"Or maybe they are better off now then they were before. Now, they don't have to worry about guys like you coming and roughing them up for money..or...whatever else you wanted." She thought about that for a second as she looked at him. "Unless you rough them up for supplies, which I suppose could be worse. Maybe all that struggling before prepared them for a world like this."
She was surprised at her own ability to survive really. She was physically in shape, but mentally, she had shut down. She shut herself out from the rest of the world, living alone, hiding, stealing what she could when she could. She was starting to get worried about running out of supplies though. Maybe Beau knew of some spots she could hit.
He spoke about the gun store people, two names she wasn't sure if she knew or not. Archer had a couple of guns, but he never spoke about where he got them. The more Beau spoke about people that he knew or robbed or milked dry, the more isolated she was starting to feel. "Well, I suppose it's good to know we weren't the only ones suffering at your hands." She chuckled and looked down. "I feel so..insulated. I never knew any of these people. Archer made sure I didn't get out much, although the name Colton sounds familiar. Maybe I saw his name at the gym or something."
When she was finished changing him, she felt her breath was a little heavier and her cheeks were a little more red for feeling the way she was feeling. It had been a long time since she had any sort of physical contact with anyone, let alone a guy she was attracted two, regardless of how many hands he had. His comment about getting aroused while she pulled the pants up made her almost gasp and he could tell how embarrassed she was. He had to have known. She couldn't even imagine him getting to that point in his current condition. She tried to joke about it to make herself feel a little better.
"Well, don't do..that. You know.." She cleared her throat a little and placed the blankets on top of him. "You need circulation to your arm not your...you know.."
Jesus, that only made things worse. She tried to untuck her hair from behind her ear to cover her face as she sat back down, bundling up and shifting to let her legs dangle over the side while she kept watch. "Then sleep. You don't have to stay up for me. We'll be fine. We will."
When he closed his eyes and drifted away, her eyes moved to the window where rain was still pelting against the window. It was going to be a long night for him and when his painkillers wore off, she would be there with another pill for him. She tried to close her eyes also, but instead, still awake, she watched the shadows bounce from the firelight until she too was finally asleep.
