellie had managed to scavange inside the local mall and although she didn't turn up much, she was able to find some tea and coffee. Everyone else was still sleeping with Amarie and Arden staying in the same room. They kept their relationship away from her, thankfully, as not to trigger anything and cause her to flee again. Ellie was just Ellie and the occasional walker or group of walkers ended up at the property. She knew she had to move on, but she didn't know how. The hurt and anger were a scar that seemed to leave a deep welt right across her heart.
