Nate had left the motar depot as ordered. He couldn't bilieve it, he was banished. Trying to save people's lives gets you banished. He hung his head. Not having very Mutch supplies or gear he could leave instantly. but first he had to say goodbye.
Nate say Mia coming out of the med tent, he went to he side. His face was saddened. "Can I speak to you. In private." He said quietly. He didn't want to leave, never seeing his friends, but he knew he had to. "It's important."
It would be clear something was wrong, he wasn't his usual happy self.
Mia stepped out of the tent. She needed air and a cigarette. She leaned over and put her hands on her knees, then raised and stretched. Her muscles where tense, from all that had happened. She was proud of herself. She still had it , felt good, like riding a bike, you just fall back into the old routine.
That was when Nate came up. She stared at him, the smile on her face fading instantly, "Nate, what's wrong?" She raised a brow, "sure, you can , walk around the side here with me." She gripped his arm, then her hand slid into his and they stepped around the side, into the space between the tent and the next. "Tell me what's wrong, you look awful, what happened?" She didn't like this, "I only gave your tylenol, I swear." She tried to lighten his mood, but saw that was not going to happen so easily.
Nate sighed and cut straight to the point, "I'm exiled. Ellen told me I have to leave," he looked at the ground, his hand still on hers. "I have ten minutes to pack up and leave. Then the peole who just arrived hae to leave."
He wanted to smile at her joke but just couldn't bring himself to do that right now, "Elle forced a gun in my hand. She wanted me to execute the two men. I couldn't do it. I betrayed the camp. Then I questioned her authority on it. Now I have to leave."
He looked at her, "I wanted to say goodbye. If these people have to leave too I wan to help them. How stable are they?"
Mia could not believe what she was hearing, "What are you talking about? She , wouldn't do that. Ellen is here to protect the camp. " Mia shook her head, 'That makes no sense to exile you, and what did these people do? They don't seem to be bad or anything." She glanced to the tent behind her, 'The man shouldn't be moved, he just had major surgery! There is no way he should be moved without medical attention, hell, he shouldn't even stand the fuck up." She ran a hand through her hair, "Nate, this isn't right!" She stared at him, "Why did she want you to shoot them? That makes no sense, we should go find Randal, and see what is going on." Everything was crazy, she didn't understand all that had happened, but why would Ellen want to execute people that had done nothing. She understood killing the Militia unit men that had tried to attack the camp, but this people were brought here, weren't they.
"I don't know why she would do this. These people, they got to her. I didn't think they were bad people either. But she is convinced they are," Nate said looking at Mia, "I think executing them was supposed to be a test. To show what they had to go through everyday with their decisions. But these people don't seem bad, they aren't a threat."
He let go of her hand, "they seemed realy set in stone about this. Set on making these men leave. You say they aren't fit to travel? Then we might just loose them. I'm pretty sure they aren't even going to get a chance to speak to the council. She said they had wasted enough resources. Honestly I don't want to stay here. Not if they are going to force me to shoot good people. Even if the fun just had blanks, it was still wrong. It just shows I'm not loyal to the camp. As the leader of te guards. She said I'm not a threat. That if I don't go, or come back the guards had authority to use lethal force."
Mia almost felt like her legs would hold her when he said the last part. Lethal force! What was happening? She snapped out of it pretty quickly, "If you have to go, I need to get your some supplies, you need things, I can't let you just leave with no medical supplies, that would kill you." She felt her hands shake and then balled them into tight fists to hide it, 'I can run and grab somethings for you, this is crazy, I don't want you to leave, why would they do this? " She couldn't wrap her mind around it. THey had always helped people, brought them before the council, and decided. She sighed, and looked at him,"the one guy, the shot one, he won't survive without medical help, he can't just be thrown out in the cold."
Nate placed a hand in her shoulder to calm her. "Come with us. He'll need medical help. You can get medical supplies," he said looking at her. "Plus i don't have to leave you then. I'd miss your laugh."
He looked away, "plus do you really want to stay. After all that's happened. What they've done. I don't want you to stay. I want you to come with me," he said taking her hand in his own. As they interlocked fingers, "if anyone can help these people it's you. They need you. I need you. You can get them medical supplies to make it alive. Or we can leave on our own. Just you and I. Though I do want to help these people."
