Describe your character's life before the Apocalypse:
- Collin Hollingsworth; The name so prominently lodged in the heads of sober indie circles around the Denton Area. It wasn't always like that though. Collin was born in a small studio apartment in downtown Fort Worth to Katrina Hollingsworth, She was unemployed and had little money but she made sure Collin had at least a semi comfortable childhood leading to him getting his first guitar on his tenth birthday. Collins mother hated to admit it but as the years past and Collins skills improved she couldn't help but hear that he was picking up and playing the same things that his late father had, He had died in a car wreck about three months before Collins birth and almost caused her to lose him from the stress of trying to survive on her own but here they are, both of them.
In middle school Collin had a slightly harder time making friends than others due to a phase of social Anxiety that kicked up in his youth, But through the anxiety and depression that followed there was always one kid that stayed by his side, A kid a little smaller than him but somehow three years older he always always had a goofy smile to greet him in the morning when they showed up to school. The friendship would continue through the years as they both went made there way into high school, Collin was disinclined to attend at first as at the time he saw school as just a waste of time, Something there solely to eat into his precious time. As the first day grew ever closer however, Alvin was there without fail to plant some sort of reason in his mind on why he should go and the next Monday they both marched through together.
Collins high school life turned out to be not as bad as he thought it would, his musical talent and ability to quell disputes between the small group of friends he had managed to make and the rest of the school seemed to make him somewhat popular with the ladies, But none of them ever caught his eye until He met Rachel, a Transfer student from Tulsa Oklahoma who moved with her family down here, She was perfect. As graduation day came and went Alvin parted ways to start his military career, Making a point to keep in contact with him as the years went by Collin and Rachel got married, had two beautiful kids and Collin, now being able to focus full force on his musical career found mild success with his somewhat sadder, melancholic songs that so many would later describe as 'sad bastard' indie in the Denton music scene.
After saving up a little money Collin was able to fulfill another dream of his, To own his own record and music store. Naming it Serenity Sound and Music after his first daughter, She was turning 10 that month and he wanted something that would last for a long time.
about two years later however, in September of 2011. Tragedy struck. On her way home from a double shift at her job in Dallas Rachel fell asleep at the wheel and drove her car into the guard rail, She was killed instantly. Life was hard after that, Little money caused Collin to unwillingly sell his music store and take up a job in Fort Worth, Luckily Alvin had managed to become the commander of the air base down there and was able to snag him a job as a barber on base, it wasn't Denton and the pay wasn't the best but it paid the bills and allowed Collin to keep food on the table for himself and his girls, as much as they missed their old life and everything that it brought the two of them trusted that their father would keep them safe and sound.
What happened to your character on Outbreak Day?:
- The day of the outbreak started like any other, Collin sent his two girls off to school and made his way to the air base, making sure to slide his guitar into the trunk of his car for his lunch break he headed out to the base on the Western end of the city. Getting through the checkpoint with ease as he did many times before over the past year and a half, parked his car and made his way to the barber shop that was situated in the lower sections of the command building in the northern section of the base. Driving down the road that hugged the strip Collin always loved watching the crews go about their business, although they seemed like they were in a certain sort of rush on this particular day, that mixed with the fact that forces had been arriving for the last few days including a few tanks that Collin couldn't remember ever seeing there in as big of force in the last year. As he parked his car and began to make his way to his place of work he couldn't help but wonder what was going on, entering the building he saw the cluster of general staff making their ways around on their duties. Unlocking the door to the shop and propping it open as he made his way through he set his guitar against the wall in the corner and began prepping his station to begin his day.
It was afternoon when something changed, The place was in an upbeat mood from the start but up until now Collin had written it all off as just something going on in the world that didn't effect him. Oh boy was he wrong... In the early afternoon Alvin, or as he was known here, Colonel Cooper made his way into the room and informed him of the situation and that he needed his help in securing the civilians as he and his forces did their best to hold off what was showing their heads outside. Collin couldn't believe what he was hearing at first and honestly thought it was a joke, but Alvin never sounded serious like this when he was joking. Agreeing to help him do anything he needed Collin followed him through the hall and out the door of the building into the light of day, The base was buzzing with activity, helicopters were taking off, the tanks that had shown up a few days ago were on their way out of the compound, The duo back and forthed as they made their way towards a UH-1Y with its blades spinning. On their way towards it Alvin explained that the end of the world as they new it was happening, he didn't now how or why but that they needed to gather as many people as they could and bring them back here to protect them from whatever the beasts were that had begun taking over the city.
With a nod of his head Collin stepped up into the helicopter to join the crew along with a group of marines that were being sent with them for protection. Taking off and making their way away from the base proper Collin was greeted with the grim reality of what his friend was alluding to. The dead were walking... The first task that Collin had in his mind was getting his girls, a selfish first task but it was the first thing he was doing before anything else. Picking them, and as many others that the chopper would fit they made their way back to base and dropped them off, repeating the process as many times as they could over the course of the day, along with the other helicopters they managed to save nearly 400 men, women and children that day. The town was lost, the world was burning but the base held fast.
Describe your character's life after the Apocalypse:
- After the base was secured and the civilians they had managed to rescue were situated for the time Collin and Alvin decided to ride out the storm and wait for any word from his superiors, or anyone. They had been stocked with a years worth of supplies and had a working water purifier so together Collin and Alvin made the decision to ride out the storm and wait for help.
Nearly six month past with no word what so ever from anyone, American or otherwise. The reserve supplies was only going to last so long and with about double the amount of mouths to feed than the supplies were meant for they had to do something. So the decision was made to attempt to reclaim and secure the area of White Settlement that hugged the south West corner of the base, It took about six weeks but after hard fighting in the streets the forces were able to push the dead out and secure the majority of the residential area, erecting walls around it Collin decided that they should rename it, to build morale and give the people hope the name New Fort Worth was coined. Taking steps to secure seeds from what was left from the agricultural area's near the once mighty city the bases engineering platoon was tasked with demolishing a section in the north of the settlement and turning it into farm plots for the few farmers that had been in the town at the start to work their trade and aid in the ever growing food crisis, The real Genius's they were the engineers also managed to Macgyver up some wind turbines for a little bit of power.
As the years past the marines were able to secure the rest of White Settlement (now New Fort Worth) and the stronghold evolved into a mini city of sorts, nothing that resembled what was once the norm but a city none the less, Now, four years later Collin still holds out hope that there will once again be a resemblance of what life once was and together along with his best friend he hopes to once again bring them there.
The times may change and the world may never be the same but Collin and Alvin lead like two sides of a coin, the caring and understanding of a civilian and the steadfastness and determination of a Colonel with his army at his side. Together they continue moving forward.
