Tic tic tic tic tic went the tall clock on the wall. Baron's eyes flickered and it was the first thing he saw. The hand of the clock, turning along it's perimeter. His eyes scoured the room, finding the clothes he was wearing on a chair, nicely folded. His eyes then followed his chest, looking down, realizing he's covered in a blanket, with pajamas on. It was bizarre. Was he dreaming?
He had a massive headache. He went to press his hand against his head to feel a bandage, wrapped around his head. Come to think of it, he had several bandages. One on his cheek, one covering his forearm which was especially sore, and even his stab and bite wounds were properly bandaged and taken care of. The confusion on his face said it all. Where the hell was he? He glanced at a case full of angel figurines before hearing something in the other room, a door shutting.
And in walked an old woman with a silver tray, sporting a beverage. Her grey hair hanging over her shoulders and her blue eyes glistening in the son. She seemed, very approachable. Her smile flashed as she seen that Baron was up. "Oh good, you're up. I made you some green tea. Drink up." She said, setting the tray in front of Baron on the coffee table. However, Baron was more interested in answers than he was in fucking tea. What had happened? Why was he there all of a sudden. "How long was I out...?" He asked as she quickly responded with, "2 days.".
Then it hit him. Zephyr. She was taken. She was kidnapped, and he was having tea with Betty White. He began to squirm in the blanket, throwing it off of him, sitting up on the couch. He was a lot more sore than he thought. He must of taken a nasty fall. But pain didn't stop him before. He was determined. "She's gone....they...they took her." He said, trying his best to get up, however, he was stopped by the old lady. "Sit down! You are in no condition to stand right now. Barry said you were quite out of it when he found you. He saved you, you know?" She said as Baron's brow rose, admitting defeat and remaining seated.
"What's your name young man? I'd like to properly meet you." She said, with such innocence in her eyes. Baron grabbed the cup of tea, and took a sip before replying. "My name's Baron....." her eyes flickered, and she responded with a smile, before taking his hand. "Well....Baron. You were nearly dead when my grandson found you. May I ask, what happened? Who is this girl you speak of?" She asked.
He thought back. Zephyr's smile. It was amazing on the rare occasions he got to see it. Her happiness meant a lot to him. It made him feel happy. Or at least it put him on the right track of finding out what true happiness was. In the few days he's known her, his entire life had changed. He actually had something...someone to live for. Somebody who cared for him as much as he cared for her. And now....she was gone. Possibly dead, or wishing she was dead. She was suffering. He couldn't stand the thought of that. Couldn't stand the thought of tears rolling down her cheek as she wonders why..? Why her? Flaire could tell that the thought of her was really getting to him. He looked a mess. "You risked your life out there...for her didn't you?" She asked, as calmly as she could, trying to comfort him. "It's okay to cry hun..." She said as Baron looked at her finally, on the verge of tears, as if he can barely contain it before finally, letting them fall.
He was hunched over, while she had her hand on his back, letting him know she was there for him. This complete stranger, showing such kindness. Baron needed it. He was looking into the distant nothing, putting it all together in his head, before speaking to her in a broken up voice, "She.....means a lot to me....and I just watched as she was taken by...these men......it should of been me. She should of never met me.....i'm the reason why she's suffering. I should be suffering right now.....not her!" He said, unable to hold back the tears as much as he was. He placed his face in his cuffed hands as she patted his back.
"Sweetie, you did all you can do in this condition you were in. You're lucky that you're even alive right now. You just need to focus on getting better, so you can get up and find her. You'll find her. You're too determined not to." She said, as he raised his head up, looking her in the eyes. He managed to think to himself....who is she?