Mis stared at him,"nate,I can't just leave like that. These people need me."she found her self focusing on his hand locked with hers," I don't know what to say,I don't want you to leave either,at all. " it was then that she realized how he felt. He wasn't going to stay at all after what had happened. She sighed,"Nate,I ,let me talk to the Doc, the new one . He came in an ambulance maybe they could move thr man in that? Let me help if I can." She moved toward the front of the tent. Mia was torn. Her loyalty for a long time had been here and she felt safe here and Nate wanted her to leave all that.
"I know I'm asking a lot," Nate said looking down. "But we both know with out a professional these people won't make it. They are going to need lots of help." He looked up at her. He wanted to stay, but knew he couldn't. It wouldn't be the same. He wouldn't respect the base. "Yes ask the doc. Any help is appreciated. Though I doubt Ellen wants to spare anything on them. The ambulance would help though. We would still need a person to help him on the road."
He smiled, "I haven't even talked to this group. I may just leave on my own. I want to help them though."
Mia paused, "Well, I want to get to know you more, but I just can't up and leave." She frowned and stared at him for a moment, 'Let me talk to Andrei, see if he would be willing to help, but you only have 10 minutes, and how long do they have?" She sighed, I don't know what I can do in that time!" She was visibly upset , but she went into the tent to look for Andrei and to gather a few supplies for Nate, either way.
"Sure you could. There's nothing stopping you," Nate said smiling, "with the new doc you arent needed as much," he paused and looked away, "but it's your call. I won't force you. I'll miss you though." He said looking at her.
"She said ten minutes. Not sure how literal that is. I mean I'd need more time to gather my thing and say goodbye to everyone. She didn't say how long for the others, only that they have to leave," he said walking into the tent, "she said theyvhad extended their welcome."

Inside the medical tent, Andrei could be found in the same area as the cabinets filled with drugs. He was sitting at a table, piles of opened books covering it, and a piece of paper filled with notes and calculations. Deep in thought and focus, the man was trying to find the best treatment scheme for the man he operated earlier, to keep infection and inflammation at bay, whilst conserving as much of the drugs as possible. Mia's entrance went unnoticed, as he mumbled to himself, in a low voice.
"2 grams of piperacillin every 8 hours, with 4 miligrams of dexamethasone...still need an analgesic."
Charlie had been keeping an eye on Nate to make sure he wouldn't steal anything from the camp. She looked at her watch; he was dragging his feet. As far as she was concerned, his time was up. She had no mercy for the guy anymore after rebelling against Ellen and herself. Someone who betrayed the camp's people that easy for strangers didn't deserve any.
She appeared behind him together with Nate K. and Kelsey. It was high time for him to leave. And if he kept stalling, they'd make him. If he hadn't collected his stuff now, he wasn't going to.
"Nate. It's time for you to leave." Charlie said. "Don't make this hard on yourself; we can do this the easy or the hard way. Take it like a man."
Charlie unlocked the holster on her leg and kept her hand on the M9 Beretta in it. She meant business; and there was no negotiating.
Mia had walked in the tent with Nate not far behind her. She glanced at Liz ,then the patient and moved a little further in. She was going back to the meds when Charlie and the two males walked in. She stared at her," Hold it right there, this is a medical tent, you don't need to come inhere acting like that,Charlie, you know better." She glanced at Andrei and grabbed a bottle of penicillan tablets froma shelf along with a bottle of tylenol. She walked over to Nate and handed them to him.
Until that moment she had thought he was exaggerating the whole situation. She glanced at Charlie," what the hell is going on?" Mia was angry,a bit scared too. This place was supposed to be safe. They were supposed to be the good guys not act the way Nate described. She glanced at Andrei, then Liz." Nate said you are kicking him out because he wouldn't shoot unarmed men, so exactly what the hell did he do? Ellen is going to kick someone out because they have a conscious now?" She looked at Charlie," not everyone can be a soldier ,Charlie, not everyone can just shoot first and ask questions later." She pointed to the injured man," this have something to do with him and the ones you brought in,Nate's been here, he's good people."
Mia was upset, and it showed, but she wanted to know what was going on. More than that, she wanted to make sure others knew as well.
Nate turns around to Charlie. "Not even going to let me say goodbye," he asked. "Can see why I thought this place was different."
He sighed and looked at Mia. He had already grabbed the majority of his stuff. It was piled up ready to go.
