The roar of that engine could've attracted a zed if he actually stopped long enough for them to figure out his trail, and he most assuredly didn't have the want, or time, to stop long enough for them to do just that. Massachusetts was home, but with Boston having fallen? What was the point of staying where he was? There wasn't any, the cops that'd served with him, the emergency medical services staff and firefighters that'd holed up with him in an act of desperation was gone, so here he was, hauling ass down the road with everything he owned in the trunk of his car and in the ALICE bag he kept in the backseat. His only companion, a pissed off pooch in the passenger seat, was laying down, with his head atop his paws, quietly listening to the dulcet sounds of Jon Bon Jovi belting out the lyrics of 'Wanted Dead or Alive'. "Don't judge me, Pooch." Came the growl of his baritone towards the dog as Mick glanced over, looking at the door over the wire rim of his aviators, a smirk starting to tug over his lips as he glanced down to the dog before looking back over to the front of him. "If Bon Jovi's voice was good enough to get women to overlook that hair of his, he's good enough for you."
He couldn't help but to flash his teeth in a grin as he heard the dog whine in response to what he said, his eyes ahead on the road as he started to slow the approach of his car as he saw the sign telling him that he was closing in on Fort Devens, enough that he'd be getting there soon. He didn't know what he expected, but it had to be better than Boston, and even if it wasn't, they could be supplies. Something, anything. Maybe body armor, maybe food, but whatever he found there, he might even find answers. He knew refugees were going there earlier, knew that there were a fair amount of facilities at the fort, including a prison. Surely all those soldiers couldn't be ran off, or overcome so easily.
In fact, he wanted to kick himself for not going there sooner.
He was slowing the car, pulling it over to the side of the road as a sigh left his lips.
Damn it, the thought went through his head as his eyes saw the smoke in the distance where the fort was. Between that, and the cars clogging up the road, he could put two and two together and figure out his options. He was going to have to hoof it by foot, and so he went about cutting the car off and and looking over to his furry pal. "Well, Pooch. It's time to nut up or shut up." Came that sigh that left his lips as he moved to cut that car off without a further word, pocketing his keys and reaching in the back to get his pack.. At least, at the very least, the moans in the distance that he heard now without his card idling, didn't seem to be getting any closer to him.. He just hoped that wasn't a mixed blessing.
