What was he doing? Simple. He was avoiding Walkers. He was tired, and he was hungry, and he was thirsty. He hadn't eaten in a day, maybe two. He was running low on water, and even lower on will to survive. Why in the hell was he out here, of all places was beyond him. Utah, it wasn't exactly friendly country, and the car that he'd managed to find to get him to Utah hadn't been in the best of conditions. It'd broke down a few miles back, it wasn't even worth the scrap metal that probably comprised it. The piece of crap Nissan certainly earned his ire, but he took the rearview mirror none the less, just because. Who knew, he might need it. Maybe because he didn't actually have a mirror in his pack. Who thought to actually bring one!? He certainly didn't! He wasn't even sure where the hell he was going anymore. He'd seen a destination on the map he'd nabbed from the glovebox, a fort. It said Cove Fort on the map, and as far as he knew, it might have been a military installation. He was wrong, of course. It was anything but. How was he to know it was a "control" city for the interstate, centered around an old mormon fort that was pretty much just a tourist attraction?
Still though, he trudged on, noting the sign that told him that Cove Fort was only a ten miles ahead. Could he last ten miles? He adjusted his pack, shifting the weight of it to his back as he kept walking. He could last ten miles, or so he told himself. He had to last ten miles, he didn't have a choice but to do that. "C'mon, Elvis, you're not a punk." Muttering to himself as he walked along the road, passing the burnt out husks of cars, walking by them as he occasionally peered into them, not really seeing anything of value in them, not anything worth taking, though, eventually? He saw the dark clouds start to roll in across the sky and the distant thunder told him what he already knew. There was a storm brewing.
Even if he didn't want to waste time, he'd have to take shelter soon, and fast.. He kept passed the cars, at least until he came across a truck. it was a newer model, a black Titan V8 4x4. He was stepping up on the siderail and opening the door, putting his pack in before sliding in himself. There was a corpse in the front seat, a bullethole in the man's temple, a cheap Hi Point C9 pistol in his hand.. God, it reeked.. He reeked, but still, he was leaning over and opening the door, pulling the gun from the musty hand as he pushed it out of the other side.. Closing the door back as he leaned back into his seat on the passenger's side right as the sky let out and the rain came down..
At least for now, he had a reprieve.
