It was somewhere in the middle of the night. Mandy woke up to find some of the older kids were missing. The gunshots were responsible for stirring her from her sleep. She was always a light sleeper. The gunshots were far off and faint beyond so many rooms and closed doors but the sound drifted to her ears all the same. Sitting up she looked around and could tell that something was wrong. At least in her estimation. Maybe it was the creepy mansion, but she got an unsettling feeing in the large dark room.
Pushing herself up she slipped out of the bed. She had to shove a few kid's arms off her that he been drapped sleepily over her. She slipped from the bed and quickly moved down the hall. Her bare feet moving along the soft carpet. Mandy didn't even bother with her shoes. Instead she opened the door and slipped through the crack. She was always more nosey than smart. Not that she was stupid but her curiosity had gotten her into trouble before. It wasn't the first time and it surely wouldn't be the last.
Mandy moved to the edge of the banister and saw Reese talking to Andromeda and the new girl. She watched them closely and tried to hear what they were saying. They were speaking low so it was hard to make out. Mandy crept closer down the large stairs when everyone seemed to start heading in their own directions. Freezing for a moment she watched them split up. Mandy chose to follow Alice, one because she was new to the group and she was the most curious about her, but also because she seemed to be going away from the sounds of the gunshots. Mandy wasn't a coward, but she wasn't stupid. She got up to explore the gunshots but she didn't actually want to find something awful.
She tried to be braver than she was or at least appear that way, but the truth was a lot of times she was overwhelmed and scared. The dead still frightened her. She had lived with them the last four years, but coming face to face with her still gripped her with panic. More than once she had gone all dear in the headlights and almost gotten bitten because of it. Mandy quietly followed Alice trying to remain unseen for as long as possible just wanting find out a little more about her.
