Nate heard yelling and then watched Mia take off. She was going to get herself hurt. If they hurt her, he..., he didn't want to think about that. There was a man dragging a girl, she looked in bad shape. And we're those? We're those people chasing after them.
He hear a gunshot and then Mia yell his name. He acted instantly. Throwing down his Axe he reached in the back for one of the rifles. Flipping it up he aimed it down at the people chasing the man and the wounded girl.
He didn't know how the other would react, there was another rifle and he knew the Veran had gun. He hoped that two of the others would fire and that Dale and one other would help mia pull the body. He wasn't going to take control, he'd let them act.
Nate squezed the trigger and watched the spray go towards the men. He wasn't the best shot but he could manage. The shot missed so he fired again. This time the bullet hit his target, dropping one of the men chasing the pair.
Nate firss again, this time missing. He didn't like that he had killed one. For all he knew these people Mia we're helping were the bad ones. He just didn't like people getting hurt. These people were hurt, he'd fight for them. He wouldn't have even reacted as fast if Mia wasn't there, he couldn't let her get hit.

Jake was still resting his head on Veran his shoulder as he heard yelling, when Jake looked into the direction he saw a man and he was dragging a bad wounded woman. He asked for help and kept yelling things like bandits and they are after us. Jake was a bit started but just then Mia ran towards them. He rushed to his backpack and searched for his gun. “I need my gun, I won’t be able to block bullets with my sword I’m not fucking Obi-Wan-Kenobi.” Jake said in an angry tone. When he finally found it he heard Mia call for Nate. For a brief second he thought Mia was hurt, but he looked up and saw she was fine, but he did hear some gunshots with was less pleasant. “Careful dammit!” Jake yelled. He was worried about Nate and Mia, hell he was worried about everyone from the group.
Jake turned towards Veran and Dale. “Get the cars started for when we have to leave in rush, just started you both don’t have to drive cause I know you guys are rusty, they keys should be in the car so it shouldn’t be a problem.” Jake said. “Oh and one more thing both keep yourselves safe.” He said as he ran towards the strangers and sort of followed Nate.
Jake saw how Nate fired his gun and was able to shoot one of the so called bandits. Not seconds later he shot again but missed. Jake kept running towards Mia, but raised his gun while running and tried to shoot the attackers. He shot and was able to hit the one that Nate missed, but he didn’t know how many others would follow. For now he didn't care that he had to kill actual people, the safety of the group came first.
Then he finally reached Mia, the man and the wounded woman. “Here let me help, Mia take my gun and try to cover me.” Jake said as he handed his gun to Mia. After that he took the woman in his arms, Jake was quite muscular so he could easily carry her. Then he started to rush back to the cars.
The group were stood around still discussing. Jesus Christ... He knew plans had to be thought through, but it just bored him eventually. All of a sudden, gunfire could be heard in the distance, it didn't sound good. Two people came running and shouting towards the group, a man and a woman. The woman was bleeding, looked real bad, hopefully Mia could handle it. Emre realised his main job would be to shoot at 'bandits' behind them with a few other people. Emre rushed over to the closest car to find a gun, they had a few in there somewhere. He found a rifle in there, he would use that.
"Either get to safety or fight with us"
He shouted to anyone that was listening, it was a really a choice they had to make. If they didn't choose one there was a possibility of dying soon. Emre rushed over to where everyone else was and aimed at the bandits, firing a shot at one trailing behind. The shot went through his chest, making him drop to the floor. He shot a couple of shots at another one, but missed completely. He wasn't really trained in gun fights and shooting, he just aimed, shot and hoped. He then decided it would be best to go back to the cars. He spray fired at all of the other bandits approaching, getting a few hits, he then ran back to the cars with Jake.
He got to where Mia was treating the injured girl. Shit, it was bad, they really fucked her up. Emre did wonder what exactly they did to deserve bullets in her or maybe they just shot them like bandits do. He also wondered if they actually were bandits, maybe these people coming to them for help were the bad ones.
Finn let out a short-lived sigh of relief. These people were friendly and helping, but the worst was yet to come still. A woman asked Eva's name right before their pursuers started shooting.