"I've had friends here. As cold as you are, at least let me have that. One Last Goodbye. All I ask," he said looking at the guard. "I'll be fine after that, you'll never have to see me again. I'll leave peacefully, you don't need to escort me. Just let me say goodbye."
Liz had come back in to take care of Sterling. She wanted to change his dressings, wipe his face and arms down and just make sure his vitals were stablizing. She came in with the fresh bandages to see everyone in there. The injured dark haired girl remained silent while Sterling was still unconscious from a new injection of ketamine for pain. She saw the tough looking woman ordering Nate out and Mia did not seem to like that whatsoever. She could only assume Mia and Nate were close friends, but she was right. She saw Charlie's hand reach for the holster, although she didn't pull the weapon out. This wasn't a place for bullets, that was for sure, but she kept her mouth shut. She knew hostilities were high and she wasn't about to contribute. The entire situation made her nervous.
Instead, she just went about her business, changing the dressings and doing whatever it was Andrei needed her to do to keep his patient alive. He was also the first patient she had taken care of in a long time and her nurturing instinct had come out a lot stronger then she had anticipated. She felt almost protective over him as his grievious injuries prevented him from doing anything more then laying there to heal.
Charlie kept a straight face but firmed her grip as Nate made his plea. She figured it was just like a coward to hide behind the wounded and medical staff. Mia asked what happened and Charlie was more than willing to explain.
"What happened is that this traitor openly sided with people who have shown themselves an enemy to this camp and everyone in it." Charlie said. "And kept defending them even though he knew these people tried to kill Ellen's dad. So we subjected him to a test of loyalty, which he failed miserably. So he's left us no choice but to banish him from this place so we can keep ensuring its safey, which I'm here to oversee."
Friends or no friends, this charade had gone long enough and Charlie grew weary of it. The only people injured here were the hostiles and she'd make them an example by shooting them then and there in their beds if she had to.
"You should've thought about your friends when you decided to openly rebel against this camp and its people." Charlie continued. "Because in doing so you've also rebelled against people you called friends. Now let's go Nate, I won't say again or so help me you will be treated just like the enemies."
Nate sighed. He could of kept arguing that these people weren't a threat. They were good people like them, he could tell. So thing got heated they didn't need to slaughter people over it. Charlie would never get it though her thick skull. He didn't need to defend his choices any more. Why the fuck did she care, he was leaving. Cold bitch wouldn't let him say goodbye by. Even if he chose this other group over them he still had a right. It was just Mia, his last stop. Hykeem wasn't here to say goodbye to, and no one else at this camp mattered. He sighed.
"I kept defending these men because they had done nothing wrong. You were the ones who shot first. The ones who beat the shit out of people just cause you're fucking roid raged," he took a big breath, "the way you tested my loyalty was by forcing a gun in my hand asking my to execute two unarmed people who have done nothing to me or the camp. They didn't shoot anyone. Didn't beat someone's face in. Didn't held people hostage. Didn't steal or rob from us."
He walked towards the exit of the tent, "I don't need any of this. If you want then gone send the two men out with me. Obviously I'm loyal to them. Then they stop being a waste of your resources."
With that he picked up his gear. He slung the rifle on his back and headed towards the gate. He hoped Mia would be able to see the dark of this place. That they were the ones that were wrong.
Charlie chuckled. While all this transpired Nate was sleeping off a hangover yet he seemed to know everything about a situation that he never even saw.
"You weren't there Nate!" Charlie said. "You were sleeping off a hangover yet here you are claiming to presume you know everything? You're a ridiculous man and a traitor, now get the fuck outta here!"
As he went out she sent two guards with him to make sure he'd make it to the gate. She'd rather just wanted to shoot the guy for being so pretentious and self-righteous but that somehow she was able to keep herself restrained. She just hoped the others saw the logic in that reasoning and wouldn't make any rash decisions, let alone go with Nate.

Andrei didn't notice Mia take something from the meds cabinet, but the entire commotion taking place inside the tent was disturbing his concentration and being an overall annoyance. Rising from the table he noticed that the source of the disturbance were Nate, Mia and Charlie. For a moment he listened to find out what has happening, and while Nate was leaving things seemed to be aggravating. Andrei had heard enough, and, silently, he moved between Charlie and Mia, grabbing and pinching one of their ears.
"People are resting and working here. Out!" with that he began dragging the two by the ear outside. Once they passed the tent flap, he let go and spoke in an obviously annoyed tone. "What the hell is going on? One at a time."
