List 3 or more good personality traits:
- What’s next on the bucket list?: Despite the atrocities he’s beared witness to, Calvin always tries to see the positivity in the post apocalyptic world. Rather than thinking about his lack of food or companionship, he’d rather think about how awesome it would be to pop a long wheelie on the Appalachian Trail, drop a pebble down Niagara Falls, or be the leader of a truck rig group, just to name a few.
- Take it easy: In most confrontations, Calvin likes to say that he can be a good peacekeeper within a group, willing to listen to both sides and try to find a compromise or solution to the problem at hand. No matter what’s being bargained, Calvin tends to side with the person he feels brings more logic to the table.
-Now’s not the time to think about how you got to this point: Surprisingly, while Calvin doesn’t have the most adept charisma, he’s able to direct a conversation straight and to the point, he’s learned that the more time you spend in one place the greater the risk. That is of course, if he ever actually gets the opportunity to lead a conversation.
List 3 or more bad personality traits:
- I could've saved them: Due to the brutal means of his girlfriend's death and the very abrupt separation from his ‘son’, Calvin has developed a sense of survivor's guilt, which as an extension has him risk his neck for people he believes needs saving, more often than not getting himself into tight spots.
- I’m thinking of a number between Pi and the square root of 36: Give him enough time, and Calvin speaks jargon relating to his old job, a bad habit formed because of his lack of people to talk too, especially fellow math...enthusiasts. This tends to annoy people who stick by him for the long run, hence why no one’s stuck with him for the long run.
- When the going gets tough, I’m outta here: While Calvin is willing to help others, if a situation proves to be too dire and his life becomes seriously at risk, Calvin high tails it out of the situation, only staying in very select few circumstances. Most would call it cowardice, but Calvin just calls it staying alive to tell the story.
List 3 strengths:
- Night Owl: The brutal combination of overtime from his past job and surviving out on his lonesome has made Calvin a bit more adaptable in the night. Some skills he has picked up over the years include being able to stay alert late into the night, be a light sleeper (not exactly a strength in Calvin’s eyes), and be able to more easily spot people and walkers in the dark. (You know, as long as they’re not wearing black.)
- Easy Rider: Due to his long-term ownership of it, Calvin has become a proficient rider on his motor bike, able to comfortably and efficiently travel both short and long distances. The seat on the motorcycle has never ceased to be uncomfortable though.
- Leave no stone unturned: Finding food and water is hard enough in this world but do you have any idea on how hard it is to find some fuel, batteries and decent ammo up in here? That’s why whenever Calvin stops somewhere to check it out he tends to strip places clean. Got a basement hidden under that rug of yours with old jars of jelly in there? Swoop, they’re mine. Got a fake wall set up but died before you can make it back home? Sorry, the wrecking company came early and had an early payday to boot. Got a safe hidden behind a painting? Well, you might’ve got me there but I don’t plan on quitting anytime soon! A true loot hound.
List 3 flaws:
- Keyboard Warrior: Let’s just say Calvin’s job didn’t necessarily give him the skills or the opportunity to be prepared for the end of the world, exercise and survival skills were not on the top of his to do list pre-apocalypse.
- Can’t float like a butterfly, gets stung by bees: Physical confrontations, fisticuffs? Forget it. While this philosophy has certainly kept him alive for this long, whenever Calvin has had the misfortune of getting stuck in a physical alteration, he got his potatoes mashed. Definitely don’t trust him to have your back in a bar fight or like, any close up fight.
- So, it was start on the inside and work your way out, right?: Being out on the road by yourself for a long time can really screw up your table manners, not to mention how charismatic a guy can be. While Calvin isn’t exactly sociopathic or introverted, he sees things in his own sort of way, from figuring out a way to cross a broken bridge to what he considers to be funny, Calvin is a bit behind on the post apocalyptic social curve.
Describe your character's life before the Apocalypse:
- It all started in the small city of Parkersburg, West Virginia. Calvin was born and raised there, it was home, and as far as he knew, it was where he would live out the rest of his life. He had a happy childhood there, having the best little brother a guy could ask for, being a good kid in school, and eventually temporarily leaving the town to pursue college, always with the intent on heading back to his hometown after rounding out his education. So that’s what he did, after getting a bachelors in computer science he was hooked up with a well paying job from a friend of his father's, adjusting back into the little world within his town.
Life was good, Calvin had a job that fitted his interests, a family that loved him and at times questioned his life choices, a girlfriend that seemed to be the one, and a steady and simple life, what more can a guy ask for? Well, not much really, life in Parkersburg went on, aside from the occasional trip to other areas of the US for a nice change of scenery, Calvin was entirely content with his life. However, things soon took a turn for the worst as Calvin’s father passed away of a tragic and sudden stroke, at that moment Calvin took on a level of responsibility that he was never really ever able to fully embrace, being the new man of the house. Life continued on, and while no one in the family truly moved on from the death, they were able to distance themselves from it by returning back to their daily lives, Calvin being no different. It continued like so for the next two years, up until the apocalypse hit.
What happened to your character on Outbreak Day?:
-
It was supposed to be the usual, wake up in the early morning, go to work and plant himself in front of a monitor for 8 hours, get out from work, buy a few drinks and kick back with the family. Except today wasn’t going to be like any other day, just the simple lack of familiar faces on the morning bus to work was what first tipped off Calvin that something wasn’t right. While Parkesburg wasn’t an old timey town where everyone knew each other, people were close enough to notice the fact that fellow friends and co-workers were in a big decline that day.