"Eva... It's... it's Eva." Finn answered the woman. He tried to catch his breath while speaking. Another man came and started shooting back at the bandits, while another grabbed Eva and brought her over to their cars. Finn followed him as the man laid Eva down in cover. She groaned in pain when she touched the ground, more blood pouring out of her wounds.
"Finn... Finn..." Eva called out to him. Finn took her left hand with his both hands, his eyes teared up when he realized these were his final moments with Eva.
"Finn... don't.... Don't let this... define who you are now." Eva said. Finn nodded his head, agreeing with her. "I won't Eva... I promise... I'm so sorry Eva!" Finn answered.
Eva mustered a smile towards Finn in spite of her imminent death. She caressed his cheek with her bloodied right hand, leaving some blood on his face.
"Don't... don't... be." Eva said. "Wouldn't have wanted it... any other... way." "Eva... please... I need you!" Finn answered. A tear rolled down his cheek, across the place that was smeared with Eva's blood.
Eva tightened her grip on Finn's hand and lifted her head up toward Finn in a last effort of strength.
"You're... you're... a good man... Finn." Eva said. "Always... remember you... you were never... the bad guy... they intended you... to... be..."
Eva's grip on Finn loosened up and her head fell back gently toward the pavement. There was one final sigh before the only person Finn had cared for in this post-apocalyptic shithole was no more. His friend, the only friend he had and the one person who had been with him since the beginning had just died. Finn leaned forward over Eva's body and cried. Tears streamed down from his face onto her chest.
But it wasn't over yet. He had to make sure Eva wouldn't come back. He didn't want to, but she wouldn't be Eva anymore. He pulled out the tactical knife from his belt and gently, almost lovingly inserted it into Eva's temple, piercing it through her skull. When he pulled the knife back blood poured out for a few second. He bended over to her, giving her one final kiss on the forehead before putting his forehead onto hers. He then broke down again over the loss of a dear friend.
Everything happened all at once. One second they were having a nice lighthearted chat around their newfound supplies and the next they were being shot at. Veran grabbed the keys jumped in the rig and started it up. He looked for Dale but in the confusion he couldn't see him. He's ok, he told himself and ducked behind the door of the truck, returning fire with his pistol.
"Grab the supplies and throw them to me. I'm a little pinned down."
He was glad in this moment that his accent was mostly gone. It could have gotten them all killed if he wasn't able to properly communicate. He was about to yell at the new guy to get his partner in a vehicle but he could only watch as the man buried a tactical knife in her skull.
"Finn, get yer ass ta cover."
He reloaded his gun and looked at his belt.
"This is me last clip everyone. I'm about ta be dead weight."
Mia took Jake's gun and ran after him. She tried to shoot, but really only missed. She was no gun at shooting when she had time to aim, let alone on the fly like this.
She stared back at the female in his arms. She didn't have long. She crouched down next to her and Finn. She knew the woman was close, she had felt her pulse, but when Finn used his knife, she was taken aback. The whole thing brought back memories that she wished she could forget. She hadn't been able to do that for her husband, she had ran, and someone had shot him, ending his torture.
She rose and gripped Finn's arm, "We gotta go, come on, come with us." She was pulling him as best she could, but at the same point, she saw his grief. Slowly , she bent behind him and wrapped him up in a hug. She had done this many times with grieving family members at the hospital. She pulled, and slowly held onto him and she turned him, and got him up. Mia kept her arms around him. grief was a powerful pain, and it could even kill.
It was all a blur. He saw Emre and Jake shooting. There was yelling, Jake carried the bleeding girl. More yelling. Nate fired at the bandits from were he stood pegging a few more off. He heard the guy who originally called for help talking to the girl. The. The girl stopped replying. He didn't need to turn around to know what happeend.
Nate fired a few more shots, the men who were chasing them not wanting to quit.
"We need to go," he said to the group, "go now." He fired again and his gun clicked empty. Nate hurried back to the others. He saw the dead body. Placing a sympathetic hand on the corpses friend shoilder he looked at him. "They are right. You need to come with us. Even if you don't stay we all need to leave now."
