For an hours Liam stood at the end of pier fourteen below USS Ardent watching over the bay and even now it still felt strange watching the once active port now only barely managing to get a pulse of life again. Expect for the fishing boats and minor trade the bay was barely active at times. Only recently had they managed to secure the the sea and ocean around Norfolk. Raids on fishing vessels had decreased for the first time in two year and two small fishing boats refitted to contain crude oil had begun to reach the markets weekly. Some factions had already jumped on the band wagon in protecting this vital supply, with this the USS Ardent had once again been able to make short runs up and down the coast. If anything the short runs were a sign to anyone willing to attack Norfolk, but little did anyone know how damaged the USS Ardent really good was and how empty the ammo reserve was also.
He still remembered every second of that day the USS Ardent came home, with the virus strangling the United States, he had took it upon himself to return home and try save at least at least some life's. But unknown at the time, the port had been taken over by a rebel military faction, entering the port he was ordered to surrender the vessel and when he told them were to go the ship came under heavy attack. Escaping with heavy damage, the USS Ardent played a cat and mouse game with a sister ship in rebel hands. It lasted for two days, if finally ended with the USS Ardent sending a detail to laugh a sneak attack aboard the ship under the cover of night and when the team left the sister ship, it was taking on water. With the ship damaged the USS Ardent came in for the kill and suck it to the sea bed.
Even with the help of local factions around Norfolk to take back the city, those with an axe to grind against the rebels were barely enough and the USS Ardent took major damage in this fight. Some parts could be replaced, others were Jerry rigged and it is now only a matter of time till she has taken too much.
Truce City was meant to a shining beacon to those looking for protection and a place were a person could once again plan a future. It had come a far way since they first lay a seed to build the city, in good ways and bad. Even with the truce with the factions, some still went head to head with each other for more control over the city, ready to divide and conquer those who show weakness. He had tried to change that, but that plan to bring them together as one faction was now long dead and had no sign of returning.
The morning was cool as a salty sea breeze swept the city, mixing with the smell of fresh bread been cooked from the center of the city and a hint of fresh liquor. Norfolk was active, the population changed daily, most just came to trade for basics for there own groups. The half that lived here were living in slums.
He turned to make his way towards the city for his daily show of face. Ahead of him lay the rest of Truce City, his domain and future. He was beyond the point of leaving and making a new life. Him with his crew had put too much sweat and blood to turn this base in to a city just to leave. But the mood in the city had gone up with recent news of a group in Washington beginning to expand. So far it was all good news, but Liam new better and was grateful the other factions of the city saw this rival as a threat. Time would only tell how they'd react to each other.
But for now Liam made his way down the dock and towards the market.
