They were coming. It wasn't a matter of when, it was the fact that they were, without a doubt, coming. He was being cool, being collected. He had no doubts of what was going to happen, and in being that resolute in the immediate fate of things, there was a certain calmness, a tranquility to it all. He was tossing his bags into the back of that truck, not bothering to properly secure it, being that the walls and tailgate of the bed were too big for things to get tossed out. Careful, meticulous, he was opening up the driver's side door and calling for that dog of his with a shrill whistle!
He pushed that Australian Shepherd right up and into the cab before holding a hand for Michelle, waiting to help her up into the front, hopefully with Bernard getting in on the passenger side.
"It's gonna be alright, we've got this." He wasn't smiling, but he was calm, he was steady.
As the three people were quickly taken care of, Bernard noticed Michelle take a duffel bag. There was another one close to it and there wasn't any harm in grabbing it. So he did, he pick it up and put in any random shit that they might need. Ammunition, rags and cloths, towels, he might have even thrown a pistol in there. After he had done, He followed Michelle and Mick, wherever the hell they were going. He trusted the two enough to follow them wherever, they both seemed like good, trustworthy people. Then again, looks can be deceiving, this could all be a trap for someone, who knew. Wait, why was he thinking about that? No, no, of course they're good people, bad people would've killed those people back there.
Anyway, Bernard saw the truck. They were getting out of the city and as fast as possible. He rushed over to the truck where Michelle and Mick were. He quickly put his duffel bag in the back and got into the passenger seat, ready to go.
Michelle let Mick guide her up into the seat and handed him her pack and duffel. She saw the look on his face as he spoke. She wanted to believe him but she was scared. She saw Bernard climb in the passenger side and gripped his arm, as she sat waiting for Mick to start up the truck. The sooner out of here the better.
When Mick climbed in next to her, her hand gripped his thigh. She didn't dare touch his arm or hand, he needed those to drive. Michelle was silent, she just stared straight ahead. Both males could tell easily that the blonde female was scared to death.
It was all said and done. They were in this together it seemed. Michelle, Bernard, Mick, and Pooch. There were worst ways to go about life. He'd miss that damn Charger, but it was swarmed with zeds at this point and to be honest about things, he didn't personally believe that he'd make it this far, not after Boston. Not after what he'd had to do, what his friends had had to do just to survive. He shifted that Truck into gear, glancing to Michelle when he felt her hand on his thigh. "Hey, it's gonna be alright, Angel Eyes. We're mobile, we've got food, we've got guns, we've got us. We're good." They weren't heavily armed, but they were better armed than before, that wasn't anything to sneeze at, certainly.
He hit the gas of that truck, accelerating it, before just laying down on the damned gas altogether. "Hold onto your asses!" Shouting loudly as he gripped the wheel, busting through the gate and sending zombies scattering or beneath the big tires of that large truck, but breaking through none the less, leaving the base behind, the horde behind..
Mick was trying to reassure her. That was sweet. She glanced over at him for a moment and her hand squeezed his thigh. She glanced at Bernard and held onto his arm. This is the longest she had been with people in quite awhile.
When the truck started up and actually moved, she seemed to settle down some. Her nails dug in when they smashed the gate. The guys and blood splattering the windshield did not help her nerves by any means.
As they drove, she eased up her hand holds and before long, she was asleep. Her head drifted over to Mick's shoulder. Michelle was just resting her eyes at first, but the motion of the truck soon sent her out completely. She had always been like this, even as a little girl. Long car rides put her to sleep everytime.
As Bernard quickly got in the truck, he awaited Mick slam down that goddamn gas. He listened as Mick tried to comfort Michelle, Bernard gave a little smirk at the sight of it. They certainly suited each other, question was, is it mean to be? They'd probably find out soon. He was unsure on where exactly they were heading, but he began to think about other people. After experiencing this crazy shabang, it gave him hope that other were out there, alive like these three were.
Mick quickly hit down on the gas and the car zoomed through the gates, running down some biters as well. Bernard held onto his seat while he did this, but after they got out, Bernard just looked out of the window at the wreckage the world had become. Jeez, this was gonna be a long journey.
"Quit your smirking." Quietly, over Michelle's head, to Bernard, with a grin on his face as he glanced down to the blonde who had her head on his shoulder. "We've got supplies, we've got a solid truck with.. Surprisingly, a tank full of gas." Said after checking the gauge before looking back up. "It's just a matter of going east.. North, South. Fuck it, we could flip a bitch and go to Canada.. But populated cities are a death trap."
Michelle made a few soft noises in her sleep. She shoved herself closer to Mick's side. It was very obvious the girl had not slept in awhile. She was out cold, and even had a little drool forming at the corner of her mouth. Her hand still had a hold of Bernard's arm.
The movement of the truck kept her sleeping, but it was far from peaceful. Michelle never slept for very long. Bad dreams always woke her, but with these two, she must have felt safe because she was resting decently. The dreams were bad, but she had people in her dreams now to help her.