Finn felt pressure on his back. It was the woman who first came to his aid. She hugged him and somehow it felt comforting, but it also made the question rose as to why she would do such a thing to a total stranger? Had it not been for Eva teaching him to see the good side of people he'd loosen himself of this woman's grip in order to avoid getting a knife in his back.
But Eva was right. Hell, she was always right. Even if she was wrong. Most stubborn person he'd ever met but the first person ever to treat him like an actual human being instead of some worthless Irish hoodlum from The Town. Even if they started out on opposite sides of the law.
The woman made him stand up straight and it took Finn a few seconds to collect himself and to fathom what was going on in the surrounding. He had been so lost in his grief for Eva he had forgotten all about the situation he had led these people in. Another sympathetic hand urging him to get out of there with them touched his shoulder. They were right but he couldn't just leave Eva like that, a corpse on the street decaying where she had fallen... she deserved better. She deserved a funeral. Finn couldn't leave without honoring her sacrifice and all the friendship and care she had given him. He just couldn't.
"Please... I... I... can't leave her like this." Finn said. "I just can't. She deserves a funeral, to be buried..."
Finn pointed out a nearby garage where he had stashed and covered up the Shelby. In it was everything he and Eva owned, apart from the weapons that were on him. His tools he could use to crack safes and vaults, and to unlock doors were in there as well, and the most worthiest of his assets; invoices from a company that manufactured survival bunkers, and the addresses they were delivered to. Finn and Eva had come across it while scavenging the company grounds in Texas, and were systematically going through the addresses they were delivered to. Perhaps he could use some of them to bargain with his people, or even enlist their help finding them.
"Please help me get her out of here." Finn continued. "My car's in that garage over there and the locations of several survival shelters built by this Texan prepper company are in it. Eva and I were going after them. If you help me get her out of here and help me bury her I can share them with you. If you don't want that I've got supplies I can give."
A bullet tearing its way into a nearby car reminded Finn that he also had a weapon. He picked up the HK416 assault rifle that laid next to Eva and faced the woman and man again.
"If you move her in one of your cars I can make a run for mine." Finn said. "You don't have to worry about waiting for me, my car is fast enough to catch up."
He pulled out the clip of the gun and looked at it. It was half empty. He stucked it back and cocked the assault rifle again.
"So will you help me? Please?" Finn asked. "I'll do whatever you want afterwards."
"Kraken's balls!" He cursed. He understood the man's desire but this was not the right situation.
"Bloody hell, Dale, Jake, someone help me get ta lasses body in da back eh?"
He ran over to the woman's body, bullets flying by his head as he did. This was not a good situation and he was freaking out. The man's offer seemed nice though, something that could really help them out.
"Ye best not die a'fore ye can give us what you promised."
He started dragging the body back to the truck. He could get it over there by himself but would need someone's help getting her up and into the bed of the truck.

Jake brought Eva to safety and laid her on the floor, but this wasn’t going to end well. He could read it off Mia her face that Eva was dying. And his predictions seemed right, cause not seconds later after she sort of said goodbye she closed her eyes and wouldn’t open them. He saw how the man cried and he felt bad for him, Jake knew how much it hurt. But then Finn, which was the man his name had to make sure Eva stayed dead. He stabbed her, kissed her on the forehead and broke down.
Jake was going to help him on his feet but it seemed like Mia had it handled, she knew what to do in these situations. But as sad as this was the bandits where still coming. Jake heard gun shots, he heard Veran yelling and he knew they had to get out of there. Jake started to get everything in the car, when he was done, he heard Nate yelling once more it was time to get out.
“Nate is right, Finn get in the car we need to go!” he yelled as gun shots kept flying past them. Jake wasn’t able to shoot back since Mia still had his gun. It was then that Finn begged them to get Eva out, so he could bury her. Normally Jake wouldn’t care, but like he felt earlier meeting these people, having friends changed him to who he was before the apocalypse. He could be arrogant at times, but he was overall a sweet guy, until the dark day that everything went wrong. Jake was touched by darkness cause of all the pain he felt, but meeting the group, meeting Veran made him see the light once again. “Ok we will get her out, you go grab you car!” Jake yelled.
He noticed how Veran was already dragging the dead body and was asking for help. Jake rushed to his side as they carried the body and placed her on the bed of the truck. “Be safe.” Jake said as he kissed Veran on his cheek. “I owed you one.” He said with a smile before running back to his car.
When he finally reached is car he got in, he threw his katana on the backseats of the car and waited for whoever was going to drive with him, to get it. He still heard the gunshots and he knew they were getting out of time. So he opened his door and yelled. “Hurry up!”
Mia tucked the gun into her back and moved to help move the body. She ahd seen enough grief to know there was no option right now. They could just say fuck him and leave him, but that was not the right thing to do.
She saw Veran grab the body up and start moving, and Jake rushed to help him. She patted Finn's arm, 'Go get your car." She ran ahead and lowered the tailgate of the truck and climbed up. She was standing, and that was a wrong move. She didn't think. As she started to lower, to take hold of the body, a shot rang out and her right shoulder exploded.
Blood shot out as the bullet out the front of her shoulder, barely missing Veran . Jake's peck on the cheek was impecable timing. If Veran's head had not tilted her would have been shot in the face. Mia screamed, and the impact sent her forward. She landed on the bed next to the dead body of Eva.
It had been to much to think they would have no casualties. Mia writhed in pain. Fuck! Shit! This hurt like a mother fucker! All her years of patching up bullet holes, and she had always been kind, but had never truly realized how much pain the person had been in. Now she knew. She gripped her shoulder, blood pumping out, and running through her fingers. She needed to tie it off, and they needed to get the fuck out of her. "GO, DRIVE!" she screamed from the truck bed, and kicked the frame behind the driver.
Nate climbed into the truck when Jake said to drive. He started it up and wait for everyone to get in. He saw the new guy take off for his car and the pirate and Jake put the dead girl in the back. Why the fuck were they taking the dead body, he thought as he leane out the window.
Then he heard a shot. Mia screamed out and anger boiled through him. He wanted to get out and kill these people. He did everything he could to not get out and kill these men. Once everyone was in he took off, speeding down the road.
Finn was glad these people agreed to help get Eva's body out of there, even though it would come at some cost. But it was a price he was willing to pay. Something he didn't want to happen was the woman who comforted him getting shot however. She jumped onto the flatbed truck as the others motivated him to get to his car.
As the flatbed truck with the wounded woman drove off, Finn made a run for the garage in which the Shelby GT500 was stored. As he ran he fired several salvos towards the direction of his pursuers, getting them to duck down. He quickly threw off the tarp he had pulled over the car before getting in. Eva and him had this car so maintained it'd start immediately. He switched it in gear and sped off with the pursuers' bullets barely missing his car.
It didn't take too long before he had caught up with the new people, nor did it take too long for him to realize it was the first time ever he had driven the car on his own without Eva sitting next to him.
The kiss on his cheek almost took him back but it was way too hectic right now for him to even worry about it. He fired at the bandits a couple more times before he jumped into the back of truck and hid.
Mia had been shot and she would need someone to put pressure on the wound and to help her get it closed up. He had done something of the sort before but never with a gunshot. He worried that he would mess something up and hurt her.
"Figure yer gonna need some help with that gunshot lass. I'll do what I can."
He moved over as they got out of range of the incoming bullets and ripped a sleeve off of the dead girls shirt. It was not the best choice but he couldn't functionally rip his own shirt up. He hoped that Fin didn't mind. He applied the cloth to the wound and put pressure on it.
"When we get ye to safety we can deal with the rest of what needs ta be done."
Dale was pretty surprised by the sudden commotion, but more directly the shots being fired off and a couple random guests showing up out of nowhere. He mostly remained in the background, even firing off a couple shots from his M9 that nobody probably paid attention to in the chaos. His shots didn't really help much anyways as he ran for cover as he shot them. Dale watched as one of the new arrivals passed away right before them, and helped get her into the bed of the truck.
He almost moved back towards Mia as she was shot, but seeing his dad take hold of her he knew she would be alright. Seeing the pursuers close on their tail, he quickly jumped into the passenger seat with Jake, "Guess that driving lesson will have to wait huh?" He placed his revolver on the dashboard for quick retrieval, and donned his M9. He threw his katana in the back as well, so it wouldn't hinder his ability to turn in the cramped car.
